Maybe, but try The Band Played Waltzing Matilda by Eric Bogle, it's more personal and less obtuse

His words are indeed hard hitting. There is a very good reason he was awarded the Nobel prize for literature. And he's still out there 60 years later!

This song means as much today as when Bob wrote it. Old men send young to die, the violence today is mostly started by old men. I wish there were more old men like me (70) who believes in peace for all. Jim

One of Dylan's best. So well written, and performed with an appropriate disdain.

One of the most brilliant nobel prixzes for literature that have been given through the years was gven to Bob Dylan...

I am glad a Hip Hop fan finally got to this one. Its brutal. I am actually surprised the record company let him do this one in 1963? What do you think the moms of Mayberry thought when she heard that one on her daughters record player? There was nothing like that at the time.

As a 66-year-old poet and activist, I enjoyed your response to this great Dylan antiwar song. And I also enjoyed your reaction to Hi Ren. Can I suggest another tremendously poetic and political living American folksinger, Tom Pacheco, who deserves to be more well-known in the US? (He's had top ten songs in Europe and has had songs covered by well-known US musicians, including Richie Havens, The Band, Dylan.) He is in his mid-70s, was friends with great late musicians like Phil Ochs and Jimi Hendrix. He has dozens of indie recordings, many on RU-vid. Perhaps begin with one of these songs: Juan Romero, The Heavens Are for Wonder (and Not for War), The Journal of Graeme Livingston, or Just a Little Bullet.

I'm a huge Dylan fan and I understand how the perceived troubles in the world could make one hesitate to bring a child into it but the reality, something the Masters of War are great at hiding from you, is that we in fact live in a golden age. Never before have us homosapiens had it so good. Our advancements in technology have reduced disease, famine, poverty, and extended our life expectancy by decades. Turn off the media. Love your family. Care for your neighbors. Go outside and enjoy nature. Peace and love to you all.

Bob knew what he was doing. This possibly beats any protest song ever written. It's pure genius and it's an ugly raw stripped down message to anyone who listens.

This song has lost absolutely none of its incredible power. And as a father, it's the verse about children that most summons my tears of rage. I wish this song weren't still as relevant as it, but the world keeps turning and burning.

Anyone who says this song doesn't support the troops is crazy. Soldiers die in the line of duty just to get treated like meat by the VA if they live. God Bless the poor infantryman who had to kill and die because a few politicians had a paranoid plan.
