The guide should have a special tier for "letting zombies in your house and blocking you from opening chests"

James: *Puts nurse next to as dealer* "I just made his day." Also James: *crams 4 other npc's between them*

Chippy: "I'll put the arms dealer besides the nurse, I probably made his day" Also chippy: puts every other town npc in the middle

Chippy.. That's not a Guinea pig.. that's a bunny. Also I love the Guide as an NPC. Sure when you get higher up in the game you tend to not use him anymore but he does have an aspect for those first time players that makes him very irreplaceable. Fun Facts about the guide: - He's the first NPC you meet, and is meant to be your companion throughout the game. - If you don't rely on the wiki, he is your main source of crafting knowledge. Show him a material and he'll tell you how to craft. - He also teaches you what to do at many points in the game if you get stuck. - He's meant to canonically be your friend up until he's sacrificed to summon the Wall of Flesh. If you're playing with immersion, you were *meant* to develop a small bond with him and immediately be sad to sacrifice him. (Yes he will respawn, as everyone finds out after the fight. But it's never the same, and he respawns with a different name most of the time. He even has a line that references the sacrificed guide when he's respawned.) - While it's supposed to be sad to sacrifice him, it's also meant to be symbolic. You are leaving the beginner's mantle to fight a hard boss, and succeeding will put you in the game's Hard Mode. Alongside making wings in the game, going into Hard Mode is meant to be shedding your down feathers and taking flight in the game's true challenges. One could say Pre-Hard Mode is considered the "Prologue" of the game. - He's not just useful for beginners, but all of his services can be used by a veteran who took a break and decided to return. If you forget a recipe but know a couple of materials, just show him the material and he'll remind you. (I'm guilty of this. Even if I've been playing a while, there's enough recipes in the game to make you forget some of them over time) - He's one of the few NPCs who doesn't threaten to kill or harm you in some way.. Even during a Blood Moon.. (Screw the Nurse..)

I just had a great idea that you could do a biomes tierlist in Terraria. That would be great

Before watch I'll say guide shouldn't be lowest cause without wiki he is helpful and he is needed to go into hardmode. Now to see what he is actually ranked at.

We need a mod where everything is the same except it’s what Chippy remembers it as. Bunnies are now Guinea Pigs. The Mechanic is the Engineer. The Vile powder doesn’t exist. It’d be the true Terraria veteran experience.

Goblin tinkerer is literally the best. He looks great and he is the most useful npc. I think it should be in S tear

The skeleton merchant is criminally underrated. Such a godsend during the yoyo playthrough and his arrival+what he sells makes perfect sense. He sells cave stuff while in a cave and he reminds me of sans in a way lol.

15:19 the steampunker has a special place in my heart, when I was little I used to play in my old xbox 360 wich stopped updating in 1.2.2, I had a world there for at least 9 years and since the pylons weren't invented yet I had to make a whole teleporter system across the whole world

the clothier has died so many times in my world. its insane, its extremely rare for him to survive a blood moon or a pirate invasion. i even tried to protect him when he was named james.

One small bonus that the Princess has is that everyone likes her and she doesn't contribute to overcrowding, meaning you can put her anywhere and the people present will be happy about it, lowering their prices. Of course money won't matter that much by the time you get her due to the money gain options available to you in hardmode, but it's something.

Goblin Tinker is by far the best NPC. Reforged and the tinkers work shop are extremely good in almost any playthrough.

the guide is unprecedentedly useful in mods, especially expansive ones like calamity

I personally like to keep the guide as a workmate in my main base as he can speed up the R&D part of crafting some items. He's particularly useful for quickly budgeting how much ore I want to smelt.

I still use the guide if I ever need to quickly figure out what I need for a recipe, because it's usually faster than finding it on the wiki for me.

As someone who would say that the Snowman Cannon is their favorite weapon in the game, Cyborg would be in A tier for the reason that he is the arms dealer but you are even more dependant on him to get good rocket ammo (the only other source of rockets in the game is Plantera who gives you a couple rocket 1s if she happens to drop a grenade launcher)

I'd put Angler in C, he's a douche but their are good items he gives out. Saying that though I am still awaiting my Fish and Bunny trophies.

For me, I always find traveling merchant being my most liked for various reasons. No matter what he'll sell when he arrived, I always check him everytimes. Also I once got some insane luck, he sell the Companion cube twice a week! Although I only have around 20 plat at that times, could only buy 4 of them at first but didn't prepared for second coming :V

The zoologist can also show you when a blood moon is going to happen as well.

Angler Overhaul Idea; instead of getting random rewards, you get Fish Tickets, which you trade in for the rewards.

I got the infinite water bucket for my builds and after I get the cellphone I will never touch fishing again.

As somebody who loves to play with lots of mods, the guide is actually my favourite character... :D

Angler is awesome and I will defend him until the day I die. Yes, the fishing quests are extremely tedious. However, they are completely optional and don’t really help you out at all (unless you want to craft a cellphone, then R.I.P.). On top of that, he is more useful than a good number of other NPCs, and has loads more personality than most of the NPCs in the game. Most people who dislike him don’t even dislike the NPC himself, more so the act of fishing in Terraria, which he isn’t to blame for.

The thing about the Angler, is, to use him effectively you need to use him regularly -- but he's also easy to cheese by catching multiple quest fish. He supplies a mix of useful items (including a major segment of the Cell Phone) and decorative items, and makes fishing much *easier*. And his dialogue is so gleefully sadistic! If you hang out on the wiki, the Guide is basically useless except for holding down a pylon. I like the "nerd love" between the Goblin Tinkerer and Mechanic, and both of them provide key items. (I do like mechanics.) Tavern Keeper drives the Old One's Army stuff, including most of the sentries and some of the best armor (sets and pieces) in the game. Skeleton Merchant: Also sells good-for-stage yoyos, spelunker glowsticks and the magic lamp, and bone torches for bright light and lucky biome edges.

*14:41* I have been your big fan and subscriber for nearly three years. I like you 4 times as much now that I know this. ''Steampunk'' is one of my favorite aesthetic styles ever and Steampunker herself is also my favorite NPC In Terraria. She literally has everything that I love: British Accent, a lot of cool references that probably no one gets, Steampunk style and vibes, great set of items she sells (like Clentaminator, Static Hook, Jetpack, beautiful Steampunk vanity, and most importantly- Logic lamps, gates and teleporters), adoration of everything mechanical, she also loves desert and isn't a fan of jungle and so on...

Considering I do about 20 hours of fishing every playthrough... Angler is S tier for me. I LOVE fishing more than anything in the game. it's the most OP activity in the entire game. Same with the Tavernkeep, I love that minigame and I love collecting all the stuff.

Idk about you chippy, but the dye trader is essential to every play through I've done of terraria. I literally spend hours making my character look good. 😁

If you do this for weapons you should do one class per episode. I feel that this would be a bit better and not be a very long episode with everything just crammed together.

The angler has a reward system for quests. It isn’t rng there’s a specified list of thing you get for doing a certain number of quest. For instance on your 5th quest you get the fuzzy carrot

In terms of usefulness I'd have to give the crown to Goblin Tinkerer. Great list and video!

I like the princess the tax collector and the witch a lot (a simple wizard add-on/mod). There are so many great NPCs!

Watching James has made me wanna play Terraria again, Im busy playing Calamity Mod which is fun, I played it once before but i havent played it solo and I never finished it

even though the lore says the goblin tinkere was bound due to his pacifist views, i don't believe that, i think the goblins has gotten fed up with him extorting them for gold and platinum

Tier list on all the biomes? Ranking based on enemies that spawn there, survivability of the biome, and overall how the biome looks perhaps?

I'm a year late to this video, but I thought I'd say that even though I've been playing Terraria for 6 years, going on 7 this year (Dec. 31, started in 2015), I just noticed a couple days ago that the Clothier lines are references to Tom Hanks lines.

Clothier : S tier.

I can agree with most of them but for me personally, the Angler, Guide and Skeleton Merchant would be somewhere between mid-A to low-S. I love to fish for crates in my world and you can spend 2-3 hours minimum on fishing quest and skip the harder fishes by sleeping on the bed. Guide was my first help about the game (before the wiki) so yeah, he is at top tier. Skeleton Merchant has helped me SO MANY TIMES whenever I went underground. Inventory full ? Boom, he spawns and easy sell this, sell that. Out of arrows ? Boom, bone arrows. Need a spelunker potion ? Boom, he had better, spelunker glowsticks !

Are you sure you're putting the Zoologist in A becuase of the items she sells chippy? Also where is the stylist, she like dissapeared or smth now?

the fact that chippy plays terraria for so long and doen't include scraggler is mindblowing...

I don't think I've used the Guide's help function in years, but the crafting I use all the time for things that I know one ingredient of, as it's easier than going to the wiki.

Some spicy takes here and there, but the Party Girl being completely forgotten is what really gets me

I always thought that when finishing an angler quest you sould be able to chose one of lets say 3 random items, so that the randomness is still there, but you have some input

Not to mention for the Goblin Tinkerer, he also marks the point in which you can start combining Accessories and get Rocket Boots. You can start reforging your stuff and it's kind of a meme, but you can start working towards your new boots and all that I'd almost say the Goblin Tinkerer is *too* good. Combining stuff and Reforging is already great, but ROCKET Boots are your first taste of what it's like to have wings

for me, i use the truffle and a hyper-compact mushroom biome next to it (like a square with rows of mushroom grass) to build a pylon in the sky with the guide and a town pet (for when i kill the guide for the wall) wherever i want, aka by the dungeon, and shroomite digging claws are great

Nah man. The angler represents the entire fishing minigame that can replace a lot of grind in the main game with it's own version of grind.

Nobody better forget that the Dryad was also a guest character in Dungeon Defenders 2 during the 1.3.4 update

Finally someone who has the same opinion on goblin tinkerer as I do he’s always hated on for taking everyone gold/platinum but he sells one of the most useful crafting benches in the game and the ruler for the grand design

Gonna be honest, my favorite NPC is from the alchemynpclite mod. Not having to tediously farm herbs for pots is great.
