Ranking the Hellraiser Franchise (w/ Hellraiser 2022) 

Really liked the 2022 reboot! Hopefully means we'll have plenty more sights to see in the near future

Hellraiser 3 was actually really decent. I never got the hate for it. I enjoyed it !

I actually just finished the hellraiser movie on my Hulu account, and I’m so glad that they didn’t squander our suffering.

I feel like part 5 Inferno is really good and underrated! Its my favorite in the franchise besides 1 and 2

I'm 45. I remember when Inferno came out. That movie was great. It was so original. Not what I was expecting. Loved the end. I thought the characters were fine. You're not supposed to like the main character. That was the point. But each to their own.

Great ranking Cody! I agree with you. New film was pretty damn good! Loved the look and tone of Pinhead and the other Cenobites. The new film had some interesting angles to it, such as the house being an actual puzzle trap, the style of the puzzle box and how it configured, the ground opening up to reveal the labyrinth beneath and so on.

Confession time: I’ve actually never seen any of the Hellraiser films. So I’ll see what to check out first based on this list.

I definitely agreed with you on a lot about what you said about all the Hellraiser movies since a few of them weren't the best or even the best. What I do agree with you on is having the first Hellraiser at Number one since your able to Appreciate it and to love it as one of those classes.

I’m a Bloodlines fan the future setting worked because it was a true final outing for Pinhead.

Enjoyed the new one more than I expected. Agree on the shots of the walls and floor opening. Couldnt tell on some if it was cgi or old school camera trickery. Very well done. Not sure exactly where it lands since its still too new, but top 3 for sure

Inferno is in my top 5 lol I definitely do agree with you about Revelations. Though it is still at the bottom of my list I do appreciate that the script was written to be a Hellraiser movie and actually included the original lore. I can appreciate that at the very least. Bloodline could have been so good if the studio had just left it alone. They really ruined the movie to the point the director disowned it and put Alan Smithee as the director because they basically ruined what the movie even was meant to be.

The reason I love Hellraiser 2 over 1 is because 2 shows all the best of part 1 and is faster paced and interesting. I loved The reboot.

I *love* the first half of Hellraiser 2. The atmosphere is great, the aspects of the occult, sex, and fantastical horror is all VERY Clive Barker. I agree that it starts to fall apart with the Dr Kennard cenobite.

Came out of watching Hellraiser '22 feeling it's right up there in quality with the original. I think I even like it just a little bit better, honestly-but I'm also first to admit I don't have the nostalgia feels for this franchise that a lot of horror fans seem to have.

Well, at least there's 5 Hellraiser films I love now instead of 4. The first 4 and this new one are all great to good/ok. The rest are just a slap in the face to a genuine long time fan like me, and the 2% of us Hellraiser fans out there. But great ranking none the less.

Legit ranking. Nice. I'm one of those "Hellbound:Hellraiser II is best" folks so I wouldn't complain if there's a switch between II and III on your list. But III was definitely entertaining. And Hellraiser 2022 is so good. The new take on the Cenobites, oh my!

Did you know at the end of Freddy vs Jason it was rumored that Pin Head would make a cameo in hell while Freddy and Jason continue to duke it out gladiator style during the end scene.

I've always fancied the idea of a Phantasm/Hellraiser cross over movie. Done well it could kick ass!

The nightclub scene in Hellraiser 3 was actually directed by Clive Barker…

With 3 you also get John Bush the singer from Anthrax with his old band Armored Saint.

I will say as far as major horror series go, none went over a cliff as quick as this one. On a side note, when it comes to the new one, I love how they treated the box. It always seemed way too easy to open in the previous films.

I'm planning on watching the new one tonight but for now I definitely prefer to watch the first two as one long movie. If I had to pick it would be hellraiser 2.

I agree, the reboot was solid! Not a home run for me, but then again, none of the Hellraiser movies are a home run lol, but a solid double!

I adore Hellraiser 1 and 3. I really really like 2 and 4. I really like HR 2022. I like Judgement. I think the rest are meh, I don't hate any of them, they're alright, but I also can't really say I "like" any of them, I just don't dislike any of them.

It's funny how this movie came out the year that the first Hellraiser movie is celebrating its 35th Anniversary.

I think I commented on your review of Inferno but Craig Sheffer who plays the lead character in that is from my hometown 😂. My high school drama teacher had a signed headshot of him that he sent her because she had him as a student probably 20 years or so before I had her.

I think you underestimate the greatness of Hellbound and the awfulness of revelation!

Inferno (“5”) - inevitably not good, overall tolerable bad (excluding the main character) 7. Revelations (“9”) - interesting moments and ideas, but cheap and not fully thought out. Tolerable bad for me. 6. Deader (“7) - mediocre “bad” for me. Watchable, but doesn’t fully work. 5. Hell on Earth (3) - Decent fun time, even with some clunky pacing and writing moments. 4. Hellraiser (1) - really good. 3. Hellbound (2) - great. 2. Bloodline (4) - almost excellent for me. I thought this one was the best made overall (for the original timeline), even with the studio meddling. 1. Hellraiser 2022 - one of my favorite horror movies

I have to disagree with your comments here and on your Hellraiser 2022 review. You keep saying that the cenobites are the star of the film. I would say more accurately that the focus is on the puzzle box. The cenobites are still very much background characters, and they barely get any screen time 8n the first half of the film. I watched your review before I saw the film and was, not let down but, disappointed that we barely catch sight of Pinhead for some time. It is a good film for sure, and I love the focus on the puzzle box . .. just a slightly misleading review from your part. I’m always shocked when I see hellraiser inferno at the bottom of lists and Hellraiser 3 or. 8 so high hahahaha. It’s also common for reviewers to say “of this script was never meant to be a hellraisers film”. Well isn’t that most movies that get made. Most die hard movies were repurposed scripts or books. But it seems to be popular to say a script was repurposed for hellraiser and have that be a bad thing. To me it’s just , a thing. Just part of the production process. Hellraiser 5 you are right has a despicable protagonist… but again, so do most of the films. It’s “hellraiser” after all. The new film had a very flawed protagonist. What makes her and the guy from inferno work for me his how well they played their parts. I don’t need the lead to be goody two shoes.

Hellraiser is a good franchise. Some of the movies are better than others. Hellraiser 3 is a good.movie. I have not seen the reboot. I plan to see it. The first movie is hard to compete with.

Alright, I been wanting to talk to someone about this with no one to talk to about this. Am I the only one on initial viewing, thought Hellraiser 2022 was boring? I definitely think it is a good film, and I thought it was done really well. But it wasn’t as gory as I was expecting AT ALL. It drug on a little too long. And I personally didn’t like some of the changes in the lore, especially with the puzzle box it self. Although I did enjoy some changes. I definitely would rank it #4 if I would rank them, almost tying it with 3. But for me the first 2 were definitely a lot more interesting. Definitely plan on re-watching. But as of now, I don’t get the absolute love for this movie as with people saying it’s top 2. I would like to see a sequel though. I personally think most people are used to horrible Hellraiser films, this one got over hyped because it’s actually decent. This is just my personal opinion.

I just watched the newest one about 10 minutes ago and I would put it right next to the original as my favourite of the franchise there’s so much that they do in hellraiser 2022 that works so well from the gory to the character design even the plot is good too even tho the first act is a bit slow I can get through it. I would have this probably as my favourite horror movie of the year with Nope at 2 X at 3 deadstream at 4 and the watcher at 5 now I haven’t seen terrifier 2 yet but I am pretty sure that once I do it’s going to be in my top 5.

The ranking was pretty spot on up until the new Hellraiser ranked at 2. There’s no way in Hell that boring, generic, teen-like slasher film belongs there. The first four films are the flesh and chains of the Hellraiser experience. Everything that’s came after is just a cash crab.

Finished watching it early this morning and it was gnarly as hell for 2022. 2, 2022, 1, 3,4, Judgement, Hellraiser: Hellworld would be my list.

Love inferno. My favourite after the first 1, 2 and 4 - 3 is okay. I agree that The twist is god awful though. All the others I have little time for tbh. Excited to watch the new one.

I watch Hell Raiser l & ll Together as ONE. After that parts Bloodline . 1700 period . After that I don't bother. I actually like the reboot. They did a great job. Looking forward to future releases. It's Fresh . Jamie nailed it.

Putting a movie at number six for having nothing to do with the franchise and admittedly being a movie so bad its hilarious is just wild asf to me.

My ranking is the same with the exception of Inferno and Hellseeker being switched. I hated what they did with Kirsty, and I think I liked the cinobites in Inferno just I pinch more.

I agree Pinhead hasn't really been handled that well at all which is a shame. Since Pinhead is it one of the most terrifying and scariest fictional characters of all time in my opinion

Just watched the new film and had an absolute blast. My ranking: 1 Hellraiser 2 Hellbound 3 Hellraiser 2022 4 Hell On Earth 5 Judgement 6 Bloodline I hated bloodline so much I basically gave up on the franchise. Only watched Judgement out of morbid curiosity. For me only my top 3 capture the spirit of the book and are truly great movies. Although I enjoy Hell on Earth as a dumb fun movie.
