Given all the mountain coasters in this video alone, I think a video ranking your top __ mountain coasters (or just ranking all the ones you've ridden) would be a fun watch. Curious if you managed to get on the Hasenhorn Rodelbahn in Germany, I saw a POV of that one a few days ago and it looked phenomenal and extremely long
This video is particularly fascinating to me because, unusually for these ranking videos, I've *actually ridden* a bunch of these, and it's interesting how different my subjective rankings are from yours (aside from generally recognizing which ones are truly elite). But that's how these things are... I've developed more of a taste for ejector air lately than I used to have, and it's possible that when I get around to going back and re-riding a lot of these it will affect my opinions of them.
What sets mountain coasters apart from regular coasters is the fact that the trim brakes are on the cart, and you get to control them. It's key to get an untrimmed ride. That means you need to leave enough space between you and the person in front of you and make sure you hold the handles down the whole way, which keeps the trims from hitting. If you catch up to the person in front of you and need to slow down, then you have ruined the ride and you'll get zero forces.
For some reason I have not yet been to Lake Compounce, yet I grew up in New England and still live here. I'll definitely need to check out Boulder Dash this year. Right now Wicked Cyclone is my #1 NE coaster, and Superman is my #2.
Great video! I'm going to SFNE this Sunday for the first time by myself. Knowing that Superman and Wicked Cyclone are fairly popular, which would you recommend I ride first when the gates open? I plan on arriving before the park opens so I can beat the potential long lines but I'm having trouble choosing which one to start my day off. XD
Ha! First review I’ve ever heard for Troublesome Trucks! This coaster is mostly fine, but the roll back and jerk on the lift hill readjusted my spine. 😂
the corkscrew at canobie lake was the first upside down rollercoaster i ever rode as a kid, i remember it used to be yellow, i haven't been there in years but im sad to hear theyre getting rid of it i remember loving boulder dash as a kid so im glad to hear that's still there
I remember there was a season when they'd repainted half of it, so it had this half black-and-yellow/half blue-and-green scheme that was comically hideous.
If I had a better experience at Lake Compounce, or if I were able to go there more often, I would have a much higher opinion of Boulder Dash. But even with its super long line and no night ride, it's still my # 3, and I can't see anything I haven't ridden beating it. Superman edges out Wicked Cyclone for my favorite.
I got lucky when I rode it for the first time it just happened to be night it was like half an hour before close. I wish I had picked the lead car though.
It's actually amazing how much New England has no offer, from Superman and Wicked Cyclone and it goes way on and I'm not going to type it all but New England is the reason coaster enthusiast visit the east coast of the US.
@@CanobieCoaster From a coaster-enthusiast perspective, I think Pennsylvania and Ohio folk may be the luckiest, with Florida and California close behind. (PA wins hard if you love classic woodies.) But New England has a few world-class ones and is not too far from Pennsylvania either. There was a time when SFNE had a reputation as one of the duds of the chain, but I think that is changing, especially if they replace Goliath with something really good.
I only have 34 credits (half of which came in the last year and a half even though I'm 47 years old LOL), but I have to say I was so disappointed with Boulder Dash when riding it for the first time 2 days ago. All the things you said that make it amazing are true: Incredible setting, layout, aggressiveness, forces, yes! But OMG was it unbearably rough. I was seated closer to the back but I just think that if you have to qualify where to sit on a coaster to keep it from hurting (I somehow came out with a painful swollen knuckle), it can't be #1. I just spent way too much time "fighting back" against it rather than enjoying myself. Wicked Cyclone, on the other hand, is my favorite coaster anywhere in the world, not just New England (And I've done a few international ones).
Unfortunately, Boulder Dash can get rough further back in the train. I highly recommend riding in front for the better visuals, sense of speed, and smoother ride.
Having been on both Boulder Dash and Superman many times, here is how I would differentiate them. Getting off Boulder Dash I think “that was a great ride; glad I did it.” Getting off Superman I think “that was a great ride, I wanna go again.”
I just re-rode Boulder Dash on Saturday and... I think it might have gone down a bit in my estimation. It's jackhammering harder than it used to. It's definitely the most intense sensory assault of any coaster in New England, but I'm not sure it's in an entirely good way. It seems sacrilegious to rate it below Phobia Phear Coaster, but in the moment, I was enjoying Phobia more. That said, you've insisted that it's an obligatory front-seat ride, and I didn't get a front-seat ride.
Yeah! I rode it for the first time 2 days ago and it was objectively horrible from a roughness, jackhammering, and pothole standpoint - To the point where I almost could no longer notice all the wonderful things about it. And I agree - I rode Phobia Phear afterward to end the night on a good note.
Of all the ones I rode in 2021, my favorite is Superman: The Ride at Six Flags New England followed by Wicked Cyclone at SixFlagsNewEngland, Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce, Phobia Phear at Lake Compounce, Thunderbolt at Six Flags New England, Batman: The Dark Knight at Six Flags New England, The Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags New England and Wildcat at Lake Compounce.
@@CanobieCoaster It was a very tough call but I liked how Superman: The Ride was the tallest, fastest and longest of them all and Wicked Cyclone felt like the smoothest of them all also. But Boulder Dash is my new favorite wooden roller coaster because of the intensity and how it sprints through the forest.
Kiddie Coaster at Lake Compounce is the same as Li'l Phantom at Kennywood and what used to be Li'l Thunder which used to be titled Li'l Screamer at SF Great Adventure; the smallest gravity powered coaster coaster I've ever ridden. Speaking of gravity powered: Sky Rider could be considered by some to be debatable re whether or not it's a coaster, but 1: has wheels, 2: has a track and 3: is at least partially if not almost completely powered by gravity. With those criteria to consider: I'd consider Sky Rider to be a more legit coaster than a powered coaster.
👍New England HAD a list of above average coasters in the1980's at parks that are now defunct . Mountain Park (Holyoke MA.), Lincoln Park (Dartmouth MA.), Whalom Park (Luneburg MA.) and Paragon Park (Hull MA.) Just don't blame your parents for waiting too long .😬
5:19 20 cars 😂 Lmao I wasted my time counting this and writing this comment because literally 1 second later you pointed this out. I had not known when this comment was written.
Could you please make a video about magic seats? I am from germany and go on some US coaster trips. But often I don't know, if a coaster I ride in the US has a magic seat. I usually ride them in the front and back row, since these are usually the best ones. But there are a few exaptions from this rule. I only know Magnum has a strange magic seat, but cant remember where it is.
I got 3, albeit very weak pops of airtime on the cranmore mountain coaster, and some crushing laterals that nearly folded me over my friends leg. Did you ride brakeless?
I’m surprised Jiminy Peak made the list! Western Mass is mostly ignored/forgotten about, or at least Berkshire county and pretty much everything else west of Springfield.
I went to Attitash once with my camp and one of my counselors managed to break the coaster for the day. It was hilarious. Attitash also has this bobsled like ride in the summer (hard to describe) and that's also a lot of fun.
@@CanobieCoaster All of my counselors that year were like over 6 feet for some reason so they just went too fast and combined with their bigger body kind of derailed I guess not entirely sure. All I know is that I walked past and saw them stuck in the middle of one of the last turns just chilling there. They had to walk over and get them out or something. It was funny as hell.
Ive only been to 3 NE parks and my rankings are: 1. Boulder Dash (By far the best coaster in the reigon. Nothing comes close) 2. Superman: The Ride 3. Wicked Cyclone 4. Wooden Warrior 5. Phobia 6. Goliath (I could still appreciate the forces. This could easily be #3 if it ran smooth) 7. Zoomerang (Way smoother than Flashback) 8. Joker 9. Batman: TDK 10. Gotham City Gauntet 11. Riddlers Revenge (Could easily move up but it was still Mind Eraser when I rode it) 12. Flashback (Worst Boomerang ever. Constant headbanging and roughness. This coaster made me stop ranking all clones in one spot) I didnt ride Thunderbolt, Pandamonium, Great Chase or Catwoman bc we left for a few hrs for food and when I came back later I opted for Wicked Cyclone and Superman rerides. And Wildcat at Lake Compounce was closed
Mine: 1. Wicked Cyclone 2. Superman: The Ride (SFNE) 3. Boulder Dash 4. Untamed (Canobie) 5. Roar-O-Saurus 6. Yankee Cannonball 7. Batman: The Dark Knight (SFNE) 8. Dragon Coaster (Canobie) 9. Zoomerang (Lake Compounce) 10. Polar Coaster (Story Land) 11. Canobie Corkscrew Obviously there are a lot of rides I haven't ridden--I need to get back to SFNE and hit more of the "filler" coasters, Phobia at Compounce, and some of the other parks. And this list is to some degree eccentric and sentimental--Canobie's rides probably don't go that high in any "objective" sense but I have fond associations with them. I almost feel like I'm being unfair to Batman here--it's a really good, definitely underrated ride, and the status of New England's only B&M is worth something in itself, but there's some emotional X factor I'm not feeling there.
Boulder dash is decent, but not worth spending a day at lake compounce. Maybe its cause i grew up here, but seeing the first drop of superman from the ground, and diving through areas of the park really builds anticipation for that ride. Having ridden quite a few more coasters now, Superman is honestly pretty damn good the drop feels like it lasts forever too. Boulder Dash is good, but even as a kid, I couldn’t wait to be a few inches taller and go back to Six Flags!
I'm from NJ and went to Lake Compounce with my family a couple days ago for the first time. Maybe it's the fact that I have young kids, but I thought Lake Compounce was really beautiful and the perfect size for my kids to get on all the rides they wanted while I didn't have too many coaster credits to complete while they and my wife sat idle doing nothing. That being said, Wicked Cyclone is still my favorite coaster in the world. 😎
There used to be a respectable collection of coasters in Rhode Island, a long, long time ago, but the general demise of small seaside parks killed them.
@@MattMcIrvin That is true and very sad, wish both seaside parks and bigger, corporate parks could coexist since both offer great, different experiences.
Maybe in it's hayday Boulder Dash would be number one, but it's too rough nowadays and only feels "smooth" because you just got jackhammered on Wildcat. It does have a great layout; it just is rough enough to take away some of my enjoyment. I prefer Wicked Cyclone, but I would probably put Superman as number one.
16:30 i remember riding this when i was a kid, and i remember not enjoying it that much because of how janky and shaky it felt. did they change anything about the ride or am i just remembering it wrong???? lmao
Canobie Coaster would say: Orient Express at Palace Playland. This Wisdom Rides kiddie coaster is currently in pieces and I hope it never gets reassembled. What means "I hope it never gets reassembled"?
I might be the only person who thought Wildcat at Lake Compounce was... okay. I did sit in the front row, which might have helped, but I thought it was a solid 5/10, and almost debated a second ride! Maybe I'm just crazy lmao
@@CanobieCoaster yeah for sure, nothing else I've ridden is truly elite, nor do any of the coasters I know about in the region but haven't ridden yet seem to be outside ofc Boulder Dash
Personally i think Wicked Cyclone beats Superman no question. Ive riden coasters with so much better airtime than Superman so i think its a tad overrated now, but still nice to have. I will never ride Joker again though, I love roller coasters but I felt like I was gonna die on that one. I'm glad you didn't put Goliath and Riddlers high up too cus those are awful. Going to have to ride Boulder Dash at some point since people say it's so good
only one , ever, i've been on, was the one at Whalom Park, in Lunenburg MA. I was brought up in Fitchburg, shhhhhh. lol. that one was built around 1938, the original one there blew down in a hurricane. it was amazing,,, i love the wood ones much better.
@@CanobieCoaster I honestly didnt go on it when i was at old orchad beach for vacation. You can see the motel in the background. I thought it looked lame
@@CanobieCoaster I love you coaster enthuasists. You're all like its a top 25 coaster.... If you ride it in the front car 1 row 2, when its above 85 degrees, on a weekday, after 2 PM, and all riders are over 25 and above 200 lbs. But only if the it's during a fire sign, the stock market has been doing well.
I am always thinking of ways to enhance that fun so the experience becomes physically mentally financially spiritually beneficial and rewarding. Example the roller coasters should include some kind of test to see how well a person may keep their composure under high intensity excitement. Like being able to write your name and address before the ride ends. I think would be a fun way to test one's eye hand coordination similar to astronauts and jet fighters. Equally as true all roller coasters today should automatically have an electronic system that is constantly scanning the track for weakness fractures rust and corrosion. And with today's technologies should be no problem to upgrade any and all other roller coasters which will maximize on safety so people may have extreme fun on every ride
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah, I didn’t see the upload date that’s my bad 😅 I agree with Boulder Dash too though. I live very close to Lake Compounce and get on it any chance I have.
Here is New England philosophy for anyone not from New England coming in we will be perfectly fine with you just don’t drive recklessly and check out some of our coastline
I honestly didn’t like the thunder mountain coaster and a lot of my friends agree it is kinda boring imho and I don’t like the way they space out people but I like the mount jimney one more
In this video, see: Number 25: Gotham City Gauntlet at Six Flags New England. In your video of top 25 roller coasters at Herschend Theme Parks, made in early 2024, there is an honorable mention. Up next would likely have been Marsh Mayhem at Wild Adventures or Road Runner Express at Kentucky Kingdom. The later was relocated to Six Flags New England as Gotham City Gauntlet. But it looked like it was placed closer to the bottom of that list. So if I ask you, why?
In your video of top 20 coasters at Herschend parks, made in early 2024, you put an honorable mention in Marsh Mayhem at Wild Adventures or Road Runner Express at Kentucky Kingdom. The later was also relocated to Six Flags New England as Gotham City Gauntlet. In that video, Canobie Coaster said: Then the bunny hills in the second half can offer some pops of airtime if they aren't braked too severely. You just need to watch out for the brakes on this one. They can bash your knees from their abruptness. You didn't say that in this video. So why?
