Bradford Ellington it’s because Kelly had a few callups back with the cardinals and struggled while this was smith’s first year at the big league level which makes mark think that his potential is much higher than Kelly, it’s like when he put Tatis really high on his shortstop list while Anderson was below him

Molina used to be the best defensive catcher in baseball, but he was only a bit above average last season. 2 DRS, caught just 27% of runners trying to steal on him (26% is average), .8 dWAR.

@@noahwright8109 Yadier Molina is sporting a 1 E behind the plate and not one catcher nominated for GG was under 7 E. He was robbed. Being good at catching is not about batting at all. And has little to do with throwing guys out. You can throw guys out all day long if you can't block the ball you can't catch. I think 1 E is above average.

I dont think you gave Roberto Petez enough credit he was 5th in Homeruns and 12th in hits that with the fact that he is one of the better defensive catchers should merit a top 15 finish

Sam Laikin it’s percentages that matter. Somebody that played one game but got 4 home runs is likely better than somebody who played in 162 but got 5 home runs. Obviously not close to the example, but making hyperbole to explain the point. Also, Oman indians fan born and bred, love Perez and I think he should be ranked higher, but your reasons are flawed

I get what you are saying John Wayne but for catcher percentages are not as useful because of the varying amount of playing time. For example Mitch Garver had some of the best hitting percentages for any catcher this year but he had 70 less at bats than Roberto and was still ranked above. Because of the physical toll it takes to play the position everyday catchers so be higher then some "platooon" catchers like what happen in Minnesota.No disrespect to Garver ofcourse I just think workload should have more value.

Sam Laikin yes, I agree, and stamina/durability is important too, but if you take away durability and amount of playing time into the list, and look purely on playing ability, the numbers aren’t good to look at

Yadi is a amazing defensive catcher and the only reason he isn’t hitting is because his body is worn down... he came back from injury and him being fresh was the best hitter in the mlb for 2 weeks if u don’t watch cardinals baseball you will not understand how valuable and good yadi is

I agree he definitely over blew Sanchez’s defensive ability he’s not good at blocking (although he improved dramatically) but he’s got a cannon for an arm and his framing ability is not that bad he’d done better highlighting his injury history over that

David Baer Don’t be Wolters is a great defender but he offers very little at the plate. He had a good stretch where he hit around .300 before the all-star break but after that he fell apart at the plate. He’s better off in a platoon role with an offensive catcher. Which is why it pisses me off that Bridich isn’t looking for a catcher this offseason to fill that role.

I’d still take a way past prime Molina over Kelly any day. Bats for way higher average in 100 more ABs, and with what happens behind the plate there’s no comparison.

You misread my comment. I’m saying a 2019 “way past prime” Molina is preferable to Kelly. By what measure is Kelly “by far” the better catcher? HRs? He batted .245 to Molina’s .270 in 100 fewer ABs. I’d still go with Molina over a catcher who can’t hit .250

@@timothygauss7893 Suzuki is still an average level defender, and Molina is only slightly above average (he has a weak arm, average framing). Their defense is pretty close, but Suzuki's batting stats are far superior. His OPS is almost 100 points higher, and Yadier Molina's OPS+ is 84, meaning that he is a below-average MLB hitter. I'm honestly surprised he made it to the top 15, because there are arguments for Vasquez or Perez to be ranked above him.

I love how this guy shows all highlight clips but when he gets to Gary Sanchez he shows him dropping pitches and not blocking balls. Anyone else notice that?? He is such a massive Yankee hater. He’s going to be mad when they win the championship next year.
