I love love LOVE the misdirection in Haunting of castle Malloy. Did Matt get cold feet and run? Is he playing a silly little prank? no. SURPRISE JETPACK GRANDMA
I’d say for Ghost Dogs, the unhinged thing is Red being very vague when asking Nancy if she can take pictures 🙃😂 like we knowwww it’s birds he wants, but the context of the modern world upon replays definitely makes it sound like he’s asking for ‘illicit’ photos at first
Okay can we talk about Samantha Quick knowing Ned in Phantom of Venice?? Or that super old guy remembering Jake Hurley's puzzle in the diner like WTF WHAT IF JOE DIDN'T WANT A CHEESEBURGER!?
Me! I'm the person who's never played a Nancy Drew game. I've watched some people stream a cowboy one (shadow ranch I think?) but other than that, I'm here exclusively because I saw this video in my recommended and I love unhinged content. Great video very fun :)
In Carousel, if you get the Easter egg and then take it to the arcade games and click it in the corner of screen, Nancy's phone rings and it's from past Nancy from MHM. Past Nancy asks current Nancy where the key to attic is and she let's her know it's in the cash register drawer in basement. Then Nancy calls Nancy awesome before hanging up. It's soooo weeeiiirddd!
also (imho) the option to LET PEOPLE DIE at the end of Thorton hall is so unhinged. Like you can do fewer puzzles by letting people die. that's an option for the player.
The pendulum is in Waverly, because it's a reference to Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Pit and the Pendulum," in which the narrator describes his experiences being tortured during the Spanish Inquisition. This includes being strapped to a table as a pendulum swings above him, which he narrowly escapes after rats eat his bonds, freeing him. That lady who founded the school was truly an unhinged stan for including that in her floor plans. My favorite unhinged moment is definitely dancing in a cat suit for money. It's been 15 years or more, and I'm still baffled/scandalized. I mean, _painting masks for Carnivale as a means of earning money was right there._
I'm aware of the story I just don't understand why they built it into a girls' school! Truly unhinged stan behaviour. Painting masks for Carnivale would have been so cool and fun omg!
And the fact that she finds a full bottle of this really rare and valuable alcohol there that she is specifically looking for? What are the chances!! But yeah I would NOT want to go swimming in that water lol
I just found your channel and I’m obsessed!! I know you ranked them all already but I’d love to see a best & worst character in each game video! Also hoping you do a play through of warnings at Waverly soon!
Aww I'm glad! I'm definitely planning to do a Best & Worst character video! And a Warnings at Waverly Academy playthrough, but unfortunately I'm playing through the games in alphabetical order now (I wanted to play them in some order other than chronological) so unfortunately I won't get to it for quite a while :/ Hopefully I'll stream it soon tho!
how could you forget the brown blob thing that scurries by the workshop in Thornton Hall?? What even was it? I never hear anyone talk about it and I think of it all the time
MR SKINBAG!! I love him! Idk if you've been watching my recent Ghost of Thornton Hall let's play, but stay tuned for him to make an appearance in the next episode!
The snowmen in my opinion are the most unhinged in all ND history. I feel like people don’t think enough about this. This is the Nancy Drew universe, not Frozen. There simply cannot be snowmen squawking. And who built so many snowmen? When I played the game I thought it was a screech sound that the snowmobile was making. But the herinteractive employees confirm that it’s the snowmen and think it’s a funny, cute addition. I just 😱 ⛄️
YES I'm glad I'm not the only one who's kept up at night thinking about those poor snowmen. And you're right there's literally an army of them....terrifying
I have to add something interesting!! So Bernie the alligator loving marshmallows isn’t actually all that unhinged! I actually go to New Orleans a few times a year to visit family and that’s actually a big thing down there! So it’s less unhinged and more culturally accurate! Now one could argue that it’s relatively unhinged for people in New Orleans to just feed alligators marshmallows as a pastime….
ned could have flown to meet nancy as a big romantic gesture in one of her international cases, and gotten kidnapped and held for ransom, ala bess marvin.
Ok I just found this video and I have to add something that will make Hotchkiss eating all that chicken even more unhinged. You say she got 50 chicken wings. In the US context, when she says ‘50 drumsticks’ she is referring to chicken legs separated from the thigh. So even more chicken for one person to eat lol.
Hi. You allude, in your intro, to how hilarious it would be to expose someone unfamiliar with the Nancy Drew games to all of these unhinged moments, and I am pleased to say that I am about to be one of those people. Other than the controversial twist in Seven Ships (I think that’s what it’s called, lol - the “deleted” game) the twist in Castle Malloy, and the “Nancy’s Mom is a spy” concept, I am going into this video blind to these stories and what occurs within them, having gathered my basic Nancy Drew knowledge from a brief video essay, a couple of your other tier lists, and a playthrough of Castle Malloy. I’ll let you know which unhinged moments surprised me the most in a follow-up comment. In the meantime, thank you for helping to induct me into this fascinating world of old-school gaming.
As promised, my follow-up comment documenting my picks for the most insane moments described in this video: - “Sitting on the mummy and not being discovered for 600 years” is the craziest one of them all to me. I’m genuinely unsure what that means or why that would be in a game, let alone in Nancy Drew. I had to rewind the video twice to try and comprehend the meaning of the words you were saying, and even now, I’m not certain I interpreted them correctly. - “The creature of Capu Cave is actually bugs performing a mating ritual” definitely made me question the kind of series I am getting into. - “The snowman screaming in agony” feels straight out of a bad creepypasta. - “The sexy catsuit,” because of course. - “The banshee is a senile jetpacking orphan” was one I already knew about, but it’s still utterly absurd. I don’t get why this was the plotline they settled for. - “Getting revenge on your ex by becoming a manager at his company and then sabotaging him with a discount Frankenstein” does not logically track… at least, not in my brain. I wouldn’t try that with an ex, I’ll say that. - “Biological Terrorism” ????? So, yeah. There’s my list. Thank you for the, um, “informative” video. Can’t wait to come back to this comment in a year and recollect how naive I was.
For the first one, the idea is that Nancy suffocates to death inside a mummy's tomb and then her body isn't discovered until many, many, many years later! Absolutely wild 😆 The jetpack grandma plotline is absolutely iconic in its absurdity, within the fandom we're still asking the same question about it: why?? But I love it! Hope you enjoy the wild, unhinged ride playing the Nancy Drew games is and you enjoy all the unhinged moments I didn't mention in this video!
You're talking about gaslighting aren't you? Lol I knew someone would comment this. I literally almost made a pinned comment saying "This video is just for fun and don't take anything I say seriously" but I thought SURELY no one is going to be pedantic in the comments of a video that talks about Nancy Drew dancing in a catsuit for money...
