I have taken upon myself to complete the humongous task of ranking every single The Legend of Zelda song! The final list is 851 tracks long, so the ranking will be uploaded in sections (I'm aiming to upload one video every week).
Completing this monumental task led me to establish some ground rules:
- These are only songs from the main line of games. I didn’t include spin offs, such as Hyrule Warriors (if you would like me to include it, let me know so I can update the list!).
- I’m not including fanfares/songs less than 30 seconds long. Most of them are jingles, more than anything, and are way too short to consider them an actual song.
- There are themes that repeat across all games (think the main theme, Zelda’s Lullaby, Ganondorf’s Theme, etc.). If two or more games have the same theme arranged in the same way I’m counting them as the same (e.g. Zelda’s Lullaby in OoT and MM, the Fairy Fountain theme in most games, etc.).
- There are games that have variations of the same theme (such as the Bazaar Shops being a remix of the Bazaar theme in SS). If the base melody is the same and there’s only addition of instruments/speeding up/changing pitch, I’m counting them as the same--it would make no sense for them to be counted differently. After all, it’s the same melody.
- There are songs/themes that are divided by phases (such as Aryll’s Rescue from WW [there are 5 of them], Blizzetta from TP [there are 3 phases]). I’m counting them as the same--after all, in-game you hear them in sequence, as if they were the same (and to make the list more digestible).
Zelda is my favorite video game series and I hold its music near and dear to my heart. Doing this has been VERY time-consuming, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Just remember that this is my own opinion, and have mostly done this for people to enjoy Zelda's music just as I do.
