I really like Age of Extinction/Last Knight Prime's designs, but they were used wrongly. This design should be how he looked back on Cybertron, before he came to Earth and scanned his truck mode, not being how he looks after scanning a fancy new truck.

Man I whole heartedly agree! Especially regarding Energon Optimus. I hated the black accents that were added to his color scheme. They felt out of place. Also although I was feeling RID 2001's design the colors looked so muted and could us a little more blue. I actually loved TF4 Optimus since it addresses the complaints of not being able to follow the action because of all the parts. But its totally understandable why its not the most favorable live action look.

The problem of Knight Prime isn't the design to me, but rather it does not look like it will transform to a truck.

Happy to see Energon Prime at the bottom. In general that show had some of the most unflattering, uncool and goofy designs for characters. I also really disliked the art style change for the Transformers in Age of Extinction. They looked like “humans made of metal” instead of proper machines.

I'm still at awe for how Cyberverse was able to take the disgusting looking Evergreen designs and made them look super good. Both in 2D and 3D. But I think my top 5 fave Oppy Poppy design are Armada's Cybertronian mode, Armada's Earth mode, G1, Cyberverse and Cybertron Supermode.

I’m glad to see you putting the TF Prime design at perfect, as I agree, it was tall, and a good blend of modern takes with the classic G1. However that may be I’ve just been seeing hate for it due to being so far from the G1 design and not much love for it. Anyways great vid!

Love it or hate it the Live Action Transformers movies, Optimus Prime design from the first three movies looks great and awesome and the CGI made him looks even realistic. The Bayformers Optimus Prime design from the first three movies is among one of my favourite Optimus Prime designs of all time next to Prime Optimus Prime and Armada Optimus Prime.

The thing about RID Optimus is he isn’t actually Optimus. He’s beast wars era character named Fire convoy.

They didn't give Optimus a samurai look, they made him more like a knight. Drift got the samurai looks.

G1 cartoon/Marvel Comics (originsl design)/WFC trilogy (both Optimus Prime and Nemesis Prime, who is an Optimus Prime from an alternate timeline)/IDW2/ Dreamwave comics/Regenaration One (I may or may not have shoved as many Optimus Prime designs I could think of in here) Honorable mentions: Krio, Powermasters armor, Ghostbusters alt mode, RID 2015 (first design), Prime Wars Trilogy, Cyberverse, G2 original design (during the first few issues, Optimus's design was pretty good, but as the comic progressed, his design turned more 90s, and not in a good way) 1. Bumblebee: The Movie/IDW1 Optimus Prime (sure, IDW1 had lots of different artstyles, but Optimus Prime's design was surprisingly consistent and consistently badass) 0. Alligator Prime & Angry Birds Transformers (it's not even close, man).

Oof I actually really like RID 2001 Primes design >.< Cybertronian Armada Prime is a massive improvement over that design though I do agree, It's shame we never got to see what his altmode was like because that design would make for a great Transformers figure.

idw prime before the reboot is probably my favorite design

I’d argue that the ROTF Jet Prime was more so based on the later power linking primes since wing Saber power linking with prime seems more like ROTF jet prime however those jet primes would definitely stemmed from the concept of Jet Optimus of a high flying Autobot combining with prime I don’t get why cybertron prime is only decent based on what you said it sounded like it would make it at least to great

Where would you rank the IDW Optimus design(s)? Their first continuity had some of my favorite Optimus designs. Also, the people who complain about the flames on movie Optimus are the same people who love the tacky colors of the G2 toys. They literally want to complain about every single aspect of the films and make them out to be the worst things ever created. The first Bayformers film was awesome and nobody can tell me otherwise.

In my opinion Dreamwave Optimus is just incredible, it makes itself clear that it's Optimus but it also does it's own thing, he looks big and powerful. He just looks like he'll rip Star Scream in half.

Alligator prime should have been perfection.

In my opinion I’m kind of tired of seeing the classic G1 design throughout the years. When I first saw the war for Cybertron Siege design I would like “oh you just reuse the same design just some more Battle damage look” i’m not saying you should always re-do a design completely all the time but I want to see a very new and different design. I’m honestly one of the very few people that actually really like the aoe design because it’s something that’s new and different yeah it still feels like Optimus prime in my opinion. If you’re going to redo it design at least keep the iconic elements of what made it so popular. If that makes sense.

If there is another Transformers show in the future, I would love them to use this design for Optimus Prime because this design is awesome and it's mixture of G1 and The Live Action movies which is very cool. If they made a figure for this design, mainline or third party release, I'm definetly buying it.

PowerMaster Optimus is my all time favorite version of Prime. I'm guessing Comodin and I have such different tastes in that version from us being in different generations. I was 11 years old when I got PowerMaster Optimus and was excited I got it cuz I never got the original Optimus toy. PM Prime looked great for ITS TIME.

I dont see a reason to Love or hate the G1 designs tbh. When they're drawn properly and are in good lighting and are well animated they're borderline perfect. But at the same time the looks of the characters as well as the animation in the G1cartoon are as inconsistent as Academy Prime's chromosomes that there is few good angles or shots of characters that aren't effortlessly drawn or animated. There's so many animation errors that the only good images of them are on boxart or some shots in the 86' movie.

If I may offer some feedback if you do more of these (and I hope you do, cuz this was pretty cool) I’d recommend keeping the larger image of the transformers incarnation on screen longer to make it easier to follow along with your discussion on the design and to allow the view to take in the design more. When the image is zoomed out and with everything else on the tier list I’m not paying as much attention to it while you’re breaking it down. Just a suggestion. Also, glad you also like the Cybertron Optimus, loved it as a kid and I also had that toy.

Something I've thought about AOE/TLK Prime since I got the TLK voyager is that if they swapped the Blue for orange, changed the silvers to gold and gave it a different head, it'd work well as a Moviverse Rodimus, to me it's the way the pipes splay out behind him, it calls to mind Rodimus' wings without giving him a full on spoiler.

I think Animated Optimus pulls off what Energon Optimus couldn’t with the black accents. If you look their designs are similar but TFA just takes the cake

My favorite Optimus design goes to the TFP first 2 seasons. It has G1 elements while doing something new with the proportions. I don't know why but it gives me a knight ora like the AOE and TLK design, (which I really like) only it looks like a transformer 🚛

bro, Academy Optimus look like a whole ass Giga-Chad

If i had the chance to write my own transformer character i would make a version of skybite who speaks like papyrus (the words not the voice) and he would have his own spotlight episode where it reveals that he was an actor that got rejected. skybite would join the autobots and the episode ends with him getting killed by megatron in a ring of fire. He would also have a minicon partner that turned into a metal detector and a blaster called percepter.

With the first fire engine Optimus Prime that's actually supposed to be a different character just changed for u.s. release

What are your opinions on Star Convoy, RiD 2001 Optimus's super mode (since you included the Unicron Trilogy super modes but now that one), protoform Optimus from Transformers 2007, T-Rex Optimus from rescue bots? Would be interesting to see one of these for Megatron or Starscream. Bumblebee is kind of a weird one since he wasn't in anything for many years after G1. Also would a Megatron designs teir list also include Galvatrons? It's weird to think about since 'Megatron' in Energon is actually Galvatron in the original Japanese.

You guys remember the 3d series of Beast Wars, where Prime transformed from epic machine to just MONKE and after a few episodes he turned to MACHINE MONKE and shmashed things and blew up stuff? I loved that series.

I got more than 100+ Primes, not counting my Nemisis Primes toys, and I need to organize them soon...

I will always say that when it comes to the last knight design for prime, it is a good design with a whole knight aesthetic, but it is not a good prime design. However, this is my own opinion. There are those that like the design of a knight prime, which is fine.

I don’t like his Bumblebee design as much as others do. I feel like over the years having Prime’s look change significantly with each installment was a good thing. It kept things fresh but still made the character familiar. To me the design is straight nostalgia pandering. Like that was the movie as a whole but the film still had great designs. Prime was just literally his G1 look but live action. To me it’s just lazy and bad looking in some areas. I don’t hate it but it’s far from a favorite

im suprised at the lack of idw comics optimus, i think that that design of him is like a slightly edgier version of the original G1 design which overall looks perfect or at the very least great

My personal favorite will always be the one from the michael bay transformers trilogy. The one in age of extinction and the last knight is such a downgrade, not sure why they changed it.

the last knight version is just to round in shape to me. Like almost no angles at all. It makes me think more of an iron man armor in prime colors

The animated version with the wings is a call back to a Japanese G1 design of Powermaster Prime with extra armor. They made a Heroes of Cybertron figure of it that I own.
