Enjoyed the video Martin and I appreciate your efforts. I have learned a lot from your videos, I admire your ability to take on a wide range of tasks and I understand your point that some of your videos may not be the official way to do things but they show how you do it....and how you manage to overcome problems by thinking outside the box when it is required. You also helpfully leave bits in where some things go wrong. That is how we learn.....anyone who claims to be perfect and not make mistakes is only demonstrating they are a fool. You are down to earth with a wealth of knowledge and thanks for sharing it for the benefit of so many others!!

Great video Martin, thanks for loading it up. I really enjoy all your videos and you have inspired me to have a go at fixing up lawnmowers. Funnily enough, it was something i considered about 20 years ago, but other things happened, so it didnt move forward. I bought a Hayter Harrier 48 in about 1985 brand new, and ive always serviced it myself, and its done plently of hard workin its life, and it's still going strong, so i should be ok. I just don't have much space in my shed to store tools and parts. Also, I'm not too sure where i can find any machines, but i will keep an eye out more closely now. Just wanted tonsay thank you for your inspirational videos. Thanks.

Maybe leaving negative comment on tools is a good thing as the designers can see the faults. I have a set of sealey clamps without the safety catch and they are dangerous to use so I'm wondering if sealey had complaints and added the safety catch.

I appreciate, Martin, that you don't get the grinder out but instead show how you cope another way. There's a lot to learn from that. As you often say - and it is a lesson taken to heart - "You make do with what you've got." My neighbour farmers are of the same attitude, which is one reason I love to visit with them. Keep up the great work; I think your approach is bang on. (BTW, being in Canada I saw the other Lancaster recently. What a magnificent piece of history! A very good & interesting repair & also to see how the British cars are hung together. Some viewers just cant help themselves with there comments and you had more than enough holding the car up plus the tire and wheel was also spotted under there. Thx for the bonus Lancaster footage. 👍I am from Canada and one of these rare birds resides in Hamilton, Ontario that still flys and the other in British Columbia which will be taxi driven only.

Hiya Martin, been a fan for a long time now. I've seen the same damage from pot holes and also an alloy wheel got destroyed due to pot holes. My main rant is our vehicles have to have an MOT to reach the minimum safe standard to be on our roads, Surely there should be a minimum safety standard for our roads to allow traffic onto them and if your vehicle gets damaged on a road that doesn't meet that standard we should be able to claim for repair costs. Bye the way keep the videos coming All the best Stuart

I have work as an agricultural engineer for the past 12 years and also worked one family and friends car for the same time. Spring compressors are only dangerous when used incorrectly, I’ve had them slip before but only when using two instead of all three and not taking the time to insure thy are installed correctly and spaced properly on the spring. There is nothing wrong with the way you do things and everyone does things differently and the way that works best for them. I personal like watching your videos and seeing how you do things differently to how I might have thought of doing it and have learned a lot from you. Keep up the great work. Regards Shaun

Martin, as ever a great video. My old Mondeo went through a couple of springs and whilst I had compressor clamps I didn't feel confident. Luckily I have an excellent local garage who did the tricky bit and I did the expensive bit of stripping and replacing the strut in and out of the car. I guess what I am saying is you work to your own levels of confidence, knowledge and/or experience but you definitely don't criticise someone else who know what they are doing. It was so refreshing to see someone saying it as it is and not pandering to idiots. I have had the same comments levelled at me about some of my videos. As I always remind people, if you don't like it don't watch or better still make a video yourself showing us how brilliant you are - of course they never do as they are talking out of their arse! Keep up the good work buddy 👍👍👍

Valid points about how you assessed the job and what risks were involved and to me it was oh so clear that the spring was not under compression when it was removed. You also made mention of the risks before and during the job but some people are deaf to the monologue given as they have a pre-disposition to find fault. Nice to have a rant every now and then though, gives us a lift to crack on with the job. More videos please

Dear friend. In the 60s, I read a report in a CCCP newspaper about an atomic icebreaker review that their scientists have found to be better than they used to be after 6 years of use! Nice to see you doing the job. I know that not everyone has a fully fitted workshop and we sometimes have to make do with what we have. I am quite a novice regarding cars, brake pads and oil change are about all I can manage.

Had to put two new springs on the front of my Mondeo last month. Used similar compressors to your Clarke set. Pain to do on the driveway but like you, it's all I've got. My other set of compressors were handmade by my local blacksmith 40 years ago. Same design as the others but the hooks are bent and welded steel. Like you, done hundreds of the damn things front and back. Never used a blanket except to keep the snow off me one year! Used ratchet straps once purely because the original springs were longer than the compressors, fitted them as soon as the springs were short enough. Still here, still got all my bits in the right places. Think some of these commentators need to get their hands dirty!

Have 2 sets of "Halfrauds" specials for home use. As long as you stagger them across the spring...perfectly safe!

Great video and very down to earth and full of common sense. The only comment I would say is.... more vectra/signum. 😁 But it's all good.

Thanks Martin, good video, people who make silly comments usually don’t have a clue what they are doing. Take care as always from South Africa
