Football is life for countless sports fans in the United States. Fans in certain areas live and die by what their hometown NFL team accomplishes on the gridiron.
However, that’s not the case across the country. For every city that lives and breathes football, there’s a city that barely even seems to notice that they are hosting a billion-dollar professional football franchise.
Where does your city stand? Here are our rankings for every NFL city based on how big of a “football city” they really are.

Cleveland will ALWAYS be a football first city! Ohio loves their football. They are probably the 1st or 2nd most passionate state for football. Browns fans don't jump ship. We want a winner every year, no matter what happened the previous year.

It is kind of surprising that they used UGA to raise the falcons where yeah they have had a great Super Bowl contending core a few years ago but if it wasn’t for Alabama Ohio State would be the juggernaut of college football.

I wholeheartedly agree that Tampa is more of a hockey city than football and baseball combined. For one, Amalie Arena provides much needed relief from the humidity by being so refreshingly cool inside.

Denver has the NFL record for the longest sellout streak, plus their fans are very loyal to the team (even during the bad times). Sure, they only won 3 Super Bowls, but they've been one of the better powerhouses of the AFC throughout their history by appearing in 8 Super Bowls (tied for the 2nd most in NFL history).

Having grownup in WNY but lived on the front range for many years, my perspective is that Denver fans are pretty good. Better than I thought they'd be when I first moved here. And with the added energy Russell Wilson has brought, even moreso lately. But compared to B-lo, there's just no comparison. Buffalo has insanely devoted fans. They live, sleep, eat and breathe The Bills, 24-7, 365, come better or worse (and it's usually worse, but they stay just as devoted.) The Broncos have very good fans. And that's fine. But just can't compare to B-lo.

Respectfully, Green Bay is a firm #1. Firstly. 1919... Packers are almost 15 years older than the Steelers. I grew up in and around the area. We live for the team. Every family gathering and meaningful childhood memory featured the Packers in some way. There's no other professional sports team anywhere near us and the Brewers and Bucks have been terrible for most of the last 60 years. The Badgers are the only relevant college football program in the state and they're consistently inconsistent. More than that, the Green Bay area has zero attractions to compete with the Packers. A local mom & pop store here, a hokey rural amusement park there, some lazy river fishing everywhere..... Football is all we have in GB. My 85-year-old grandparents are still on the waitlist for season tickets. #1 football city in America. Respect it.

I'm a Rams fan. The Rams do have plenty of lifelong fans in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. Not just LA. They did pretty well in terms of attendance when they were at the Coliseum. Which is notoriously difficult it it/was to sell out. Since they won the Super Bowl plus the appeal of SoFi Stadium itself. This could also be said about the Chargers but since LA is a city of transplants, people will be loyal to their home team. But the Rams do have a fan base and it'll only grow.

Fellow rams fan here- I live in NorCal so this might be why, but I have yet to meet an actual real-life Rams fan. And just from watching our games on TV, it’s looks like our SoFi is always invaded by away teams. Especially against the 49ers. Also I feel like The Raiders/Rams have a split custody of LA with them being in Los Ángeles for a decent amount of time after the Rams moved to STL. I really do want a fanbase to grow around the Rams though, its starting to feel kinda lonely

A swing and a miss on Vegas. The placement is right, but not because of the tourist stuff. We avoid that stuff like the plague. The Golden Knignts were here during the 10/1 shootings, and they were everywhere, with the people giving blood, and at every charity event for the survivors. If we are talking about love of football in general at ALL levels, I don't know how there are that many teams ahead of Atlanta. Besides love for teams like the Falcons and Dawgs: 1. There are loyal fanbases even for smaller teams in the metro like Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Kennesaw State 2. As a transplant city, we have a ton of fans of other programs like Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Notre Dame, etc. 3. We are home to the College Football Hall of Fame 4. Atlanta is probably the most recruited major metro for college football programs 5. High school football is a way of life in some communities around Atlanta and Georgia in general. 6. We packed the house for lower level pro teams like the Arena Football League's Georgia Force. 7. Look into the insane number of places that sell wings and chicken fingers in Atlanta and tell me we don't always prepare for a game to watch.

The Packers are pretty much the only thing in northern Wisconsin. Every single home game, including preseason, is sold out. The season ticket waiting list is so long, if you bought tickets today, your grandkids might get them if you're lucky. The streets are all named after famous Packers players and coaches. On game day, every backyard in the entire city becomes a parking lot. Three times a year, they play a "Milwaukee package" game, and traffic backs up along two different freeways for about 100 miles. And the Packers are one of the oldest and most successful franchises in the NFL. There's no way Green Bay doesn't top this list.

LA is getting a bit better with the Rams. I live close to there so I’m starting to see more Rams fans here. Players like Stafford, Kupp, and Donald are also becoming icons here. The Chargers are a bit different though... The Raiders just need to be given a bit more time. The team just moved to Vegas a couple years ago and they’re getting better and better with each year. If they return to the playoffs this season, expect the support to increase even more. Buffalo should be at the top. Dallas has a lot of competition and is probably mostly so football heavy due to the team’s notoriety. Green Bay is also up there, but I personally think table jumping takes the cake.

Interesting List. I live in Michigan, and have always been a huge fan of football through the Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Lions. Football will always be my favorite sport to watch. Although, if there is any form of historical significance in this, you would say that Detroit is much more of a hockey city. Such it is when the Red Wings have 11 Stanley Cups. Not saying the success of the team should be factored into this list, football is still a huge deal here, no question. Historically though, hockey is what this state has been all about. Even if you just look at college sports, basketball isn’t far behind football.
