@Fries I provided a link to a story about it, but YT doesn't like those external links and deleted my post. Here's the relevant passage: Bird also was involved in an unhappy marriage at the time. Bird had a daughter after the marriage had broken up and in order to support himself and his daughter, he left school and worked for the city. He drove a garbage truck, a job he later told Sports Illustrated that he loved.
averaging 41 in the finals on 50% is insane, we always hear how insane MJ was but i personally had never seen a lot of these stats. no wonder everybody who got to watch him play worships him lmao
I caught the tail end of his prime and had to watch his earlier years on VHS as a kid in the 90s. I promise you he's just as great as people say he is. 😂
@@anthonysuches153 Thank you. I didn't have to say it. Defense been outlawed since the late 2000s. During the 2000s where defense was ahead of the offense, then 2004 Pistons winning the title, then the following year 2005s finals Pistons vs Spurs, then the Malace at The Palace they wanted to make the league soft and "Euro Ball/freeflowing/spacing" which basically be matador and props for cheap offensive tactics, circus 3s, flop for fouls and make the "casual fans" happy. Don't let that annoying defense get in the way of putting on great offensive displays. That's if the star players don't have other things to do, they might actually play if we're lucky. While being drilled in out heads that today's players are "bigger, faster, stronger and better" even in street clothes. The game is lost. "Storylines", "narratives" "legacy" and the ever present fictional "best player in the world" and "G.O.A.T." which changes day to day are much more important than the actual games. Oh lets not talk about the trade deadline and free agency. Which really doesn't matter cause in 15 games a player could decide they can't win with the team they selected or they need to "load manage". The NBA it's fantastic.
Michael jordan arguably one of the luckiest players of all time….. played for an all time great team in his prime with one of the greatest coaches of all time…. if thats not insane luck idk what is….. Imagine if BRON had brady’s luck
@@dusk6159 Everyone only remembers the great decisions Krause made. They forget players like Rodney Mccrae or Brad Sellers. Or how he helped make Horace Grant leave and pissed off half the team over the years with his smug attitude.
@@NotaPizzaGRL the best NBA exec's miss from time to time but Krause (as much of a bastard as he was) hit more than he missed. Even MJ hated him, that's why he made such a point of destroying Dan Majerle everytime they played the Suns.
I was a kid when Jordan was at his peak. Maybe it's because I was a little kid, but having someone who was that good... I don't know. It's hard to describe watching the greatest person to ever play the game form his legacy. Closest thing I can think of to watching Jordan might be if Patrick Mahomes best years are still ahead of him.
To answer your question, 6. Everyone else combined in the entire 75 year history of the league has 4. He has more 40+ppg series than everyone else does combined, that includes Wilt (who surprisingly has 0).
@@retrosoul8770 he didn’t necessarily say he was above, he said MJ was far and away better than everyone else expect LeBron. Meaning Jordan is just better than Lebron, not far and away better like everyone else. Selective hearing kills people.
@@retrosoul8770 I take that back. I looked at this Barry guys videos and he does say LeBron is the goat 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️ His opinion is biased. Apparently he values longevity over peak performance. Weird… but whatever, anyone who seen both play like knows MJ is far superior than LBJ. He wasn’t alive to watch Jordan play in his prime.
One reason Jordan will always be the GOAT is because in addition to being unstoppable on offense, he was also a pickpocket on defense, lead the league in steals and even won a Defensive Player of the Year award.
@Tyrese Maxey0 Wilt because he was so unbelievably dominant, set so many records that will never be touched. Kareem because he was elite for a 20-year span. I loved Kobe and Tim, they were both great post-Jordan era players, but Kobe wasn't even close to being as good a defender as Jordan was, Tim wasn't the scorer Jordan was.
@Tyrese Maxey0 If you want to compare Tim's accolades to Jordan's, you'll find Jordan's accolades are much more impressive, no disrespect intended to Duncan. As for Kobe, you don't think Jordan pushed his teammates just as hard? Role players like Ron Harper, Tony Kukoc, Horace Grant, Bryan Williams, Luc Longley, and many more fed off of Jordan's intensity, benefited from his leadership. Kobe was great, but wasn't as good a defender as Jordan was. Timmy was great, but he wasn't the scorer Jordan was. Jordan was both a great defender and a great scorer.
Mjs numbers don’t even sound human when they are uttered. The only person with consistently crazier numbers in nba history is wilt. Wish I was alive when he played
@@almightyyeezydab5149 I was but I was 2 years old. Aka not old enough to remember. Why would it be weird if someone wasn’t alive in 2003, ppl who were born in 2004 are 17-18 rn.
Exactly, both offensively and defensively he stood out. I know we like to argue Lebron vs Jordan… both are great… but I don’t think Lebron can compare to Jordan for the 1 spot.
The 89 season. Doug Collins was the head coach and he put MJ into more of a point guard role That's why his assists went up as a result of that later on at the end of the season But that didn't sustain itself and Doug Collins soon lost his job as a result of that 89 Eastern conference finals And Phil Jackson came in for the 1990 season where he introduced the triangle offense to the Chicago bulls and used MJ in more of an off-ball type role which was by far the best way to use MJ as a player in a system
Man I wanted to see MJ be a pure combo guard playing PG. If he had a decent big man and heliocentric offence focused around him he directly could have averaged 28,5,11,2,1 50/30/80 %'s in the regular season.
@Michael Jordan fans are the worst NBA fans then more like that's a great example of why all greats have bad fanbases. LeBrons fanbase is filled with toxins. Bradys fanbase are filled with toxins (but not as much as LeBron). Same for Favre, Sosa, Bonds, and more
It's crazy to think a season which MJ averaged 37.1 points per game would be ranked 10th of all his seasons. But MJ was that good. More seasons than not, he was the best player in the world by many miles.
He doesn’t hate Jordan, he hates his fanboys and the media worshiping of him. Also it’s the other way around, Jordan fans are the ones shitting on lebron.
Barry, you plan to do videos like this one, with players like Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Shaq, etc.? I personally would love to see your ranking of all Lebron James seasons hehe. Gerat NBA video again, as always.
@@nasirthesenatejohnson6935 2018 playoffs in general. Sure competition on the east sucked but he literally had one of the best runs I’ve ever seen. It’s too bad KD ruined the cavs warriors rivalry
@@vulcanraven9701 I literally noted he didn’t have great competition in the east. But if you look at his 2018 team, he didn’t really have anyone either. So it balances out, it’s not like when he was in Miami.
@@massdagod broken back Robinson … young timmy . Young kobe , and unmotivated shaq.. Your saying these legends name like they were all in their prime like Utah . Next . They also proved kobe and tim 5 chips laters while Utah st community college is still at 0…
By Mj massive standards, Washington years were indeed sub par, however..... I enjoy seeing him beat young stars like Vince or Tmac or Pierce and frustrate them. They thought the league is theirs, and now is the time to torch Mj and end his era, make him play 1 on 1 and blow by the legend, dunk on him, drop 40, thus increasing their overall league status. But Mj relished those matchups and eagerly awaited them. He knew those players were soft. He took them defensively in second halfs of games and clamped up. Playing mind games, trash talking. Vince started chucking jump shots, Pierce got angry how Mj was hand checking and refs dared not blow the whistle...... and he shut them down. Then scored big jumpers on the other end. Hit some gamewinners. Mj was competitive as hell. And had his way with those young guns. Except Kobe. Kobe was a psycho and dropped 55 on mj lol
Vince outplayed MJ every time they played. MJ averaged 14 ppg against Vince and Vince averaged 23.5 ppg on better efficiency. T-mac actually played against MJ when he was on the bulls too but MJ outplayed him every game. On the Wizards though T-mac outplayed him every time they played. Including MJ's stats on the bulls MJ averaged 20.9 ppg against T-mac while T-Mac averaged 24.1 ppg.
@@IvanMartinez-fd8px nah man, fck the stats. Watch how mj clamped up and those guys got frustrated. Ofc a 25 yo will have better stats than 39yo, but mj killed them at the end of games, and mostly on defense
@@IvanMartinez-fd8px same thing I said I hate it when people use revisionist history to make someone look better than what they were this happens a lot especially to a celebrity or a historical icon.
You really didn't watch the Spurs. The Pop/Duncan Spurs Dynasty are even better than Larry Bird's Celtics, to put their dominance and longevity into perspective. About as good as Kareem/Magic's showtime Lakers. They were THAT level
Jordan's 1991 finals MVP averages of 31.2ppg 6.6rpg *11.4apg* 2.8spg hold *2nd* place for the highest assist average by a finals mvp. Only 1987 Magic eclipses that at 26.2ppg 8.0rpg *13.0apg* 2.3spg
@@BT405 i see what you're saying, but it's not what i was talking about. I'm talking about finals mvp averages. Magic has 3 total finals mvps: in 1980 he had 8.7apg, 1982 he had 8.0apg, in 1987 he had 13.0apg. The only finals mvp winners with double digit assists are Magic in 1987, and Jordan in 1991. Larry is the next closest with 24.0ppg 9.7rpg 9.5apg with his 1986 finals mvp
1988 for me. That is absolutely omnipotent basketball to grab 32PPG on 8AST 8REB 2.9STL for 81 games straight. That left no aspect of basketball un-sodomized.
Could you do a grade ranking video of NBA defensive player of the year each year? I'm curious based on your comment about MJ not deserving DPOY; who would you have had instead? Great stuff as always 👍🏻👍🏻
Tbh Hakeem should've won dpoy over MJ but then again Sydney Moncrief defiantly doesn't deserve 2 DPOY's and Jordans raw and advanced defensive stats outshines Sid who was nowhere close to the all round MJ was.
mj only played in washington because he wanted to play the game so bad. He was in his early 40s and gave himself the smallest contract. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone he just wanted to play
MJ wanted to play basketball but only played for the Wizards because he thought he was going to get be the GM. Since that didn't happen he's said he would've went to another team, probably Blazers or Lakers.
Yeah. I remember isaiah thomas saying the pistons had to guard mj as a team. They were okay with anyone on the bulls to beat them, as long as mj dont beat them. He also said mj averaged 37 against the bad boys and sometimes he would get hot 😂 yeah, chuck daly and the pistons really did do a good job keeping mj in check though.
@@sambeezy007 huh mj was 21-23 playing the celtics still best player of the series but the bulls sucked ass. And the rockets?? They only won a title bc mj was "retired" (suspended)
@@username-mf4mu Ehh. That's the issue with what ifs. Jordan is good but in my opinion overrated. Imo if you get "goat" status, you gotta be able to win no matter the team you have and make your teammates play better around you. That said Bill, Wilt, and Lebron are the best 3 to me. But Dr. J and Vince Carter are my favorites.
the fact MJ was so good that during his Wizards years averaging 21.4 points 5.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game on 43 percent shooting was considered bad shows how damn good he was. Him and Lebron are so far ahead of everyone its mind blowing.
@@banananarwhals2016 Jordan was 38 years old and 3 years out of retirement. It was bad by his standards but still above average for the rest of the league. Don't forget that zone defense was revived the same year Jordan came back which made it harder to score inside the paint.
AYOOOO I was listening to this with no fuckjng context and I actually thought Utah state community college went to a championship Barry you’ve officially done your job
To show how great MJ was, the league literally became a billion dollar league in the span of eight years. Even only having three rings, he was considered to be many to be the greatest ever in 93'. Also, if you cut his career in half, and use all of his worst numbers, he'd still be a HOF with one or two rings.
