Man Jak and Daxter is probably one of my most favorite Naughty dog games ever. It really sucks they never give it attention anymore such a underrated gem of a series.
One of the best pure collect-a-thons in gaming, just a joy to run down every egg and orb and 100% every level. The follow-ups were fun, but Precursor Legacy is something special.
@@ZZ-ex8py Nah, Druckmann & Straley's version was better than what the Hennig version probably would have been. Loved how much more grounded it was. Uncharted 3 with all it's ridiculous plot holes didn't't give me much confidence in her writing abilities.
@@madsines1494 Seeing how Sam was originally going to seek revenge against Drake for "abandoning" him in prison, I actually think Henning's version is better on paper than seeing how everything played out in Druckmann's version. I figure that it's more powerful to start the rising action of a story with conflict (e.g. Sam returns in retaliation against Drake) rather than having it start based on a friendly request to go on a treasure hunt.
They were thinking about it in the early stages of TLOU. But they didn't think they could bring the franchise justice and make the game the fans wanted at the time. So they ended up starting a new IP which became TLOU.
The director said they don’t want to go backwards but want to move forward with innovations..... So safe to say Naughty Dog aren’t gonna make another J&D game. Here’s to hoping blue point or another studio gets put to the task
Scott, you need a thesauras. You could play bingo with your go-to sayings. "immaculate" "a love letter to..." "emotional gut punch" "tighter controls" "weighty"
To be fair I think that’s not uncommon and it reflects their personality and writing style, for Jules everything is absolutely brilliant or it can get in the bin, but that’s part of his charm and if he forced himself to change his vocabulary it may sound insincere.
I liked lost legacy a lot, but I think the reason its not as high as others is because of how crazy or influential or groundbreaking it was at the time. I would still put it higher tho
Me too! I personally think it’s miles better than 4! It might be shorter than 4, but LL didn’t have any downtime like for 4 did. It was one set piece after another; nonstop action!
@@narutosonic1213 For sure, I would also like to see more Sam and possibly Sully since he’s technically still in the game as well! Getting Charlie Cutter back might asking for too much but that would cool too!
Gotta disagree - I was bored playing that game even the first time around, and the second playthrough felt like torture. Severe pacing issues, reliance on linear story levels with 0 replayability (like the young Drake levels), an abundance of forced walking segments, recycled story, game's length, and maps that were too big, just made it boring. It takes ~4 hours to get into anything fun in that game, cause there are like 8 barely interactive story levels back-to-back-to-back, there's not enough enemy encounters for a 25hr long game (they're all accessible from the main menu - 28?), and they're not spaced out evenly - you'll be watching cut-scenes, walking, and climbing for 2-3 hours, you'll be bored, and you're itching to do something, then there's like 3 enemy encounters back-to-back, and they drag for so long, that you want them to end, then back to 2hours of doing nothing, and it just repeats over and over for ~22hrs. Then the final 3-4 hours of the game are a warzone with 10+ enemy encounters back-to-back, which gets taxing and tiring after a while, and it leaves the remaining ~22hrs with only ~15 shootouts. It wouldn't be an issue if climbing was engaging in that game, or the levels weren't so vast, empty, and painfully slow to explore, but the fun seems to come only from combat in UC4. I loved UC1 when it came out, UC2 was the best of the series, for sure, and one of the best games ever made - fun, full of amazing set pieces (easily 5-10x more than in UC4), and endlessly replayable. UC3 already started to feel like ND is prioritizing cinematic storytelling over gameplay - the first half of the game was rather boring, and scenes like walking through the desert for 5 minutes straight, or one-off story levels, made the replayability worse. Gameplay itself was worse, since they chose the 'O' button to do both melee and rolling (so you'd lunge straight into enemy fire, when you wanted to roll out of danger, all the time, if an enemy stood too close), and even the story in UC3 was weak, full of plot holes, and recycled storylines. The game was buggy at launch, too, since their 11.1.11 date was too good to miss, and I'd sometimes get thrown into a wall by an explosion, or got stuck in world geometry, when I was playing it. That said, I'd still play UC3 over UC4 any day, though. As a fan of the franchise, I finished UC4 twice for the platinum, and I'm never playing it again, even if they re-release it in some other form - the pacing issues, mentioned by every review, are just too much for me. Never touched Lost Legacy because of that, either. Btw, the Vita game wasn't made by ND, and it didn't have UC2's scope or set pieces, but it was alright - I'd rank it somewhere between UC2 and UC1.
@@piobu5357 i have to disagree a tiny bit. I thought the game was fun but i do kinda like 2nd Uncharted and lost legacy the most. It felt like they were hyping something super natural or something in the 4th one but we just got explosives mummies. Asave as a was so much better then the one in tue 4th one too. And uncharted 3 is a tad bit overrated. The ending seemed rushed. I did like the toxin idea tho
@@lomasharripersad1233 I still remember the first time I fired up U4. I was super excited, I got home from work, I started playing, and all I got was 4 hours of cut-scenes, talking, walking, and exposition, before I had to go to bed. I thought maybe the game just had a slow start, I got to some action finally on the second day, but it was quickly followed by another 2-3 hours of walking, talking, and climbing, and I started to notice that something was off about this game's pacing, the levels took too long to get through, and they were simply too big. No train section, no helicopters to fight on crumbling buildings, no vehicle chases, no tanks to destroy, it's like a completely different team made U2 and U4. In the same amount of time as most of the set pieces above happened in U2, along with some bombastic fast-paced action, and cool, but brief, character moments, we got to do such riveting stuff in U4 as swimming in the canal, talking, walking in the attic, more talking, running through a prison, walking over rooftops as young Drake, more talking, and some very unengaging climbing. Pacing issues were mentioned by every U4 review, that I've read, and yet TLOU2 repeats the same mistakes, which makes me think that they're more interested in making barely interactive movies now, than making actual games. And that's fine, if that's what they want to do, but I'm simply not excited for their games anymore, if they're not going to be fun to play. Also I just gotta ask - what is 'Asave as a'?
Top 10 Naughty Dog Games of all-time (so far): 1. Uncharted 2 2. The Last of Us 3. Uncharted 4 4. The Last of Us Part II 5. Uncharted 3 6. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped 7. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy 8. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back 9. Crash Team Racing 10. Uncharted 1
Cont. 11. TLOU: Left Behind 12. Jak II 13. Jak 3 14. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy 15. Uncharted: Golden Abyss 16. Crash Bandicoot 17. Jak X: Combat Racing
Jak X is my second favorite Jak game, honestly I really enjoyed the shooter racing game and passed that game so many times over and over, almost unlocking everything
So many classic games. It would be a huge achievement just to be the studio behind one of those IPs. The fact that Naughty Dog released Crash, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted and The Last of Us is incredible. It’s just a list of all time great PS games
@@TheREALHugo4 Naughty Dog games are well and truly classics. And TLOU 2 wasn't a failure. Winning so many GOTY awards and doing well in terms of sales - yeah definitely a failure.
@@TheREALHugo4 sit your silly ass down. Uncharted and TLOU series are both among the greatest in gaming history. Your clown ass insults don't change facts
10:13 Okay either Scott screwed up the name of Crash 2 or it had a different name in the UK because here in America its called “Cortex Strikes Back”. Wrath of Cortex came out after Crash 3 Warped, and from my memory it wasn’t received well. If someone can enlighten me on this, I’d appreciate it.
I said the exact same thing lol. It's my favourite game of all time. The only game I've consistently played year after year. So much replay ability and it's still as good today as it was in 1999. The best racing game ever made. Second to none.
No doubt in my mind while watching this that Last of Us 1 and 2 would top this list. Though, I've heard a lot of good things said about Crash Racing, but never got a chance to play it. Really tough to take on Mario on the racing game scene, was always curious about it.
This list has a chance to be very divisive. I love Crash-Jak Naughty Dog and current Naughty Dog (2010-now) equally but for very different reasons obviously.
CTR totally deserves to be that high if not higher. Consider this was their first Kart game and it makes it even more impressive. Also, Crash 2 is the best of the trilogy, thank you!
personally if i was do do a top 10 i would put GTA 5 around number 4 its great, yes, especially with its latest updates but sometimes i feel they really drag it out and online play can be a bit of a drab at times, like personally i think there should be a GTA6 by now or at least in the works (I haven't heard anything lately so if this is already happened i take it back) I just think gaming companies rely on online play far too much to drag out the space between sequels
Jak X Combat Racing is one of the most fun games I've ever played. It's more fun than any Crash game I've played. I'm surprised it was put so low because of sales and not for the merits of the game.
Naught dog hates cartoon games that's their reason why they ditched Jak cause of the success of uncharted and the last of us they wanted to do it but change the design to make it look real no one wanted the redesign so jak 4 was scraped you can still find the leak.
I would switch last of us 1 and 2 I liked 2 better than 1. It was the better story and game at least to me. I liked the writing as well and the incredibly dark side of humanity they showed us. I enjoyed playing as both Abby and Ellie and the writers gave me a good reason to believe in each characters motives and perspectives. At the moment because of last of us 2 I can’t find a game to play due to it being that ridiculously good. It overtook the first spot of my top 5 single player games of all time.
I did as well. Lots of ppl got salty for Joel and having to play as Abby. And I get that. But her perspective is more to build on Ellie's story as it is Abby. I think they think ND forced them to like her or something idk theyve gotten wonky with the hate tbh, I don't even know what the main concenses of the hate is anymore.
@@VannywiththeFanny there shouldn't be hate. Anyone would do what Abby did to the killer of her father. She has her justice and Ellie hers. I loved the writing and I think mostly everyone got what they deserved at the end. Because none of the characters deserved happy ending and none really got one either. It was a beautiful dark story and I loved every bit of it. I can't thank enough to the whole team behind both games for letting us experience such a masterpiece.
Same. The last of us part 2 is my favourite game of all time. A flawless masterpiece. Graphics are 5 years ahead of their time, gameplay is so realistic and outstanding, many great gameplay variety, amazing and heartbreaking story, awesome characters, scary enemies, incredible world building, you name it...
I don’t know wtf this guy is talking about saying Jak and daxter combat racing not making it into the mainstream. This game was literally in Sony’s greatest hits list.
@Greg B Jak 2 had a better story and harder gameplay. Also the city was bigger and more chaotic. But! Jak 3 was better in controls, had smoother difficulty spikes, more weapons, had a frikin desert (ooo, i loved the buggies), light powers that gave more balance to the character ( and completeness). And generally felt like a more diverse game!
Maybe this is just recency bias or maybe it’s just crazy hot take but Last of us 2 was a better game and story in my opinion. I will never understand the hate for this game just because they made a game where you didn’t see the outcome playing out the way you thought it would doesn’t make a game bad it’s call great story telling
Honorable mention: The Last of Us the television show. Seriously man that show was just pure excellence. Also, I'm positive ND doesnt like to talk about their Mortal Kombat rip off game lmao. Finally, Naughty Dog needs to stop playing around and make some more Jak and Daxter content. Insomniac is still showing their love for Ratchet and Clank, so why doesnt ND do the same for Jak! I would LOVE a Jak and Daxter remake.
I grew up playing Jak 2. It was one of my favorite games. I still have my Ps2. I never knew who made it the game. Then I watched The Last of Us series this year and fell in love. One of the best things I've ever experienced and I haven't even played the game and I really want to because it's so amazing. First time I ever heard of Naughty Dog and makes me like them a lot, even if they break my heart in pieces with TLOU. Excited for Part 2 to be adapted~~~ (and to cry)
Jak X and Jak 3 were the first 2 ps2 games I really ever played. Jak X was my favorite as a kid. I saw that they had the games on ps4 and immediately bought them (except for the first game) it was my first time playing Jak 2 and I loved replaying the other 2
Neil and Bruce were twin directors in TLOU1, not writers. Neil was the sole writer, although Bruce as co-director had a lot of say in fleshing out the world, story and characters. Also this was the first time the pair, and either one of them, had been at the head of a new IP.
Nice list, to me there is a clear top 4 but to each their own. 1. Jak 2 2. The Last of us 3. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy 4. Uncharted 2 --- Pretty Decent Gap --- 5. Uncharted 4 6. Uncharted 3 7. Crash 3 8. Jak 3 9. Uncharted 1 10. Crash Team Racing 11. Crash 2 12. Jak X 13. Crash 1 14. TLOU 2 (Never played Lost Legacy)
They once had an insanley good remake for all of them on ps3 or ps vita. Super fancy lookin. But i wish they could bring it back, with maybe a new game? It really can't end with a racing game.
@@pixelatedink955 I personally liked Jak X but that's because I used to love playing racing games with my mom. I'd even be content if they ported the games to pc.
@@pixelatedink955 true but if they really don't plan on making another I'd rather think of Jak X being the last game than that terrible Lost Frontier one
Uncharted 2 and the Last of Us 1 is essential to be at the top of a Naughty Dog game list - maybe Crash 3 as well. But to put the Last of Us 2 so high is a sin against the gaming community.
Well. It won like hundreds of awards I'm pretty sure, GOTY, and best narrative on several occasions, sold 4 mil in 3 days becoming fastest selling exclusive blah blah you get the picture. RU-vid vids with 100k views aren't the whole "gaming communy", sorry..
@@VannywiththeFanny With that same logic, biased award shows and initial sales aren't everything nor are they even a fraction of the gaming community. A large sum of physical sales were returned and millions of copies are still left collecting dust on shelves to this day. Additionally, sale numbers dropped of a cliff by 80% after the first week. Research before you comment. P.S: Your "RU-vid vids with 100k views" is factually wrong. There are videos severely critical of LoU2's errible narrative and pacing that have generated millions of views individually, with the overwhelming majority agreeing with the criticisms.
Great video. Didn't Naughty Dog get involved in the Homeworld series also ? "Homeworld won Best Strategy Game at the 1999 Game Critics Awards prior to release, and was nominated for Computer Game of the Year and Computer Strategy Game of the Year at the 2000 Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Interactive Achievement Awards."
I don’t care what people say, LOU2 is one of the best ND games and one of the best games ever. Fantastic gameplay Great graphics Solid group of characters And most importantly, and engaging, deep, thought provoking story. It improved on almost everything from the original. I would like to hear opinions.
Personally i f**kin loved it, but then again if i was one of the people who hated it i wouldnt be trashing others on the internet for thinking so which i cant seem to understand with a lot of people who disliked it.
Recently completed it and I agree I feel like I’m the only person who preferred it over the original people say it’s bad just because they didn’t enjoy certain story elements 👀🏌🏻♀️ while I actually appreciate that ND took big risks with the story that I think paid off by the end.
@@Jay-we5nv thank you! I heard a lot of people say they wanted Joel and Ellie traveling together again fighting zombies. My response? So you wanted the first game all over again but bland? ND took HUGE risks and chances with LOU2. Do all of them work? No. But most of them do. I would much rather have a sequel that takes chances and tries new things then one that plays it safe and gives the same thing over again.
@@jessedellross3245 Here’s the thing, people were expecting Joel to die and you play the game as Ellie. But instead we got roided up Abbey instead. If the game started as you playing Abbey and Joel and Ellie weren’t mentioned until that scene, I think it would’ve been received better. There’s plenty of ways that this games story could’ve been done better, but they went with the “try to sympathize with the villain who just killed your favorite character”. People hated abbey for that reason alone.
@@TDiddy1925 While I agree we didn’t need to play as much of the game with Abbie as we did. She wasn’t supposed to be a villian people are just so used to main characters always prevailing or dying honourably because they are the main character. ND took a risk & did something more realistic and a lot of people just couldn’t handle it. They wanted the happy good over evil ending that nearly every other game has.
Last Of Us is so overrated...other than the dynamic between Joel & Ellie the first game was meh at best and the less said about the sequel people seem to continue to deepthroat 24/7 the better. Hated the gameplay, cared about very little of the overall story ( started strong emotionally but got less interesting as it went on...openig & ending were the only really good parts of the story IMO ). Uncharted though...aside from the first game's difficulty being a bit high for me and the gimmicky six-axis controlled bs for grenades, I've loved every entry ( though I haven't played Golden Abyss...not a fan of the Vita's weird rear touchpad )
@@newageBoundhippie i agree man. I tried the lou and put it down for good after like 2 days. Just so bored. I actually like the first uncharted though. All three are some of my favorite games ever. I hate the six axis thing though, and yea the difficulty is ridiculous at times. But after you beat it, if you put on the fast cheat, with unlimited ammo its super fun. I can't beleive this channel rather put kid games at the top, and last of us and put uncharted so low.
@@newageBoundhippie how's it overrated? It just received the biggest load of hate any game could ever receive....and it didn't even deserve it...idk what you even talking about.
It’s divisive among the fans and youtubers with people loving it or hating it, and both views are valid, but gaming journalists all had a wank fest over it for some reason. It’s a good game, but no masterpiece.
Last of us 2 is a good looking game and fun in parts graphics outstanding but ye the story was not cool but as a game it's defo fun if you can just play it as a game and not a story and skip the cutseanes and there are many lol

Star Wars 1313 was essentially Star Wars Uncharted and it was pretty much canceled twice now. Visceral Game's Star Wars game seemed similar in spirit to 1313. Want an announcement that would make gamers nut their pants in unison, Sony? Forget about Silent Hill, Metal Gear, and Castlevania, go to Disney and make a deal between Naughty Dog and LucasFilm to revive Star Wars 1313.
In my opinion, Jak 1 > Jak 3 > Jak 2. I could never finish Jak 2 (lack of interest, not difficulty). Regardless of that, there's no way I'd put any Jak game over something like Uncharted 4 or even the Crash games. That's a weird list.
I loved Jak 2 and did finish it back in the day but it was just so damn hard that even though I bought the Jak trilogy on the PS3 I gave up on Jak 2 as I got sick of yelling at my screen lol
For me jak 2 was easy the only parts that made me retry was the forced mini games, the first mission from Odin, the shooting sequence that had you in a turrent moving slow to point b as you fend off against crimson guards and metal heads.
Last of Us 2 is great but it made people rate the original even higher. Case and point, Scott did a best PS4 games list years ago where Uncharted 4 was number one and Last of Us 1 was 2, 3 or 4 or something. Even remastered, it's so the best
After they made Crash bandicoot Naughty dog absolutely couldn't do wrong releasing only good games from Crash to The Last of us they are all good games even if some may argue some stories are bad but the games are still great nonetheless, this si why they along with developers like Insomniac and sucker punch are some of my favourites
It's clearly better tho. Better written, better graphics, better gameplay, better lore. It's just better. All due respect to J&D. I played it when I was a kid, it's great af.
How does this list place the first Uncharted at number 14 then place its sequel at number 3 even though they both have they EXACT SAME gameplay? Are people still blinded by hype and bias to this day? lol
I like the WhatCulture Gaming team, but you couldnt come up wtih a more original idea? TripleJump definitely does the EXACT same thing on their page, and have been for a while now. I know its not just their idea, but you guys even used a similar thumbnail. Be better.
Part 2 is definitely better in terms of gameplay but I felt it had a lot of pacing issues in the middle. The Seattle part went on for way too long imo.
Understandable but i disagree. Now, dont get me wrong, the two are absolutely perfection in their genres in the core gameplay, but i slighty prefer Crash 3 and CTR since that games also have much more content. Jak 1 only flaw is that is very short :(
Because some people get triggered by a naked woman. Honestly doesn’t bother me if it were a naked man or women as the logo. Scott needs to get off Twitter for a bit if he thinks that’s problematic.
