Just to clarify, Alania isn't the first instant, sorcery, or otter. She copies the first instant, the first sorcery, and the first otter, so she can copy up to 3 spells per turn.
Yes good point! I'm pretty sure I edited that part out as I was condensing a ramble 😂 It's a good effect you can use up to 3 times per turn, but the gifting cards is rough.
@@voidprism_studios666 Ah, to be young. To believe in a magical Christmas land of endless value. To believe your 5-mana commander with no inherent protection that doubles your spells will still be on the field after a turn cycle. Those were the days… I’ve permanently shelved my Prismatic Bridge Superfriends deck for this very reason. It never actually plays out the way you want it to

The equipment Mabel makes lets you trigger Valiant on your other mice. So it provides an anthem and a way to help the deck do its thing with one creature, which is pretty neat!
I like that if they kill Mabel, you still have the equipment, and then you can target your mice to activate their abilities. Mice can go wide but also want to be targeted. It's great.
Kastral also works well if you can give your birds Double Strike. Vren just cares about opponent's creatures being exiled so blink or flicker effects will work too. Something like Mirror of Life Trapping would be great in the deck
I feel like Zinnia could be a cool go wide voltron deck with a bunch of 1/1 creatures. You don't necessarily have to build it as a etb or populate deck.
Zinnia is the best Bird commander, I think. Every time you make 1/1 white or blue bird tokens, you pump her. You're in red as well as UW, which means you can pair Soulcatcher's Aerie with Goblin Bombardment, and all the good azorius bird legends.
@@joejordan401I'm liking jeskia fliers in general. Several fling creatures have counterspells built in or burn. Token doublers and clones for voltron Spirits for versatility Some good dragons and sphinxes can be a ton of fun
Yep, I'm currently playing a Legendary Aristocrat list for Zinnia, using the legendary rule to sac the original copies (Jeskai usually specifies nontoken)
I think Ygra is the perfect Wave of Vitriol commander, as long as you plan ahead and build with mostly basic lands (very easy to do as you have green ramp spells). For opponents its crippling, taking out all creatures, all artifacts, all enchantments, and most lands - punishing all the greedy mana bases. You're left with a strong board state, AND a HUGE commander that will 1 shot opponents. I've never actually cast the spell before, but this beck might be worth building just to do it one time :) Also, its the perfect deck for Karn and Collector Ouphe as well.
Great video! BUT can't believe you called Zinnia a blink commander when it's one of the most flexible commanders here. It could be blink but there's way better ones like Arthur for that. Zinnia can be tokens, voltron, x creature tribal, creature combo. You can build around the top or the bottom effect, it's so flexible. Creating tokens that you normally can't do easily is crazy for brewing
Zinnia doesn't blink for shit. I actually tried to add blinking at first for a precon upgrade. Had to completely rewind everything and restart. Somewhat new to magic and zinnia is the first deck I won with. I had a teleportation circle up and it did absolutely nothing anyways. I def got lucky
I agree that glarb is generic but there are some neat things you can do with him: Evoke spells like shriekmaw or mulldrifter, Free spells such as Force of Will or Commandeer off the top. Then there's the obvious Bolas's Citadel and reanimation theme
-Fantastic- Mr. Foxglove looks interesting. Gonna brew a group-hug deck, thinking about giving everyone lots of cards, then I can draw lots of cards when I attack c: probably win with mill or labman+Laquatus's Creativity (also Forced Fruition gonna do a looooot of work lol)
I've been playing around with Dragonhawk in the 99 of my Omnath, Locus of Rage deck. I like the synergy with creating the 5/5 tokens and then slamming down the Dragonhawk for big damage to everyone (plus the impulse draw). And welcome back Tomer!
The lands thing for me with Lumra is gravy. It's another big beater bear for my Ayula deck. I may put a few things like Evolving wilds and Terramorphic expanse in there too now though.
Zinnia I really think can go in a token direction pretty easily. Nesting dovehawk, warren warleader, oltec matterweaver, akim the soaring wind so on. Using payoffs like purphoros, impact tremors, witty roastmaster to destroy the whole table. Plenty of value cards can get copied along the way. And well panharmonicon m/virtue gives another offspring and doubles your burn effects. Quite a cool strategy borrowing from multiple concepts and cool to see in Jeskai.
Glarb is good with Adventure cards, because I believe you can cast the cheaper adventure side from the top of your library if the non-adventure side is 4 or more MV. In relation to Mabel, the mouse theme is Valiant which triggers off of targetting with spells or abilities, so Cragflame and other equipment are good for triggering that on the mice in the set.
Zinnia is decidedly NOT blink. The best way to play Zinnia is to go all in on tokens (in my opinion). I threw Satya Aetherflux Genius, Anointed Procession, and a few others in and offspring can be absolutely insane. I played against a guy playing a Shrine deck, put out Angel of Ruins with offspring, and anointed procession out, and exiled 6 of his things.
The Muerra deck I've brewed up only plays 9 raccoons which offer some sort of value, such as mana dorks, card advantage or removal. It's not worth playing bad raccoons to turn them into bad mana dorks, but it makes your good ones even better.
Precons are a great way to start! Especially ones from the last year or two. You can upgrade it later as you learn more about the game, and then dissassemble for parts if necessary, once yu know what you want to play. For context, myself and my mrs got into magic with precons 4 years ago, and we srill have one of them going strong today. The other one got folded into a deck that I consider more enjoyable to play.
100% depends on you. I built Tasha for my first deck because I thought she looked awesome, but if you vibe with a precon's vibe then you can't really go too wrong
Do also check the prices of the cards like on mtggoldfish's website that has the precon's list, sometimes its cheaper to buy the singles for a commander precon deck than the precon itself.
Beza + ashnod's altar + eldrazi displacer = unlimited treasures if you're behind on lands and creatures. And you can play as many cards in your deck until you get stuck with the handful of lands
just getting this out there. Wick is insanely strong and is probably a very fringe cedh or at the very least high power commander. Also, gonna be playing Acorn Gang for casual Squirrel Gang!!!
I want to love Mabel so much, but the biggest miss is the fact that Cragflame, the legendary sword that she's the heir to, and is always seen wielding, doesn't enter the battlefield automatically equipped to Mabel. They could've made her cost 2RW and it would've been fine I think, since a 3 cmc 4/4 Vigilance, Trample, Haste would be a bit much.
If I get Dragonhawk, its going in my Animar deck. Pay 2 red to enter him. Then get multiple creatures to play for cheap with Animars "pay 1 less for each +1/+1" and "get a +1/+1 for each creature cast".
I might be wrong here... but Tomer uses "on a stick" a couple times in the video to refer to any effects that are tacked onto a creature (ETB or static). My impression was that "on a stick" was more referring to an effect that is traditionally a one time use (typically instant or sorcery) that is now repeatable (generally a tap ability). Originally coming from Isochron Scepter. The repeatable part being really important in distinguishing this from just "on a body".
For what it's worth I'm quite sure I've heard both uses in the past, like over ten years ago. It might just be one of those phrases that has two meanings at this point.
I want to put Mabel in the 99 of my Akiri equipment deck, and I don't have any other mice. The deck needs multiple creatures, the deck needs multiple equipment, and this is just strait forwardly both. A 3/3 with a Sword of Vengence-like equipment seems good enough for me.
@lunarlight3131 Mr foxglove is white blue green. Cruelclaw is black red. They are both outlaws, and likely, both theives. On damage, cruelclaw cheats something out from your library. On attack, Mr foxglove draws you cards, or cheats something out from your hand. Very similar functions, but very different mechanically, and interesting for 2 creatures that are exact opposite colors.
Cards like zoraline and get are actually better if you build around their non-tribal effects. Pair gev with one of a billion "deal 1 damage to each opponent on upkeep" effects, and then dump a bunch of bodies on the field. Also great in the 99 of rakdos lord of riots. Zoraline reminds me of a worse Alesha, although targeting cmc 3 or less instead of power 2 or less is a significant change, one that gives Zoraline different options. The finality counters are annoying, but you can actually get rid of those by blinking that permanent, so conjurers closet and teleportation circle are auto includes.
Vren is 100% for the command zone . Literally the only rat 99 he could go in is wick and it doesnt have near as many ways to fuel it there. Throw it in the command zone, add a ton of removal and counterspells and you have a super powerful deck.
Kinda late but I tried it on paper and I disagree unless you run the Thoracle line. You're losing half of what you should have drawn on end step if you lose gas. It gets worse if you have song of creation or landfall that draws since you're decking out faster.
I personally think that Arthur can be built to abuse people creatures with good ETBs because that way could bring in a creature that doesn't good ETV and then at the end of combat it goes back to your hands and then in your second main phase you could play that creature again to get a second ETB! That's how I would
You think Helga, a 1/3 that draws cards when you cast big creatures and taps for mana to cast big creatures, is better than glarb, a 2/4?deathtoucher that lets you play your lands and big spells (not just creatures) from the top (including gush, enabling doomsday), and turns all your topeck tutors into entombs with the surveil? IMO glarb is the best commander out of the set.
Missed the mark with Zinnia, what seemingly no one is paying attention to is you can utilize mechanics to cast without cost and still pay 2 for offspring, cast from exile or graveyard. You can run blink as protection, but that really isn't the point. Zinnia is low key busted, anything printed in Jeskai colors going forward gets to ignore singleton format and for 2 extra casting mana get an additional permanent, outside of legendaries without support.
I’d throw eluge in my flood counters island walk deck in simic too tbh it’s less of a spell slinger deck and more of a counters deck but I need spells for the counters so it will work out anyway
Zinnia, I beg to differ. Blink is possible but you could also run artifacts with affinity cost reduction to eliminate the offspring cost to zero and create TONS of babies. Just cause its BWR, doesn't mean it needs to be a blink deck.
Eh then it's a counters deck. Now conspiracy naming rats means that any creature that enters makes a snail that enters as a rat. To make a not snail. Adding in a few creatures that draw cards or a sac outlet to make wick leave so the game won't end in a draw is important. But yay rats.
Me sitting here watching the Arthur bit and being like "why focus on big spells when you can just get good etbs constantly, like token generating ETBs with impact tremors and such to just wear everyone down with constant recurring tokens that you can throw wheels in on to refill your deck like a machine gun. Also throwing Craig Boone and other "at least two or more creatures attacking cards" to really hit all sides of that card.
Zinnia can be a lot of things way beyond blink. This is a clone deck or if you go with adventures you can play demonstrate to get extra tokens. Im going to flying and clones only to voltron that board up. Jeskia flyiers with dragins, spirits or even some faries. I think spirits is probably the coolest because of quintorious, hofri, donaland the millicent spirit token legand. I also like idea of playing control creatures as a staxs deck or creatures that are anthems or ramp you like solumn and skittering surveyer. 6 mana 2 lands isnt great but its jeskia. And token doublers or clonescan really pump those creatures that get lands. You can do a lot and sure blink or aristocrats is a big easy catagory buuuut any token commander could be doing the same blink or sac theme.
Incase anyone sees this, Tomer says Wildsear isn't a good commander because even Gruul has better enchantment commanders. I just scrolled through the list of Gruul commanders and there are exactly 3 enchantment commanders for them. Wildsear, Bello, and Kaima, the Fractured Calm which only cares about placing auras on your opponent's creatures. Either Wildsear or Bello are the best Gruul enchantment commanders depending on how you want to play them. Bello is aggro and Wildsear is value, and both go in the same decks even with them built differently.
I realized that too I’m in the middle of building a deck around him and I do think he can be a great commander. I’m trying just straight voltron with him using enchantments that double and triple damage and among other things
Offspring is a linked trigger as an additional cost and etb. Panharmonicon doubles your tokens. It's squad but only once. Coping the spell also creates additional tokens because the copy remembers that the offspring cost was paid.
Flubs is everything to me. I’m building a Flubs deck, I just don’t know if I want to go for a stormy thing or a gates thing or a madness thing or some garbage combo of all of it. I just love Flubs!
I printed a flubs deck we played 2 games The first one I just died without doing much The second game I kinda had a big turn (probably missed a ton of triggers) and the voultron deck tried to kill me hitting me for 19 commander, next turn the right combination of Scute Swarm, anger in the grave, 3 fetch lands drops and delayed fireball from the exile I killed 2 players and the elf deck conceded in his turn... It was a blast but I probably would never build, I already have a fame of decks that takes to many gameplay actions and this one, you can literally have 20 minutes turns and don't win 😅
No hate, but one of the worst Zinnia take in this video You can build three decks on her, two of three very aggressive: You can build etb, like you said; you can build voltron, where by equipment and tokens Zinnia can deal 21 damage very quickly; you can built it my favourite way: copy creatures with alliance, or "when a creature enters the battlefield" and then populate your board with tokens, dealing tons and tons of damage in a single turn to all enemies, while still having an army of tokens (that you can buff in a lot of ways and even "regenerate" with luminous broodmoth
All the S tier cards should be frogs since they are the true new blood of the commander meta. Mana Crypt < Rampant Frogantua. The future is green and amphibious. I can see it.
With Dragonhawk, Fate's Tempest - does this card deal damage based on all of the cards that have been exiled this way over the whole game? Since they are still in exile technically. Or does it only count the ones exiled this turn?
@@jameelkurabi unfortunately this is not true. Due to the wording, it is specifically referring to the cards that were exiled by that ability this turn. It will see multiple instances of the trigger in one turn, but will only deal damage based on the cards that were left in exile that turn.
Wick+ conspiracy + impact tremors infinite snails that turn into rats that make more snails that make more rats that all ping your opponents for damage
Hey tomer, just wanted to say it was great to meet you in Amsterdam. Sadly, I didn't get chance to get a game in with you, but hopefully I will at the next one 🙂 now you're living in France you'll have to come over for a UK commandfest at some point 😎
They have very similar decklists. The strixhaven one in my opinion is better for alania specifically because it leans a little more on the high mana value cards, which makes alanias copy ability have more value. In adition to that veyran (the secondary commander in the precon) is actually really good in an alania deck. The main commander from that deck also triggers off of copying spells. The commander for the thunder junction precon would NOT be good in the 99 of alania because it gets value from casting a lot of cheap spells/multiple spells a turn.
Bria shouldn't be a go wide commander. She should be playing creatures that get bigger the more instants and sorceries in your graveyard or exile. Then they get bigger from prowess and become unblockable. Going tall with fewer creatures means only 2-4 spells in a turn can flatten the board.
Lol Tomer, you're so wrong about Zinnia. It is not a blink commander. If you actually read the reminder text, you'll see that Offspring requires the creature to be cast. Blinking does not work with Zinnia.
