Color splash is the one game where I’m OK with fighting the koopalings. The reason is all of their boss fights are fun in my opinion and they actually have a personality in this game which is something the new super Mario Bros series can only dream about. Also all of their themes when you fight them are absolute bops
Some people don’t know that the giant spiny is optional… you can run from the fight and walk around the spiny to get the paint star, there is some funny dialogue that the spiny says you are cheating.
Ok apparently a lot of people don’t know, and there’s no video I have seen yet that does it…a speedrun probably has it, but I don’t watch Paper Mario Speedruns
i think larry should at least be at number 3 it puts up a great challenge has great side objectives and it gives him great build up as the train hijacker
Lemmy had a really cool concept. But now that I watch this video, I realize how his fight was kinda sub-par. Also, not really surprised with Black Bowser being first, it’s really one of the best Fights in the paper Mario games for how original and fun it is. Great video as always.
Not gonna lie, I kind of liked color splash. Imagine if every boss is like the steak. Steak just existed out of nowhere. The legion of stationary had personalities, amazing themes, fun fights, they are memorable characters, king ollys guards just like count blecks minions. Btw I suggested a flat mate video on George Marionerds channel
Personally my least favorite fight in the game was Ludwig because unlike the others, all you do is use the same card repeatedly until he reaches his "Thing card" phase. And once that done , he has half of his health gone, which make the fight even easier. It just felt boring to me how I constantly have to use the exact same item to avoid the exact same attack.
I can see that actually being a valid point for someone not to like the fight, for me personally though I feel like there are simpler fights in the game but I can see where your coming from with that
Don't let the animation of Mario returning to normal to attack fool you, as the Raccoon form lasts as long as you take damage. Plus every enemy he summons can be counterattacked with the Tail swing as they attack from the side, meaning that, if you were able to skip turns to not use cards, you only need 1 card for 3 turns
@@Mymy_64 I was actually trying to reinforce your opinion. Since you technically just need 1 card the fight just feels even more boring. Like yeah, you have to learn the timing of the Tail swing and the cannonballs but the are very easy to learn
Something I only just realized about the color splash bosses that the color of the koopaling's wand actually correlates to the paint star they're protecting (Morton has a red wand, Iggy has yellow, etc.), The only exception is Roy, who has a black wand, but he is found in Bowser's black paint factory.
Just a reminder that black paint bowser makes another appearance in the Mario series In bowsers fury’s credits it’s revealed that fury bowser was created when bowser got covered in black paint from bowser jrs paint brush meaning that paper Mario things are in the main line games
"I like that when you jump on him when he's not knocked over he'll eat you" Hmm... I really liked fights like Kamek and Petea who don't require specific things to beat, those are much more fun, and feel more fair and challenging without the instawin thing cards. But I did also really like the Larry fight because of its challenging nature, and that it features one of the only brave, darisay badass Toads ever, as he's willing to actively fight for Mario, along the very hazardous and very cool setting of the top of a moving train. Then again Lemmy's my least favourite because not only is the two thing thing annoying but it's also the fight that consistently would crash my faulty copy of the game. Lemmy forced me to buy a new copy...
In my eyes, Color Splash has some of the best battles in the Paper Mario series. They all truly feel distinct from each other in fun and interesting ways.
Our ranking: 13. Black Shy Guy. Ok, two things. 1. Just use a thing and he's gone. 2. They really could've chosen a better name, like Shy Ninja, but they had to go with "Black Shy Guy" 12. Big Spiny. Literally just a big spiny. At least his name actually makes sense 11. Peatea Piranha. Sure, he's really cool, and was not expecting him to be in the game, but overall he's just kind of forgettable. 10. Wendy. Kinda contraversial, but she's just boring. Sure, her attacks go to the music, and her coin attacks give you coins, but having to be required to fully complete Snifit or Whifit is just..... bullcrap. 9. Kamek. He's pretty cool, but WHY DOES HE HAVE TO STEAL YOUR CARDS?! The only reason he's not lower is because after this fight there aren't any more battles involving Kamek. Unfortunately, he's battled near the end of the game, so there's not much of a point. 8. Big Lava Bubble. 3 words: Poor Shy Guy 7. Larry. Compared to the character development the other Koopalings got, he may as well speak in a monotone. It's a shame too, because he had a lot of potential. 6. Black Bowser. Again, he's really cool, but the same case with Black Shy Guy but worse. Of all the things they could've called him, they called him Black Bowser? Seriously? 5. Roy. A great boss fight, but who just has like, 50 prepainted cards at all times? 4. Iggy. Really cool boss, and it was awesome how they incorporated his Chain Chomp from the New Super Mario Bros games. Feel like they made the bone thing a bit too obvious though. 3. Ludwig. Great Koopaling, great theme, great fight, but being required to use a Tanuki Suit is....dumb. 2. Lemmy. This might be the latest Lemmy's ever been battled in a Mario game. Anyways, his theme is amazing, his fake out ball is really unexpected, and who would've thought he loves disco? The only problem is... the card stealing. 1. Morton. Literally pure comedy gold. He speaks like Hulk, his theme is literally called "Me Will Rock Me", and that "Leston" pun at the end is just icing on the cake. Then again, if you don't have a sense of humor, Morton would be the worst boss.
Here is my tier list: 12.Big spiny:Color splash is my favorite game in the series(come @ me),but if I didn’t even remember this boss…then that explains why. 11.Lava bubble:same reasons as what you mentioned 10.Iggy,now this is where I like the bosses, and even do I had the same scenario as you,the boss when you do have the bone is actually fun. 9.Larry,same reasons as what you said. 8.Morton….I really like this fight, but since it’s the first it’s OK 7.Kamek:it’s fine I guesse 6.Wendy….I hate to say this but…THE MUSIC IS SOOO GOOD!compared to the other bosses do…it doesn’t fair well. 5.Roy…MUSIC=GREAT-BOSS=GREAT-HOW TO BEAT=FANTASTIC 4.Petey pirhana,i love pirhana plants in general, this fight is so great that I wish Petey pirhana could become your ally like kamek and the koopalings. 3:Lemmy….I don’t get why you don’t like this boss. You talked about it having 2 thing cards which is a bad thing?one of them is literally in the room before the boss fight.the other one is easily gotten with the wringer.the music is fire, the battle is great. 2.Ludwig.same reasoning as yours. 1BLACK BOWSER! I hope you won’t come @ me with your stupid “TTYD iS bEtTeR tHeN CoLoR sPLaSh”and thx for reading this. TRUE NUMBER 1:MEAT IS SO GOOD THAT IT MAKES A CAMEO IN ORIGAMI KING.
You know that’s a good point for Lemmy, I guess I don’t like that it isn’t clear at all what to do, but at least you do have the 2 thing cards, which is probably why it’s lower than Morton because that boss only uses 1 and it’s obvious which one to use
@@ShroobInvader hmmmmm….that’s a fair point…the ice pick is quit easy to figure out and the disco ball a bit harder.however, the fact you just found the disco ball must mean something of importance.also I’ve just realized I wasn’t suscribed to your channel so I am know :)
Shroob Invader... I have something to tell you. There is a youtuber who beat Stickerstars final boss with NO-thing cards, no Kersti, and no infinite-jumps. It is possible, it is just very long and difficult.
@@ShroobInvader he did it for every single boss, so it is very much possible. It just requires a crap ton of Iron Jumps, Hammers, Multi-jumps, Pow Blocks, and Shiny Mushrooms.
I for one love color splash. Almost all the locations in the game have something interesting in them that make them memorable. The music is amazing and this is the only game where I am actually OK with fighting the koopalings because they actually have a personality this time. Not to mention it is the funniest paper Mario game. I do wish not all the characters for toads and I do wish they showed it’s at abrasional designs but I can live with them looking generic. I love everything about this game…… except the battle system. The battle system in this game is not good and having to use a Specific thing card to be almost all the bosses in the game is really annoying. And I think I speak for almost everyone when I say color splash (and origami king) would be 10 times better if it didn’t have a battle system and all the enemies were just overworld enemies (although I do actually really like the boss fights and origami king). But in the end I still love this game. I do wish the story was a little more interesting but in the end there’s nothing really wrong with the story so it’s fine (except for the part where everyone chooses to ignore that Bowser is possessed. I hate that so much). The sad thing is most people never even played this game which is why I’m sad I didn’t come out on switch word actually would’ve had a fair shot
I l beat mrs. throwmp in 15 attacks I am not joking in partners in time and it’s a later boss I like the attacks but I played partners in time a lot of times so I used cannonballers, ice flower, tamploine, and pocket chomps I think it’s the second easiest boss in partners in time. I am so good in partners in time.
If there’s one thing I think Sticker Star got right with its bosses, is that most of them are beatable (Though it takes a lot longer) without Thing Stickers. But here, every major boss except for Bowser is completely, 100% impossible to beat without Thing Cards and it’s pretty annoying. Lemmy is easily the most egregious of this since he requires not one but TWO of them for his battle (Granted one of them is in the room right before his fight, but still).
Big lava bubble is a key example of why people think Mario is an asshole. The only reason he’s attacking you is because Mario broken to his house. I kind of feel bad that after you beat him that he just dies
Honestly I like most of the bosses but Larry just get disappointing. The rest of the orange big paint Star chapter was absolutely phenomenal and nobody shall change my mind, and the boss at the end just felt like such a big letdown. At least Lemmy was fitting for my least favorite chapter.
@@ShroobInvader Yeah I mean I love the buildup to his boss at Tangerino Grill and all the rest of the orange big paint Star levels were awesome and unique but he himself just felt annoying at first and easy after getting the Toad to the Shy Guy
I actually really enjoy the Kamak fight in this game. It’s not Hard but I find it really fun. First of all I think Kamek is really funny and well written in this game so I really liked the scene leading up to the fight. I think him messing with your cards is pretty cool and fun. My only complaint about the fight is that I wish it was a little harder but to be fair most of the bosses in color splash should be harder. But in my opinion the Kamek fight in this game is one of the most underrated bosses in the Mario series
I actually didn’t like his boss fight. The first phase is just refighting old bosses, The second phase you just walk around and mash the a button and the third phase you solve a pretty easy puzzle. I think it’s a very anti-climactic boss fight But that’s just my opinion
I gotta agree with you, obtaining it was hard as hell, but the fight itself was a piece of cake. As soon as I got the thing (after hours of dying and trying) the rest of the game was a cakewalk. I first-tried every other boss from that point on, which goes to show that the Wendy fight was crap.
I can agree with a lot of this list. I do have a big complaint about Roy though, and it’s that you can battle spin for a 1-up card and just cheese the fight, but that wouldn’t affect his placement imo.
Man it sucks that most of these bosses look lame, I don’t think any of them sounded or looked particularly great until like Number 2 on the list, that’s a real bummer since a part of what makes Paper Mario good is boss fights. Still a good ranking and honestly does not give me more hope towards playing Color Splash lmao
You’ve talked once or twice about those before on Flat Mates and I’ll admit they definitely sound better, here’s hoping I like the actual execution of them because that sounds like it’ll be the only saving grace of the game for me (also you aren’t wrong Wendy’s theme sounds awesome)
Oh jeez I hope it’s not a looong build up then, here’s hoping it comes to switch or I manage to borrow a WiiU for it finally so I can judge it fully because I am a bit nervous and unimpressed going in lol
OK so I love color splash but I do have to say that it’s really weird that Bowser Junior isn’t in the game. I mean the game he debuted in was about him covering an island with paint
I’m gonna do my ranking Lava bubble: too easy for where it is Spiny: i don’t know what to say about this one Morton: really easy and not fun to fight in my opinion Iggy: also really easy don’t know what else to say Kamek: really mediocre and not that fun to fight Wendy: I absolutely love sniffit or wiffit so the camera was not a problem and absolutely amazing music Ludwig: the only time the tail is useful and satisfying to see you destroy the ship Roy: also amazing music and cool boss gimmick Peety paranha: bias because I absolutely love peety and his fight is cool too and actually hard Larry: also bias because Larry is my favourite koopaling, I like trains, and the orange mission is my favourite one Lemmy: absolutely amazing music, I don’t know how the heck lemmy made it up here with the music alone but whatever Black paint bowser: cool ending to an ok game
I think we can all agree that their themes were AMAZING, their personalities were GREAT compared to their usual selves, and their battles were MUCH better than their usual battles.
Here's my ranking number 10 the big enemies they're literally just big enemies number 9 kamik I literally think this is just sticker stars but better number 7 Iggy so underwhelming and also the bone thing is the most annoying thing to find on the first playthrough number 6 Morton he's not as underwhelming since he's the first boss of the game but he is still boring also the fire extinguisher is not as annoying to get number 5 Wendy the only thing good about it is the music it's just gooper blooper not original number four Petey piranha it's literally just a copy from sticker star but it is the second best boss sticker star for me so I do have a bias but not much number three black paint Bowser it's a good boss but a bad final boss it's very simple but it's just not the same as other final bosses number two Ludwig and Larry I have the basically same opinion on both fights so it's really hard to separate them Ludwig has a great concept and the enemies are okay I also like his dialogue when calling in the enemies submarine is a downgrade as well as the third phase but it's still a great fight Larry on the other hand does has a worst concept but great gameplay the cork is pretty obvious for me because I know what a cork does cover stuff up I also really like his dialogue like Ludwig's it's just a good quality boss number one Roy I love the concept the music and especially the gameplay I love the paint effects the slow one the fast one the one that makes you only allowed to use blue cards the one that poisons you the one that makes you not allowed to use blue cards I love the concept honorable mention's steak hate it black shy guys boring so boring how do you like my list
i HEAVILY dissagree on the lemmy ranking (im not hating btw) i think lemmy is my favourite bossfight because of how you get to the battle and the battle it self is pretty cool with his ball (dont be sus please) so yeah just thought i would share my opinion
Color splash is definitely better then TTYD,try me. edit:wow….you hearted the comment that I didn’t want you to see….can you check for my other comment here?I ranked the boss in my own way
Eh that’s hard to rank something by funniness mainly because I just think something is funny and move on, I don’t really try to compare the funniness cause that kind of ruins the point of it being funny
I love color splash so much, the ost is out of this world and the dialogs are really funny. The finale boss is so good and I like that the koopalings have a personality. Never liked the old paper marios or stiker star, but color splash is just awsome.
I leave the channel for a while when it had just over 800 subs I come back and take a look to see the progress- *proceeds to have gained over 150 subs*
9:35 another reason I like this boss fight is because she gives you free money if you don't block the coins. But you still want to block the enemies that shes throwing at you.
I would prefer ranking the big Spiny higher than every Koopalings, the fact you have to find a certain thing to fight them is a big disappointment, I stuck so many times during the gameplay and was forced to watch a lot of playthrough on RU-vid, even Sticker Star's bosses are more unique.
@@ShroobInvader Morton became my fav koopaling after I played Color Splash, before battling Morton we get to see his personality of being goofy, but the battle still sucks to me.
7:17 AKA: Being a coward in CS. Another person.😤 I promise you, that when i will play this game, my max paint before fighting Morton will be very high. Like, coward end-game tier max paint.(which is around 350) Just to show how brave i am compared to a lot of peapoe.
