I've completely Rewritten this Comment to address people's problems with my placements of Elsa and Moana. I didn't rewatch Frozen before making this video, so my opinion on Elsa was based purely off memory, I had no intention of disregarding any mental health problems she faced, I simply remembered her being stupid and MASSIVELY OVERRATED, so that is how I made her out in the video. In hindsight my opinions on her were far too harsh, though I probably still prefer everyone above her anyway, just look at it as there being a large gap between her and Merida. As for Moana, just because everyone says she is great doesn't automatically mean I have to like her, people in this comment section have been disregarding or misrepresenting the reasons why I don't like her. There are no less than 3 main reasons why I don't Like Moana and I want to make them clear. 1: She is Selfish. Moana is easily the most selfish Disney Princess, she never, not once! Does anything for anyone else in the entire movie, and whe she ever goes out to save the world, she is getting exactly what she always wanted, being able to sail on the sea. Therefore she is never forced to sacrifice anything and the movie constantly rewards her for being selfish, a literal Goddess and a demigod borderline bow down to her by the climax and she embraces this praise fully, showing no signs of humility. She literally shouts out her name into the ocean like she herself is some great achievement. Why earn respect and praise through hard work and sacrifice, when you can just praise yourself and proclaim how great you are?!?!? 2: She is a Jerk. Moana is extremely condensending, she seems to treat everyone else as lesser than herself throughout the movie, she shows mocking facial expressions to everyone else on the island and is so proud of everything she ever does. She yells at Maui to FORCE him to help her return the heart of Te Fiti instead of trying to calmly and logically convince him, she resorts to physically assaulting him with her oar when he starts boasting (which isn't cool of him to do, but it shouldn't justify physically attacking him). Moana comes off as extremely emotionally fragile, like she needs constant praise or she will implode, therefore she tries to put herself above everyone else and find ways of claiming superiority just to satisfy her selfish nature. 3: She is ALMOST a Mary Sue. I retract my statement from the video that Moana is a Mary Sue, however I still think she is a little too perfect. Every other character in the movie is made to look like an idiot, or they are wrong. But NEVER, NOT ONCE, is Moana ever wrong throughout the entire movie. Moana is also an instant master at everything she does, she has too many skills at the beginning of the movie making it feel impossible that she can fail, and the few things she doesn't know she learns almost instantly and manages to somehow do better than anyone else. The only times she is ever "wrong" or "fails" is for the most obscure and dumb reasons, like bringing a gosh forsaken pig with her on the first attempted boat ride, or inexplicably becoming unintelligent near the Finale and not listening to obvious advice from Maui. I hope that this has made things more clear, as I am tired of writing out long replies explaining all this every 2 hours.

I think there is some nuance to Elsa's character that you missed out on. Her tendency to withdraw is grounded in her backstory. It's not logical from the outside, but she is working with the information she was given and that information was that her powers would be seen as a threat by most if not all and that she should never reveal them. It's not just that one time the trolls said it, it was drilled in by her parents during the bulk of her formative years. Calling her an idiot for not instantly unlearning years of conditioning when she was given no proof that said conditioning was toxic and incorrect seems too harsh. It would be like saying Simba was an idiot for not initially wanting to reclaim Pride Rock even though he believed that doing so would mean facing repercussions for Mufasa's death and also Hakuna Matata helped him cope. I was also under the impression that Elsa didn't bring back Anna, Anna herself did through her sacrifice. Nothing in the prophecy said that Anna couldn't be the one performing the act of true love. I'm not a super fan of Elsa or anything and you don't have to be either, but criticism should be done for the right reasons

@@Rockotarthepurplehatguy That's fair, Frozen 2 is one of those movies I respect more than I like. The plot is extremely messy but I think it was admirable of the team to reach out to Sámi advocates for input on how best to portray them respectfully and also allowing the movie to be dubbed into Northern Sámi. I am a bit disappointed that they never followed up on Kristoff's Sámi coding in the first movie but I believe that's mostly a byproduct of the messy plotting

Elsa was a victim of childhood psychological abuse. Her brain and personality were developing while constantly being locked away and made to believe she was a dangerous monster. Her flaws are exceptionally realistic considering she was one of the only Princesses to experience real trauma.

@@Rockotarthepurplehatguy I think partly why I like her is that in many ways, she's a strange mirror version of Ariel. Both have parents who are trying to vier them in a certain direction, both desire a life of adventure in some way or another, and both of their respective quests are kick started when said parent destroys something meaningful to them. The difference being, Merida actually has something to complain about, and isn't simply given her happy ending without having to lift a finger or grow as a person. She screws up big time and spends the whole film trying to unscrew up and for a Disney princess that 9 times out of 10 the biggest character flay they have is naivety, it's refreshing. When it comes to the section about Aurora being "less annoying, unlike Merida who complained every 5 seconds" when it came to accepting forced marriage... it's forced marriage?? ofc she has the right to complain about it as much as she did. She didn't need to be as meek and "beautifully sorrow" about it as Aurora did, she had the right to be loud, make a scene and protest
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy Год назад
While she is right, it is unfortunately not very entertaining to watch, and they don't balance out her complaints enough with her just being a good, friendly person. Even though she is right to complain, it comes off more that she is complaining because "that's who she is and what she does" rather than sounding like a valid complaint from a normal logical person who shouldn't have to be forced to do what is being pushed on her. It is a failure on the movie's part to make us care about Merida as a person before she goes complain crazy. It would be better if they cut some of the fillery mom bear scenes and replaced them with more scenes at the beginning showing us all the aspects of Merida's character, not JUST her selfish and annoying side, but a kind and more quirky side (the only times she ever acts more quipy or fun, is when she is mocking someone, not very endearing).

More like arranged marriage. We're talking societies that for 90% of their history picked the best (political and social, I admit) option for the yuong ones. But some required consent, idk which in what time, arragned marriages have been a thing for a LONG ass time. We don't like it because is a product of out time and culture. For Aurora it was indeed forced, since it had been picked when she was a baby, and she never knew it. Merida must've known she'd marry one day, that's how becoming a monarch works... 9 out of 10. If she didn't know... she must've missed that lesson because it seemed like it was the perfectly normal thing to do in her kingdom. And she was given options, even though she didn't like them because of the "being free" modern shtick. Arranged, not forced. (Might seem forced from her mom's pressure on her, but we're talking royalty here, she HAS to choose, and the queen is acting accordingly)

I’d have to disagree with the Moana criticism as it feels extremely biased. She does make mistakes and she doesn’t know everything. She isn’t a Mary Sue. Her main skills were with leading a people and that was because she was going to become chief. Her wanting to go out and explore was out of her as shown in the Where You Are song. That was why she wanted to go out beyond the reef, because the island was dying and wanted to save it. The only reason her father opposed was because of his traumatic experience. Then when she goes out we see that she doesn’t know how to sail, and Maui needs to teach her. It’s shown in the scene before they get to Maui as she’s falling asleep and too focused on her line to pay attention. Then there is the darkest hour where her recklessness led to Maui’s hook cracking and him leaving.
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy 2 года назад
Even if she wasn't a Mary Sue (and I still hold to that, but it would take a century to explain why). She is still extremely selfish, smug, and unlikable as a person. The movie thinks it's fun to make everyone else look stupid, but if anyone ever dares say anything against Moana, they are literally Satan.
@colemanbrenner6555
@colemanbrenner6555 2 года назад
@@Rockotarthepurplehatguy Is she selfish though? The whole plot and her main goal in the story were to save her people by returning the heart. Crops were dying and fish were running away. When she suggested going beyond the reef, it wasn't because she selfishly wanted to sail (That was taken care of with the Where You Are Song, and redirected to her becoming leader), it was to find fish. After her I want song, she says "there are fish beyond the reef". And after she is shown the ships, she suggests finding Maui and returning the heart with her people. Her dad isn't really vilified. He just wants to keep his village safe. We understand why he doesn't want people to go beyond the reef, he watched his best friend drown when they tried to. The ocean is harsh and only does what it needs to, it's even shown when Moana tried to sail for the first time and immediately got capsized. Her first stop and lines she tried to memorize was to find and get Maui because he knew where Te'fiti (might've misspelled it) is. She doesn't know. She also doesn't know how to sail, and so asks Maui to teach her. And when she makes the mistake that led to Maui's hook to be destroyed, we understand his anger and it's depicted as justified. It started the darkest hour moment and Moana knew she screwed up. When she was smug with stuff like saying she was self-taught (which was depicted as a joke) and when she tried to get through Ta'kaa (prob misspelling that too: p) recklessly, she is punished for it and learns/grows after. Sorry if this was long.

@@colemanbrenner6555 (forgive my incoming rant) what about the parts where she sings about how great she is and how much she can do? Or the fact that she finds it hilarious whenever something bad happens to Maui, but gets extremely upset whenever anything bad happens to her (which rarely happens anyway). The movie makes is constantly trying to force us to like her by making everyone else look stupid in comparison, how come literally no one else on the island even considers going beyond the reef, oh yeah! That's right, because we have to make Moana look special and daring, and stunning, and brave, and ect. Her failure at the end is just stupid in my opinion, Maui is right to get upset, since somehow miss perfect Moana decides to completely remove her brain and stop listening, why? Oh that's right, because she is completely self absorbed and thinks her way is better. I don't get how I'm supposed to feel sorry for her in the next couple scenes when she honestly deserved Maui abandoning her. But of course she suddenly goes back to loving herself as soon as her grandma shows up to praise her very existence. I don't want to come off as rant-y, but I absolutely cannot stand Moana, she and her movie are so infuriatingly overrated, in my opinion. I respect your opinion of liking her as a character, but I will never understand why.

@@Rockotarthepurplehatguy Didn't Maui try and abandon her on a deserted island and try to eat her pet chicken, and then when she got back on the boat tried to throw her overboard? Honestly the tranquilizer thing wasn't that bad, and the boasting with the heart led to the coconut people trying to kill them, and she stopped the smugness. Heck Maui even laughs when bad stuff happens to her on a similar level, like with the pee thing he found it funny. And when Tamatoa almost killed Maui, despite being bait she doesn't laugh at his pain. When he gets his top half turned into a shark, she's more "I don't know how to react" then giggling/laughing. Also, other characters did think about going beyond the reef. Like, you know, her father. And that led to him watching his best friend drown. There was also the whole thing about her ancestors not sailing anymore because the ocean became too dangerous and killed people. Both of her songs weren't about how great she was. Her first was her "I want" song. How she has been feeling conflicted with who she is. Is she a chief? is she an explorer? is she just a kid? All of that comes to an end when she finally knows who she is in her last song: "I am Moana!". Identity has been a running theme in the story. Mau's identity was soley tied to how people saw/loved him, Te'kaa wasn't a person she wanted to be/a false identity, Tamatoa's identity is soley based on his vanity and how shiny/how he is viewed, like in Schaffrillas's vid he's like a foil to Maui in similarities. With her trying to sail through the rocks, she saw Te'kaa couldn't touch water and was busy fighting Maui. She tried to use that as a way to get through and try to return the heart. Only thing was she was wrong, and it of course let to said darkest hour, where SHE WAS TOLD OFF. She isn't perfect. She makes mistakes and needs help from folks like Maui. Lastly, imaging your granddaughter is alone and crying. You'd want to make her feel better. It wasn't a way to make her feel perfect. Just that she was there and left soon after. Rant is ok. No worries. For me I'm just giving reason to why she isn't this selfish mary sue. She makes mistakes, doesn't know everything, went to save her people/island, and learns/grows. Like a normal character.

I’m glad you talked about Cinderella in Cinderella 3 because the Cinderella sequels do wonders for her character. I only recently watched the Cinderella sequels and because of them, Cinderella is now one of my favourite Disney Princesses. You explained Cinderella in the 3rd movie and why she’s so strong there but even in Cinderella 2, she still has some strong moments, even if Cinderella 2 as a whole isn’t particularly good. The stuff with Cinderella and Anastasia in particular is very strong in Cinderella 2, seeing Cinderella help out Anastasia, even with the amount of grief Anastasia gave Cinderella in the past. And of course, Cinderella 3 only makes her even better. Cinderella is a great princess and we largely have the sequels to thank for that (even if she is still pretty solid in the first movie alone).

I'm not against your placement of Elsa's rank, but it wasn't her idea to isolate herself. The troll leader told her parents to do that (after scaring her with what she could become with her powers). All of this obviously messed with her brain. She was living constantly in fear. I'm pretty sure she has some sort of mild paranoia or anxiety disorder because of that. Idk. As someone suffering from anxiety, we do make dumb decisions. Her wanting isolation even after years of it ruining her makes sense. It's all she's known and it's what she thought was right, especially with the troll leader's influence. Her not wanting to talk about it at first also makes sense. Troll leader said no one should know about her powers, especially with him falsifying Anna's memories of what really happened and even made Anna forget that Elsa had powers. She also hasn't really talked to people a lot (except with her parents) for most of her life so, she would end up having communication problems. I sympathize with her a lot so, just saying. Or maybe I am just projecting. lol I do think Elsa could've been written better and yeah, the sequel is meh.

I've seen that people tend to just completely disregard the fact that she was a child when the trolls and her parents told her to hide away and that she grew up with that. And in the sequel, she abandoned her kingdom and sister AGAIN, even after all the things Anna did to finally stay together.

@savana6561
@savana6561 Год назад
In the first movie, she ran away because she was afraid of her powers hurting people, which almost did, and she was also being chased and hunted by the old dude and his guards. When her powers were revealed people reacted with fear and prejudice. She didn’t feel safe there and she was afraid. Also, she didn’t know at first that Arendelle was frozen, she only found out when Anna told her. She also didn’t know how to reverse and she felt that she wouldn’t be able to fix it. Keep in mind that in during that same conversation she ended up accidentally hurting Anna which is why she was so afraid to be around people. So all in all, she felt she would do more harm than good if she went back. So you see, she left for the safety of everyone else because she grew up fearing her powers and only when she was isolated and alone did she feel confident since there was no one to hurt. In the second movie, it’s clear that she isn’t happy in Arendelle as the queen. And also, let’s not act as if in the second movie she cut off all communication with everyone, we see them about to meet up at the end for a game night. Elsa shouldn’t be expected to just sacrifice her happiness and feelings to accommodate for everyone else. She felt more free and happy in the forest so that’s where she stayed, and Anna, who was more for of a people person, took her place as Queen. Everyone ended up happy at the end of the movie bc they all found their places in life as well as themselves. Also, I’ve never heard people call Elsa the braver one.

I mean, sure, I would also like to run away when my powers start going crazy in front of many people after hiding it for so long and I would also feel relief once I'm all alone away from anyone that might hurt me, but it wasn't really bravery. It was more of a "You need to go right now! Hurry!" moment. Her running off to take a break from all that mess is okay & probably necessary, but then she said she wants to stay isolated for the rest of her life, which is both a) not okay like you pointed out and b) understandable & pretty relatable. True that it was a dumb decision but we (the mentally ill) be like that when our head's full of negative thoughts, so her reactions were valid. Even when she wants Anna to stay away forever. That wasn't a good decision like I said but completely understandable. I think the problem then lies to how the movie portrays her quick change of emotions for the Let It Go part. She's happy all of a sudden? Nice song & dress but ?????? I expected more wallowing in regret, fear, & sadness (which did happen but it was after Anna visited her there. So if she never visited, she would have still been just happy up there. But she just left the kingdom. She should still be unhappy after that experience, right? Whatever.) Or maybe I'm just projecting again. lmao Frozen 2 is just.. idk. If she doesn't wanna be ruler anymore, that's fine. Just hand off the crown to Anna. Elsa's mental health was f---ed for most of her life anyway. Gonna take years to recover. But yeah, shouldn't have left her sister like that. Edit: I still like Elsa. I was judging the writing.

I think it’s important to note that Cinderella didn’t “magically get everything she wanted” from the godmother. She ALREADY had a dress. She was already going to that ball, until the stepsisters basically assault her. All the godmother did was fix the dress, albeit with improvements, and get her an Uber. It’s also crucial that none of these glamorous gifts even last a full day. It’s already night when she leaves for the ball, and she has to come back at midnight. And once Cinderella gets back home, she’s just as happy as she can be, but seemingly ready to return to her normal miserable life with the happy memories at the ball being enough for her. She didn’t drop the slipper intentionally. She had no clue the prince would actually seek her out. I also think it’s a bit fair to include sequels when not every princess has that much screen time for development

I'm curious since Ariel is one of my favorite characters. But, what's your take on the critisim of Ariel being a typical and helpless damsel in distress? She outswam a shark, destroyed Ursula's eels in the climax, which led Ursula to grow gigantic size and allow Eric to deliver the final blow, and she saved Eric 2 times. But, everyone is saying it's not good enough because she had to be saved in the 3rd act. Also, what about the critisim of Ariel not changing or learning anything from her ordeal with Ursula? We all make mistakes. It happens to everyone. But, it's essential that you learn and grow from your mistakes. So, any comments?
@thesamuraihobbit
@thesamuraihobbit 2 года назад
I think it's the fact that Ariel's mistakes are never portrayed in the movie as her fault. She's never called out or made to account for them in a way that suggests that we shouldn't take her side. She doesn't even feel conflicted that the man she's giving her heart to regularly eats seafood, some of whom may have well been her friends when she was a mermaid.When Ariel says, "Daddy, I'm sorry, I didn't meant to, I didn't know," it's in the vein of a teenager getting caught spending too much money on their parents' credit card. Compare that to Aladdin, who ran into a similar problem. At least Aladdin admitted to being wrong for lying to the girl he loved and not freeing the Genie immediately, allowing Jafar to take over Agrabah. He straight out said, "This is all my fault." In the end, he was willing to sacrifice his relationship with Jasmine to free the Genie, showing himself to be a selfless person at heart. The same thing happened with Belle, who after the battle, told the Beast, "This is all my fault" when he lay there dying. Even though there was no way she could have predicted Gaston's trap, she still took responsibility at the eleventh hour. Ariel never had that "come to Jesus" moment. This last bit is more of a writers' problem than an Ariel problem, but it annoyed me that the human world was the magical utopia that Ariel dreamed it would be. How much better would the story be if Ariel discovered that there are rules on land. It would be a huge reality check to discover that on land, many people don't understand and that they, in fact, DO reprimand their daughters. She could have seen that there are as many, if not more restrictions in the human world than there are in the mer-world, especially for royalty. Sadly, Ariel is a perfect example of a character who creates a contradiction between intention vs presentation. Musker and Clements probably intended to give us a strong, independent young girl who needed to be free to spread her wing, rather than to be caged, but what we got was a selfish, spoiled teenager who wanted something, was refused, so she cried and caused damage, and in the end, she got everything she wanted without suffering any consequences.
@juuchanIRL
@juuchanIRL 2 года назад
ariel worked harder for her goals than most characters. critics are edgy teens who like to complain about the movies everyone likes because they think it'll bring them down a peg. most of those critics are either teen girls themselves or people who want attention by nitpicking the big stuff. none of them complain about lesser known movies because it doesnt bring in the views.

@@thesamuraihobbit I agree with a lot you said here but I just have one point to make You kind of blamed Ariel for crying until she comes damage but she never would have gone to the Sea which anyway is Ursula hadn't been spying on her to see her weakest moment and if her father hadn't caused her weakest moment but actively destroying all of her stuff Yes she's kind of flawed for what she did but in some ways it isn't always her fault as she was driven to what she did by what her father did to her first granted if she just listened to him some of this wouldn't have happened but also if she had listened Eric might be dead and that's kind of overlooked when people say that she caused all the problems by not listening Ultimately what we get here is a story of a girl who has an interest that a parent thinks of as dangerous to the point that he's willing to hurt her emotionally in order to keep her safe which drives her to rebel Tears of joy it's kind of like finding Nemo if Marlon hadn't been so overprotective to the point of being downright stifling then Nemo might not have rebelled, and the act that caused Nemo to rebel is a lot less significant than what Triton did to Ariel It's ultimately not Ariel's fault that somebody else manipulated her because of how someone else hurt her Tears of joy I also don't think that her apology doesn't count yes it's fast but that's because it's in the middle of a climax but the way she says it I can hear it in her voice how much she means it And it's not like the entire conflict is her fault in the same way it's entirely Meredith's fault in brave or entirely raya's fault in raya and The last dragon
@Interestingenough4
@Interestingenough4 Год назад
@@thesamuraihobbit I think Ariel's character arc was more subtle. She does become more mature as the movie progresses, and by the end grows to appreciate her father. It's just that Triton's arc was far more profound, and his failures had more consequences for him personally. Plus, Triton's arc drives the plot: he means absolutely the best for his family and kingdom, and in the process makes terrible mistakes, hurts his daughter and alienates his best friend, and has to overcome his prejudice against humans. So in reaction, Ariel pushes her rebellion too far, and in doing so realizes how deep she's gotten herself and those she cares about. Sometimes, the worst consequence to suffer is to watch someone else suffer in your place, because of your actions.

She apologizes for frightening the wildlife around her! She is extremely unselfish. Yes, she cooks & cleans, but this movie was made in the 1930s. Is she the brightest? Or have a lot of common sense? No, but it gives her a personality, compared to the other early princesses. She remained positive through almost the entire film as well, despite going through one of the worst things out of all of them. Lastly, none of the bad things that happened to her were her fault. She did absolutely nothing wrong, nor was she ever mean to anyone. She never even planned on getting revenge on the woman who literally hired an assassin to murder her. They told her to not show fear or emotion or any of those kinds of emotions because they are seen as bad as it will trigger her ice powers and must have it under control. They're reaching out to her, Anna wants to play with her - they're all indicating they DON'T fear her powers and trust she has them under control. Again, she just has to wear the gloves! Lots of superheroes have had a magic touch they have to cover up when it's not necessary; this should not be a big deal for Elsa. The most noble thing about Mulan is that she has two opportunities to go home: the first is Chang dismissing her showing that even though she had saved her father’s life she chose to persevere through her training beginning with the arrow (outthinking the problem while physically struggling to succeed:). She brought honor and respect to herself through earning it. The second is after it’s discovered she was a woman. Again she has the opportunity to go home, dishonor brought to the Fa family and the Imperial Army (including the inevitable destruction of the Capital) or attempt to warn the Capital that the Huns are alive. How many people would have taken that first opportunity by Chang to go home with their life and Father saved (which was her motivation, not so much her duty to China)?

Exactly, Mulan throughout the entire movie is focused on helping people and solving whatever problems arise from a place of sincere care, to the point that she's surprised and dismissive of the praise she receives in the end. That's part of what makes those final scenes so moving, because Mulan's humility is so powerful and apparent. She's simply always offering service however and whenever she can and doesn't let her personal grudges or frustrations stop her from trying to contribute in ways she believes are important. She begins to find joy and purpose in these things as well. In directing herself towards service, she's able to finally have her authentic self flourish by finding her place in a new environment, learning how she can be of value, and making consistently selfless characterizing decisions

She had the dog help her because she was already running late, it’s possible she’s done it before but if so should have been even more prepared. The chores should have been done at daybreak but it’s mid morning when she’s writing the lessons on her arm and she hadn’t started yet (also why the bath water was cold by the time she got to town) 3. If she were truly a Mary Sue, she would've had zero problems learning how to sail. She would have been able to convince Maui to return the heart immediately. She would also actually have superpowers, which she doesn't (i'm not sure where the hell you got the idea she did). She doesn't control the ocean, she can't - and doesn't - fight Tamatoa or Te Ka on her own, and she didn't magically know how to sail, she had to learn through trial and error and much struggle. Moana was chosen by the ocean BECAUSE she doesn't have any superpowers. Although they're not seen in the movie, there are other demigods and monsters besides Maui and Tamatoa. I love Moana it’s one of the best Disney princess movies for one, not to mention the music. But Moana has a whole subplot about how much she cares about her people, she tries and succeeds at bettering their lives! Moana isn’t selfish, she does everything she does to help her people, and the ocean chose her, she’s far from home and her grandma just died so the idea that she complains a bit and gets angry just makes sense. Yes, but to me it felt more like that was only her second concern, since the movie focuses way more on how she wants to go sailing, and spends way too much time trying to make her seem cool, that it actually backfires and makes her seem self centered instead. All that is just my opinion though.

No, Moana is not a Mary Sue. She has to learn how to do everything. The only instance I saw with her being too perfect was the Kakamura attack. She has hardly any idea how to sail until Maui shows her how.
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy 2 года назад
Nothing bad ever happens because of her actions, even when she fails to sail at first, the crashes result in little-to-no difference in the plot or her character. Plus she immediately learns how to do everything perfectly right after learning it, and the plot always promotes her as being better than everyone else, even Maui, the second most important character is made out to be the butt of every joke he is in and looks stupid compared to Moana. But I should stop now before I end up typing an essay.

The story also clearly portrays Moana in a stupid light, like when Maui is teaching her how to sail the first time. You can always neat up the style shorter, but hair takes time to grow. Cutting it lower but a little messier felt like a better choice, but you know life and death, can't blame them. it turned out brilliant considering the situation.

I agree with everything you said about all the Disney Princesses on this ranking list, except at where you put Moana. But I respect your opinion, though. I'm just going to explain why Moana isn't really the worst Disney Princess (It's actually Merida). - Even though Moana wanted to be in the ocean, her island was running out of fish, so her only suggestion was to fish beyond the reef so the islanders could get the fish they needed. - After Gramma Tala dies (still weeping), Moana takes her advice and only voyages to bring the heart back to Te Fiti just so she can save her people. This shows that she also cares about others and not just herself. - She isn't actually a Mary Sue who can do everything perfect. She didn't even know how to sail properly at first, and that's what caused her to crash at Maui's island. And even though she blames the ocean for this, I find this scene annoying, but hilarious at the same time. But you are right about one thing. She wasn't actually harmed. - But as I was saying, Moana isn't perfect. During the adventure, she had to earn Maui's trust so she could learn. She even agreed to help him get his fish hook, and she at least needed to give him some advice. And that's what got her to sail better. (Heck, she couldn't just stand there and do nothing when the Kakamora took Hei Hei and the heart. That's why she smashed most of them with her oar.) - But you are right about when you say that Moana can be pretty selfish at times. But that's usually when she's so determined to prove herself, and that's what causes her fight with Maui, so she doesn't actually get away with everything. But when she talks to her grandmother's ghost as all hope is lost, that's when she's inspired to finish the mission on her own. It's called CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT (at least Maui comes back to help her). While yes, I agree Moana is not a perfect Disney Princess, and she does have some flaws, she at least did a lot of good deeds for her people because she just wanted to help them. She even listened to Maui's instructions on how to sail, which is why she does better at voyaging later in the movie. And while she made a bit of selfish decisions throughout the movie, she actually learned from them, and remember. This is character development. Moana is definitely one of the bravest Disney Princesses, and also one of my favorites. Meanwhile, I think the real worst Disney Princess is Merida. But I definitely agree with everything else on your list. I absolutely love to see the Mirabel appreciation, and Mulan is the greatest Disney Princess for a lot of reasons.

I respect your opinions but very strongly disagree with the Elsa one. She is not being selfish or careless about other people. She really cares, especially her family, she never means to hurt anyone. The reason she runs from her responsibilities is she really does not know what to do while she is suffering from her uncontrollable powers. Since she was a child, since the moment her family saw the first sign of her powers being dangerous, she was told to isolate herself instead of being taught how to use her powers. She was pressured and that's why she grew up to be a very insecure introverted self-isolated person. Her imprisoning the counrty to an endless winter and running away was actually something she did unconsciously, and not realised how much damage she caused behind. Maybe she seems very selfish or irresponsible but let's not forget she actually symbolises a female character who has been forced to do things she does not want since she was born and who is accused of being powerful like "intelligence" in real life, or physically strong, talented in arts or some stuff, if we adapt that symbolism to real life. She never chose that so called responsibility by herself. It was given to her by people, like a homework to do. Yes, I also think she would be a very good choice for a ruler instead of Anna who cannot think logically as much as Elsa, but as I said, she is an individual and in the second film she found something she enjoys but also can be helpful to others. Elsa is one of the Disney princesses I would rank in the top 3. In addition, her isolating herself and not explaining her powers to people is also a symbolism for people being scared of powerful women. If she tried to show them her powers which she was not able to control at that time, people would freak out and immediately banish her from the society. That's why it seemed like the only option to her to run away.

Elsa = indoctrination. At 8yrs old she hurts her sister is then shown horrifying images from the trolls and then her parents literally shut her away and make her conceal her powers because they were dangerous. I agree she could have told Anna about then once the parents had died but she was probably too scared. She abandoned her kingdom simply because her powers were revealed and people were calling it sorcery and that she was monster. It’s perfectly understandable. The sequel however I agree with. It’s like they had completely different writers who didn’t know the characters at all. They ruined everything the first movie built on like the sisterly bond by deciding to separate them.

I disagree with your stance of "selfish ness". Many man characters are selfish and get praised for standing up for what they believe in and not backing down because they are strong but when a girl does ot she's annoying and selfish?.. 🙄 And how you said aroaua was better for not complaining about her arranged marriage than marrida. If I was a girl being forced into a marriage I'd complain non stop aswell. She is not interested in any of her suiters and the one she does find attractive is the wrong suiter. In those times women were not allowed to say no. Merida is a 16 year old girl being married off. And you know what happens on the night after they are married... she might not want that at all. It is not selfish of her at all.

I think you misunderstood my criticism, it has absolutely nothing to do with the characters being selfish. In fact, I could argue that Mulan acted selfishly in a sort of way when she took her father's place in the army, but that was for the right reasons and ultimately led to good. I'm not about to suddenly tell you that a character like Tony Stark is actually somehow improved by his selfishness just because he is a guy, his selfishness is a character flaw and I see it as such. In the case of characters on this list, they chose to act selfish but their movies either don't acknowledge their acts as being selfish or no consequences come from their selfishness, which is not good writing in my opinion.

I know this is your list and you’re entitled to your opinion respectfully I disagree on where you point Moana on the list. I know Moana isn’t a perfect character but she isn’t selfish. Moana goal in the film was to return the heart of Tafiti so that everything can return to normal again. When you were explaining why Merida was bad was because there wasn’t a scene where she did anything nice while Moana over here left her family to save them and their home, tried her best to train Maui for him to use is hook again and went back to fight Te Kā by herself even though she easily could’ve gotten killed. And calling Moana perfect and “Mary Sue” is kinda crazy. If Moana was perfect as you depicted her to be how come Maui had to teach her how to sail properly and how to navigate by using the stars correctly because idk if Moana was perfect and as smart as you make her out to be how come she has to be taught these things. The movie doesn’t also make Moana as a person who always right because if they did people including myself wouldn’t be agreeing with Maui when his hook got broken. I think what you’re forgetting about all of this is that Moana is only 16 years old and you think this sixteen year old is perfect? She isn’t and the movie has showed us that she has her flaws and she isn’t as perfect as you think she is. Moana isn’t selfish she just really determined because the ocean chose her to return the heart to Tafiti so that’s why she thinks that she the only one (along side Maui) can do this because not only that the ocean chose her but also because let be honest nobody else would everybody else on the island were to scared and didn’t want to disobey her father orders. And even though she thinks she the only one who can help her people and her island she still doubts herself but regardless of that she still pushes herself and becomes more capable and doesn’t drown in her fear of failure. Moana doesn’t save the day with her fighting skills or any skill at all in that matter, she saved the day because she was compassionate. Instead of seeing Te Kā as the enemy she insteads feels empathy which imo was beautiful along with her song “How far I’ll go” and “I am Moana”. How far I’ll go is a song that abt how Moana wants to prove herself by showing how far she can go and “I am Moana” is a song abt how Moana found herself and know who she is because in the beginning Moana didn’t know who she was but after talking to her grandmother and seeing her ancestors she realizes who she is, she isn’t anyone else but herself which is a strong sign of growth. If you were able to understand Maui how come you didn’t understand Moana? Because this whole movie is literally both of them interacting to save the day. Maui helped with Moana insecurities by teaching her how to sail and to read the stars so that she can guide herself to the right direction and Moana was able to help with Maui insecurities by telling him the demigods doesn’t make him Maui, only he can make self Maui despite not knowing who she really is yet which made their heart to heart conversation even better imo. And idk about you but Moana gives off Mulan vibes. So respectfully yet honest opinion you definitely downplay her quite harshly compare to how she really is in the movie. But what really sucks is that it feels like you don’t like people opinions on why either Moana isn’t selfish or why Moana is a good character. It kinda feels you don’t care abt people opinions unless their opinions matches yours. Not saying that you actually do but every time people try to defend Moana for not being selfish you kinda keep saying the same thing over and over and when somebody agrees with your opinion abt Moana being selfish or annoying you heart their comment and that isn’t very open but I’m not trying to be rude or disrespectful in anyway and I deeply apologize if I do.

Locked in her room overthinking her every thought and action while even her parents acted like her magic was some kind of sickness. Grew up without knowing a single thing about herself besides the fact that all she could do was surpress everything to protect everyone else, and suddently this immature and isolated girl is forced to rule over thounsends of people after her parents death. To me It's pretty obvious she has some intense anxiety issues, and running away after a disasterous moment really suits that trait. Honestly, It's actually better that Anna became queen cuz having someone with as much issues as Elsa rulling a country would be... yeah.
