The only criticism I have for UAC Atlantica is that I can't save my game mid-level unless I start the whole DLC over from the beginning, and I don't usually have enough time to play a map that long start to end!
Honestly cultist base is super underrated. You get some cool new weapons, a unique revenant section, one of my personal favorite tracks in the game, and seeing so much snow in a doom game is really cool.
21:46 I did a run where I intentionally skipped every weapon I could to make it harder (even the chainsaw, using a barrel jump) and I thought it was really cool that this isn't *just* an animation. If you don't have the plasma rifle, this animation still adds it to your gun inventory.
Oh wow that is cool. Sweet that the devs thought of that. Huge props for doing that challenge run too. I thought about it but realized that would mean excluding nearly all your weapons besides the shotgun and ballista. I wouldn't dream of skipping the chainsaw either. I'm good at Eternal but not THAT good lol.
Update: The Taras Nabad Master Level just came out and it's awesome, super creative and challenging arena design. Probably my favorite level they've made so far. It seems ID is listening to my request from near the end of the video lol-Alex
Man I remember fighting marauder for the first time dreading how hard he was supposed to be only to win first try. Then 2 years later absolutely clowning on him when playing the, surprisingly very good, Nintendo switch version. Doom Eternal is weird
Lots of neat hidden stuff like that, I love it too. Did you know that in The World Spear there's a sword in the first snowy area (only spawns after you unlock fast travel at the very end of the level) that you can interact with that spawns in 5 mauraders at once?
@@Cytonox sadly yes, it was spoiled to me while I was looking for doom eternal news. On one hand, this is just awesome on the other hand I’m sad that I spoiled it for me. Imagine finding that by accident xd I hope Hugo builds this into the DLC ML, this would be on par with the TAG1 double marauder reveal, except even more horrifying. I’m thinking the arena with the escalation encounter, where the marauders all spawn across the whole arena with screechers and maybe a cursed prowler or spirit possessed imp. If u try to hammer a marauder, you’ll set of screechers, if you try and blood punch the cursed prowler, you’ll trigger a screecher and if you kill that possessed imp, you run the risk of that spirit ending up in a Marauder.
@@thetruepostaldude9980 Diabolical idea lol. Hugo said in a recent video I watched that he heard someone suggested a possessed cursed prowler and that alone sounds pretty nuts. I suppose we can expect that in the dlc 2 ML's
@@Cytonox Whenever those will happen, I mean Taras Nabad has been delayed, which for me is 666 levels of disappointment, but hopefully we will now get ML‘s at a faster rate than one per a year. And it’s not like ML are the only thing they are working on either, from unreleased gamemodes likely tied to ML‘s, to Battlemode 2.0, to maybe Invasion Mode, if that will ever even still happen and hasn’t been canned outride thx to COVID. I just hope we get some announcements at E3 or Quakecon or Xbox‘s event on the 13th, just anything man. Content droughts suck for both creators and players alike T_T

The only thing i really dont like about exultia is the limited equipment you have at that point on my first nightmare mode i legit failed the slayer gate like 17 times and it definitely had me reconsidering my life choices
The Exultia slayer gate can actually be pretty manageable with the right mods. I'd recommend the Sticky bombs and Heat blast for the waves of fodder, and Micro missiles to deal targeted damage to the Revenants and Dread Knights. Micro Missiles are your biggest source of damage at that point in the game, with Full Auto being a good finisher if you're daring lol.
The Holt is still kicking my ass as we speak. Currently on the cacodemon/possessed hell night area. The electricity will fuck up your health real quick and there isn't much room to move around in

THANK YOU for your praise of Urdak/The Holt, I think that corrupted heaven concept is so fucking cool, and seeing a consistent meh mentality toward it in the community has always surprised me. The difficulty of TAG 1 requiring a genuine combat loop mastery will always be one of my favorite decisions iD has ever made, and I'll forever cherish restarting UAC Atlantica a million times during my ultra nightmare runs. Perfect list.
I’m so glad that they (mostly) designed all the post launch singleplayer content for the top players. It makes it way more memorable, and the satisfaction of actually beating TAG 1 on UN was insane. I still can’t beat the super gore nest master level on UN, which is a testament to how hardcore that level is. Some day perhaps I’ll take it down
@@Cytonox yes they were hard, however there is one frustrating arena in Arc Complex, the next big fight after the slayer gate. It has a power up but my god was it a pain. I spent hours on nightmare trying to pass it, always dying stupidly towards the end. The next arenas were cool and couldn't wait for the fight with the marauder.
I feel like I can show people this to help explain to people why I love doom so much, and you weren't even talking about the lore or the COMBAT It just goes to show how much the team cared and what amazing work they did 👏 Also nice video, I don't agree with with some of your choices on rank but I can understand where you're coming from for everything, and it was vary entertaining
Correct me if I'm wrong but The Blood Swamps isn't the first level on the DLC for the ancient gods, it's the second level. The first level is UAC Atlantica

Great vid! Thanks for including the levels' music during their section. I haven't played or listened to Eternal in a while so this was a really nice trip down memory lane. I hear you on Arc Complex feeling too long... I felt exhausted and stressed when I first played that level too. The reason why is because the majority of the fights happen before you reach the first turret tower. Seriously. There's only one major underground arena before the second tower, and then just the parking garage fight before the Marauder fight. I wish the fights were more evenly split between the first and second tower paths, as to make your progress feel more tangible and better paced. 21:56 I hate to "um actually" but there's another falling elevator section in Eternal at the start of Arc Complex. I think there's one in 2016 too after you get the BFG in that game lol. You're not alone, idk what it is, but something about being in a falling elevator is very...exhilarating to say the least haha. Urdak and the Holt are phenomenal. Hats off to id Software for the amazing immersive experiences. I prefer Urdak's turquoise color scheme as opposed to the Holt's purplish one, then again the Holt does have the forests of red trees. Idk how but I absolutely NEED to experience more of the Maykr world, whether it's in The Dark Ages coming in 2025 or some other supplemental material. The Maykrs were my favorite aspect of Eternal's lore and I desperately want more of Urdak.
If I have one criticism of Doom Eternal it's that Exlultia/Cultist Base/Doom Hunter Base is just a brutal stretch of the 3 worst levels in the game back to back to back at a critical time when the game needs to be engaging you to push through to the end. I think it's a huge reason why a lot of 2016 fans didn't finish Eternal. Was not expecting them to be ranked so high, I don't see much to like in them since they have very un-Doom like aesthetics and frustrating combat with a limited arsenal. I would honestly have Arc Complex and Final Sin near the top of my list. The Hell on Earth theme is gorgeous and those levels really take advantage of an apocalyptic earth at night.
I agree with you. UAC Alantcia Facility is the best level as well and Doom Eternal is also my all time favourite game. I've got a lot of Doom merchandise and stuff too but I think you have me topped there.
My favorite level is the world spear. The unique design and the cutscenes and the dragon and the snowy portion are all awesome. One of the reasons why TAG2 is my fav part of the game.
7:45 - doesn't make any sense to not have Marauder as a "boss" encounter. As you say by everyone wanting him nerfed, he needs a dedicated space to learn his patterns and try grapple with how to actually fight him without the other demons around in later combat encounters. Much more important on the first playthrough as a game design necessity beyond any story justification.
I have no idea how could you rank urdak and holt so high in the list, easily my least favourite levels of the game (not sayin they are bad, but replaying them is boring as hell, mostly cuz of the slower and lighter soundtrack which feels pretty weak compered to rest of the game in my opinion)
the cool thing in exultia is a secret entry door from DOOM 1993 and DOOM 2. when you encounter the first time the falling platforms you have to go right to find it, pretty cool, rite
Anyone else think whoever was assigning the music tracks to the different levels really missed a trick by reprising "Hell On Earth" for Final Sin instead of "The Only Thing They Fear Is You"? It's way too good a riff and way too good a track to just be a one-off even in a long level --and I think it woulda made all those rooftops feel a little bit nicer. And, you know, that's actually my biggest criticism of the game. :D
Watching this vid ,makes me truly worried for the pain that will be the rest of the game, btw i started on the 3rd dificulty setting thinking that i was used to fps that much...now i am having a terrible time to pass levels but its ALL FUN,just wander wen i will finish the game with all dlcs,this is truly revolutionary half life style !
I am playing this jewel on third dificulty and its the hardest game i ever played,the extra buttons for the shoulder cannon,punch and chainsaw is confusing me as to get the handle of this 5 star game. P.s. prob the best game of the last years,loved doom 2016 but this one is on another real high level....PERFECT!!

Great video, Guys! Doom Eternal was an enjoyable experience and among my favorite FPS games of the generation. I was curious whether you two have played Dusk. It's an indie FPS game from 2018 that pays homage to classic shooters like Blood, Quake, and Doom. I didn't have very high expectations when I bought it, but it completely blew me away. It's split over three episodes (like some of the classic shooters), and I actually think each one improves upon the last. The maps start off more grounded and run-of-the-mill, but a lot of the later levels (especially in the second half of the game) are among the most creative and awe-inspiring I've ever seen in the genre. The graphics are about on par with Quake (which might turn some people off), but the gameplay is very smooth, there's an assortment of useful weapons, and the enemy variety is spectacular. Additionally, the soundtrack was composed by Andrew Hulshult, which is a bonus. I won't say anything more to avoid spoiling anything, but I think this game would be right up your alley and highly recommend it if you're interested.
Jack here, I’ve actually never heard of it before. I loved Doom Eternal and it’s one of my favorite games, and Dusk sounds quite intriguing so I’ll definitely check it out!
@@Cytonox Yeah, Dusk really flew under the radar. I didn't hear about it, myself, until over a year after its full release, and it just looked like a generic retro-style FPS game at first sight. I was amazed how great it was, though. Anyway, I enjoy your videos, and I think you guys deserve way more attention than you receive!
@@rpgfan1187 Alex here, I love Dusk, I've played a good deal of it. The whole New Blood collective is super good at what they do and I dig their stuff. The setting of dusk is great and thats probably my favorite part of it. The soundtrack is great too, Skinwalker is probably my favorite track from it. Glad you liked the video too!
7:36 Boy I remember the memes when Eternal was fresh released about how broken Marauder was, and now I just finish the poor dude in ARC in about 20 seconds or so (in Nightmare he's a lot more erratic and takes longer than usual to execute his green eye axe attack). I find it rather disappointing that they didn't make ARC Complex Master level have at least two Marauders in that final combat but whatever
Laughed a little when he said he had the soundtrack. Considering we pretty much never got an actual good one from Id or Bethesda and they won't let mick release his own music for some reason
Well, I have the lossless digital copy they sent out with the collectors edition. It is super weird that they won’t let Mick put it on spotify, literally nobody sided with Bethesda so at this point I feel like it’s pointless for them to keep bothering with saving face.
The master level for it is pretty crazy, definitely ramped up the difficulty to what I expected going in with that. I wasn’t really counting the master levels as a factor in my rankings so as is I still don’t care a ton for base world spear but I can see why someone would like it more than I do
@@Cytonox they did add enemies to a bunch of encounters, and rew9rked the imp round near the fountain, the level got a bit better, but the changes wouldve only brought it up a space or two for ya
3:27 I have a very good idea of where the t e n t i c l e s are located and I’ve only played up to ultra violence. I remember hating level 2 for two reasons: #1: I sucked at platforming #2: I had a drifting controller so I sucked even more at platforming then I normally did
I think the best levels are urdak necrovel and thesuper gore nest all of them have great encounters the platforming isnt too bad and the arenas are always fun to replay especially the final arena at the top of necrovel part 2
just dumped another 70 hours in the game since the reveal of the dark ages gotta say my least favorite levels are the ones in Urdak, it feels uncanny to play in them and maybe that was the feeling the devs intended to give to us
For me, all of Doom Eternal's levels are the worst in the series (maybe some of Doom 2's are worst), maybe because they contain these stupid platform elements, even to the extreme with elements of rocket platforms with gothic burning chains, which seems absurd and fairy-tale to me. Doom Eternal is my third favorite game after bloodborne and sekiro so i´m really happy to see you cover it. i´d say my least favorite areas are the ones from TAG2 since especially the first two just looked so boring. my favorites are probably the holt, Urdak and super gore nest. also, i find sentinel prime to be really underrated. i love the soundtrack and the general vibe of the place and i love the boss fight, i think it´s really fun. oh and by the way, how do you get that skin? it looks awesome
Glad you liked the video! The skin is for beating TAG2 on Ultra Nightmare, so it's a bit tricky to earn but much less so than the Aurum skin for beating TAG1 on UN. I also love the Gladiator, I'll be talking about him next week in the boss ranking video-Alex
The only level I find myself having trouble to bring myself to play through is Nekravol 2. I despise every arena in this level except the very last one. They have weird objects and structures in the arena that make movement janky and unsmooth. Maybe it’s just the way I play but it annoys me. I also don’t really care for Urdak just because I find the level to be very long for such an easy boss fight.
Not a bad list, but I would definitely swap Final Sin and The Holt, and Urdark would probably just above the boss fight levels... Also I didn't care for the DLC levels much aside of UAC Atlantica and *maybe* Reclaimed Earth was just "ok". I think my top 5 would probably be: 1) UAC Atlantica Facility 2) Mars Core 3) Super Gore Nest 4) Doom Hunter Base 5) Cultist Base Beyond that, probably 6) Final Sin 7) Arc Complex 8) Taras Nabad 9) Nekravol Pt 2 10) Nekravol Pt 1 Hell on Earth and Exultia aren't *bad* levels, but I think for most people that have played the game a lot, we tend not to rank them higher because we've replayed them so much AND you don't have much of the Slayers kit unlocked by that point either.

I loved the holograms in the Earth levels. To me, Eternal worked best in the Earth and Hell levels. Many of the other dimensions felt a bit shallow to my taste.

I don't get disliking a level for being to long. More content and fighting why would I complain. Whenever I do Ultranightmare you end up playing multiple levels anyway so the exhaustion would be there regardless.
I didn’t count the master levels as part of my rankings, but I did enjoy all of them a great deal. They’d basically occupy the top spots on my list I think except for the ARC Complex ML, which suffers a little bit because it’s so long feeling like the main version is. World Spear ML was a major improvement over the original, and Mars Core was a nice intermediate difficulty one. I think The World Spear and Taras Nabad are the hardest for me, they both gave me a lot of trouble on Nightmare. Someday when they’re all released maybe I’ll rank the master levels
3y old video, I know, but still, I am really surprised that The Blood Swamps gets such high praise. The dome traps felt dull and the fog-heavy sections of the map are just an absolute no-no for me as an accessibility standards expert.
