PS! WHO HAD A "KISS ARMY"!! t-shirt!! I was a young ass teen & still wore it until to faded out!!! But being 58 yrs--still the Best Music growing "70's-80's"!?!
Back in the 1970s Kiss was known as the loudest band in the world. Their live shows were the absolute best. By the way, the base player is Gene Simmons. He had a reality show for a while and played in a couple of movies. He is scary even without the makeup.
They are from NYC, the band was broke, critics hated them, they were hemorrhaging money, and about to quit go home and get straight jobs. A Detroit DJ started playing them and Detroit Embraced them in a HUGE way. Detroit Audiences are notoriously hard to please, so when they got the seal of approval from Detroit fans and Cream magazine loved them they just took off.
@@steelcityowl1 saw a couple of interviews that made it definitely sound like they were, it may have been the editing for the sake of drama, but that is the way it was presented.
It was actually written about a fan. He was on his way to a show and died in a car accident on the way. The band read about in the newspaper the next day and wrote this song.
True, but for the best version EVER of DRC you MUST listen to this version from 1980 Australian Stadium Tour. First, it's always better live, the costumes here are as big and detailed as they got, but mostly bc you will NEVER be able to hear or sing it any other way than Paul does here, extending every line with some vocal gymnastics. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fGBlTYrA2ec.html
saw them live a year ago. couldn't be more backtracked than this😂the only one singing anymore is gene, his vocals still hit you good even at his age. paul's voice is just gone to the point where he can only speak.
I am one of those 70's chicks, when concerts were it! No RU-vid, only fm radio, and some of the best concerts ever. Kiss is the only band I went to see twice, extra loud and awesome entertainment! Oh the memories.
Try a song by Kiss that Gene Simmons sings next like God of Thunder. Do the Alive version so you can see Kiss in concert. They really did put on the Greatest Show on Earth
GOD OF THUNDER GOD OF THUNDER GOD OF THUNDER LIVE FROM THE ALIVE ALBUM. YOU HAVE TO SEE SOME OF THEIR CONCERT FOOTAGE. NOBODY HAS PUT ON A SHOW LIKE THEY DID BEFORE OR AFTER.
Ohhhh Lil bro you just opened a whole world I can walk you through. Before anything before slipknot and MGK I grew up with nothing and I mean nothing but KISS. Had all the Kissology DVDs, I loved them dude. Lemme know if you need more songs to hear
Me too, I’m 16 and only a few of my friends even know who KISS is. I was probably one of the youngest people at the concert I went to in October in ATL.
I was in 8th grade and KISS played our Jr High in 1974. They had recently released their debut album. A kid in student council had a father that was a local promoter and was able to get them to play as they were passing through the area. I didn't even know who they were at the time.
At the time of this album, the drummer was Peter "The Cat" Chris. You might check out the song "Beth" by Peter, a love ballad for his wife. Yeah KISS with a love ballad and a good one too. PEACE!
I agree I love "Beth" & "Hard Luck Woman" with Peter Cris singing, he was the drummer, these are the only 2 songs he sung. I saw their reunion to tour, it was fantastic to see them together again. 😊
@@phatphat7089 I'm going to have to look up "Black Diamonds" that's a song I don't recall. I shouldn't be surprised, they've put out a ton of music over the years. Update, just watched a live video of it I love the opening with the guitar and Paul Stanley. I had to laugh though because at one point I saw someone's butt cheek because they were wearing butt cheek showing chaps 😂😂😂😂 Thank you for reminding me of that song.
Peter sang lead vocals on quite a few songs. Black diamond on their first album, mainline on hotter than hell. Getaway on Dressed to Kill, beth on Destroyer, baby driver and Hard Luck Woman on rock and roll over, all 10 songs on his 1978 solo album (when every member of the band did a solo album at the same time). Dirty living on Dynasty. Those should be in chronological order from 1974 to 1979. If I missed any that someone else can think of please finish the list for me
Gotta say, and this is from a original Kiss Army member from 1978; SKIP 'God of Thunder' and 'Strutter' until you are ready. Early Kiss is a unique head slammin hard dark sound that is an aquired taste for a lot of folks...especially Genes songs
⚡! I was about 7-8 when Kiss started becoming well known, that's what the "Bad kids" listened to during the height of disco.😂My best friend had a "Bad"🙄 older brother who listened to Kiss,& other "Devil music", ya can't beat that set up!😂 I was Blessed at an early age! 🗺️🕊️💓
51 year old guy here. KISS is what many of us listened to when we were kids. It was our introduction to rock & roll. My first concert was KISS in 1979. And, yes, they played 'I was made for loving you' Great video btw :)
This song is about a kid that died in a car crash on the way to there show at Cobo hall in Detroit in the 70's. The band heard about it and wrote this song in his memory....Long live Rock and Roll! 🔥
Legend has it that this song was written about a real accident that happened. The kids were driving to a KISS show in detroit. As a way to honor those kids they wrote a song about it
Great reaction! Kiss is a great band, and best viewed live. The next Kiss reactions you need to do have to be the live versions of Kiss…you won’t regret any of thier live videos
Better late than never Jojo - lol - this is the opening track from the "Destroyer" album which was released in 1976. I was only 5 years old at the time, living in the small, south Georgia country town where I was born and my older brother and I heard this on the radio for the first time. I was immediately hooked and I have been a huge KISS fan ever since! My first KISS concert was "Lick It Up", their first album/tour without their signature make up (and a couple new members, namely Vinnie Vincent on guitar who replaced Ace Frehley and Eric Carr who replaced Peter Criss on the drums)... #KISSARMY
KISS are 4 New Yorkers, but Detroit is the first city that really embraced them & where they had their first slew of sold out concerts. So they wrote a song thanking Detroit.
We'll done, JoJo. At least you listened to the real Kiss with the original members here. Rock and Roll all night is a song that gives a correct bead on Kiss. God bless ya, buddy and keep growing
My mom saw Kiss live in Edmonton, Alberta in 1977, I saw them in 2000, and these guys are still on tour! They're on their End of the Road tour right now, which was on hiatus from the pandemic but I guess they rescheduled it and it's back on! If you can, I would urge you to go, these guys have an insane energy about them. It's just indescribable.
Kiss is Paul Stanley, lead singer, Gene Simmons, lead Guitar and vocals, Ace Frehley, Guitar, Peter Criss, Drums.. Awesome Band, I definitely recommend seeing them in concert...they will Blow Your Mind...
I love seeing fans from other genres appreciating stuff, if we all had a little more empathy and understanding the world would be a better place. Nicely done my friend.
They're from New York State. Detroit was the first home base of their fan club, the KISS Army, after their first live album was dine there in 1975. The fans surrounded the local radio station until they promised to play their music.
If you ask any rock and roll band that was touring back in the early 70s, what their favorite city is to do a show, they will all say Detroit. The fans in Detroit were unusually enthusiastic and rock and roll bands just loved to play here... Detroit Rock City baby!
Watched KISS in Colorado several years ago and they were going to fine the band thousands of dollars if they played past a certain time. They were rocking it out and Paul Stanley said he would write the city a check and they kept rocking. A member of the Kiss Army ever since.
I Love It Loud. War Machine. Black Diamond, Deuce, Parasite, Going Blind, All American Man, Rocket Ride, Back in the New York Groove, Domino, I could go on and on. This band is a treasure trove of great rock and roll.
I remember the first time they opened with this song seeing the end of the road tour and it was so amazing to see the curtain drop down and the heat of the fire to hit your face. It was magical
Hello young brother, don't let nobody tell what you like. Don't give people that much power to control what you like. Kiss is from New York City U.S.A 🇺🇲
Detroit is the first big city that Kiss embraced for the simple fact that when a football coach started playing KISS to motivate his Team,They went from losing every game, and went on to win State Championship in 1 season! Kiss has motivated me since I was 15 years old.
Ive loved KISS since 1975/76 There have been haters but KISS is still touring. I’m glad you are remaining open minded! Good for you! Also you should view their live videos. They put on an awesome live act.
I was listening to 80's hair band music in highschool (stll listen to it), but not any KISS back then . I was overseas in the early 90's and a friend of mind intruduces me to the music of KISS and the DOORS.....boy he educated me. Kiss became my favorite Band - I went out and bought all there stuff immediately., the Doors are great also.
It's what you enjoy, just delete and block haters. The musicians in the business for that many decades and work that hard to entertain know a heck of a lot more about music. A live version of this is exciting. Great song!
Awesome video man - I've loved KISS since I was 10. These guys really put 110% into giving an audience an amazing show. The version you listened to is the single version - if you hear the album version, it has a longer instrumental middle section that really adds to the song.
Very cool, man! KISS is my favorite band, I've seen them live 11 times and it's really cool to see someone trying out their music with an open mind. Rock on, bro!
This is the Mk 1 version of Kiss, with Paul Stanley on rhythm and lead guitars and lead vocal, Ace Frehley on lead guitar and backing vocals, Gene Simmons on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Peter Criss on drums and backing vocals. The song was inspired by an event an actual event, although the inspiring event happened at a concert venue and not on a highway.
KISS made me a musician. Four years old in 1980, been playing ever since. Went to university for music. Various ups and down in life. KISS has always made me happy. I got to thank Gene Simmons personally in 2002. There's a live version from Australia in 1980 where the energy is so hot the band can barely contain it
So much to discover LFR Jojo! Bodycount, Motorhead, Iggy Pop, Monster Magnet, Probot, System Of A Down, Twisted Sister, QOTSA, The Who, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Danko Jones, The Cure, The Clash, Dire Straits, David Bowie...
my friend, Kiss started in 1972 with their first release on 18th February 1974, they have 20 studio albums plus 4 solo records and multiple alive records in which kiss alive 2 is 1/4 new studio songs at the time, 1977. they have compilation records with new songs or re-recordings of older songs. in total I would guess they have over 280 songs, there are at least 3 great songs on every album if not much more on some!!! I would say if I was to pick out the best 50 songs I would still be missing out on some killer tracks. This band puts most bands to shame, this band still puts on a show as good as any other that has ever been, this band has out done even themselves! (Dubai 2020 New Years as an example, Dodger stadium 1996, Brooklyn bridge, Kiss symphony!!! not to mention all of their other great shows MSG, Cobo hall, Rio de Janeiro with 200 thousand fans in the crowd) The off spin bands like Frehley's comet or Criss have spawned so much music your head would spin if you went back to take a listen. Not too many other acts can say they have done anything close to what KISS has done!
You've got to listen to the Destroyer version to get the full experience. They're from New York city. And they did this song because it was in Detroit they finally got national recognition.
Listen to the origin off the Destroyer album. Play it back to back with the second song "King of the Night Time World". The two songs are meant to be played together.
Thank you for your honest reaction and comments,it is great to see someone with their own mind. Stay REAL and I'll keep watching, if you go fake I gotta bounce!
Unholy, I just wanna kiss alive 3, god of thunder, do you love me, domino, black diamond, creatures of the night, love gun, god gave rock and roll to you & the list goes on and on KISS have so many good songs 😍🔥🔥🔥😍🔥
One of my all time favorite KISS songs! Love seeing you rock to it. Thanks for ALL of your fabulous reactions. There’s hope for open-minded youth. Keep rockin’!!!
"Detroit Rock City" was written during the group's second US tour, in support of their second album, "Hotter Than Hell" (1974). In those days, the band had no tour money, and had to travel from town to town in their own station wagon, with all of their instruments and speakers. The song was about their traveling experiences on the road, and about the great experience the band had during their concert at Cobo Hall, in Detroit, Michigan, which really put the band on the map in the eyes of the national music press.
I'll just keep commenting this every once in a while and I'll keep adding stuff i guess. But man, you should do some Def Leppard for sure! Would really recommend the following ones, don't know if anyone agrees, but we'll see. - Love Bites - Hysteria - Photograph - Gods of War - Animal - Brining on the Heartbreak But yeah... To be honest, it's hard to name one of their songs that I wouldn't recommend. So... To name some more: - Armageddon it - Run Riot - Tear it down - Heaven is - High 'n Dry And switch 625, for some Steve Clark magic. But Dire Straits is also amazing! - Money for nothing, definitely a song that you should listen to - walk of life - Brothers in arms - Romeo and Juliet - Solid rock And probably my favorite, it lasts almost 15 minutes, but 'Telegraph Road' is a masterpiece.
The song was written about a Charlotte, NC youth that died in a car crash on his way to see Kiss. They changed it to Detroit to pay respect for the city that really made them famous. The band was based in New York
I was living in Charlotte NC when that happened. I couldn't get to the show. I'm now living in Toronto, where portions of the Detroit Rock City movie was filmed. The Detroit scenes were filmed in Hamilton, Ontario.
This is my fav Kiss song....saw them in the mid 70's in Houston before they hit the big time. The crowd couldn't have been over 2000 people. They played like they sold out an arena and they were tight...flames, costumes, everything was perfection! Good memories.
Your reaction was equal to mine when i was 12 and first heard this song. They had some bangers. You have to hear their song Lick It up. You'll love it!
KISS is from New York. They chose to write about Detroit as a thank you to the fans here treating them like headliners while they were relatively unknown.
