chamber of secrets is the most underrated tbh, it keeps that magic that the first movie had while being so completely sinister. Dobby, tom riddle, memorable quotes, lucius malfoy, quidditch, petrification, etc. so great
I even liked it when I was younger and I liked it still the most in all Harry Potter movies chambers of secrets is my fav since it was my first harry potter movie and it's vibe is just incredible so underrated and it's an really unpopular opinion but I don't like the prisoner of azkaban movie at all when I was a kid I thought this movie is boring literally and when I thought no I should watch it again cause people say it's the best but when I watch it as an adult I can still say it's pretty boring I just want the movie to get ended nothing else when I was watching and when I watch the chambers of secrets like I can't leave the movie in middle no matter I'm sitting or sleeping never felt the pace is slow always thinks it's just perfect the philosopher's stone is also good and The half blood prince as well
Chamber of Secrets is a borderline horror movie. None of the other films give off that lurking sense of pure dread between the petrifications, and the parseltounge sections with harry. Half-blood is ironically a wizard rom-com until the last 30 mins.
My favorite moment that they left out of the movies is when they are at the Lovegood house and Harry goes up to lunar room and there is pictures of all her friends with little writing in between them saying friends friend’s friends that was truly my favorite moment I really shows who Luna is and in the books J.K. Did it really well so ya and I kind of agree with you on the rankings 😊
Prisoner of Azkaban has always been my favorite. It was the first of the films I saw as a child and years later after seeing all of them it actually is the best not only story wise and entertainment wise but in filmmaking.
Prisoner of Azkaban was the only movie I rewatched time and time again as a child. I mostly attributed that to Buckbeak and the time-turner, but now that you’ve explained it more in depth, it was probably just because it was a damn good movie. 😂🤷♀️
I agree with most of what you said but i think the 6th movie was done very badly, the part of voldemort's past cut, harry and ginny's relationship dadly built...
I’d just like to mention that when I was an American child discovering the book, I had equally barely an idea of what a “sorcerer” was vs a “philosopher.” Good content I’ve seen you on instagram reels
I love HP. Saw the films first and read the books for the first time in August 2017 while recovering from surgery (they were so fun). When I first heard of the books like, 16 years earlier, I had no clue what they were about. I did hear that the US version of the first book changed the word "Philosopher's" in the title to "Sorcerer's" with the target demographic being boys approximately 6 to 16. For decades in the US, if a boy voluntarily picked up a book with certain words in the title, like Philosopher, they were putting a Kick Me sign on their own backs. Philosophers spouted philosophy, and that was considered wimpy. In the US, we aren't taught about a Philosopher's Stone in the elementary years. In fact, the only alchemy we ever heard about was a short blurb that those old dudes were always trying to turn lead into gold. Even the teachers snorted derisively afterward. End of lesson. Oddly, girls would likely have picked up the book, thinking it was about philosophy and would have been confused that it wasn't about it at all. I like to think they'd have enjoyed it if they read it to the end, though, but that fact might have made boys decide it was a "girls' book," at least for a few years, and still wouldn't have touched it, because, well, "cooties." In short, HP would have eventually found its US audience, but would likely have taken many years, which no publisher wants to experience. What I found strange was how Bloomsbury (the British publishers) made Rowling alter her name to sound masculine, as (per their own admission) the same target demographic would never touch an action book written by an untested female author (but are okay with it once she's proven herself). So, unless they noticed the opening title pages, which states her name as Joanne in micro font, it wasn't going to be pointed out in any big way until sales proved she had the chops. Conversely, US boys wouldn't have had a problem with the author being a woman, so it seems both societies have hangups among their respective demographics.
prisoner of azkaban could be quite confusing for someone who didnt read the book though. ive had multiple people say to me on and offline that it was never covered that harrys dad was an animagus let alone that he would turn into a stag. thats a major flaw in the movie and that knocks it down to B tier for me.
CoS is my fav movie of the lot! The suspense and characters were done well. It was the last movie of the series where my fav of the trio, Ron had some sort of a spine before he became the insecure, cowering boy from series 3 on.
I completely agree with you about the end of Hallows 2. It was probably the only time I was truly disappointed in a change from book to movie. The first movie, I was a little bummed about what they cut out of the book, but by then, Prisoner was out, and seeing them get progressively longer, I knew they'd have to cut out a bunch to make a 90 minute movie for the time. I already knew they'd have to cut more and more, even predicting the movies getting longer. But to a good degree, the books always talked about, however much he hated it and tried to change it, Voldemort was still a human
Awesome 1 - Chamber of Secrets - the novel is quite weak / lacking in actual story, but the film really brings the spook and horror to life (particularly as a kid) 2 - Philosopher's Stone - a purely magical introduction to the world Really Good 3 - Goblet of Fire - the best book by far, and while far from a faithful adaption, the film still captures the principal tone and 'coming of age' feeling of entering into a greater and larger world 4 - Order of the Phoenix - takes great liberties with the novel, but for some strange reason the fast pacing really works 5 - Prisoner of Azkaban - yeah, there is quite some audiovisual interest to bask in (particularly for cinematic snobs), but even the novel had little actual story to begin with, and the film fumbles quite a bit with the tone and humour (Knight Bus, Trelawney, that werewolf...) Ok 6 - Deathly Hallows 1 - (somewhat forgettable, but) okay Awful 7 - Half-Blood Prince - this really puts 'Twilight' into perspective 8 - Deathly Hallows 2 - Voldemort doesn't bitchslap
I watched them as a young adult HP fan when they were released, and vividly remember watching the CoS credits roll thinking “yeesh, that was pretty bad but at least they’re changing director for the next one” I liked HBP a lot (despite it missing lots of important things out) because there seemed to be a big jump in quality in the main characters’ acting and the whole thing was more serious and the characters more nuanced. The main problem with the whole HP series is that its foundations are very whimsical and jokey, and the shift in tone to make it a LoTR style mythological saga doesn’t entirely come off. That’s very much the case with the films where the adult actors (and directors) in the early films seem to be leaning into the pantomime element, so the transition is a bit rough.
I actually pretty much agree with everything you've said. The only thing preventing PoA from being a 10/10 was the firebolt not getting it's glory that it did in the books. Goblet of Fire felt just too rushed in many places, etc in the book the Dursley scene is one of the best Dursley's moments. Halfblood Prince as you said, it was really ruined with the lack of Voldemort's back story. We're not supposed to like him but the book made us feel sorry for younger him. Order of the Phoenix, I hate it for killing off my favorite character... But the department of mysteries scene?! Is that all they had?? And Neville with his parents?! We needed more Neville justice on the movies.
The Department of Mysteries scene was way too long and drawn out in the book. All of the locations were unnecessary except the prophecy room and the death chamber. Also, Neville had more of an arc in the movie than in the book. He actually stands up to Bellatrix in the movie, whereas in the book he is easily in the book

Chamber of Secrets is my favorite movie. The movie also stars my favorite character... Gilderoy Lockhart. He is the perfect character for the movie and really funny.
1. Goblet of Fire 2. Deathly Hallows P2 3. Chamber of Secrets 4. Prisoner of Azkaban 5. Philosophers Stone 6. Order of the Phoenix 7. Deathly Hallows P1 8. Half-Blood Prince
@@officialmonarchmusic - Very eventful movie - Probably the funniest one as well imo - I kinda prefer the movies where the actors were around their mid teen years. - Always thought the underwater task was so cool. The yule ball as well - Cool seeing students from other schools - A lot of good soundtracks It’s very magical, relateable, emotional and funny to me. I am not making any comparions to the book because I haven’t read any of them.
@@LakzYTAhhhhhh, probably makes sense. I hate the 4th movie more than I probably should but it utterly ruined the book in several ways. But the thing that really pushes it over the top for me is Dumbledore’s characterization. Absolutely horrible, he’s a disgusting and just annoyed guy who doesn’t feel anything like Albus Dumbledore. Every character felt a bit off, but him most of all. Also, it’s funny you mention you liked the soundtrack, I thought the score was a massive step down from JW’s masterful POA score, and their new composer wasn’t given enough information or direction. Director Mike Newell really needed to have read the book before making it, that was a no-brainer. Also, I do really recommend reading the books. They are good
1. Order 2. Chamber 3. Hallows Part 2 4. Stone 5. Hallows Part 1 6. Half-Blood 7. Azkaban 8. Goblet None are bad in my opinion. Some are just better than others.
1. (Best) Half-blood prince 2. Prisoner of Askaban 3. Deathly hollows part 2 4. Chamber of secrets 5. Philosopher stone 6. Order of the phoenix 7. Goblet of fire 8. Deathly hollows part 1
PoA is an extremely well shot film but it's not the most book friendly at all. The inclusion of the shrunken heads was just weird and it missed out big moments like introducing Cedric as an opponent to Harry, Cho as a potential love interest, the Quiddich Final which Gryffindor actually won and loads of things on the Marauders. Even Harry's reaction to Lupin's resignation is done poorly. In the book he actually seemed to care. Then we get the terrible decision to cast Gambon (RIP) as Dumbledore, who respectively, was a horrible choice to follow Harris despite being an amazing actor in all rights.
Fun fact: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was changed to Scorcerer's Stone because the US market thought that Philosopher's Stone was a too boring title
The concept and mythology (idk if it’s a myth but idk what else to call it) of the philosophers stone in the US is not well known at all and I actually didn’t know what it actually was until fairly recently when it was in a different show. Since it isn’t very well known here they had to change it to sorcerers stone so people knew it was about magic (and yes we know what philosophers are we aren’t that stupid).
1. Half Blood Prince 2. Prisoner Of Azkaban 3. Order Of The Phoenix 4. Deathly Hollows 2 5. The Sorcerers Stone 6. Deathly Hollows 1 7. Chamber Of Secrets 8. Goblet Of Fire
Don’t disagree with anything but I wouldn’t put prisoner above the rest though everything you said was true I feel I enjoyed others like order and half blood more I just find myself enjoying them and getting invested in them more feel free to try and change my mind ❤
I want to argue with you on chamber of secrets just because I love it so much and have so much nostalgia around it, yet then I sit here wondering which movie is worse than it and have to agree with you. It’s essentially lost in the shadow of the first one. The first book/movie is wonderful and builds the whole world and 2 just feels like it doesn’t add much to characters, further develops things we already know, but doesn’t thicken really any plot and is lost in the shadow of the first. Almost like a part 1 and part 2 before we get into key plot points and tropes in the prisoner and Azkaban and on
My ranking 1-Chambrer of secrets 2-Deathly hollows part 2 3-Deathly hollows part 1 4-Goblet of fire 5-Prisoner of azkaban 6-Half blood prince 7-Philosopher's stone 8-Order of phoenix All the movies for me 10/10

Alrighty. 8. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 7. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 6. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One 4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two I have problems with all of these just based on changes from the books, but I also at least really like all of them.
The most ridiculous option is a length of a potter movie is bad. If they all have 4 hours I would like it even more. Chamber is clear the best , cause it nearest on the book
So I do agree with you, when its about Goblet of fire or Prisoner of Azkaban but I think Chambee of Secrets is to underrated and would get an A from me, because it keeps the magic and the atmosphere from the first film. And I'd put Order of the Phoenix to C because I don't like these short scenes and this much cuts. And Philosopher's Stone would get an A because it's magic and perfect for a film for children.
Half-blood Prince is my favorite book too, and it might have been my favorite movie, except for the pointless scene they added of the Burrow burning down.
who thought cutting out the backstory of the main villain was a good idea?? we learned ehy he is evil being conceived under a love spell making him unabke to feel love is such a crucial plot point
Made the mistake of watching this after only seeing the first 3 movies. Since the series has been around forever I already knew Dumbledore died… but I had no idea Snape killed him. Great video tho😂
My ranking of the hp films BEST to WORST Sorcerers stone Chamber of secrets Half blood prince Deathly hallows part 1 Deathly hallows part 2 Prisoner of azkaban Order of the phoenix Goblet of fire What do you think of my ranking? Bretts thoughts?
The half blood Prince is the worst film in the series by far. It’s an extremely dark book that they turned into a romantic comedy, and they left out so much of the important stuff. The teen romance drama was very overplayed and Harry and Ginny’s relationship was done horribly. They tried to make Ron being poisoned a funny scene which is ridiculous. The burrow being destroyed too, another ridiculous moment. Just a terrible film. Goblet of fire you’ve ranked fairly. Definitely the second worst in the series for me. Deathly Hallows part 2 is the third worst, particularly with the whole Harry-Hermione romance scenes which were never in the book, and the things they made Ron say which weren’t in the book either. Your justifications for hating Chamber of Secrets aren’t valid. Yeah I sorta get the whole du ex machina thing but it’s still a really solid story otherwise, and the film is mostly faithful, it’s defo no where near the worst film in the series.
Chamber of secrets is my fav and so good it's mystery element hook you till end also it's longest movie which is a plus point there is no Harry Potter movie I think which deserves a place less than A They should be A+ or A
in my opinion goblet of fire should be lower, as well as both deathly hollows chamber of secrets should be higher, aspecially as an earlier film and possibly prisoner of azkaban should be a bit lower, just because of the buckets of confusion from only-movie fans.. but idk
Sad no one is telling about the outstanding bgm of goblet of fire movie 🙂 🤷♂️ Though the movie itself was a awful thing such could be but you must admit that it has the best music score, I guess amongst whole franchise.....no doubt.... So sinister, so mature--- I think this movie was the bridge or starting of whole storyline where it truns to dark movie from as usual happily kids one.... I would trash this movie in bin but its outstanding music scores saved its day....lol 😂 🙌 👏
I almost agree with all of your views on the films 😁 especially the complicated feelings about HBP but overall liking it, and GoF just being a disappointment compared to the book. PoA really is my favorite by far, too! PS that was George in the picture 😂
I think chamber of secrets is actually a rly good movie its in A tier for me, the book as well I thought that the mystery was good. Also i dont think half blood prince is good
I agree that changing the title of the first movie is both insulting and just plain stupid, but the... thing said here is strange. Philosopher's Stone refers to basically the mythical end goal of alchemy. It's both a literal and metaphorical substance that is supposed to give alchemists the ability to transmute anything to anything else. That is why it's so stupid that they changed the name to sorcerer's stone which has no real meaning where Philosopher's Stone is something that would actually be applicable to a world of wizards and potions. But it has nothing to do with Americans or anyone for that matter not knowing what a philosopher is
I would have liked a proper look at your tier list after you made it, you placed the last movie and ended the video, would have been nice to look at the list.
Can´t agree with all choices here. Order of the phoenix was my favourite book and the only of the movies were I was so disappointed in the adaption, I actually left the theatre and ate something at McDonalds next door, waiting for my friends to finish this crap. Good memories~
1. Prisoner of Azkaban 2. Philosophers stone 3. Deathly Hallows 4. Chamber of Secrets 5. Goblet of Fire 6. Order of phoenix 7. Half-Blood Prince I count deathly hallows as one huge film rather than a pt.1 and pt.2. Its basically a 4hr movie
8 - Chamber of Secrets 7- Order of Phoenix 6- Prisoner of Azkaban 5- Deathly Hallows Part 1 4- Philosophers Stone 3- Half Blood Prince 2- Deathly Hallows Part 2 1- Goblet of Fire
The Sorcerer's Stone is an S Tier for me. I really can't put it anywhere else in good heart. I also just love all of the movies. The only one I don't really like is the Goblet of Fire.
Ok I knew that the first book was a little bit longer in America but when you said goblet of fire was 636 pages I was like what the America version is 737 pages or smt like that and then I was watching a different vid and they said that order of the Phoenix was 700 smt pages and then the American version is 870 pages like why are the American versions longer?
pretty much my ranking is also the same: 1) Prisoner of Azkaban -4.5/5 2) Deathly Hallows Pt 1- 4.5/5 3) Half Blood Prince- 4/5 4) Deathly Hallows Pt 2- 4/5 5) Order of the Phoenix- 3.5/5 6) Philosopher's Stone- 3.5/5 7) Chamber of Secrets- 3/5 8) Goblet of Fire- 3/5
my rankings (from 1 to 8) (I'm starting to read the first book) 1. Deathly Hallows P1 - I love the way they build up to P2 and the Malfoy Manor battle was done perfectly in my opinion and the opening scenes are phenomenal 2. Deathly Hallows P2 - Great ending, I just wish we got to actually see Fred, Remus and Tonks fall and I wanted to see more of Dad Harry 3. Prisoner of Azkaban - Only because all 3 of my favourite characters have a major role (Sirius,Hagrid,Remus) and I love the story of saving Buckbeak 4. Goblet of Fire - Had it recorded on my grandparents TV so its the one ive seen the most, i love the story of Voldemort manipulating the tournament 5. Philosopher's Stone - Best start to a series imaginable. Just wish we got to see more of the Dursley's like we did in the books and the dialogue between Prof. M and D 6. Half Blood Prince - I like the story of Voldemort's story but I didn't like the fight at the burrow although it was shot beautifully 7. Order of the Phoenix - I love the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort but Deathly Hallows P1 ruined it for me with Umbridge's return 8. Chamber of Secrets - I like the story however it was too long and boring in some parts. Dosen't mean its bad though
Order of the pheonix movie throws the whole series off and doesn’t understand the source material. Great changes were made but stylistically it stunts the progression of the series and the writing lacks so much of the themes and emotions this story is meant to provide. The whole time this movie just wanted to get itself over and done with while taking no regard for what it actually needed in order for the story to flourish. The direction of the actors sucked that they end up just becoming PlayStation 2 npc’s. As we are meant to be going into more darker territory with the series this movie ends up being too afraid to embody the darkness and just results in being too much of a kiddy Disney version of Harry Potter. Don’t even get me started on how awfully this movie was lit!!!!! Although the movie has great moments and re writes that were necessary it is easily the worst out of the entire movie series and ruins so much for the next three films to pay off. This obviously due to the new writer not really understanding the world and characters like Steven Kloves does
Love the video! Let me ask this about the Prisoner of Azkaban film… if you have only seen the movies, why does Harry see a Stag Patronus at the lake? … The fact that it is damn near an empirical impossibility for a movie-only fan to answer this question is such an unforgivable omission! It forever robs movie-only watchers of one of the book’s most potent emotional payoffs. Really tarnishes film 3 for me. That the later movies also never explain the Stag still boggles my mind to this day.
I agree with you almost entirely on the films AND the books. Prisoner of Azkaban is by far the best, and it’s actually my favorite film of all time, period. Half-Blood Prince is the best book, as well. But I have to challenge you a bit on the film Goblet of Fire. It’s by FAR the worst film. It’s SO bad. The pacing is atrocious. The acting is over the top, which we can blame Newell for. At the beginning, the mysteries to be answered in the book are mostly answered within the first 10 minutes. And the movie is just LOUD. There’s no moments of contemplation. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I hate that film, and I think Mike Newell should be arrested for what he did to it. Yeah, I said it.
I really hated Prisoner of Azkaban and I skip it through most of my marathons. Literally it's such a pointless film. And I think cinematography objectively is good but it's not my taste. Like outside of Order of the Phoenix, it's pretty boring atmospherically to me.
as much as i love the books i really dont think apart from the first 3 films that they are good at all i wouldnt say they are classics but just popular films. Also we DID get norbit the dragon
I love the books the deathly hallows is my favourite book but I don't read I have all of them as audiobooks read by Stephen fry He is an amazing dumbledoor I would say
POA is the popular choice but it always seems to be style over script. Yes it’s the best looking and directed movie, but as others have said, they left out a lot. And it isn’t a long movie and the book is not as big as the next 4
S Tier - Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows 2 A Tier - Order of the Phoenix, Goblet of Fire, Philosophers Stone B Tier - Prisoner of Azkaban C Tier - Deathly Hallows 1, Chamber of Secrets
@@pineapple5541 I have actually, but I don’t really care if the movies are book accurate? They stand in a different medium to them and shouldn’t be forced to be exactly like how the books were
Movie Order: 1. Chamber of Secrets 2. Half Blood Prince 3. Philosophers Stone 4. Deathly Hallows pt 2 5. Deathly Hallows pt 1 6. Goblet of Fire 7. Order of the Phoenix 8. Prisoner of Azkaban Book Order: 1. Philosophers Stone 2. Deathly Hallows 3. Half-Blood Prince 4. Chamber of Secrets 5. Goblet of Fire 6. Prisoner of Azkaban 7. Order of the Phoenix
Americans don’t know what philosophers are in this context. It’s not condescending. Changing the name was the correct choice. Chamber book has the best mystery in the series and best foreshadowing. It’s underrated. I agree about the problems with the movie. I still place it above PoA, GoF, and HPB. I don’t understand why people love POA so much but I also think Cuaron is overrated in general. DH1 is the best movie.
POA is so far clear of the other movies it’s not even close. The long takes, the incredible transitions, the foreshadowing, the symbolisms and the incredible acting especially in the shrieking shack where you get to see 3 iconic British actors go toe to toe as old classmates.
I have Halfblood Prince much lower. Harry and Ginny have no chemistry. Their whole relationship is awkward which ruins the romance aspect of the movie. Too many Voldemort memories are Missing. The Half Blood Prince sub Plot is almost missing. A completley pointless attack of the Burrow by the Death Eaters. Sorry but for me its a D, same as Goblet of Fire. I would put Deathly Hallow Part 2 one tier down. The book ending is epic. The movie did change too many things and not for the better. There is no explanation on why Harry survived in the Forest which is a huge blunder. Dumbledores backstory with Ariana is only touched briefly. The Final Battle between Harry and Voldemort is much better in the books.
@@jxgalaxy3810 I watched the scene again. Sorry but no. No explanation given. Harry does not even ask why he is allowed to go back to the world of the living. He just accepts it like its the most common thing in the world. In the book Harry is confused. He asks Dumbledore how he was still alive. One of the biggest reveals in the book series: Voldemort took Harry's blood to rebuilt his own body. By doing so he took some of Lily's protection inside him. As long as Voldemort lives he cannot die at the hand of Voldemort himself. It even gives major payback to the "Gleam of triumph in Dumbledore's eyes" at the end of Goblet of Fire. The Elderwand in the forest scene does not really matter because Harry does not defend himself. In order to destroy a Horcrux you have to kill the container. So there is no way around it: Harry was really dead otherwise the Horcrux would still be intact.
