Hope this won't offend anyone, just a few thoughts on developing tech, AI and photography.

Important message. I also use generative fill in PS, like when I rectify images and need a little bit more space on one side of the landscape, with no prominent detail in there, I enlarge it on that side via AI. Or with a portrait with too tight framing on one side. Plus, I absolutely agree with you on that trend to make every landscape look "bigger than life" - every scenery like a super wall poster with exploding colors. For me, photography is more to show things in a new perspective, details and structures noone tends to look at. The fight for the most spectactular view is like a never- ending competition - everybody ends up exhausted, the eyes get tired - or bored.

As far as dramatic goes, I feel what you're saying; I've seen enough of these ""instagrammable" places from numerous photographers to the point where it doesn't look interesting anymore. However, would I pass up up the opportunity to take shots of those locations? Nope, I would love the experience and probably forget the photos in some folder. I guess this ambiguous spot is only reserved for those who enjoy looking at photography and creating it as well. I had to take an extra credit course in college and I chose photography because at the time it was a new hobby. The teacher was very passionate about the subject and said this that has been tattooed in my brain since "To take beautiful photos you need to look at the world as if you're seeing it for the first time"

I am with you on that, take me to exotic locations! I usually dont take a lot of photos when I am in those places, I prefer to take them in and that actual instagramable moment/image has probably already been taken (better) anyway. that does not mean I dont go looking for locations, on the contrary, but I usually look where other people dont.

In the late 70's I remember the fashion photographers Sarah Moon and Deborah Turbeville bringing in an "anti" element of softness, amplified grain and out of focus elements...all contrasting with the severity of Helmut Newton and Chris von Wangenheim's super sharp primary colors. AI's sameness, with everything turned up to 11, bores me. I like the idea of AI tools in the hands of artists, but hate it when it coughs up something just from a prompt.

I do remember them as well, I think that was the only time I really shot 35mm because the 3200 film gave that amazing grain and soft look. My issue with AI is mostly with the companies blatantly ripping off decades of hard and brilliant work so some AD can now harvest with a prompt. I am always for progress and pushing tech but the developments today seems to be a little off the rails, crashing forward without consideration.

Hi @paulschefz I get lost in the small things. Your NFT BAUSTEIN 058 is in my wallet and as well as a print on the wall. It is not an spectacular Instagram shot with popping color. For me it is a beautifull b&w image, which triggers a positive emotion in my body and soul,- like when photos do that. Now the one Million question: how much AI hast been used to finish that Beauty?

Danke! awesome! 🤩 absolutely zero AI! BAUSTEIN is as analog as it gets (for being digital capture of course)
