You see, there's a fatal issue in this tier list, and that's that super has gotten MTD'd before. I, however, have never played tank, and therefore have never gotten MTD'd before. I demand my worthy spot as the uncontested never-defeated greatest main tank player of all time.
Super’s got the championship wins, the insane plays, and he’s been carrying the Overwatch scene for literal years. He’s definitely number one in my book
wish super would do a list for each role like plat chat. most of platchats lists have a lot of recency bias, and id like to know a pros perspective for people theyve actually played against and can properly compare
They dont have recency bias, everyone on the pro scene has stated that the level of competition rose each season, teams on season 1 would've been 3-0d spawncamped by season 4 shanghai, the game took years to be completely figured out.
@Jmt1000 I'm not really talking about the tank list as avast even said he did that one more traditionally (i know avast doesnt speak for all of platchat or the overall list but im using him as the example because his list is one people complain about the most). But him putting jjonak 10 for example is recency bias. Also technically super has all the tanks 1 rank lower if he includes himself at #1 so it would change a bit from platchats
@@benjaminsymon5165 the competition being better doesn't mean you put people with 1 good season (in 2021) over people that have had great overall careers in a top 10 all time list. That'd be like putting leave over profit because leave was mvp this year
It makes sense that Supers standards are high ever since he started playing in the league his main tank partner and him were two of the best 5 of each year they played
Can you rank all time players based on their peak dominance? Like as an example, jehong was the best Ana in the world for a long time despite kind of falling off but for that time he was the best by so much. Same with someone like dafran on soldier or Shadowburn on genji. People forget Shadowburn was disgusting back in the day. Also happy you shouted out IDDQD, nobody gives him the respect he earned back in the day. Same with Effect and Miro. Miro was an absolute Gigachad on lunatic hai.
Yea we were talking about this in my discord and I was saying Miro #1 before watching but I thought it was gonna be like a, highest peak compared to the competition kind of list not a current best kind of list
Some players fall off not because they become older or worse, but because the game evolves so much but they cannot follow. I personally think Miro is of that kind. He invented the monkey game, but the newcomers are so much better than him. Jehong at least stayed relevant for a long time in the league compared to Miro.
The tricky thing about ranking "all time" is that competition becomes harder as time goes on. Like Super said, someone who dominated the beta wouldn't make the list because there was no competition. It makes is even more impressive when the actual greats survived at the top for the whole time throughout all the different metas and playstyles. That's why I'd personally put Mano over Gesture; the guy didn't land any big titles but he was always fighting at the top.
Not just because I’m a huge fan of him as a person but I genuinely think Super is the best main tank of all time. Most accomplished and has the most value added consistently.
im honestly suprised no one mentioned Rio. By far the most underrated player of all time. Won a tournament, has been consistent for two years (season four was bad but he didn’t have a support line tbf) and was reliable on every main tank.
lhcloudy would be a perfect 6# on this list, since while he doesnt have that overly competitive vibe to him that tells everyone "I scrim 11 hours a day", but in raw rein gap he just tops everyone else.
I really like how he says he doesnt want to put himself there cuz of ego etc, and in the middle of making the tier list he goes like maybe I am just too high so I cant really tell if they deserve the sixth place xD
smurf is not only the best main tank that has ever graced the world of overwatch, but also the G.O.A.T. altogether all roles included, the best overwatch player in history
well I agree, Super is the best, but I remember one time someone asked him why he wasn´t playing in the team and Smurf was, and Super with no laugh said he is better and added nothing else, and it was just when I started watching him, so all this time I was thinking Super thinks that Smurf is better. wtf
He was probably serious to an extent. In many comps (specifically dive comps and arguably double shield) smurf is better so that could’ve been what he is saying. super in no way thinks that anyone is above his rein and hog tho lol.
Gator was the mind behind goats, I think he understands the game better than alot of main tanks even if he can be weaker mechanically than some of these other guys. I like gator at 6. Good list.

I think at the moment he is definitely the best rein in the league but I think his ball, orisa and winston need work which explains why they used smurf for those comps. If your going for best main tank of all time I think you have to include flexibility and since he's just not quite as good on the other heroes I couldn't personally have him as number 1 main tank
jokes aside, even IF super isn't the #1, and as much as stats and observing the audience can do, I'm pretty sure the professionals and the players know more about the skills of what it takes to be in the top 10 main tanks. This list is all-time performances in official matches, and we only get the perspective of that, but they've played scrims together, and have devised tactics against one another, so in turn they know more shit than we do

He's great on Rein but this is purely on OWL level. Cloudy was just played as a Rein specialist, he never really mained the role. (Kinda like super after GOATS where he just played orisa/rein but then he practiced and became even better as a main tank player)
Hes a rein 1 trick whos only known for his rein against non rein comps because he is good at that in ranked through a very weird and impossible for anyone else to replicate playstyle of basically playing rein in the backline and forcing cooldowns on himself so his team can pop off. his actual rein duels are nothing special for a main tank
I admit that accolades should count because if not mano would win The fact he was on NY being a silent Carry for so many seasons while getting minimal resources and able to contend against teams built around their main tank says something
I agree with the Sado rating, if anything I think he should be below Gamsu. Sado could pop off but he needed a team to put everything into him to do it otherwise he flopped. Gamsu was never flashy but you could put him into any team and you'd guarentee the tank line would hold its own. If there were more seasons for main tanks to exist in Gaga would make the top 10 for sure, I'd expect the same of Muze too but honestly it's not saying much when there's a lot of mediocrity in the role.

Flats is a ladder-rat main tank. Man’s wouldn’t even qualify for overwatch league fr. So he’s wayyyy off in narnia with this tier list. Ladder rats like us just cannot compare.
