I love how they referenced the “Original Eight” in Ultimate, because those are the only characters that are unlocked from the start (besides Mii Fighters even though they aren’t part of the Original Eight and you unlock them by simply making a Mii Fighter of each type) it’s been over three years since I’ve had to unlock a character in that game but I still remember it!
Those were such good times! I stayed up all night with my roommate on launch and we unlocked all of the characters despite having classes the next day. Truly one of the great memories! Thanks for watching!
@@GWallPro you’re welcome! Some of my favorite times are when I get with friends at my lunch table and we just play Smash Bros on my Switch. We’ve even done eight players before!! It is so much fun, though rage, spamming, and arguments do happen. Oh well, I guess not everything can be perfect! But it’s still a lot of fun!
In the first game, no, Pit wasn't considered. Only ones considered were King Dedede (via files), Mewtwo, Bowser, and Marth (confirmed by the man himself)
Ahh gotcha, thanks! I could've sworn I heard somewhere that Pit was considered but I guess that was either Melee of I was thinking of another character entirely. Either, way, hope you enjoyed the video regardless!
@GWallPro Nah. Those were the only 4 characters considered (as well as Falco, Peppy, and Slippy as Fox alts). I heard Pit was a rumor but it was never confirmed if that was the case or not. And yes. The video was fun
Haha thanks! These last few have been relatively copy/paste but glad you liked how this one turned out. And yeah sorry I'm not the biggest fan of Byleth 🤷♂️
@@GWallPro the thing is that Fire Emblem Three Houses is a genuinely outstanding game and actually the best game in the WHOLE franchise, so strangely Byleth deserves a spot moreso than any of FE character (asides from Marth). But i will NEVER forgive how Nintendo went about adding her
@@Cadoe You say Three Houses is the best game in the series, but it’s not. It has tone of gameplay issues, like the unbalanced class system and the dull and monotonous map design.
Yeah this ranking is accurate. They just got better and better. Smash Ultimate DLC and Pre-DLC Roster is probably the greatest roster in all of gaming.
But I think the layout of the roster got worse over time, more and more minimalistic yet confused as the roster grew bigger. I miss the roundedcornered panels of Melee and Brawl.
Looking back, Smash DLC really is the video game form of the "We're Back / It's Over" chart. Mewtwo, Roy, Lucas, Ryu, and Cloud - "WE'RE BACK!" Corrin and Bayonetta - "it's so over..." Joker, Hero, and Banjo - "WE'RE SO BACK!" Terry - "bros..." Byleth and Min Min - "it's over..." Steve and Sephiroth - "WE'RE SO BACK!" Pyra/Mythra, Kazuya, Sora - "bros..."
Idk if you’ve heard of this before, but there’s an AMAZING mod for Smash 64 called Smash 64 Remix. It adds a bunch of characters from future Smash installments like Ganon and Mewtwo but then also new characters like Conker the Squirrel. I am very curious where you would’ve ranked that roster (even though it’s a mod) Now that I think of it, a ranking of Smash fan game rosters would be fun 👀
6:22 ROB in smash feels so weird, he’s actually not an original character, he was originally an accessory for the NES, but like, he role in Subspace makes it so technically you could argue that he’s a smash original, I feel it’s more of a technically though, still I love ROB he’s amazing
I personally like quality over quantity but I don’t think extra bad characters make the roster worse they just don’t make it better. Like Isabelle being in it doesn’t make the roster worse it just doesn’t do absolutely anything for it because I never play as her or play against her. And I personally don’t like many of the characters they added in the DLC. Steve just doesn’t make any sense. I don’t dislike non Nintendo characters in the game but I don’t think he fits in. PAC man and sonic are similar enough to Nintendo and are often in multiple Nintendo products. And I think they should have added characters like Waluigi, poochy, Louie, Donkey kong Jr, paper Mario, super monkey ball, chibi-robo, and more unhuman characters. I would even take Tails, Knuckles, Mrs PAC man, and Blinky who’s different costumes would be the different ghosts.
Minecraft is the best selling game of all time. Not having Steve in a crossover game all about celebrating video games is just stupid, I don’t see why you think he doesn’t fit in
@@tales9342you seriously need me to explain to you why a block person doesn’t belong in a game with Mario? With your logic, master chief should be in smash bros. The Fortnite default skin should be in smash bros.
The smash ultimate roster is absolutely peak! The only thing that could have been added in my opinion is another character from the sonic the hedgehog series but realistically this roster is as good as it can get. An absolutely perfect roster.
2:50 Fun fact when you said they weren't going to cut Ness despite his game wasn't as known or popular at the time. They were actually intending on replacing Ness with Lucas because, originally, Mother 3 was going to be released on the N64 under the name "Earthbound 64." However, the game got canceled so they decided to keep Ness in.
Great video! Even though Smash 64 is the weakest in my opinion, it had many of the characters it should have, along with a few surprise picks like Captain Falcon and Ness. Really like the variety they went for with the OG
Thanks for watching! I agree, it's hard to comet with 50+ rosters when you have 12 characters, but those were most of the essentials and the wild cards we got were great!
Can you ranking the characters rosters from the super smash bros fan-games? Like smash remix 64, Akaneia, super smash flash 2006, super smash flash 2, pmex remix, project + and super smash bros crusade.
I mean… the Wii Fit Trainer represents solely the “Wii era”, and Wii Fit was kinda popular among casual gamers… she/he is a important part of Nintendo History. And my main. 😂
Honestly the smash ultimate dlc was very hit or miss in my opinion, the first fighter pass was definitely worse in my opinion because I didn't want another fire emblem rep and honestly I figured there was gonna be an arms rep eventually but the biggest disappointment was getting piranha plant instead of Waluigi
I think the roster from SSBU launch is the best, it doesn't have P&M, Min Min, Kazuya or Steve. I think the game would be the most balance, i kn there is still Sonic, Pikachu, ROB and G&W; but I still think is very balance.
smash ultimate really feels like quanity over quality tbh- you mean jigglypuff has no fairy type moves, yoshi has no egg retical, but hero gets like every special move from his home game? it feels very... sloppy. like the only real goal was to see how many copyrights they could stack on rather than making a great nintendo crossover (not to mention the severe lack of side content. its... not a very good game unfortunately)
Smash Ultimate is absolutely not for everybody, and while this may be a minority opinion, I completely respect the takes! My guess is characters like Yoshi and Puff were developed early on and basically just ported over their moves from Smash 4 with a couple tweaks to ease up development time. With DLC, especially with 3rd parties, I assume there was a contract that required certain moves to be referenced or just simply that the team had a lot more time to focus all of their energy on one character. It does make the roster a bit unbalanced in terms of who got treated better, but I still like it a bunch! I respect your take though, and I hope you enjoyed the video regardless!
64: very good and most pretty. Gsme cube: wrost ever but still good for making classic in series Wii: one my fav for bring like sonic and snake and wolf Wii U: another good one Switch the best after Wii but hate last row not in middle and there to many dark sqaures for empty slots. Mike it blue or something.
Melee has the worst roster imo. Some great additions like Bowser and Zelda, but overall, so many clone characters that aren’t even that good. I think they’re fine in Ultimate where they’re acknowledged as clones and just the icing on top of an already huge roster, but in Melee, they make up so much of the roster and are very strange additions like Young Link and Pichu. Unlike Ganondorf who is a unique fighter first and a clone second
Very understandable way to put it! I personally like the addition of the unique characters we got in Melee such as G&W, Mewtwo, Marth and Ice Climbers, but I can completely understand the feeling that the abundance of clone characters tarnishes the roster a bit. Thanks for watching!
The original roster is terrible, its supposed to be a mix of series but 1/3 of the roster consists of just Mario characters, which is a frankly ridiculous imbalance, replacing at least 2 of Luigi, Yoshi and Donkey Kong with Pit and Little Mac would have been much better
It’s Mario. Literally Nintendo’s most popular franchise ever. Of course it’s gonna get 1/3 of the roster, why are you complaining? Especially when the roster is as small as it is and we wouldn’t have a lot of other options anyway.
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 first of all, no, Pokémon is fsr more popular, second of all, its supposed to be a game that celebrates Nintendo in general, so a disbalanced roster makes no sense when it means ignoring so many other Nintendo franchises, lets not forget by this point Kid Icarus and Punch Out were both also popular, the first Animal Crossing game was coming out and could easilly have been advertised by having a representative and plenty of Nintendo classics like Ice Climber, Balloon Fighter, Duck Hunt and Excite Bike also existed. This is all before you consider that they picked 4 Mario characters and cancelled a second Kirby representative in King Dedede who was actually planned to benincluded at one point, and even the Legend of Zelda series only had one rep in Link and could easilly have included Zelda, like there was literally zero reason for such a comical disbalance
@@theshades5702 The literal biggest reason for the disbalance in the roster is because Mario is the most important Nintendo franchise. Obviously it was going to get multiple characters no matter what, just like how Pokémon had 2 characters, yet that’s somehow not a problem. And again, there’s only 12 characters and they couldn’t add anymore because of time constraints, so they were always going to be ignoring several other Nintendo franchises regardless of how popular they were. Not to mention, this was only the first game in the series, of course they would be selective, only picking the most important characters with a small few unique choices for variety because they weren’t ready to risk it all by advertising a bunch of other lesser known games in case this one flopped.
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 hmm.. apparently you think 2 and 4 are equal, great start, can tell you're the brains here, you're right 2 and 4 are absolutely the same number and 1/3 and 1/6 are exactly the same fractions, be sure to teach your kids that!
@@theshades5702 So, you got no other points besides that 2 and 4 are the exact same number, I assume? Good way of thinking, i can see you’re a real winner at debating. That’s right, 1/3 and 1/6 are the same fractions and there’s no differences between them. Thanks for telling me something useful because I know you had more to say that was clearly on topic!
@@repoversemediumokay yes,but compared to who we got in brawl and ultimate. I just think it's the weakest of the trio. It only gave us 6 characters that were hype for me. (Mega Man, Greninja, Cloud, Mewtwo returning,Roy returning, and Bayonetta) That's pretty much it for me.
Honestly I think Melee is last. A large portion of its newcomers were clones of another fighter (Ganondorf, Falco, Young Link, Dr. Mario, Roy, Pichu) leading to a less diverse and somewhat underwhelming roster. Smash 4 would still be on the lower end but I think it had a great roster overall with newcomers such as Ryu, Bayo, Shulk, Megaman, PAC-Man, Robin, etc and even DLC returns like Lucas and Roy.
@@supermariogamer1757 oh yeah, I definitely understand why a lot of characters were clones but when comparing it to other rosters I can’t just give it a pass due to time constraints. Rushed or not that is the final roster and I honestly don’t think it’s a bad one but out of the entire Smash series, it’s easily the weakest.
