Hey, happy holidays! This is the worst thumbnail I've ever had. I love it. Here's to 2021. If you enjoyed and you'd like to support the channel, I won't fight you on it! ko-fi.com/regu... Twitter: / thesubparpatsby
6:30 Funny thing about the barrels, it seems there _is_ story about Heracles and barrels in Greek mythology. I'll let Matt from Super Gaming Bros explain: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DPWXE-NxJLk.html 3:26:22
back in the day, playing kh1 and not knowing a thing about ff, my brother convinced me cloud was Riku who had gone super sayian and kept it secret from sora.
Thank god that one guy in SE thought "maybe we should put an skip scene option in kh 1?" I hope that guy got a raise... Anyway I may sound corny but i dont care...one of the best thing that came out of this year was discovering this channel. Thanks Pat.
The Tarzan cut scene is engraved into my soul and does rivavl the riku cutscene for sticking with me all these years without me knowing. My nostalgia is through the roof right now so thank you for this great video
Thinking back the Phantom was probably the only boss fight that legitimately scared me. I used to think the fight was timed and that if I ran out of time it was an instant kill. It took me using stop close to the clock by accident to figure out what I was suppose to do.
I just finished playing the KH1 Critical Mix mod, so seeing all these bosses ranked gave a lot of good insight on the memories I had of this game when I was younger. You really do deserve more subscribers, it's a really well made video!
Using boss might be derived from the way that In Japan they use "boss" to describe the leader of a Yakuza. and it kind of goes hand in hand with video games having a format of "fighting through henchmen to reach the final 'boss'".
As an upper limb amputee that plats all these games I'll be impressed when you beat mysterious figure in BBS one handed with all three characters like I did.
@@RegularPat I've got platinum for KH1, Chain of Memories, KH2, and BBS & I'm working on Dream Drop Distance now. My goal is to plat all the playable ones on PS4.
Doing that with two hands is lunacy, you're wild, nice work Now if only Terra would learn to just SHOOT HIM IN THE FUCKING FACE with a real gun instead of a slow blockable shotlock
@@syrelian I found shotlocks pretty useless with Terra's fight, honestly. Thunder surge & cure for the command deck plus lots of timed dodging, blocking, and begging the RNG gods not to hit me with both the command steal & orb attacks simultaneously. Could not seem to get past that combo alive at all.
"I almost think you're stronger than Ansem. ...Just please keep your shirt on." I don't know, I really liked Shirtless Ansem. I guess that was the best they could do without bumping up the rating to E10+, but I kind of want that sort of design to return.
Me and my friend never figured out the "trick" on how to damage Sephiroth. Sometimes he would just randomly start taking damage. I know we never beat him as children but I'm not sure if we ever figured out that he just had more health than the game could display or if I just added 1 and 1 together when I was older.
Lol yeah i never understood why they used those invisible health bars for the bosses with a lot of HP. Like, why not just add another color bar? You'd think it'd be something they'd update in the ReMixes, too.
@@RegularPat I still to this day hope it’s intentional, because if anything it adds to the fight. You genuinely get scared not seeing his health go down.
My trigger words from the Ansem/Riku fight are still embedded into my subconscious thanks to non-skipable cutscenes in kh1. "Fergit it. Ders no whey ur takin Kairi's hart!!"
Hey thanks! Yeah to be honest it was originally going to be a top 10 because I had the most to say about those ones, but I did have thoughts on other ones, especially the ones I don't enjoy as much toward the bottom. But that did leave some in the middle where I didn't have too much to say, analysis-wise.
My favorite of your videos. I’ve watched this at least once a week since discovering your channel, haha. The rankings, the commentary, the editing, the sound effects, all perfect 👌 😌👌
My first thought seeing Ansem and that guardian heartless when I was a little kid was "Oh, he's like Unknown from Tekken Tag Tournament", but now, years later, I'm thinking "It's an enemy stand user!"
This video was so much fun to watch, great script, great jokes, great info, fantastic editing, and not a second was wasted. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw you only have 6k subscribers when this video feels like it was made by someone who's been doing this for years and years. I feel like I just found a diamond in the rough and that I'm on the ground floor of a channel that's going to be super popular in time! Stick to it man, subbed and looking forward to more!
28:40 Tv tropes claims in earlier drafts of the story Chernabog WAS going to be the big bad before they made Ansem. However given the lack of citation take this with a grain of salt
AH yeah I do remember reading about that there. I actually was trying to find more about that when making the vid but I wasn't able to find all too much about it.
Aw man I really wanted Kurt Zisa to be number one. Just because he’s definitely the most mobile BIG boss. Like he moves as if he was a big Soldier. Seeing him flying through the air was glorious.
Ironically you just taught me 2 things about Giant Ursula, she can be stopped with the Stop spell, and instead of needing to use Mermaid Kick to get away from them when they start trying to suck you in for a bite, you can just swim up and lob fire at them
I always felt completely out of the loop with the Dark Riku fight discourse and jokes on my first playthrough. Despite Clayton and Maleficent Dragon being my two biggest walls in the game, I got super lucky and thrashed Riku on my first go.
My first time playing KH1 was a few years ago w the PS2 original. I’m replaying it now on Final Mix proud and having a lot of fun. The game is pretty challenging and I appreciate that it’s not pulling punches.
idk about giant ursula, everytime I fought her I got behind her and mashed X she pushes me away and I just fast swim back behind her. the fact that you unlock the fast swimming really trivializes this boss
Trickmaster normally: a joke Trickmaster in Re: Chain of Memories Reverse/Rebirth: *PAIN* Also seeing that much magic with that little health at 6:30 made me do a double take
Fun fact. There is an area in the thrones when fighting malificent dragon that you can hide in. You are untouchable by any attack and can just sit back and let goofy and beast do the work for you and come in for the killing shot.
Yeah trouble may vary with him lol. I know as a kid it was a struggle, but I also didn't have the patience for grinding and didn't often fight mob Heartless if I didn't have to.
It’s amazing how darkside 1, Leon in traverse town, cloud in the preliminary rounds and sabor with sora by himself in deep jungle didn’t have to be defeated to move the story. But it’s definitely more rewarding if you do however.
i been playing KH1 since it first came out, and i _never fucking knew_ that you could distract the card guards by giving the queen of hearts a thwack on the head.
That moment when you watch the KH2 boss rankings and that makes you wanna come back and watch the KH1 boss rankings. Also, I know this is on the wrong video, but you should totally do a Data Organization ranking.
I have to agree 100% that Chernabog should've been the big baddie of all Disney villains. I mean sure he's my favorite Disney villain, but he's like the mastermind of all villains. He deserves a return (I can't believe he was screwed up in Dream Drop Distance)
If you want the game harder, I suggest you try the KH1 original, there is no triangle attacks and you need to swallow long cutscenes as they don't let you skip them
14:39 i honestly felt the same, because i first played kingdom hearts 2 when i was 9 and I didn’t even know the existence of Final Fantasy games and their characters, so i thought that characters like Cloud, Leon, Aerith or Sephiroth were original characters from Kingdom hearts and not from Final Fantasy
I'm sure there's a million comments about this buried where I can't see, but the term "Boss" came to videogames through international 80s nerd culture's love of kung fu movies, wherein the hero's climatic battle would often be against the leader of a criminal organization or "Crime Boss," as depicted in the immortal touch stone of popular music, "Kung Fu Fighting"
What’s funny is during my recent run of proud mode certain bosses proved to be oddly difficult just because of homing attacks, namely Trickmaster and Opposite armor. I also had an annoyingly difficult time fighting the pot centipede because for whater reason it kept spinning around while I was swinging at it causing the tail to hit me for an unblockable attack. Herc was bothersome but took only one extra try after a couple of mistakes on my part. The rest pretty much ended up being wet noodles for me. Except for the secret bosses of course
Yes a lot of the footage for this vid pulls from my Level 1 guide, but I do try to judge the bosses based on the experience imparted by a normal playthrough
I've been replaying kh1 (shocker), and upon getting to the Big Ursula Boss fight, I personally consider it to be overrated here. The Mermaid kick being on square and circle caused me to accidentally speed off in the wrong direction more times than i can count. Plus, the constant (and I do mean CONSTANT) barrage of individual lighting strikes makes it damn near impossible for you or even the party members to get any good hits in. You asked later if there's any individual attacks that were as detrimental to the party members as Hades' spinning flame wall. Well, I present you with Ursula's thunderstrikes. They never stop, and for the party members, they never miss.
I've heard talk, and see on a few wikis, that Chernabog was originally suppose to be THE BIG BAD of Kingdom Hearts. No Ansem, just Slavic Satan himself. You know before Numora took a page from Toryiama's book and just started making shit up with almost no thought behind any of it.
I have a complex so I force myself to play on proud mode and was really surprised by this list. I'd love a video where you look at the difference in enjoyability/difficulty/etc between beginner, normal, and proud mode
@@tomasfong40 I always thought that too, but the last time I played KHII again and beat Sephiroth, Sora said something pretty interesting. After Cloud and Sephiroth disappeared together, Sora said something along the lines of “They probably went back to their own world”. Was that just a mistake made by the writers, or do Cloud and Sephiroth both come from somewhere else in the KH universe?
I’m ssorry but why the fuck is he flying there 30:17 that genuinely lookss like a glitch. Am I going to have to contend with glitched flying hook onsse I get ussed to the controlss feeling like sora has gum on hiss sshoess and can’t dodge sshit
@@eldritchcupcakes3195that’s right after he got knocked into the ocean, when that happens slapsticks (as in the type of comedy not the ability) back onto the ship
That bit about Sora needing to have a discussion with Riku about how he *_literally_* tried to murder him in Hollow Bastion before the possession even happened was both some of the most hilarious commentary on KH I've ever heard and very disconcerting because no one seems to talk about that little tidbit.
@@RegularPat I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Riku's whole character arc post-KH1 about him redeeming himself for falling into darkness's influence? I mean, yeah, he was possessed by Ansem SOD, but he still blamed himself for what he did under the influence.
The funny thing about Chernabg is that back when I was a kid I hadn't saw Fantasia and so I didn't knew he was a disney character, I just thought he was a super strong badass Heartless, and I mean he looks like one, it's years later I've saw the Fantasia movies, saw his part of the movies and realise "HEY That's the giant heartless from KH", only to see the release date of the movie ^^
Based on colors I always thought the Heartless were some other branch of Chernabog and the demons. Like as a heartless you START as the tiny black ones, then evolve depending on the actions you take.
