"Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones stands as a monumental rock anthem that has left an indelible mark on music history. Released in 1969, this iconic track is a sonic journey fueled by raw energy and intense emotions. The haunting vocals of Mick Jagger, accompanied by the soulful voice of Merry Clayton, create a dynamic and evocative contrast, adding layers of depth to the song. The distinctive opening guitar riff, played by Keith Richards, immediately captivates the audience, setting the stage for the song's apocalyptic and urgent atmosphere.
Lyrically, "Gimme Shelter" delves into themes of tumultuous times, social upheaval, and the search for refuge amid chaos. The use of the word "war" in the lyrics adds a sense of urgency and relevance, making it a timeless commentary on the human experience.
The inclusion of the ominous and atmospheric backing vocals, especially Clayton's powerful solo, further intensifies the emotional impact of the song. The synergy of vocals, instrumentals, and lyrics culminates in a musical masterpiece that not only reflects the tumultuous era in which it was created but continues to resonate with listeners across generations. "Gimme Shelter" remains a testament to The Rolling Stones' musical prowess and their ability to craft a powerful narrative through rock and roll.

The female vocalist Merry Clayton was asked to sing for them, it was late at night, she got out bed went to studio in her hair curlers, nailed it in 2 takes, 2nd take she gave her all, her voice broke, it was such a great vocal they kept it in the track

Music is a lot more than just taste. Music you grew up with will always be better than newer music because it's the memory you connect with. So although I get what you are saying. There are some rap songs which will blow your mind

55 years after its original release its impact and relevance has not been lost. Every aspect of the performance is perfection: Keith Richard's opening guitar riff, Charlie Watts driving it relentlessly along on the drums, Merry Claytons soul-shaking vocal plus the percussion, harmonica, and piano parts. This is a masterclass in how to make a record that stands the test of time.

Was hitch-hiking in Oregon 1971 or 72 and got picked up by a couple who let me crash at their apartment on the couch. They put this album on and went to bed. It started scratching at Just a shot away and every time I got up to turn it off the dogs growled. So I laid there all night listening to just a shot away...scratch...just a shot away. Been enough years now that I like the song again

Give me Shelter was written during The Vietnam War during a lot of social unrest. It was a very powerful song that was played at Altamont where a black man was murdered by a Hells Angel in 69. It happened right in front of the stage where the Stones were performing. It signaled the end of the sixties and lost innocence. To this day, the hair on the back of my neck stands up with all the memories it brings. Glad to see a new generation discovering the Stones at their peak.

She is a background singer, When they recorded this song MicK Jagger wanted only one singer to sing this part and she came in, the middle of the night and sang it so well that when The Stones do this live they literally back up and give her the stage to rock her solo part, you should watch a live performance of this, it will give you chills .
