My personal list as a mario kart fanatic: S - Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario kart DS A - Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart 7, mario kart 8 (wii u) B - Mario Kart 64, mario kart super circuit C - Super Mario Kart, mario kart arcade GP D - mario kart tour F - Mario kart home circuit
9. Super Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart 64 7. Mario Kart DS 6. Mario Kart: Double Dash 5. Mario Kart: Super Circuit 4. Mario Kart Tour 3. Mario Kart 7 2. Mario Kart 8 1. Mario Kart Wii
This was a fun watch, and your perspective is interesting, although it is odd you literally never mentioned online play, lol. I mean that's a big factor. But hey, here's mine: D tier - Tour, Home Circuit (lol, if I owned and played home circuit it would likely be higher, honestly I kinda want it. Tour could also be fun too probably.) C tier - Mario Kart GP (this deserves to be above the last 2 and below the rest, it is a good time!) B tier - Super MK, Super Circuit (these 2D boys belong here, no disrespect to the OG or Super Circuit, which had the most tracks of any MK until MK8 got DLC!!...Super Circuit I actually havent even played lol) A tier - MK64, Double Dash, MK7, MK8 (these all belong here because the ones upcoming are S; the reasons why are all self evident, lol) S tier (in order) - MK8D, MK Wii, MKDS MKDS was the first online Mario Kart and NINTENDO GAME!! This was a legendary moment. All free too, and you could have custom decals ppl could see! Plus Mission mode ofc was sick. But SNAKING was epic online! It was crazy that you had to snake to win online, but I got damn good at it, and it made it really epic!! But my thumb is glad snaking is now obsolete, lol. MK Wii may not have had snaking, but it was the first to have bikes, and is the only MK to let you gain speed with wheelies! This made up for no snaking, and the online was solid, and yea I still use tilt stearing to this day, but it was even better in a nice wii wheel (even BETTER in a full wheel peripheral i used on MK64 actually, lol) ! But yea, the music and courses and menus and graphics, it edges out MKDS for me, but barely...cuz snaking was awesome, and so was mission mode!!! MK8D takes the cake, even before the DLC was added probably. (MK8 sits in A because you had to pay extra for that DLC, plus that one wasnt portable, plus no battle mode, which for that who rly cares lol, but I digress.) But with the DLC, it may as well be in S+. However the next mario kart could bring back a double dash option, or even a snaking option, lol, or mission mode or a story mode, and boom, it could be the new top dawg, we shall see. Thanks for reading my comment!
Mario Kart on SNES did not use 3D graphics, unlike Star Fox and similar because of an additional technology, the Super FX chip that had to be saudered onto the ROM chip itself. Mario Kart made use of a perspective scaling mode technology called Mode 7 to simulate a 3D like shift of a 2D plane to simulate moving into the background or have it move around you in ways regular 2D couldn't easily without this mode 7. The idea of Mario Kart on NES would be insane... one pixel representing the karts moving around... might as well be Pong lol.
My tier list S - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Kart Wii A - Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart DS B - Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 7 C - Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Kart D - Mario Kart Super Circuit Also Mario Kart Wii has a ton of depth to it's system that other Mario Kart games don't have. Tons of small mechanics normal people would never notice which is why it has a huge competitive community
For whatever reason, I never played Double Dash on the Gamecube despite it's like one of my fave eras of a Nintendo console ever. Nor did I play Mario Kart 7.
Mario Kart 64 was one of the most played Mario Karts for me growing up back in the day (besides Mario Kart DS)... it is mainly nostalgia for me, I don't see it as being superior in any way mechanically/gameplay wise to other entries. And yeah, I could already tell you are not a fan of the N64 era, much at all... and I do get it to some degree despite I have nostalgia but also a love/hate relationship for it at the sametime.
Excellent video Josie. I just have too much nostalgia with Mario Kart 64. Nintendo 64 is my all time favorite system, so I am biased. Mario Kart 64 isnt the best, or my favorite, but that game just changed everything.
Facts. She likely didn't experience MKDS online as the 1st online Nintendo game, and so she didn't get to experience the wonder of snaking and the epic battles that would ensue!! Deluxe > DS > MK8, no question
This is a list I can agree with and I have played all besides the Wii one. And yes, Double Dash is so much more fun when played together with a friend using the two in the same kart-mechanic. My biggest wish for the next MK is a more fleshed out single player experience. Nintendo could actually learn a thing or two from the games Beach Buggy Racing 1 or 2 and similar MK clones.
This is probably just me but I think mk8 wii u deserves to place just above the first 3 games The first 3 games are hard for me to get back to and I can say the same for the Wii U original too. I like the visuals, race tracks and the driving. But as much as I liked those, there was some problems such as the lack of content for battle mode and the broken item system in racing. I remember when I used to play this game, I'd pull shells or horns in last place which is not normal at all. I'm so glad mk8dx fixed that and I love this game As for tour, yeah its a cashgrab and I'm just glad their tracks are in mk8dx
Your list is perfect except that DoubleDash needs to be on top. It's easily the greatest in-person, multi-player Mario Kart which is, at heart, how Mario Kart is intended to be played.
