I might have mentioned the punter the Bears drafted: Tory Taylor. After to seeing the trick shots and his booming leg, I can see how flipping the field no matter where come from. A longer field agaisnt the Bears' defense means more success for them.

That's a fair point as well! You can never take away from what a good punter can do for you.

Glad to hear you agree! This was tougher division to decide than I was anticipating. It's a fairly close group.

Everything you say is fair. Bears and the Lions have the best run defense. After we got DJR Davenport CD3 Amik and drafting T Arnold and Rakestraw and we still have Mosley we could be actually have a great defense. I’m waiting to see how good AG can coach.
@Brent6437

And we also got Terrell Williams as a D line coach probably the best out there

I really like the potential Detroit has this year. I'm really pulling for Davenport being a steal for them and having a bounce back year with Hutch on the other side.

Also having Houston back healthy and Betts and Wingo. Almond all of the players I mentioned are new to the Lions. We are stacked with defensive talent.

@@AthanHristodulu Davenport is a interesting pic Brad Holmes made. Low cost but high potential. A former @14 pik that New Orleans picked in the draft. Can you imagine him being healthy for at least 14 games and the depth that we have now. We have depth all around the board now. Nothing like last year. Plug and Play. Dan Campbell expects all of his players to be able to do their job.

The NFC north is becoming a good qb division. The arms race will be on the offensive side. Just having an above average defense will be huge.

Although Reader, Davis, Robertson, Davenport, and the draft picks will all immediately help this defense... isnt the addition of Terrell Williams to the staff really the catalyst that will galvanize this defense... wanna see that pressure to sack ratio improve? meet Mr. Williams... A great point. Plenty of signs pointing to a possible leap for this Lions defense in matching what the offense has been doing!

The Bears defense the 2nd half of last season looked great. The run defense was phenomenal. There’s 1 major cause for, not concern necessarily but something to be wary of at least. The defense overall was very turnover oriented, and turnovers especially can be very volatile. There’s typically regression there. So, I would be surprised if the defense overall doesn’t take a little step back.
@AthanHristodulu
@AthanHristodulu 6 дней назад
That's a fair assessment. I think if you're Chicago, you're expecting that (but hoping not) to see a drop in the takeaways. Then you're hoping that the defense fairs better against the pass to even that out.
@paulmayer8654
@paulmayer8654 6 дней назад
@@AthanHristodulu their game in Detroit last year was a great example. Chicago forced 4 turnovers and still allowed 31 points and lost.
@AthanHristodulu
@AthanHristodulu 6 дней назад
Exactly. You can turn the ball over 4 times, but if every other drive is ending in 6 or 3, and your offense isn't matching those points, it doesn't matter.
@foxhoundandthehound7527
@foxhoundandthehound7527 5 дней назад
@@paulmayer8654also gotta consider how fast the offense was off the field in that game. The defense was beat to hell. When the offense goes 3 and out multiple times it gives the defense less time to rest. Also, they could’ve and should’ve won that game but Justin fields fumbled and our rookie lineman accidentally kicked the ball into the end zone for a safety. It was a terrible meltdown with less than 4 minutes to go that caused us to lose that.
@paulmayer8654
@paulmayer8654 5 дней назад
@@foxhoundandthehound7527 stop 😂😂😂 Detroit had the ball under 20 minutes that game. The defense wasn't tired. They were just dependent on forcing turnovers to stop them.

Going by last season, my Packers D was terrible. The worst when it mattered most. Getting rid of Davondre Campbell and Joe Barry and replacing them with Halfley and some great draft picks as well as McKinney should help. Going by this years projections, The Lions had the best last year, they are an awesome team and will likely have the best this year too. The Bears really think they are gonna be anything but trash. That's hilarious. The Vikings get to watch Sam Dammitt lose his starting job to a 6th round talent they spent a first round pick on, so who gives a fuck about their D?

As a lions fan never would have thought anyone would have ranked them second after not showing any signs of being able to stop the pass. I know we grabbed some help in the secondary that could change that and hoping it does. But right now it's just on paper
@AthanHristodulu
@AthanHristodulu 5 дней назад
The signs for improvement are there. Like I had said, they brought more pressure than anyone last season. If Davenport benefits from Hutch on the other side and the additions to the secondary make a difference, the Lions can make a leap. The NFC North is also fairly flawed on defense. The Packers were awful against the run. The Bears and Lions both struggled against the pass a lot. The Vikings defense hasn't been good for years, and are staring at a ton of player turnover, which can go either way.

But I'm right there with you I believe if AG is what MCDC says he is a top 15 to top 10 D is definitely not out of the question. You did forget the lions did add CFL defensive player of the year in Mathew Betts and we have a healthy James Houston returning ad well

Between the firing of the defensive coordinator, the acquisition of Montez sweat and also rookies and 2nd year players still building their experience. Even with a bad first half they still had some of the top stats of the season, so if anything that just goes to show that they’re a hell of a defense.

@@AthanHristodulu yeah that had a good run defense but a bottom pass defense. They didn’t really have a pass rush which exposed their secondary. By your logic all the 4 teams have potential of having top defenses if they can put it together.

Detroit added several guys to their secondary that can be considered improvements over guys who played last season. Plus, a guy like Emmanuel Moseley, who missed all of last season, who was good in SF. And Detroit led the league in pressure rate, they just have to finish. If they can do that, they could improve drastically this season against the Pass. I explained all of this in the video.

Bears still suck. They are crybaby
@Rawrbagels
@Rawrbagels 4 дня назад
1. Bears have holes everywhere. D-line? Sweat and garbage. MLB is great. But then the secondary is Johnson and garbage. 2. Lions defense is totally relying on new additions to fix their horrendous secondary. Defense can improve dramatically if this happens, but if it doesn’t then they go strait to the bottom more than likely. 3. If Hafley can fix the run defense issues then they clear the division. Least reliant on unproven talent but most reliant on scheme change. As long as they don’t have DEs covering slot WRs, they will probably improve. 4. Best scheme, and the DO have turnover, but they also invested more than the rest of the division. Too much in Turner for my taste but it’s still investment, just got to hope it works out. I think they also have the most proven scheme among these teams. But questions like “can Greenard match Hunters production” are very real.
