I would like to point out that Copy has one single additional use in Super Star (Ultra): if you find its essence first in Milky Way Wishes, you can basically throw that sub-game's entire gimmick out the window and play it like a normal mode.
Copy does have a couple more uses In the original Superstar, the ability also does very high damage against bosses, and in both versions of the game it is also possible to get the Crash ability from Scarfy.
Two more upsides that I can think of: 1. You instantly get the ability with Copy and don’t have to swallow the enemy first. 2. T.A.C. is the most broken player 2 Kirby ever had
needle being down in d-tier is hilarious because now that forgotten lands out its actually a really good ability , needle in other games yeah kinda bad but they suddenly decided top make it the best ability in forgotten land
@@wiiuandmii7619 yeah and none of them [spoilers for post endgame ability upgrades] can drain lifeforce like morpho sword. Or deal absolutely stupid amounts of damage like mask hammer.
Can’t wait for the day when they combine ESP and yo-yo into one ability. Come on Nintendo, you know you want to do it. Just give us earthbound Kirby already.
I love Squeak Squad’s abilities (except Metal, cool concept but annoying to play as) to death, they’re all so creative and I really hope they get brought back in a modern Kirby game. Magic most of all, but I also really want to see new takes on Bubble, Animal, and Ghost. Ghost seems like it could make a really fun player 2 mode in a future Kirby game in particular.
Yeah, especially if they make it so that it can go down ladders. I can't tell you how many times I've had to stop using Ghost because of a freaking ladder.
I 100% agree with your number one pick! I wont spoil it in case ppl still haven't watched your video, but in Star Allies, it's such a treat to use! EDIT: Someone replied with a spoiler in the comments, careful!
Spark was absolutely _broken_ in Return to Dreamland because you could charge it just by shaking the Wiimote instead of mashing the D-Pad, granting you instant full charge projectiles for you to unleash whenever you want.
i'd argue plasma is just as good in the wii and wii u ports of super star where you can charge it with the analog stick with lower mashing thresholds than ultra
Sleep is weird in Forgotten Land. You can evolve it, and as well as recovering health it gives you a random temporary buff. Once evolved it’s actually sort of beneficial to momentarily drop your current copy ability and use sleep as quick as possible to get a buff before your old copy disappears.
Fire and Burning are both completely different attacks that both do a fire related attack while Circus and Magic are both 2 different unrelated things. And also fire and burning only really do a single attack while Circus and Magic are full fleshed movesets.
Mirror is my favorite copy ability because of planet Robobot. I literally used it for every boss in the game and the mirror counter is so good. So yeah it was definitely my go to in the game.
People be sleeping on Clown Kirby, I find it to be one the best abilities in Triple Deluxe, it's good combat wise, it's fun as hell and the hat is perfection
@@eeped the big damage dealer is the trampoline which is invincible until you land and you can do it twice. Also the ball attack offers a ton of invul too. Surprised he didn’t mention it. Yes they’re just circus tricks, but when you’re invincible when doing them it changes a lot.
@@eeped yeah, and most TD bosses are either flying, have airborne hitboxes(coily rattler), or are big enough that it doesn’t matter(flowery woods). The only 2 bosses in the game that might be a problem are the dedede or dark meta knight bosses, but those are a problem for the majority of abilites anyway.
The best Kirby copy ability is Falco's Laser in Melee. Firing lasers with knockback almost faster than Fox is insane, and if Kirby ALWAYS had this ability, he'd arguably be mid-tier, not second- or - first-worst.
12:20 I used the leaf ability in my walk through of the harder mode of return to dreamland because of its power to block all incoming dmg. I think it's a great ability but as you said, it's your subjective tier list
Squeak Squad was the first Kirby game where you could take UFO out of the stage and it was also not that hidden as it occasionally appeared in the game
I would like to focus on Sleep (and it's upgrade, Deep Sleep) for a moment. For Kirby and the Forgotten Land, not only do copy abilities exist a while after being dropped (making it viable to juggle), but Sleep got buffed since you heal while asleep (and there's a time frame you have before you fall asleep with the non-upgraded version), AND the upgraded version can heal more health quicker and a boost if you can sleep full-duration (Attack up, Speed up, Extra health bar). Combine those two facts together, and Sleep as a whole moves up from F-Tier to easy S-tier.
ESP is actually one of my favorites. It IS annoying being vulnerable while remotely attacking, but there is just something satisfying about hovering in the air while navigating a pulsating ball of death around the area and through obstacles. Also, the delayed teleport dodge is broken and does a lot of damage.
Squeak Squad is my favorite Kirby game and I was so upset when drill Kirby got announced for forgotten land as it’s just animal but way more basic and generic…..seriously if animal doesn’t make it in it’ll be such a missed opportunity as the main antagonists are literally called the beast pack!
Didn't stop Amazing Mirror from not having Mirror Kirby But yeah, shame that Animal, like Paint and Cupid, probably won't be brought back and upgraded and instead be replaced by something similar but not quite the same...
They should remake Kirby’s moveset in smash to utilize more of these abilities. It’d be so refreshing to have a beam shot or a leaf attack or something like that.
10:55 funnily enough, despite being so weird, circus is one of the best abilities for arena/ true arena speedruns. The Trampoline move is stupid powerful.
With so many different Copy Abilities, it's not surprising to see that everyone has their own set of favorites. With that in mind, it was certainly interesting to hear your thoughts on what Copy Abilities you consider to be the best/worst. Great work as always! Oh, and say what you will about Copy, but how else would you be able to get the Crash ability from Scarfies? Because yeah, that's a thing apparently!
There's actually a third place where you can get paint in Kirby Super Star Ultra it in the final boss fight in the True Arena and using it basically does nothing so it's actually a dirty trick to get you to lose your copy ability and grab something that's completely worthless in that fight however just like I love using sleep for an obstacle I kind of really love that use
Ranger: A It's great...it is a very strong long ranged ability that offers a quick basic attack, a really powerful charged one, that changes depending on which upgrade you're selecting, a close-ranged shotgun-like arial and even a really good counter attack... It's wide moveset makes it very useful in both normal and boss stages It has it's own puzzles and it's really fun to use Drill: C It's basically an improved version of animal...it's a good ability...but it is just...a bit too poor...I mean...it offers like 2 attacks... I like it's own gimmick and it's quite fun to use...but that's it...
Ranger is an easy S rank. The damage is good but it can attack bosses on the background. It's avoid and counter is the best in the game. If we were to include the evolved versions, Space Ranger is outright broken.
I think if "Leaf" was called "Plant" instead it'll probably be better because it will have more useful and creative moves. For example, Kirby could use a blowgun, swings from a vine, use some herbs to make a mixture that could poison enemies/heals allies, hit the opponent with a huge tree, etc.
Circus is actually my favorite copy ability. I was trying Planet Robobot's True Arena and couldn't pass Mecha Knight, then I tested out a random ability and got all the way to sectonia. This ability was Circus and it became my main ability for the true arena ever since.
For wing, I HAVE to say something : the dive bomb is just INSANE against bosses, dealing damage 4 times (if used in the boss, so use i-frames), and also against doubles bosses because of the little wing chocs on the ground allowing you to deal damage to both bosses at a time, or you can combo dive-dash-dive or just spam dives for boss destruction. What I mean with this message is that wing deserves a better placement IF you used it as much as I and others did, because it packs a BIG punch if used well.
Honestly, Light is a downright tragic ability. The other useless abilities, Metal and Mini, are at least somewhat memorable for how terrible they are, and don't really feel that neglected. Copy and Ghost are neat concepts that focus on showcasing a concept instead of being actually useful abilities. But Light is only usable in TWO rooms in the entire Kirby franchise and has nothing else going for it. It's such a nothing copy ability that you could effortlessly retcon it out of existence, and RtDL gave its only defining use to a held item and to actually good abilities like Fire and Spark. It's actually a memorable copy ability for me; I remember it for being forgettable. But no, the _true_ tragedy of Light is that it brings the idea of a light-based copy ability into the world. There's a lot of usable concepts for its revival, like giving it the fireworks or lightsaber from Kirby 64, secret-revealing qualities like the lightbulb abilities from the Dark Matter trilogy, or merge the one-note Laser into it. Heck, just giving Kirby a move where he opens his mouth and a beam of light comes out like a spotlight would be really cool! Or make his hat just a pair of sunglasses! But sadly Light is so forgotten that I don't see it getting any sort of revival unless another Copy Ability poll happens and it manages to win by some miracle against all the uncommon abilities like Ball that people actually like.
Beam attack is one of my personal favorites, when I play kirby with my cousing, we use beam attack a lot, not only do i like it of how it works, it also brought my favorite kirby meme
I would absolutely love it if you made a ranking list on the mix abilities from Kirby and the Crystal shards, that was the first Kirby game I ever played so seeing a list about that game would be very near and dear to my heart
i also like slight attempts to give sleep an actual moveset in squak squad it'll heal you when upgraded and return to dream land, the sleep bubble is an attack you can also mash/shake to wake up faster
Honestly I really hope we have more then 12 copy abilities in the game as 12 is so few especially for modern Kirby even for a brand new 3D game as they have battle Royale to draw 3D movesets from
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Forgotten Land committed a sin by not bringing animal back in the game which literally is about animals, and then introducing a new copy ability to do something they could've easily modified animal to do. SUCH a missed opportunity.
UFO is maximum. Back in the day, it was really special because it was very rare but you could be sure that it would surprise the crap out of you when you accidentally swallowed two copiable enemies.
Needle is actually very viable when running the ultimate cup. Actually, all ability is viable in that game and it was a blast doing the cups as different abilities. In fact, whenever I see sleep in the copy pedestal in between matches, I am honestly excited since free heals and buffs. And yes, it can also appear in ultimate cup z.
after Kirby and the forgotten land, and by extent, deep sleep, sleep Kirby would be at the top of any tier list. It's barely a contest. It's so broken it makes any boss trivial and any level take a minute max.
I have a few ideas to make *Light* and *Copy* useful again. *Copy* : Kirby scans certain things, that makes a copy of that thing. If he scans an enemy or certain boss or certain bosses' attacks, it'll make a copy of them that'll run the direction Kirby's facing willy-nilly barging and attacking enemies with no mercy until it runs out of health. You can even hold the attack button to keep the copy in stasis until you want to activate the copy. You can move all the copy ability is in stasis. If this sounds broken, you're welcome. *Light* : Even in the dark, Kirby makes a light that's _so_ bright, that enemies try to run away. Once you have them where you want them, you'll finish them off with a Flash Beam, Flash Bang, Flash Whirl or Flash Quake! Once again, broken. I'm a merciful guy, so I couldn't resist trying to revive these guys.
Broken is extraggating, it's okay but can became quite annoying to wait and get all 3 buffs as the buffs you get are random. And it's useless if you want to do no buffs runs on arena.
I would put sleep Kirby in c or b because of its improvements in forgotten land where you heal from it and gain a stat boost. I would also put needle in c cause of its forgotten land appearance. Also High Jump is C to F tier.
Poison was my favorite ability to use in the true arena in robobot. It was just very satisfying to lay traps on the enemies while they were offscreen. For them to land on those traps when they showed up.
Finally someone else in the “Plasma sucks” group, and Yo-yo is also my favorite ability I do heavily dislike Hi-Jump due to sucking with it and Adventure’s Kracko fight, and Tornado’s control frustrates me too much to try it.
How I would change Light : Costume Change : Kirby wears either a pair of sunglasses or a solar panel as a hat. Moves : 1. Solar Slash = Press B Kirby fires a crescent-shaped energy that get redirected when it hits a wall. 2. Solar Beam = Hold and release B Kirby releases a massive beam of light that pierces enemies and gets redirected if it hits a wall. 3. Light Speed = Dash + B Kirby dashes back and forth multiple times for a few seconds, dealing damage to enemies. 4. Eclipse = Dash+B in midair Kirby absorbs light from the area below him dealing damage to enemies and stunning them . 5. Light Burst = Down+B Kirby jumps up the air and releases burst of light, dealing damage to nearby enemies. This move has Sizzle properties 6. Supernova = Hold Down+B and release A stronger version of Light Burst that also stuns enemies. This move has Sizzle properties 7. Sunburn - Up+B Kirby shoots a bright ray of light upward that will deal damage to enemies below. This move has Sizzle properties 8. (I can't think of a name for this move) - B repeatedly near an enemy Kirby teleports and rapidly hit the enemy several times ending with tackling the opponent, sending them flying. 8. Light Speed Dodge - L/R when getting attack Kirby vanishes then reappears and fires a ray of light from his eyes to the enemy. 10. Lights Out - Hold Down+Y and release Kirby absorbs all light from all around him, turning the area pitch black. Then he quickly dashes through the area, dealing massive damage to every enemy and blocks on the screen. Kirby loses the Light ability after using this move.
The thing about the Paint ability is that I had been playing the series since Super Star came out and only discovered that Paint existed when Super Star Ultra released, and that was completely by accident!
fun fact: as of Forgotten Land, Cutter is the *only* ability to be in every game (not counting Dream Collection Challenge Stages) since Adventure, with Parasol not making the cut for the first time ever
Poison is my favorite Copy Ability. Lots of people say its just Water but worse; they're dead wrong. Poison has enough power to contend with Fighter and Hammer, but you have to play in a way no other Copy Ability has before. You have to think not only about where the boss is at the moment, but also where they're *going* to be so you can place your puddles and clouds in the best place to keep up your onslaught. Poison require far more thought and planning than other Copy Abilities and it is so much fun because of it. Poison is one of the strongest Copy Abilities in Robobot. I should know, I did a full playthrough and True Arena with Poison only and had a blast.
Poison is such an underrated ability! One of my hopes for the next Kirby game is: -Continue letting kirby upgrade his copy abilities -Bring back the water ability -Have poison be an upgrade for water :)
The main ESP bubble attack is actually very strong, it can make quick work of a lot of bosses especially considering you don’t need to get close to them. So I would put it around A tier
Exactly. I think it’s my favorite. I say I think, But that’s because I’m torn between ESP and bomb. Another thing worth mentioning is that ESP has infinite teleportation, which can make going through levels fun and helps out a lot in Bossfights.
Wheel deserved to be even higher than it already was for the sole fact that wheelie rider was a combination, especially when you consider the iconic end to meta knights revenge
i have a case for copy 1: in milky way wishes it basicly just defies the gimmick of finding abilities 2: in helper to hero (i dont know if T.A.C is in HTH so im basing this on a guess) you can just play as a de facto kirby similar to what you said about coop mode
I became a fan recently with kirby and the forgotten land. It was higher quality than many of the games I played that were released in the last few years. I haven't beaten many others so far, but the next one may be the one with all the mini kirbys as I played it recently, either that or planet robobot which I got recently.
