It was nice spending that much time with you this Sunday Carl. I have 3 pair of leather boots and a couple winter boots. My Builder Pro’s are top of my list :)
Thanks for the compilation. I love your take on what makes a good boot - it’s very personal and individual. Not only is that a confident way to display this (not conforming to what everyone thinks should be the perfect boot) but it gives your listeners the permission to enjoy their own boots even if they do t have the most popular boot on RU-vid. Keep it coming!
That was the most articulate presentation of anything that I have ever seen. Great job Carl, I loved the video. You're the reason I have invested in a pair of Nick's Urban drifters in one of your favourite leathers " waxed flesh". Cheers and keep it going. Two thumbs up!!
I'm happy I finally watched this. It *seems* like everything rated below the Taft Hiro (except the Jim Green Monster and L.L. Bean duck boot) you wouldn't miss if you sold? I'd love to see an updated version of this video in late 2023 or early 2024 to see how you've pared down and maybe added one or two choice additions. I've had White's Cruisers and Nick's Urban Loggers on my wishlist for awhile now (not strictly work, casual, or dress), but seeing you talk about your Kreosotes (again), I'm starting to think I should just save up and have a pair or two made to fit my foot. Maybe from an up and coming builder so the wait is more reasonable. What do you think? It's great to have an example on RU-vid of someone who advocates for buying the best, and buying less.
Bought the Origin Bison, looks nice but is just ok. Im old enough I was looking for a really good boot and saw one of your videos mentioning Whites. Went to the website and thought wow that s a lot of money for some boots. I wanted something nice looking for riding my motorcycle so I ordered a pair of Whites/ Max Schaff 4Q. I had to wait 6 weeks for them to arrive but boy was it worth the wait. After 5 minutes of wearing them I realized Ive been wearing garbage shoes for the last 40 years. I can see a few different Whites in my future there just that good. Thanks for these videos I get it now . I doubt the Origin boots will ever be worn now which seems like a waste but its just the reality of the quality difference.
Carl brother, it's your style of unapologetic honesty, that makes this channel what it is. I too, see the beauty of the Nail Shank. No other boot, quite fills it's niche. That gothic, American folklore style, just emanates from its design. I dream of someday owning a pair of "RS1 dIRT's." Someday. Anyway....I don't want to take up too much of your time. Just wanted you to know that, as usual, this was time well spent for me. Here's wishing you all the best. Cheers....🥃
This was awesome man. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I feel you on having to many boots. I just sold a few from my collection. I felt like having 7 was too many...I can't imagine 40 something haha
I don't recall ever saying "YESSSS!!!" so many times in a single video :) Man I really appreciate all the effort you put into these great videos. Can't even imagine how many hours it took you to film and edit this video. Thank you sir!
My three favorite: Origin USA Bison Boot - Red Wing Iron Ranger - Nicks CM Collab. Dude, you gotta get out of those smooth carpeted floors and more into the woods Lol.
ill say this... i respect the dude in the video. he OWNS his favourite pair of boots, he doesn't care if its not your style, those are HIS GOD DAMN FAVOURITE BOOTS. i respect it.... not my own first choice on the list, but i respect it.
Thank you Carl for this very relaxing video for a Saturday morning! I'll never have this many boots, I have 1 pair of Iron Rangers and 1 pair of Blacksmiths. I love them both, But now I feel the need to go shopping!
I would really like a video on your boot storage? How do you keep them organized and functional to actually wear different ones in rotation. At your number of boots you almost need a storage unit for your boots! :)
Love the channel and this video man! Im starting a new manufacturing job with one of the companies on this list and I'm psyched! I'm a newcomer to your channel and the world of boot making, but I'm excited to be a part of it now.
Your Woolrich comment on the narrow last - this is the biggest thing for me, finding the boot maker with the right last. And why Carmina is my favorite. You can have any boot or shoe made in any of their lasts. Wish you would review one of their jump boots. I know it’s a little on the dressier side, but their boots can kick through a wall, way tougher than you’d think. Anyway, for me, the last is everything. I have way too many dress boots, mostly Alden and Carmina, but my Beckett Simonon “Nolan” boots deserve a mention, because I have intentionally tried to destroy them by hiking with them, and warehouse/forklift duty, but with Renovateur and shoe cream they polish up and are just looking better and better. I do not regret that purchase at all. Thanks for the awesome video, excellent content as usual. ✌️
40 boots is a lot, especially since you probably also wear other footwear at least some of the time. Even if you are in the trades, you probably only need at most 5 pair of boots (one pair of work boots, one backup, 1 casual boot, 1 dressy boot, and one rain or snow boot). and if you are not in the trades, then maybe just 3. Add a variety of colors and you are up to maybe 5 or 6, 8 at most. I posted recently on a shoe forum about this topic since my last count of shoes and boots in my current rotation (not counting very old shoes I don't ever wear) is in the low 30s, maybe 32 or 33. Some are seasonal, like boat shoes and sandals for summer, and boots for winter, and others not. But even still, while it is nice to have options, like a variety of colors and styles, in a rotation of nice shoes, and boots along with beaters for bad weather. But even accounting for that, I am hard pressed to say any man needs more than 20 or 25 pairs of shoes and boots, and if I were a minimalist, which I am not, I would say nobody really needs more than 5 or 6 at any given time. But that said, you are a guy who reviews boots and other gear so it only makes sense you would acquire so many boots. Sell, or donate the bottom third immediately. Given your platform, I am sure they could be gone in a few days.
When you pulled out those Kreosite Boots, I instantly could see the impeccable quality throughout that entire boot. Clearly earned it’s number one spot in your list 🥾 🔥 🕶😎
Super awesome video, thanks for taking the time to talk a little bit about each boot. With how many boots you own, have you done a "If I could only keep 5 boots to cover every situation" video? Might be interesting if you haven't.
Thanks for sharing your awesome boot collection in your favorite order! Nice collection and your favorite was my favorite too, that boot looks amazing!
I love this video! I usually forget to "like" a video but when you told people to F off for acting all "Manly Man" I immediately liked the vid :). LOVE that!
Videos like this really show the progression of your styles/tastes/preferences evolving as time goes on. It seems you've branched out a bit from your workwear roots, and moved in a dressier/sleeker direction, which is awesome to see! It's unfortunate that you've had a lot of quality issues with your White's. Would you recommend sticking with Nick's over White's if you had to choose?
Thank you!! Well, the Whites issues are usually minor finishing problems. Some like the Smoke Jumpers are absolutely perfect, but others like the Bounty Hunters are lacking in that department. Overall the Nicks have been better, but some models are only available through Whites.
You should get some Edward Green. I’m about to buy the Banbury Chukka in snuff suede but they have plenty of calf skins and cordovan shells and other options. Galways are probably the most famous
Great video. I'm closing on 50 pairs. Don't really understand why. Truely only need single digit pairs. Been giving pairs away to fellow construction workers. Love the collection. Appreciate your personal take on these boots
This is a wonderful effort that conveys hard-won opinions, well-done. What's interesting is what isn't here---yet? No Aldens? Not even Indys? Viberg Service? I look forward to hearing what you have to say about those standards.
I had a pair of Indys, but the heel was way too narrow unfortunately. Viberg is a staple, and I think I'll get a pair in the future but I have to find the right ones.
You'll love those J.G. Monsters! Cushioned around the whole foot, bit still have the room in the toe cap like the Razorbacks. And that aggressive, lugged-out traction is one of a kind! Get 'em dirty, and give us a review!
Lovely boot collection and good analysis! Much appreciated. Gave me ideas! Lucky you, free boots👍 I’ve only got 1 pair of “zip” boots but for what I need em for I’m thankful 😄 just got a pair on Julian engineer boots and they fit me right out of the box. Little bit of boot stretch and they’re perfect. True to size at least mine. Vibram and Catpaw soles. Have RW 2268s that fit just fine but these are a step above foresure. Been wearing em in for 4 days. Feel good. I love the toe box on the John Lofgrens. Hey anyone what’s your go to for boot grease? I use Huberds but not sure it’s the best.
The Imelda Marcos of men’s footwear👍🏻. Thanks Carl I think I’m going to try a pair of Thursday boots. The price is right and there are a couple of models I am interested in.
Shout out from Farmington. I started working at Origin after I saw your initial review! I didn't know what they did for business before it but now I work as one of graphic designers! Keep an eye out for our safety toe boot, it should be available pretty soon! (Yes, that's a shameless plug)
Thank you Carl for taking the time to do this entire video, I am too a boot affectionato and own many boots , I really dig the denim shirt you’re wearing what brand is it? thanks for sharing
Seems crazy to ask your opinion on yet another boot brand, but would love to hear your take on JK Boots. See them compared with Nicks often, and I just got a pair and absolutely love them.
Great Video Carl! I want to thank you for introducing me good boots. I have my Nicks thanks to you and Im looking at the Grant stone now also. Nice collection you have!
I have a high instep too. The boots I've had the most issues with are Haix. Two pairs in particular felt like vices on my feet. Glad to see Jim Green's ranking up high on your list. I emailed JG asking how their factories fared during the recent riots and they said the factory was saved. I bought a pair to show my support and they were much appreciative. The boot world is fascinating. I bought a pair of Waxi boots from South Africa. It's a kind of boot the armies down there used to wear. Maybe you can get a pair and review them.
Odenwald are such a nice boot. I first got the Normandy then the Odenwald both with leather soles. The Odenwald I wore to Italy and they spent a lot of time walking around Rome, Napoli, Pompeii and Venezia. Your number 1 are amazing
Zip boots was a legend in 80-90 with black shiny leather, sharp toe and gold zipper... A neck breaker for sure...still have them somewhere in my storage 😆
I understand that this might not be the best place to comment this but there is a Canadian boot brand called Boulet that I was wondering if you could do a review on.
No Carl Murawski edition Kreosotes in green leather on the list? I would have put them up at the top of the list based on the photos you posted. I'm a sucker for green as you are and also love the concept of one man hand crafting the boots from start to finish.
Great video Carl, I am a new fan. Quick critique though; your 'cut' scenes where you are standing to showcase the boot - roll up your cuffs! We can't really see any of the boots properly when they are half covered by your jeans. I can tell you normally roll your cuffs, as I noticed they were rolled while you were sitting in the chair... Why unroll them for the cut scenes? Anyhow, keep up the good work, and thank you for the great suggestions!
Get a pair of Salomon 4d gtx and guarantee they would be the most comfortable, nimble, versatile boot you own.... just not very fashionable or your style but you should definitely give them a try.... thanks for the great videos

@@Madchad6969 Solovair is a footwear return to the late 1970s and a little better. I would not buy DMs I'm sorry to say. Wood seems wrong but it works fine.
I have a pair of Danner trackwelts 6 inch I have worn them every day for four years and their still like new I was wondering if you could do a video on them
I have a pair of Kreosote nail shank boots on order as well as another model, just so so everyone knows that the wait is well over 2 years for any order. Currently At 2 years myself, but hopefully the wait will be worth it.
I think you'll be very happy with the end result, truly worth the wait in my opinion. I got my second pair after about 18 months or so- totally worth it.
Just bought my first pair of "custom" boots. Ordered a pair of Txture Sanity boots made in Indonesia. Seen numerous videos about Indo boots and brands. Chose Txture Because they make some good looking high construction standards and they have one of the better websites and ordering process. Not US website quality for ordering stuff, but better than most. Indo boot manufacturers use IG for a lot of their ordering system which was actually never easy and they were very responsive to IG. I'll try to remember to post his I like the boots once I get them and do follow up posts about how they last in the months ahead.... Very excited but will be late September or early November before they are delivered....
Just came across this video and I have to say, you may have an addiction ;) In all seriousness though, after thirty years in the Army, my favorite boots were the Cochran II’s. (Soft leather jump-style). That’s why I absolutely love my Iron Rangers. They remind me of when I was a young buck-sergeant, trying to figure things out. Great review video, I’ll be back!
Great channel and very interesting video! I have four pairs of boots, although I never intended for them to be a "collection". I just like good boots. I've got a pair each of Grant Stone Diesel with veg-tanned leather uppers, Oak Street Field Boots in black Chromexcel, Nick's Falcon in Olive Chromexcel, and the ubiquitous Red Wing Iron Ranger. I wear them all and they're all great!
I would've thought the Thursday Vanguard would've made it on instead of the Duke, but also Carl since you said you wanted more Kudu, just fyi John Doe has waxed kudu right now for 220 right now, I got myself a pair lol
@@fullmetalroyal1216 yeh. I bought the wingtips, for a dress boot. And although they are beautiful, there's inconsistencies and little bits left unfinished in a few places.
Really like the Grant Stone Diesel. Too bad there are no stores in Germany that carry them (afaik), and I'm not gonna ship a few sizes all over the Atlantic.
Thanks for the review :) Perhaps in the future you can could wear pants cut a little higher to your leg length to help show off the upper parts of the boots
How do you deal with having all of these boots, Carl (and jeans and jackets etc) ? Do you focus on some items to wear until getting worn out, or have any particular way of storing them? I'm looking around for people to discuss this but found nothing yet:))
As you age and foot understanding grows, you will see there is a boot and shoe for every possible use and situation. 40 Boots is a minimal collection, friend.
I have 6-7 pairs of leather boots and i feel that the only issue with having those many boots is u can’t wear enough of anything, let alone cherish the time spent in cleaning or conditioning them.
What ever happened to those Silverado boots that you showed with the jim greens a while back? Havent seen any other reviews on them other than yours and I would like to see a more long term review since Ive been looking into getting a pair, thank you keep up the good work man.
