Great video, Bart! Excellent production value as well as cool books! Love Winny, btw. I added several of these to my wishlist but the one that surprised me the most was actually "Whalefall!" I saw that in a bookstore and thought the cover was gorgeous and the premise sounded interesting. Didn't expect to find someone who actually read it let alone enjoyed it! Thanks as always for the cool recommendations!

Thanks Alex. I think Whalefall can be a bit polarizing, but I found the story of survival riveting.

Glad you had a great reading month. Triffids was great, loved the tone and setting. Tau Zero is just amazing, such a cool idea and execution. I like More than Human when I read it decades ago but can't wait to re-read that one soon, I really like Teddy's voice, its so unique. Cheers Bart.

Thanks for the idea. It worked out really well for me and I'm glad to check some of these authors off my "list of shame". Have you read anything else by Sturgeon?

@@bartsbookspace I've also read The Dreaming Jewels and Venus Plus X, as well as some short stories which he's really good at writing.

Tau Zero is one of my favorites. The ideas and the ending of Tau Zero wowed me. I’ve enjoyed a lot of Anderson’s other work as well. He’s very versatile, as many of his books are nothing like Tau Zero. For example, another one I loved is the High Crusade, which is a comedy about medieval knights fighting an alien interstellar empire. I also read More Than Human recently. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I much prefer Sturgeon’s books The Dreaming Jewels and Some of Your Blood. The latter of those is only ambiguously SF, more like psychological horror, but very well written and a very interesting story.

I agree, Tau Zero has fantastic premise and a well executed ending. The dreaming Jewels has been on my radar. I’m glad to hear you like it, hopefully I’ll read it next year. Thanks for watching!

You've really got to check out Wyndham's Midwich Cuckoos!

Yes. That will likely be my next Wyndham, I heard that it's a bit strange, so 👍 Thanks!

If you liked Day of the Triffids maybe your next one should be Out of the Deeps/ Kraken Wakes. I love all of Wyndham's work but those two are favourites. However, if you found the characters in Triffids hard to bond to, you will probably have the same with Kraken Wakes. The Chrysalids probably has more relatable characters.

Thank you for the recommendation. Connecting with characters is a plus but, not a “must have” for me. If the story, idea, world, is intriguing the human element can be secondary. Perhaps having this outlook is a prerequisite to enjoyment of much of science-fiction. 😂

@@bartsbookspace Heh. I think you could be right about that, especially the really old stuff where the characters are either 'Vewy Vewy correct Englishmen or He men... In that case Kraken Wakes (I liked the characters) or Midwich Cuckoos might be a good fit.
