Callaway not in pure class category is wild. Most wins on tour this year. Also on the same level as Wilson? Cmon. Great video though fun topic to think about.
When I think class I think Titleist and Mizuno. Classic looks. Would put Callaway and TM in the tech performance category. Ping somewhere in the middle. All equally good on the course, just a slightly different way of getting there.
I would have to say your rankings are pretty much spot on, except I would have moved Callaway into the pure class section just for the fact as long as they been turning out quality clubs at a decent price. Second, I would have to move Cleveland into the would buy category. Their new line of the launcher XL’s are a really good iron for a beginner. The blade is a bit long, but would give the newer golfer, more confidence standing over the ball. As far as the top line it’s not as fat as some of the other super game improvement irons, finally the sound of these I feel are very appealing.
Agree with most. Callaway is pure class. Drivers irons balls putters. Odyssey should be at least would buy, after all an odyssey putter just won the masters.
I too agree for the most part with you. My differences are that Callaway should be in Pure Class. Callaway like Taylor Made keeps pushing the envelope. And finally, PXG is another one that deserves to be in the Pure Class, especially for the previous generation clubs that are fantastic and selling at a great price.
They're definitely right on the borderline, but for me it's got to do one single thing exceptionally (like Scotty) or be a full and complete range of near perfection.
Callaway should be Pure Class. On PGA Tour there Players who uses the Paradym Driver have won more events this year than any other Golf Company.. Also there New Paradym Irons are very Nice as well.
I want to say how impressed I am with my Sub 70 659CBs. I was fitted at Fit For Purpose here in the UK, clubs were assembled to my specification by Stephen Bedford and they are great. I'm not sure that other direct to consumer brands can customise their clubs like this so I don't have price issues. Playing Archerfield and the West Links next week so calling in to see Stephen and look at wedges 😁.Oh, the fairway woods are good too.
Fun list! All things Srixon & Cleveland wedges are my favs atm. Srixon is very well structured on pricing for everything from clubs to balls, gloves, etc. which make it a big player in todays market. Plus, their clubs are super money. And Cleveland wedges (RTX line) are so solid, I can't go back to anything else! Great lineup though!
If Dunlop would just merge the best parts of Cleveland & Srixon they might have a pure class brand. Srixon Woods, Srixon irons, Srixon ball, Cleveland Wedges under one brand.
I play Honma TR20P, while I have tried many different clubs, the Honmas are so forgiving and so hot that no matter what I hit I keep coming back to them. I also have Srixon ZX4 MKIIs but they take a back seat to the Honmas.
I was surprised to see Callaway not make the Pure Class rating....However since I've just been fit for a set of T200's, really glad to see them as the first brand you ranked in the Pure Class category!! Very extensive and inclusive list...I'm using an Odyssey putter, but am considering moving off of the face balanced putter, so I might check out some of these other brands you mentioned - I'm not keen to drop $500+ on a Scotty.
These are mostly golf clubs, could you make a video ranking golf merch in terms of quality and value? I just got into golfing and am looking into the clothings that has the best quality and best bang for the buck! I've actually went for the Takomo golf irons after one of your latest videos in the past 2-3 months!
Gotta get your hands on some Maltby clubs. For the price, they’re tough to beat. Their TS1 players distance iron is phenomenal. Only major brand I liked more was the Mizuno 223.
I actually agree for the most part and think PXG has a chance to get into pure class. You should do a review on their new 03 17 CB irons. Now those look pure class.
I got fitted in them last week they are probably the irons mos most good players should play nasty dispersion and offset is blade like! I'm newer to golf and i was calling shots at my fitting the 0317 ST are good but you need a 90mph swing and hit it dead nuts or your hands ring for me it was about 10 yards shorter on my 82-86 mph swing CB got me a consistent 160-165 carry $1089 with military discount 5-GW
@@adenstocks9906 I thought so too but when you see the offset and feel it changed my mind! Do you know how hard it is not to just go with Mizuno,Titleist,TM,etc based off looks? Lol
I’m so glad when I went for my iron fitting a couple weeks ago, Mizuno chose me! I went with the Mizuno JPX Hot Metal. Those irons really felt like it was meant to be out of 6 other brands I hit. Tomorrow I go for my driver fitting and I think I’ll mention Mizuno driver as I’ve never hit one before! Great content as always🙌🏽
@@LetsPlayThru roger that sir! I’m excited to give them all a try. I watched the Adam Scott Miura tour video and was in awe about the facility and Mr. Miura and his sons still making those legendary irons. They’re crazy expensive though and I don’t even know who sells them in my area, I’ve searched no one does. I’m happy with my Mizuno irons
@@LetsPlayThru so my fitting went well. Guess what I went with? Well it chose me. The Mizuno ST 10.5 degree regular flex Tensei shaft. You should really be a Mizuno Ambassador👊🏽
Need Edel on this list! First class putter technology. They were way ahead of their time in counter balanced putters not to mention one of the leaders in the single length iron industry.
In 2022 I thought I was going to be a Mizuno man.....nope! along came the Paradym from Callaway and now that's where I'm staying.....and Odyssey putter...PURE CLASS
Hello, I'm a 57 yo male, haven't played golf since my mid 20's, ( kids, career etc.) I have had both knee's replaced recently and i am currently at 280lbs. Looking forward to returning to the course, however I need to lose weight and increase strength. My question is should I purchase my dream clubs Ping G430 to get back into golf or should I buy something like an entry level set to get back into it. At my best I would occasionally break 80, but often break 90, always at a public course. Money kinda isn't important, budget for everything starting from scratch is approx $5k Aus. A reply would be awesome, thanks in advanced.
Whats up Gabe!! Great video. I share many of your opinions save maybe Odyssey. Your spot on that they are lacking in innovation, but I’m thrilled they’ve brought back the putter designs that cemented them in history and as you mentioned, that kind of success for such little money is hard to beat in my book. Loving the content!!! 👏
Tour Edge putters are my favorite. I had an Odyssey putter and traded it in for new shoes. My Cobra LTDx irons are being traded in for Mizuno jpx 923 pro irons. If I hit the Cobras pure they take off. If I so much as blink they head to the right every time. In my opinion, I'd try the PXG's if the commercials were not so annoying. I had a set of Tommy Armour's and wish I hadn't sold them. I'm considering the 845's
PXG is pure class. Gen 5 (and now Gen 6) clubs are at the top of the game. Everything I’ve ever purchased from PXG has been great. I would bump them up to the top tier.
Great video and no disagreements on your rankings. Though there are several I’ve never even played. I did get a good laugh when you mentioned the Nike Sasquatch. Why? Cause I still have one of the shovel sledgehammers in my closet!! You have the best overall golf RU-vid videos. Very articulate, no biases towards any brand and you stay on point without going off on a tangent. Just down to earth. 👍
For two holes in one round. I bought blindly. Should have just thrown the $$ in a shredder. It was heavy, loud and worse than an old Kmart club! I guess I’m just keeping it around as a relic. A thousand years from now someone will find one of these, look at each and say, what the …. ya think this was? I don’t know, but put it back in the ground and we will never speak of it again.
I don't see anything where I could disagree with you Gabe. I cannot try many brands because of my location but your general assessment seems quite accurate.
Glad to see Stix so high. I bought a set of those when I returned to golf and they served me well. But… I think you got Callaway completely wrong. I recently upgraded to the Ping G430 line, but the Paradyms were a close second for me. The driver was absolutely gorgeous and the irons hit very well. Other than that, the list looks pretty good.
odyssey in meh and kirkland in would buy?!? You have Taylormade over Callaway in 2023. That new Paradigm driver and irons are pure class. stealth 2 maybe would buy at best.
ive been playing about 7 months. im 34 and have been playing guitar since i was 15. my favorite brand of guitar has always been taylor. so i have a subconcious affinity for taylormade clubs. im using the stealth driver and irons, sim 2 hybrid, aeroburner 3 wood and spider putter, they play better than i do
Always love these videos! I really love the look of the Takomo irons you're playing this year, and for me they have leapfrogged PXG as the most desirable direct-to-consumer brand. I'm a bit "Meh" about Callaway recently. Neither the Paradym driver or irons move the needle from the Rogue ST series, in fact I don't think they've improved much since the Mavrik line, which I gamed. Dunlop made me laugh. That is one brand you don't wanna be seen gaming over here in the UK. They are sold through catalog stores for around £250 for 14 clubs. You'll get a basic Wilson package for not much more.
Pretty good evaluation. There will always be controversy who should be in the… Pure class category. It all boils down to preference but for the most of what you’ve rated here I would say it’s pretty well spot on. It all depends on what any buyer is looking for, how it performs for them, what they like to look at etc. It’s like one guy says he loves the red car the other guy says he hates it and he likes the blue one. One guy likes BMW one guy likes Mercedes. Next guy would burn them both and go Lexus. You get my story LOL. It also boils down to budget, some of the best clubs are not necessarily the most expensive ones and they have some of the most preferred clubs are more than anyone can afford. There are people in this world that don’t make a lot of money that want to play golf and with the increase in green fees through the roof in Canada it makes what do you have to spend on clubs more limited. So it definitely boils down to being able to balance the budget on both ends for clubs and for the expense of playing the game. Very enjoyable video thank you very much Gabe.
You hit the nail on the head with PING wedges. Wedge ratings often only consider spin. Which is why PING is never in the conversation with Cleveland or Volkeys. But the PING Glide wedges are 10x more forgiving. I have had toey and heely hits land right next to the pin more times than i can count. And talk about velvety soft feel. PING is simply the best all around in my opinion. Wedges, Irons, Drivers and of course Putters. All top notch.
Dunlop owns - Srixon, Cleveland and XXIO. Just can't sell golf equipment in the US or Japan called "Dunlop"... but Japan will buy $1,000 driver if it's called "XXIO"....
Sub 70 might be a little more expensive for a CD company but you can get your clubs custom fit and have the with in 2-3 weeks. I noticed other CD companies are 4-6 weeks out and some even more.
Can’t not comment on Callaway not being pure. Imasgine you doing this upped your comments. Great job there. Odyssey has many new putters out there that rival anything TM has. The triple track is doing for me now what the two ball did for me then. And match it to the TT ball to impress your friends with results.
Have you ever tried the Cleveland XL Launcher irons. Not the Halo. Are so good they hit pretty much straight. In the putters are amazing. I’m Using the mullet. So good. Cleveland good value Great improvement irons
Pretty accurate from my perspective with one note. MacGregor just came out with a new set of irons that are very good looking that I think would make a great review video for the channel. I'd love to see what you think of them.
Personally I just want winter to end. Got another storm this wk. Good thing my local town has golf sim. Awesome review Gabe. It would we so nice to try all these whether they are “pure class” or even “nah”. Lol You should do a review on golf balls. Maybe you have. Mizuno rules!! Lol
Driver TM Irons Titliest T400 Wedges Calloway Putter Odyssey Woods Tour Edge/Cobra Ball TM or Wilson I think I have most of my bases covered, have played Ping and Mizuno. All v good wish I could just play 1 brand but looking always at best fit
Can you tell us why you didn't include Lazrus? I know they're a smaller brand, but they're supposedly the number one wedges on Amazon, so lots of amateurs seem to be interested in them as a brand.
Do you rank XXIO not in the "would buy" because of price point only? I recently bought a set practically new set of irons and LOVE them, hitting much better than my older TaylorMade Aero Burners.
No way I’d put Taylormade in pure class, especially with what you said about odyssey. I can’t see their drivers lasting very long with these faces. Already see plenty of issues with them and I think you’d struggle to pick up a used one in the next 10 years or so unlike almost every other brand. Their putters are meh as well. You say Odyssey haven’t released anything in years. I don’t have an odyssey but the Eleven series and 5k are unbelievable in terms of forgiveness. How long ago was the Spider released? And how many dents do the cheap aluminium faces pick up on them?
I've recently started looking into Sub-70 because of the lengthy lead times from Takomo. Would love to see a review of the 699/699 Pro (especially the original version) if you think they're worth looking into! It's great to see club reviews from a non-professional, everyday golfer, especially someone in Tampa!
I just ordered a set of Takomos with my custom specs…was quoted 8-12 weeks. Just recieved email today (only 2 weeks from order date) that they are built and being shipped. Wasn’t too bad at all.
The first clubs I had were a hand me down set of Yonex clubs from a wonderful older gentleman that injured himself and couldn't play anymore. I was just starting out and I had the Walmart set of Wilson clubs. I think he felt bad for me. Wish I hung on to them.
Callaway is my one disagreement with you. Woods, irons, putters, and balls are first class. They can accommodate all skill levels with their different lines of equipment. The Callaway Pre-Owned site is also a fantastic resource.
How is Callaway not in the Pure Class category? I switched from Taylor Made to mostly all Callaway Paradym because they're awesome. I mixed in some Cleveland hybrids and wedges but Taylor Made is just not what they were at their apex (during the Sim II era).
I like some Odyssey models, but you are right, I think they are kind of sitting on their laurels and not innovating. In fact they brought out an old model, the OG, maybe improved but old tech. Bust taking cash, not improving tech.
Damn, couldn't give See More putters a ranking? Has changed my putting and high quality Nashville Series Studio. Ask them to send you a loaner or a keeper lol.
I still have my original White Hot putter I've been using since high school (20 years and running strong). Feels great, I know the putter, why change???
Interesting list and I understand it's subjective, but I really have to disagree about your Odyssey golf ranking. They have some of the best putters out there and are carried by a lot of tour players, so not sure how you call that "meh." Their quality of clubs has been exceptional for years so not sure how you can point back to an issue 7 years ago when doing a current ranking of their clubs. I haven't see any groundbreaking innovations from any of the major putter brands lately - mostly tweaking of the standard models. Any completely new styles are usually gimmicky and come from other companies that are trying to gain ground on the big dogs in the putter world. Yeah, Scotty has been the standard for years, but Odyssey isn't lagging any longer, IMHO. Keep up the great content - Cheers!
This time I have some serious disagrements. I would definitly move Taylormade and Titlest one level down. Second, Miura should be at the top, on my opinion.
