Me and my mates snuck in to one of their final tours concerts at the bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth when I was 16 in 86 absolutely iconic performance and setting.

Here’s mine. Top 3 are no brainers for me. True Colours is a masterpiece. For me the 77 to 82 era is the best. 1. True Colours 2. Time and Tide 3. Waiata 4. Frenzy 5. Dizyrhtmia 6. Second Thoughts 7. Mental Notes 8. See Ya Round 9. Conflicting Emotions

Ouch conflicting emotions at bottom,I'm conflicted about that 😂. Great list number 1 obviously,it's a fight over 2 and 3 for me. Yes 4 is right on. Pity see ya round doesn't end after 5 songs

Hi Lloyd, this was an excellent video! I really learnt a lot. I saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon in Sept 1980 on the True Colours tour. I must say they were excellent, superb gig. I’ve always liked them but only own about 3 albums. Great Video Lloyd! Mike

Hi Mike, they must have been sublime live back then for sure. i have seen the Brothers Finn in one form or another "(split enz/crowded house/solo or as a duo) every tour they have been on here since around 1983ish and i have lost count how many times ive seen them, always great live whatever they do IMO. thanks for watching and commenting mate- Lloyd

Nice rundown Lloyd. I have 2 Split Enz albums, Mental Notes (totally bonkers but I do enjoy it!) and Conflicting Emotions which couldn't be more different. Their trajectory sort of reminds of ELO, with the really whacky and experimental prog stuff early on and the radio-friendly hits later on. Rob Walker named 'Mental Notes' as the worst album he'd ever heard a few years back, which I found quite funny. Split Enz records don't seem to appear much in the wild in the UK. Strange to think that Neil Finn ended up in Fleetwood Mac.

Hi James, sorry mate, i just missed your comment for some strange reason. i think the ELO trajectory is just about perfect, i'll use that one myself in future. i remember reading somewhere years and years ago that Mick Fleetwood and Neil Finn became friends back in the 1980s when Mick purchased his first home in NZ (he later purchased more in NZ and Aussie east coast). any Split Enz album is worth getting IMO as there are gems on all of them. Crowded House and Neil's solo work is very good too so if you ever find something, buy it as you wont regret it - Lloyd

I'm going to give this a shot. I'm leaving Second Thoughts off because on the states, it was basically Mental Notes.: 1. Dizyrhtmia 2. Mental Notes 3. Waiata 4. Time and Tide 5. Conflicting 7. Frenzy 8. True colors 9. See Ya round

Mental Notes has always been my favourite ENZ album. Their early live shows were amazing and rank up with the best I have seen. Frenzy is also excellent but does suffer with a muddy sound, could have been mixed better. My interest did start to wane with True Colours and I still cannot get into it. I think Phil Judd and Tim Finn were like oil and water with each other, both had egos and other issues but still made great music in the short time they were together. Both Finn albums are quite good. Good to see some love for the ENZ. Reply
