I’m very fond of the Beldum back-sprite. The texturing and shading expertly captures Beldum’s rigid structure. It is very well done! Give it another chance Jimothy, it isn’t D tier!!
I’m imagining myself explaining to my coworkers what youtube video I watched during my lunch break. They would say this is insane, and they would be correct.
@@BorkBigFrighten2some of the older mons' front sprites look a bit off-model in the Hoenn games. I remember the Pidgey line, and both Nidoran lines, looked a bit strange. But it makes sense, they don't really show up in Hoenn.
hard disagree with Beldum. Not only does it represent the design of the pokemon [and it got points deducted for the design itself] it also gets the full pokemon into frame and also has some nice shading and detail. Makes you recognize it as a some sort of inorganic material, perhaps metallic in nature. I think that's a very succesful sprite actually. fun list tho E: portraying Cloyster's face from the back is a logistical nightmare. I also don't feel like it's a fair deduction. But it also shines light on different criteria we apply to our assesments. I enjoy how skillfuly detailed Cloyster is given the very limited canvas it has to be displayed. Fantastic use of space and linework. I also appreciate how shiny and vibrant electrodes manages to be, glossy almost. I feel it displays much more skill to convey that than, for example, Espeon seems to represent. I love Espeon but the sprite is flat, two-tone and static. Pokemon itself gives you much more creative space to express it than the design of Electrode yet it's the latter whose sprite catches my attention
I am now very intrigued and hopeful for a future video where Jimothy shows the 386 pokemon to his Grandmother and she gives her honest opinions on them.
Altaria has plumes, Jimothy. Like birds have. I appreciate your work against Iron Mugulis and other terrifying Paradox Pokemon but you should take some time off and reconnect, I think it's taking a toll
The Jimothy Cool content lately has been all over the place and I love it. Between the Pokémon Go competitive rectangle, the types throughout the generations, the cute Gen 3 love and now this. I can't get enough of it really!
First of all, you had me at the title. Then the quality blew me away but what truly sold me was your compelling argument, you should have a bond with your partner. Bro, I commend you for this excellent video, I came here expecting 1.2 million subscribers, then saw how many there are…you are the next big channel my friend.
If you're new here, you need to catch up on the JimothyCool Cinematic Universe. We just came out of the great Horse Council Debate a bit ago. Truly an exciting and invigorating plot with twists and turns around every corner. Much recommended
I know it's unlikely, but I'd appreciate if you made a follow up with Leaf Green and Fire Red backsprites in the form of a Short. Not all of them were changed from Ruby and Sapphire (especially since Teddiursa aside only Kanto mons received new sprites) but most of them do outshine their previous ones, sometimes to the point of outright incinerating and change your perspective of them, just look at Gyarados' or Butterfree's for instance!
@3:05 Aeordactyl's arms are shifted downward instead of upward. So rather than it being cut off, you can tell its still there by looking at part of his shoulder. If its wings were upward, its entire face would be covered and it would definitely shift his tier down lol
Mr. Cool, the reason why some Gen 3 sprites may look underwhelming is because they were recycled from Gen 2 and recolored. Those sprites used to be much smaller and thus not as detailed.
That's a fair statement, but many of the F tiers were there despite being gen 3 Pokemon, such as Kyogre and the whales. Meanwhile some of the recycled gen 2 sprites, such as Geodude and Bayleef, were already quality work and as such still landed highly even without that much detail shown.
As much as I can appreciate a back or two as much as the next guy, It would be really nice if we could get a video actually revealing the faces of all these beautiful backs! As a face enjoyer I believe we all would like to know what these fine fellows like from the front.
At work today I was thinking about just how much I love Wingull’s gen 3 back sprite… and boom my favourite RU-vidr puts up a video tier list of gen 3 back sprites. My goddd
mawile's back sprite looks pretty nice in gen 3 but I've always been dissapointed in the gen 4 back sprite which looks not detailed enough. the gen 4 back sprite looks like the gen 3 one but bigger and with all the shading and curvature removed.
I would like to see a video of Jim showing back sprites to his grandmother and various children as these are the most important criteria established for quality. Thank you.
Fun fact: a lot of the gen 3 back sprites are just redraws from gen 2. Also, a few Pokemon got completely redone back sprites in Firered/Leafgreen, such as Alakazam.
58:30 I think Mewtwo is really disappointing, it looks down and more scared than fierce. The gen 4 sprite really does it justice with its iconic stance. Funny enough the gen 3 Mewtwo front sprite outclasses the gen 4 front sprite in every aspect and vice versa comparing the back sprites
I love Barboach's back sprite. He's so energetic and jolly, it makes me happy to look at. Meanwhile, Wailord's back sprite in Gen 4 is just a blue disc.
I'm happy Piloswine was deemed so atrocious it made Jim fathom an F Tier. I agree with that sentiment. They do not do my boy justice. He is Camel Rock.
I have a concussion and have absolutely zero podcasts or audiobooks to enjoy while avoiding screens and thinking. this provided an easy S tier morning for me, thank you mr cool
