It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, which I looked at through the eclipse glasses I got the last time this once-in-a-lifetime experience happened in 2017.
long island is pretty far east Joe, and if you do observe the eclipse for minutes you need the special glasses. here in PIttsburgh there was partial eclipse and the street lights came on and dusk to dawn lights came on, it was like evening for a short while then it was over
Our last total eclipse (of the heart) in the UK was in 1999. I was on a beach with 100% totality and I remember there were a load of Druids dancing around, chanting and playing their bongos. It only lasted a few minutes, but it felt very surreal. Our next one apparently won't be until 2090, when I'll be 109! Hopefully I'll be able to find a new pair of "Eclipse Glasses" by then...
It’s really amazing in my opinion, the glasses are way different they are complete black and protect your eyes well. Cool to see a celestial event like this, love space and this type of stuff.
I sat in Central Park. At first, I thought it was going to be a jip. Then I put on the glasses. Wearing the glasses and staring directly at the sun I saw the moon approach the sun from the lower right of the sun to the left center of the sun then the moon moved from the left center of the sun to the upper right of the sun. I would describe it as an extremely slow "Less Than Symbol" pattern. The tri-state area was only supposed to experience 75 percent of totality. To experience the full effect in New York you had to be directly under the path of totality without clouds.
Wow, that guy at the beginning working at the market. He was a Doctor? An eye doctor? I heard this was the last eclipse because of climate change so hope you all enjoyed it. Kidding, don't panic.
We supposedly had 75% visibility in the desert 🏜 in New Mexico & it looked like the sun temporarily was blocked by clouds ⛅️. It certainly didn't get dark. 🥱
I drove all the way down to the western tip of the UK in 1999 to see the ' total ' eclipse..which I'd looked forward to since my teens..and it was fu*** cloudy...😢
If there had been some dramatic evidence of the eclipse, I intended to scream in pain in the dark and say I was blinded (from wearing those incorrect 3D glasses). Sadly, I had to make do with this.
@@MeanMrMayo You should have done that anyway by putting the glasses on and staring at the sun, wating for the event to take place After a quick cut, claim that 20 minutes have passed and you finally see COMPLETE darkness (even though it was clearly still light outside). And how amazing it is that the total eclipse was lasting so long (hours).
Well Joe ,youhad the wrong glasses on....the eclipse glasses block the sun...But here on Long Island we only got like 80%...you had to be further west like Buffalo to see the complete effect....but you will get to see one in 2074....LOL.
I live in Erie,PA and they, ( news media) have been making a stink about this for the last year , and iam over it. That having been said I did go out side and watch with my free glasses , it was pretty neat, but if I didn't live here I would not have spent my time and money on this.... wonder if any optometrist are having any sales tomorrow for those that choose to look without glasses.lol
During the eclipse of August 21, 2017, the sun was 90% covered by the moon where I live. I saw no effect where I live. (I didn't have the special glasses. I was just looking at the effect on the earth.) On April 8, 2024, I ignored the eclipse because it was only going to be covering 95% of the sun where I live. After my previous experience, I figured there would be no effect on the earth unless it was a 100% eclipse. Around 3:15 P. M., I noticed it was getting dark. I went outside. It wasn't dark like nighttime, but it was dark like shortly after sunset--despite the fact that I could still see the sun shining overhead. The effect lasted for maybe 20 minutes. My advice is, if an eclipse is going to be 95% or more where you live, check it out. Otherwise, don't bother unless you have the special glasses.
We got robbed, where I am in Ontario, Canada. Bad cloud cover all afternoon. And it cleared up, just 30 min. after we reached our peak eclipse. Ugh! At least I got to physically see the last one-third of the sun being blocked, as the moon's shadow was passing by. If the cloud cover had cleared 30 min. sooner, I would've seen a 99.4% solar eclipse. I saw it get pretty dark, before and after we reached our peak, but we missed actually seeing that.
agree with you joe, much to do about nothing! same thing here as well. better luck next time, though i wont be around to see it. thanks joe, i did enjoy this rantcid mayo! take care, rob
I watched it the way one should, at home via a live feed courtesty of NASA no need for glasses or dealing with crowds. With how good some of those cameras are now to capture those kind of things why buy those glasses?? To each therw own. Always funny Joe cheers
Hi Joe-I believe your referring to a Pin Hole camera-Here in S. Ontario it got dark but due to cloudy weather all I saw was Horse Pukey-Whole lot of nothing. Great for a laugh all those suckers planning a trip to Niagara Falls. Marketing nature...Ha!
hey Joe, LOL it looks overcast were you are. I was able to see the eclipse in Weehawken NJ it wasn’t a Full eclipse from NJ but it did get gradually dark. Did the sun or moon pop out at you with the 3D glasses? Lol Great video take care!!!
You should not be wearing Friday the 13th slashes or 3d movie glasses. You have to wear the ones you saw in the store for free. They are correct. Cmon man you should of known this. You would of damaged your eyes if you looked at it in full power.
People get excited for silly things like "solar eclipse viewings", "4th of July fireworks" etc...because it's FREE. People are cheap & bored. They got nothing else going on in their life. This is as good as it gets for these boring clowns.
Get more specific and I'll show you. Bottom line is my area predicted a major eclipse experience here and there wasn't a spectacular one. The 3D glasses were only a joke, I know they don't protect. What now?
Same here didn't see the eclipse in my area either. Tired of the media exaggerating like you said between the earthquake last week and the eclipse today. I know there were people who did get to see the eclipse in their areas not in my area either folks! I laughed when you said " Eclipse my foot! " You sounded like Oliver Hardy LOL
I understand others got to see it from their areas, but I was reacting of course to the faux hoopla that had been generated here in my neck of the woods. Complete waste of time.
Joe I hope you didn't actually where the 3D the right glasses you can't see a thing out of it expect the sun it is really amazing. I hope you didn't hurt your eyes. It didn't get black out side but it got cold . With the moon blocking the sun it was also blocking the heat.
I experienced an eclipse when I was a kid and that was enough. Comets are more interesting to me. It's hard to get excited for these events when you live somewhere that's cloudy most of the year.
Hey Joe🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌙😎Glad You GOT the Valuable Glasses 🤣😆 Save Them for the Next Total Solar Eclipse in August 22, 2044 🤣😆 , well Go Listen to George Harrison "Here Comes the Moon " 🌑🌓🌒💢💥💫take care 👍
It was Great! I feel Different, I guess the band you are in started playing different tunes! "And if the Band your in starts to play different tunes....well I'll see you on the Dark Side of The Moon.............There is no Dark Side of The Moon, matter of fact it's all Dark!"
I was lucky to live smack dab in the middle of the full totality zone! Watched right from my driveway! It was awesome esp at the full totality for almost 4 minutes! It was clear and sunny here today and it went almost pitch black! Looked all cloudy there to me! Hopefully it was indeed fully cloud covered there or you didn’t really look - because yes you can DEFINITELY ruin your eyes without the specific glasses. You can not know it for several days and retinas are not good things to lose! Hopefully no kid took your advice and used 3D glasses because they didn’t know better.
