Elmo is voiced by a black man, which is why some consider the character to be black. Also, Jake being in the highest tier is mostly carried by Chester Stone. There are videos of people animating Jake over his videos.
@@Silverheart575 He's still the most popular voice of him. And there's a few subtextual reasons why people see Elmo as black. Much in part due to the fact Sesame Street was geared toward black children and other urban youth, hence it taking place on the street, and Elmo acts as the audience surrogate connecting those dots
Jehtt explained knuckles pretty easily "I told him to watch out for the police because he's black and he said 'what are you talking about, im an echidna.' but c'mon, we all know knuckles is black."
@@kaizoku8087 In Netflix's "Sonic Prime" there's a pirate universe where a lot of characters are pirates (Knuckles, Rose, Tails, Rouge, and the purple guy with his little frog, I'm so sorry for blanking on their names)
@@nekrosis6560it kinda made me mad ngl, but if you search up fanart a lot of artists portray him with darkskin which I think is really cool and helps break stereotypes
@@artsyscrub3226 there’s very compelling evidence you can find for Jazz being black-coded. Even Lupe Fiasco has made several songs referencing this (listen to AUTOBOTO for instance).
@emptyglass7867 there's an episode (the show is called Transformers: Animated) where the Autobots are turned into humans, and Bumblebee is lightskinned, so it's basically confirmed. Jazz is also pretty much always coded as black, and I think Soundwave in the Unicron trilogy was as well. Keith David also voices Grimlock (this version isn't an idiot) in Earthspark, which is just really cool
Bender is said in the show to be made in Mexico and his full name is Bender Bending Rodriguez, that robot a cholo. Same with the hyenas, Shenzi black but that man Banzai a whole ass Mexican
The hyenas are as literal a figurative representation of Nazis, complete with goose-stepping and (in unused storyboards) marching in a swastika formation.
Sesame Street was based on inner city kids. After seeing how TV could help give them a head start. Maybe not Elmo specifically but he lives in the black part of town.
Even if Elmo is not black, he's like those whites/latinos that grow up in black communities for one reason or another and are pretty much adopted into them as another black person
Knuckles is interesting because he was clearly originally designed as an Afro-Caribbean character with the dreads and the color scheme of his shoes and was even given a Jamaican accent in some comics, but then was clearly coded as Maya in Adventure 1 despite keeping some of that black coding with his music tracks throughout the Adventure games. I guess he's Afro-Indigenous?
Yeah I was confused about that too, like his tribe and their culture is Incan/Mayan inspired but he was coded the most Caribbean man in the same breath so ???
Cause that's how writing works...? Taking parts of things that make them unique and mixing them in ways that work? Things can be the sum of their parts.
@@kiantesa2173 I mean yes and no. Overall I don't see anything wrong with this but usually when drawing inspiration from cultures you make sure to draw those that are closely related to each other geographically and periodically. I feel Inkan/Mayan culture might be a little too far away from Carribbean culture which is a lot more recent and completely different. However it all doesn't matter when it comes to Knuckles because ethnicity/culture is not a major component of his character. Overall you gotta be careful when choosing to create something that is inspired by reap life references and or history. But looking at the genre and Knuckles as a whole, it's not really set in stone. He could be Mayan Carribbean all we know, it's not like people can't be multi ethnic.
Country was originally a African language before white people stole it, same thing with cowboys and cowgirls. Even country music was created by black people.
Listening to this like hearing somebody infodump about their favorite fictional universe. Like, I got absolutely zero clue what in the name of hell you are talking about but please, go off
Knuckles for sure black. A well respected Caribbean man. I don't see bender as black he more of an off the wall white guy 😂. The female hyaena somewhat black 😂. Lex luthor from the superman animated series is black even tho it wasn't there.
Arthur has black coded relatives who live out in the country, farming. Arthur is light skinned, but The Brain in 💯% black. He's got african relatives and celebrates Kwanza.
@@yoshy6147 TRIPLETS BORN, THE THRONE AWAITS! A SEER WARNS OF A DEADLY FATE!!!!! (of course. I was referring to that general era of sonic, I loved that VA more than the new ones but I can't really complain haha)
For Optimus and Bumblebee I can see prime as white or with melanin, and Bee screams white boy to me, unless you’re talking about Bayverse Bee. Bay Bee definitely gives off light skin (and is canonly in TFA).
Rise of the TMNT (2018) Donnie is confirmed as autistic. People often head-cannon Silver as autistic, too. White man tier having characters seen as autistic is interesting, since there can be a racial bias in autism diagnoses. In the past it was mostly middle class and richer white people getting diagnosed. White boys, specifically children, with obvious signs were studied and are the basis of past criteria. They also make up the stereotypes of autism as a “White Man” disorder. POC, women, queer people, adults, and people who don’t need as many accommodations are less likely to be diagnosed until they’re older. Sometimes they just don’t get diagnosed and never find out or they self diagnosis. More diverse representation of neurodivergent people would help decrease this stigma and stereotype. I think this would make an interesting video essay. (Also Mikey is confirmed to have ADHD in the 2018 one, too.) Edit: I forgot to mention how expensive getting tested and diagnosed is, not to mention the state of US healthcare and insurance. Doctors can be biased because of these stereotypes, too.
Silver isn't autistic. He's just kinda dumb but in a charming way. He has no social knowledge or experience because everyone in his world was fucking dead for most of his life.
Yes and yes to @horizon5417 Basically if they weren't cool enough they got thrown off the list, but, you know that's how black people operate. Arthur, Donatello, who else?
You know it's funny cuz Knux is black in our recent culture, but bro...the OG Knuckles is Mayan. He's Guate/Mexican bro😂 he still technically POC tho, but he not Jamaican outside his color scheme. But hey, Afro-Latino knuckles i can fux with. -
I personally headcannon all the ROTTMNT as black, though I wouldn't bat an eye if someone disagreed with Leo on that one, being played by Ben Schwartz makes it pretty easy to see him as white for a lot of people lol
That’s so true though, because whenever I see ppl make fanarts of them as humans (they’re usually portrayed as blasian or black) leonardo is always the most lightskin or racially ambiguous one out of the group, or is given blonde hair lol
You definitely offended a whole generation of oldheads by referring to Max as “this dude” and not putting him at the top. Please refer to Atlanta’s episode on _A Goofy Movie._ 😂
can’t get over that half this comment section is just rise fans coming out the woodwork to tell bro that he used a pic of leonardo instead of raphael. not a neurotypical in sight here, i’ll tell u that💀
Add PaRappa, that dude is BLACK like c’mon. And another suggestion could be PJ Berri (PaRappa’s best friend), Katy Kat (PaRappa’s friend) and Rammy (Lammy’s rival from Um Jammer Lammy, aka the spin off of PaRappa) because although they’re all voiced by black people, I genuinely see them as black.
When you said Raphael at 2:26, the guy in the picture was actually Leonardo, but all of the ninja turtles were in red masks in that episode. And also, just to put it out there, 2018 Leo, the one shown in the pic in the most LIGHTSKINDED dude out there. 🤷🏽♀️
bro that wasnt raph that was leo, that image is when they were all wearing the og costumes. you can tell its leo cus in rise he got them eye scar thingys
IMO Knuckles is an afro-latino, native mayan folk from tikal are *very* dark skinned and also have very fashionable dreads. Speaking as someone from the country of course.
Unrelated to the video but I like to think of the backyardigans being in a Caribbean centric town so they're all black/Hispanic children. Except for Austin. He's the Token white kid.
First experience with Adventure Time and it was Jake and Finn using their imagination and was hooked the moment Jake said something along the lines of "Girl if you weren't a part of my imagination, I'd totally let you have my babies"
If the pictures for Donatello and “Raphael” (that was leo wearing a red mask) had been from any other series I would have agreed but the rise turtles are so black and Hispanic coded it’s unreal
Shadow the hedgehog: am I a joke to you. I personally believe shadow's black. I mean the way he acts is he's got the soul of a black man, a man who wears black Air Forces.
You don’t know how many things I’ve seen of people making Sonic black And than fucking shadow Edit: *people in my replies Blaze is Asian don’t hide from the truth*
I think people make Sonic black because of his voice actors, Jaleel White and Deven Mack. White voiced Sonic during severals animated adaptations, so many people grew hearing his voice as Sonic (since 2D era Sonic didn't have a voice) and Mack voiced Sonic in Sonic Prime, the most recent animated adaptation. However, beside those two, Sonic was voiced mostly by white man in English, so I see Sonic as white In my opinion: Sonic = White Tails = Asian (Japanese, very obviously to catch) Knuckles = Black PS: Nevermind, just read the comments and they pretty much pointed to what I said
I think about: Sebastian(Little Mermaid) Mushu(Mulan) Zipper(Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers) Donkey(Shrek) King Julian and many others from(Madagascar) Brer Rabbit, Fox and Bear(Song of the South) Grim(Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy) Aku Aku and Uka Uka(Crash Bandicoot) The Murray, Dimitri, Mz Ruby and Grizz(Sly Cooper) Drax the Destroyer, Gamora and other Aliens from(Guardians of Galaxy) Felix the Cat(especially the 90s version) The Mask(The Mask) maybe The Monstars(SpaceJam) Daffy and Plucky Duck(Looney and Tiny Toons) The Three Bears(Puss in Boots Last Wish) Zakumi(FIFA 2010 Mascot) Maybe Antauri and OTTO(SRMTHFG) Fido Dido(Seven Up Mascot) Cuphead Freaknik(Freaknik the Musical) Maybe Hunter(Spyro) Maybe Twilight(MLP)
When you ranked rise of the tmnt Raph, that was actually Leo 😭 There was an episode that they all wore red to do extra ninja training or something like that. Love this tho‼️‼️
Dude knuckles literally comes from a tribe based off of aztecs and incas, which are from hispanic culture. And as far as I know, Sonic was created to appeal to the white rebel american teen stereotype from the 90s, hence making him white.
