Our southern Thailand road trip continues in this 2nd episode as we leave Prachuap Khiri Khan on the Bay of Thailand and head south to the often-overlooked province of Ranong.
Along the way, we made a few stops, including:
Wat Suwan Khiri: This hilltop temple offered stunning views and a tranquil rest stop. It was fashioned after Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar; probably one of the largest and most impressive temples in all of southeast Asia.
Khao Fa Chi Viewpoint: We stopped at this panoramic viewpoint that looks out across the Kra Buri River with Myanmar as a stunning backdrop.
Coffee Shop: We discovered a delightful roadside coffee shop (ห้วยค้างคาว กาแฟสด) about 20 minutes north of Ranong , the perfect spot for a caffeine fix and relaxing break in their streamside garden.
Ranong's capital city, nestled where the Kra Buri River meets the Andaman Sea, is a fishing and trading port and a passageway to the southernmost town in Myanmar with a unique blend of Thai and Burmese cultures. We had some incredible seafood at Keing Lay Restaurant. If you're a seafood lover, don't miss this place - it alone was worth the trip!
We had a lot of ground to cover in our southern adventure so we didn’t spend a lot of time in Ranong proper. You’ll see why in our next video.

Ranong doesn't have anything outstanding like other provinces in the country. But it is the place where I intend to retire. That's because I love nature and polite, kind people.

While the city of Ranong is somewhat underwhelming there's a lot of natural beauty and cool stuff in the area. We loved the entire Andaman coast from Ranong to Thai Mueang Beach (we turned inland after that) and agree it's a good retirement option. You might also want to check out the Khanom Beach/Sichon area. Except in the heavily touristed areas where the locals have been compromised by the relentless assault of tourists we find the Thai people to be polite and kind everywhere we go. Probably the best thing about Thailand.

@@unconventionaljourney I'm Thai and I lived there 5 years ago. Khanom-Sichon coast That area is my home province. Because Ranong is a simple, not chaotic city with waterfalls, mountains and the sea. So I like it there. Now I live in Bangkok. and plan to move there when everything is ready

The food at that restaurant was fabulous. I'd go back to Ranong just to eat there again! I also want to go back and get the recipe for that lobster and egg in steamed milk ... it was outrageously good
