After an exhausting two weeks of painting a section of my house that last saw the inside of a Sherwin-Williams can when Nirvana was still touring with all its original members, it's time to rank the villains of another Scooby-Doo series.
This time it's 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies', a series featuring regular guest "stars" that was such a popular Scooby format, it took Warner Bros almost 50 years to try it again.

The reason the Batman and Robin episodes are so ridiculous is because they are using the Batman and Robin from the Adam West Batman show which was pure zaniness and matches up quite well with the Scooby-Doo gang hijinks.

My own theory about the ungloved hand with the ring is that an overworked, elderly HB animator was burning the midnight oil trying to put the episode out as fast as possible. In a state of weariness, he drew batman with the ring because he didn't really know who batman was other than an imitator of the heroes he grew up on--the Shadow and the Phantom (but not the phantom shadow). He wouldn't have done it had he not been tired, but in his weary state, he drew batman with a ring. ....yeah, it's probably recycled animation.

If the Scooby-Doo series was more realistic, there's no way a giant powder blue van with no side windows painted with hippy flowers wouldn't be pulled over as it passed through literally every small Midwestern town in the country. Imagine Chief O'Hara's response. "Aye and begorrah, Commissioner! What in the Emerald Isle could have possessed the Dynamic Duo to kidnap a group o' wee bairns? What a bunch of blarney! Oh, the saints and angels must surely be waving their shillelaghs in sorrow for such a sad day. Ach." If it was regular milk, Bruce should've said "Bat Cookies and Milk"; because the Cookies are definitely Bat-Shaped, and I highly doubt Batman would go this low on ethics by having the milk come from bats... I've noticed that in certain cartoons, there are scenes deleted from the DVD releases. I always figured that when TV stations ran these episodes, they cut part of the scenes to put in more commercials. Then when the shows got transferred for home video release, they never added the scenes back. Maybe they were using the TV version instead of using the master. With a shorter run time, they could fit more episodes on fewer discs to save on production.

@robbiewalker2831
@robbiewalker2831 9 месяцев назад
@@JoeGoesOver Although I do enjoy “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” for being a return to form Scooby-Doo series after 8 years of Scrappy, I can see how Kennedy’s style of exaggerating squash and stretch can be a bit perplexing… but then again, the show was narrated from the perspective of Shaggy Rogers, who is known to be a comic relief character alongside Scooby… don’t know if it was intentional when contrasting with Tiny Toons, which had to switch between Glen Kennedy, Wang Films and Tokyo Movie Shinsha, leading to an inconsistent artstyle (though most people agree that Tokyo Movie Shinsha is best for the job, especially when it comes to their work on Animaniacs). In relation to PNSD, the Scooby Snacks are likely a recycled concept from QuickDraw McGraw, and the shorts containing Snuffles the Dog; Puppy Scoob reacted similarly to Snuffles when tasting the Scooby Snacks, so that could also be intentional. Everyone has their tastes, and not everyone is gonna like the same project. 11:26: I know what she’s thinking of is unrelated to the story, but I think she’s referencing how certain movies use lizards to represent giant monster reptiles. 13:59: Let’s take a moment to realize this depiction of Batman was based off Silver Age Batman (hence the blue in his outfit) the same way Adam West’s depiction was presented. From what I’m guessing, this Batman isn’t one to act all broody and insecure, but he is mature enough to not let it bother him as much, by being non-chalant… I know you’re thinking of the Joker, but still. 16:49: If you ask me, it’s because they already spoiled how it’s gonna fail: the fake money had President Lincoln wear a Turtleneck Sweater.

Part of the trouble with the animation from this period was that HB had farmed it out to their Australian studios (I'm guessing because they were focusing on "Charlotte's Web" with their A-team), and many times characters will be seen off model or mouths not lining up well with dialogue among other animation errors. I had no idea the DVD releases were missing that scene in which they deduce that the US economy would be undermined by a flood of counterfeit money. That is a fact and it was the primary reason why President Lincoln created the Secret Service. Why would it be cut? There was no issue when the episode played on TV even in the present day. As for Fred's remark, it does seem out of character for him and even as a kid I thought it was odd he should say it. However, as a woman myself, it never bothered me. Middle schoolers used to make jokes like this all the time back then. I's entirely possible Rhino was at least part American Indian (most I've met don't mind being called "Indians" however they prefer to be referred to by their tribal affiliation such as "Apache" or "Cherokee"). No one ever considers the possibility and immediately go with the cultural appropriation accusation. I thought it was odd Shaggy could keep the uranium sample in this episode but there was a subsequent episode (with a similar plot down to the uranium angle) in which Shaggy once again asks the question only to be denied because it would have been illegal.
@JoeGoesOver
@JoeGoesOver Год назад
Funny enough, another thing that led to such poor animation from Hanna-Barbera was them having bitten off more than they could chew by committing themselves to too many simultaneous series, thus forcing animators to cut a lot of corners in order to meet deadlines. I say "funny enough" because that seems to be exactly where the anime industry is at the moment, with more and more series seeing massive drops in quality due to a limited number of studios trying to meet the demand of TV networks and streaming services. Granted, 'Where Are You?' had more than its fair share of off model drawing, wrong coloring, etc., but I'm noticing it a lot more in this subsequent series. As I think I said at one point, I can't devote too much of my videos to pointing out the mistakes (not only would it be quite time-consuming, it also feels a bit... mean), but I will absolutely highlight the ones I find funny or ridiculously egregious. For example, I'm currently polishing the script going over the Addams Family episode and there's a moment in the show when Fred complains about the Mystery Machine and is looking right at it... except the animators forgot to actually include the van in the shot. Fred, Shaggy and Scooby are just staring at an empty space with some tire tracks leading up to it, only for it to immediately appear following a scene transition. I can't NOT point stuff like that out as it's just too funny not to. Thank you for watching, commenting and subscribing!

19:12 to be fair, the Scooby gang are a different breed compared to their regular victims. Remember that you mentioned earlier how if you lived in Gotham and saw those two, you were already conditioned to scatter away? Well we know that since the Joker and Penguin mostly keep to Gotham, the people there are already used to them and already know to avoid those two like you would a cockroach or a rat if you’re smart. Hell, apparently they are so used to Gotham’s villains that they regularly have drills for when they escape Arkham. The Scooby gang are not local Gothamites, and as such would have no idea how to prepare for the insanity of those two. It’s lucky for the world that Scooby Doo was so unapologetically gluttonous that he scared them both, like the good boy we know he is..😊

There’s also the fact that Mrs Baker made things worse for herself by revealing who she was. Think about it-the gang had no idea she was the perpetrator. They thought she was an innocent victim in the whole scheme, and instead of playing along with the notion, she called them fools and unmasked herself out of spite. Though, to be fair, since she was already caught, she probably recognized there was no point in pretending anymore and decided to screw it anyway. At least she had enough dignity to confess and unmask herself unlike other villains who fell before her and afterwards..

It's probably best we don't bring up the 'Velma' series. Nothing good can come from that. Re-watching this episode and hearing Fred's "joke" was a bit of a shock. I'm about as far away from being a prude as you can get, but it was so incongruous hearing it in a Scooby episode. Well, having lived through them, all I can say is that was the 1970s. There was an interesting Batman comic in the late 1980s written by Neil Gaiman where the Riddler complained about how violent Joker and Penguin had become. The deleted scene was from someone's VHS upload to RU-vid and the scene with the walking man is from the famous "Ministry of Silly Walks" sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus. Any crossover can be tricky, but in the hands of the right writer, it can be magic. Sadly, the writers here weren't the right ones. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!

19:42 This part gave me a good chuckle, Arkham villains aren't really no masterminds when escaping, they just tell the guard's to look behind them or they say there shoe's are untied.

Honestly, even modern Joker might have gone along with Ms. Baker’s scheme for a bit if he found it funny, but then he likely would have Joker Gassed her and started using the bopper clowns as bombs or something.

I could absolutely see Mark Hamill's version doing that. He turned a guy who road-raged him into a pet project for years, after all! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!

@@JoeGoesOver, and both Tim Drake and Jason Todd too 😢. That one hurts, cause he made not one but two Robins suffer horribly. At least Jason got the sweet release of death from his own suffering. Tim didn’t even get to live free without being used as a puppet..😭

*sigh Yup. That's my bad. I had a friend from out of town visiting the night I uploaded this and was scrambling to get it rendered and published before he came and despite painstakingly re-watching the video several times (which I always do because making mistakes is mortifying for me), apparently I watched it one time too few and missed this blatant error. Here's hoping this doesn't become another "Pericles is a parrot, not an owl" moment because I don't think I could make a good T-shirt out of THIS screw up. Thanks for watching and commenting!

' velma dissapeared! ' ' shows velma ' ive recently re-watched alot of the season 1 and season 2 ' New scooby-doo movies ' and let me tell you, holy shit the # of errors is astounding....from characters hair colors changing to batman going from gray ' leggings ' to ' bare skin ' and then back to gray leggings, in the later season 1 episode when shaggy visits his uncle Nathaniel, scooby is chased by the sea serpant and appears in teh boat, vanishes, then re-appears, then disappears and in another frame magically appears on top of the sea serpant- in the Jerry reed music hall episode, the villains dressed as a viking and davey crockett are seen running down the auditorium , and then seconds later are seen in the same clip AGAIN this time using scooters.....

If I wanted to, I could probably produce several videos just mining all the production mistakes I'm finding in this series. This is in addition to laughably bad art where characters look like they were drawn by elementary school students with broken fingers. What keeps me from doing that is not being able to find an entertaining approach. So far, I'm just sticking with the mistakes that I found funny or glaring enough to point out, though on the new video that will (hopefully) be uploaded later tonight, I found a frame that was so ugly I shared it on Twitter. Thanks for watching and commenting!

25:05 from what I heard Dick Grayson (aka Nightwing, aka OG Robin, aka probably the very same Robin in this series) was the one who came up with the whole “naming everything with Bat in it” deal, or so the constant influx of fanfiction I read would say, which wouldn’t surprise if it was wrong cause they also say Tim Drake’s parents are abusive but comic lore says otherwise. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Bruce Wayne is no longer the kind of guy who makes you feel safe when he rescues you..😖

Thank you very much for your kind words! I have occasionally featured a blooper or two as a final sting before the final "thank you" message, but believe me when I say that twenty minutes of me swearing, rolling my eyes, grunting, swearing, complaining about loud cars and mocking how badly-written my scripts are would get old very quickly. Did I mention all the swearing? Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Thank you for watching and commenting! If all goes well, Part 2 will finish rendering and be uploaded later today! It might have been finished this morning, but while watching the final version before making the video public, I discovered a small production mistake that requires me to re-render the video (which takes an hour or two), re-upload (which takes about half an hour) and for RU-vid to render and look for copyright issues (which takes a frustratingly indeterminant amount of time). The mistake itself was very tiny and probably not even something most people would notice, but I'm my own worst critic and THAT guy is a real a**hole, so I don't want to get him angry at me.

Like many Scooby series, it's not currently available on any streaming services without a subscription (or rental fees). You should still be able to get physical copies of the series on DVD or Blu-ray, but you have to be careful which copy you order as the original DVD release did not contain many of the episodes due to rights issues. I purchased my streaming copy on Amazon Prime Video because the VUDU version won't allow for HD playback on a PC (despite their claims). In fact, I originally used VUDU for my copy but was able to get a refund after proving to them that it wouldn't play on my PC. For obvious reasons I cannot recommend looking on non-official streaming sites or "alternate download locations", but for what it's worth, the versions you'll likely find there are poor copies taken from old Cartoon Network or Boomerang broadcasts. Although, as it's the only way to see it, 'Wednesday is Missing' (Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family) can ONLY be watched on pirate sites, as the episode itself still hasn't received an official DVD or streaming release.
