My grandparents did cook like this everyday. Sunday was just the time for 3 meats instead of one. But we had fatback with almost every meal. Chicken daily. Fish on Fridays and like I said Sunday was ham chicken stewed beef or dumplin's fatback and a bunch of side dishes. Mac and Cheese is a side dish. I'm a Gen Xer.

Let me explain this to everyone who is not Black or doesn’t have southern roots... Black Eyed Peas & Collard Greens are traditionally cooked for dinner on New Years Day with your protein of choice (I prefer pork chops). The black eyed peas represent change and collard greens represent paper money/dollars. The meal is to represent financial prosperity mostly in era after slavery.

Cornbread is delicious by itself. It's when people put shit in the cornbread I have problems with. Corn in cornbread get that outta here. No. Smh. No. Someone had the nerve to put corn and celery or green pepper in the cornbread. I forget which green vegetable but you don't do that to cornbread. It ruined my whole meal because I was craving that cornbread when I saw it thinking it was normal.

I'm from Texas...pecan is our state tree...you gotta make it with extra pecans so the syrup isn't overpowering. pecan pie is def one of my favorites when made right
