Thanks a lot for starting to react to BTS I enjoyed it and i really want to tell you that lots of their songs have a really deep meaning and are part of a beautiful storyline with positive messages talking about society, self love, philosophy and so on and that's also a reason why they stand out so much if you wondered why. So this is the perfect group to analyse the lyrics, meanings and everything as you always do😊, in black swan for example they expressed their fear of losing their passion about music thus referring to it as the "first death". So it might also get very difficult to analyse their songs since they have a really huge storyline with lots of details, so to help out grasping most of the meaning you might also want to look up the songs in advance so that you would enjoy it more since you can connect it more (a little hint if you have time for that) They put a lot of effort in their work and engage in the production and writing and authenticity behind their messages which really defines them as real artists. Also they have a vast discography with lots of genres so you will definitely find your cup of tea :) Ps: during their debut era they started with their hip hop discography and released a lot of hip hop influenced tracks, especially the rap line explaining how they grew up to the real hip hop times and how it defined them. In 2014 they also did a reality show called "american hustle life" with Warren G to have a deeper look into hip hop history, you might be interested in that too 😌

Black Swan refers to the qoute: "a dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” There was a time were BTS almost lost the joy and reason for making music, so they kind of almost had their ''first death''. Like the qoute, losing your passion. You can hear it in their lyrics. This is also why there is a great focus on the dance performance. This song is my fave, the music, meaning, dance and vibe overall are OUT OF THIS WORLD

@@TeddyGreyOS There is a video featuring an orchestral version of the song that is interpreted by a dance company (this video was actually the initial mv released for the song and it came a couple months before the mv you saw). While it might not fully be your jam, it's absolutely stunning and add to this interpretation that you just read above. Definitely recommend, and personally the orchestral version is my current fave.

6:41 - More than just trying to look sexy, it was a moment of powerful vulnerability. I posted a much more in depth comment on the Patreon, but RM broke down as he wrote this and finally faced his fears and mounting burnout and transmuted it. That was the look of a man who had gone through an ordeal and survived.

We gotta stop calling them k-pop. They were, but they've evolved and transcended. If we continue to call them k-pop they'll be stuck in a box. After all, Jungkook threw Taylor Swift off the #1 billboard spot. All the other k-pops are just taking up space while BTS are gone.

Finallyy more BTS 👏 The thing about BTS is that they're insanely versatile both as a group and as soloists. They cover all styles and genres so it never gets boring or repetitive. Each member has their own unique style of music they're very different from each other you'd never think that they're in the same group but somehow they blend together perfectly. I'm new to them myself and they never cease to surprise me they're really different. Please don't be nervous we're here to guide you and enjoy the journey with you 💜

For me, BTS in Black Swan showed their artistic side the most. The way how they combined contemporary and hip hop elements was spectacular. Jimin has his background from contemporary, that is why he is the most prominent in the performance his smooth delicate moves show the melancholy of the song, yet the hip hop elements drive forward with force of never giving up. BTS has risen like black swan and showed to public and their fans that they have still more up their sleeve. The best live performance of Black Swas is for sure MMA 2020, there is no singing just dancing, but the way it is structured = mind blowing!

Yes, this is what BTS does to you. I think there is a duality, we see it all the time but along with it sincerity. it never feels fake. RM in particular has gone through phases- his shopping fashion phase, his all black phase (this is described by him) but now he says he is comfortable in his own style which is more natural, relaxed and not chasing trends. Having said that, the production team is dressing them for the concepts and well the man is 6 foot and well build- he does do sexy very well and we have noticed. They all do. Even Suga at concerts spits insane wraps and then does funny little dances. Like humans. They are not just one thing.

7:55 "Probably shouldn't be thinking such concepts in a BTS reaction video"....YES that's absolutely what they do to you. They themselves as a collective are deep thinking and introspective and vulnerably put themselves into their art so they will make you think, they will be mirrors in one way or another and they will often move you emotionally. Not only that, but they use literature, psychology and everything else in between as foundations for their concepts in ways that are anything but superficial, even when it seems superficial (like Boy with Luv for instance, if you think of it as a counter balance to their younger experience of masculinity in Boy in Luv).

I've been a fan of K-pop for 4 years and a BTS fan for a little over two years. I've digested quite a lot of BTS content, and this is what my thoughts are. With BTS as a whole, there's usually a hidden meaning behind their mv's. This era with black swan had to do with the struggle within themselves. BTS I feel are in their own category when it comes to music, K-pop, or not. I was very narrow-minded when the Western music world popularized korean music, and at that time, BTS was looked down upon. So when I started getting into korean music, I told myself I didn't want to even give BTS a shot because all I heard was negative things. And now I want to kick myself in the butt for being so narrow-minded that I missed out on their journey. The one thing I've learned is that music is universal and that ppl should step out of their comfort zone and experience different cultures to really find joy and enrichment in their lives instead of stifling one's self. With BTS, I got into their music because during that time of my life, I needed a huge distraction. I'm glad I did. Korean music (and culture) has definitely become a huge part of my life, and I am a happier person because of it. The thing I feel about BTS is that the message in their music is always relatable. They have an overall good message of accepting ones self, and learning to love yourself. I'm glad you changed your mind and are posting BTS content on your channel because I remember you saying that if you did react to them as a group, you'd only have it on your Patreon. I like the rawness of your videos. You're so unapologetic that I find it refreshing. You really seem to not hold any opinion back, and I appreciate your genuineness.

I can relate to this comment a loooot! I've always believed in this stereotype about K-pop and BTS and I slept on them for years thinking that it's never going to be for me. I only decided to give them an actual chance a year ago and I've been hooked ever since. I really wish I'd given them a chance earlier. They're now some of my favorite artists ever and I have to have my daily dose of them. This reminds me of Chris Martin's speech about BTS "One way that really blessed my life and our life as a band is that about 2 years ago, someone suggested to us that we should work with a Korean boy band. At first, I was full of judgment, which is often my first reaction, because I’m human. And after a while, I was like, Why do I feel scared about this? Just because they’re different, you know, they make different music?. And so we went down this road and we did a song together called ‘My Universe,’ and it’s turned out to be one of the most, one of the most fun, fulfilling relationship that we have as a band and it’s taught us so much about just embrace the other rather than be scared of it." It's a shame that so many people are missing out on them still for the same reason like why is it human nature to fear or judge what we don't know 🤦‍♀

Here's some recommendations (I genuinely think you will like these songs, and I think you should react to this before you dive into their new mainstream typa music that I'm not personally a big fan of....) FIRST AND FOREMOST: the CYPHERS!! and also: - Not Today - Silver Spoon (Baepsae) - Fire - Dope - Save Me - War of Hormone - Danger - Blood, Sweat & Tears - Run - I Need You

I think as far as I remember you’ve only ever seen Joke.. which is so early in his career… Have you heard ‘Mono’ or ‘Indigo’? The entire BTS discography…. Did you know he’s called as ‘The philosopher who raps’? I’ll suggest ‘BTS room live Festa 2021’.

love their solo stuff but I've been looking forward to seeing you check out the full group, thanks for the reaction! glad you enjoyed the song and appreciate your genuine thoughts💜 ps I was also reluctant to properly give them a chance for years, but when you actually check out their stuff, it's over 😂 you don't have to vibe with all of their discography (which is a crazy expectation given the range, i'm diehard army but still have my preferences) it's more that we're asking people to look past the preconceived ideas/judgements about the band and just give their art a chance... anyway that's what you're doing now so thank you!

@@TeddyGreyOS17:32 it's nice that you pointed that out. Cause that's actually the main point. The reason why there's not much going on in the song, (like there's no high notes, no impressive harmonies, no cool sounding rap, no flashy visuals, etc.) Cause the song itself is text painting what it sounds like, to lose your passion for something you absolutely love. For them their "thang" is obviously creating music. (Forget about idols, even the biggest artist of all time rarely creates music about how much they love music). But BTS, despite being looked down upon for being idols & not being reagarded or never will be regarded as an artist even though they do also create their own music. The amount of songs & bars that they had written about how much they love music and how much music means so much to them, I cannot even count them with two hands. But my fav examples are: First Love by Suga, & BTS Hip-hop lover or Born Singer live performance. Listening to such songs from BTS and then reacting to Black Swan afterwards will give you a sad appreciation for Black swan. Cause it shows such great contrast how one raps with passion & without passion. In first love, every line is so emotion evoking cause he rapped with so much passion that you can literally hear it just from his voice alone, but in Black Swan, when Suga rapped "My heart no longer beats, when hearing the music play, seems like time stopped, oh that would be my first death, I'm always afraid of" The way he delivered those lines is so dull & nonchalant as if he's not even talking about his greatest fear. But that's the main point, his rap is devoid of emotion cause his heart no longer beats cause at that moment he's already experiencing his first death. Which is unable to feel anything regarding the music that he creates. In simplier terms, he's slowly forgetting his THANG. Which is why the songs ending lyrics is them literally asking their audience "What's my thang? What's my thang tell me now, tell me now, yeah yeah yeah"
@amanitawn
@amanitawn 2 месяца назад
@@rafaelsmith5737 I was up for the Black Swan comeback and I remember crying so much while reading the lyrics for the first time. I could feel how tired they were and while translating the first verses for a friend I felt scared for them. Luckily Hobi's verse brings up a more hopeful view and it kinda lessened the blow a little, but still is a very strong and vulnerable song. No wonder they decided to take a break a little after.
@rafaelsmith5737

@@amanitawn Bro, I've known BTS since 2015 but I've never been their fan, even though I've literally watched & listened to all their popular songs since it dropped. So basically I have seen Black Swan but it never click to me. Just like how their title tracks like BST, DNA, Boy with Love, Fake Love, doesn't really makes sense, even when I'm literally reading the subtitles. Cause back then I only see BTS as an idol group cause that's how everyone introduced them. They're just a Kpop boyband designed for young girls, so all I understand is that their songs seem to be about (superficial) Love to attract more audiences, that's why they're popular. So back then I contributed all their success to their appearances & their big company (I didn't even know BTS didn't come from the Big 3 nor did I knew that BTS also actually writes & produce their own music). I didn't even know they can rap fr, cause they don't even look like rappers . 💀 Anyways, so yeah I kinda understand why majority of Kpop fans says their overrated & untalented compared to other Kpop groups. I mean I've seen hundreds Kpop songs & group performances but the thing is, even back when BTS was still unpopular compared to big groups like EXO, TVXQ, BAP TWICE, etc. BTS are the only Kpop group that really stood out to me. But not because of their looks, singing, dancing, etc. Cause to be honest I've seen other Kpop acts who can do it better than them. But anyways, all I know is that I subconsciously prefer BTS MV's even though I don't understand it (nor bothered to understand it) over other Kpop groups no matter how cool or flashy other Kpop groups MV's are. Other Kpop groups music like Blackpink for example was just noise to my ears. Especially their chorus parts, it's all just terribly catchy. The worst part is, most of their popular MV's sounds & looks exactly same. BTS on the other hand doesn't have distinc sound. Cause I can't even pick 3 songs from them that could perfectly capture what they sound like, but BP, EXO, SKZ, etc, that's super easy. Anyways, I've only recently became fan of BTS when I found out and listened to their filler songs (B-sides) & also their free songs & albums that aren't even available on Spotify so it's all non profitable & chartable. In fact most of the songs I love about BTS doesn't even have MV's. Like my fav album literally doesn't even exist cause it has no physical copy or any CD. Or any official merchandise. And my fav songs from BTS are their hidden and forgotten songs that are so unpopular cause they never sang it live not even once. 🥲 To this day, I've discovered tons of amazing artist all around the World, but BTS is the only artist I truly respect.

RM 😅😅❤ He will surprise you. He doesn't have a loud, in-your-face personality. He's a very wise, calm, yet firm type of leader. During the "RunBTS" episodes (youtube), you can see him being goofy and silly...his laugh is contagious.😊 He is a rapper...but first of all, a poet. His lyrics are deep, with many layers. (he speaks 3 languages.) His reading list often includes commentaries on philosophy, societal norms, political ideologies, fiction re self reflection..... He's never without two or three books, and a notebook. But, he was also wise enough to know he was part of something amazing, that is BTS. He wasn't afraid to move "outside the box". He allowed himself to be uncomfortable, even though it sometimes wasn't easy. He wore questionable (for him), stage outfits, a bit more makeup, or even danced (!) in bare feet. In the beginning he definitely Did Not want to dance at all ...particularly the sensual pieces.. But he learned to dance, from scratch, and performed everything asked of him. His "I can do this" attitude allowed many Army to see that, yes, they can do what's outside their own box, too. BTS are very powerful that way. RM has a soft singing voice, and adds vocals to many BTS songs, as well as his own singles. I think his image has changed from a "diss to all haters" rapper, to a calmer, more mature introspective..yet still a poet/lyricist. ...combining (fast) rapping with singing, sometimes with other artists. He writes and says exactly what's on his mind in a calm, straightforward manner, no faking. As you saw in the guide, he loves all forms of art, (painting, sculptor, art installations, architecture) and regularly references art/artists in his lyrics.

Oh, yes. Duality is very much the “minimum setting” for everyone in BTS. They all have the ability to go from sweet to ultra sexy to goofy to chill to “seriously meaning business” like flipping switches. They have been able to explore and express different sides of their personalities through their group stages, photoshoots, MVs, variety show challenges and solo projects (performances, modeling, acting, etc).

playing off of the 'a dancer dies twice' quote, a common theory is that this song is about a hypotetical question; what if we (BTS) lose our passion for music? it could also, at the same time, be an anthem for anyone who's lost the passion for something and what that might feel like (the lyrics encourage the listeners to reflect on what their 'thang' is lmao). now i really really wanna watch your ON reaction 😭❤ i know you've been hesitant to post them on youtube and i respect whatever your decision is. i just absolutely love your takes on music, as they help me reflect on my own theories. remember, no theories, perspectives, opinions etc. are wrong when it comes to art. it is the enjoyers' take on the art that makes it beautiful! (i'm telling this to anyone reading)

I have gone on the same kpop journey as you have. Started with stray kids and became obsessed over a year ago, then found ateez though stray kids and then dived deep into BTS about 6 months ago. You were the first reactor I found, reacting to stray kids. I watch your whole playlists and loved every second. Can't wait for BTS journey to start. My favourite BTS songs are run BTS, mic drop, fake love, idol and spring day.

3:20 that's my question! Whyyy??? Why do you wanna hate them? Forget all the hype or animosity you've heard from fans. I think you wanna hate them cause you heard they're the best and the biggest in kpop, cause they're popular. So you started with other kpop which you liked but still reluctant with these guys. Well don't listen to others no? Forget everything you've heard and just listen to bts. Let them talk to you. Not the fans, not the numbers etc. They're just another artist you're discovering. Love or hate em, you're choice but give them your honest thoughts, give them a fighting chance - which you are doing now. I think you also thought that they got popular easily and are not as talented, but you know their story now too. You know they came from nothing and rose to the top with no connections - just a shit ton of hard work, pure artistry and the connection with their fans that they build. They're not plants or fakes. Fine , even if you don't want to believe that OK.... just listen to them. Their music, their interviews, lives, speeches, see how they behave and carry themselves. You will understand everything and form your own opinion. Stop "wanting" to hate something, I know it's tempting. And I'm glad that they're already making you love them.

13:17 oh hahah in real life he's literally a gentle giant, a little clumsy and very sweet. If you mean like in every day life. If you mean on stage, yes he can be a bit more aggressive but he has goofy moments, soft singing moments , sexy dance moments, they all do it all.

I like rap, rock, black metal, bts and your reactions, so here we are.. 🙂✨ I think these lyrics touch on BTS´s own artistic fears of losing their passion, losing their love of the craft and most of all: Losing that "thing" that makes them unique,... This desperate but beautiful need to express themselves that artists often have.. I really like how this music video & the live performance both have an aesthetic resemblance to the creepy yet great movie: "Black swan" + ballet, where the story fits with this song's lyrical theme.. But also to convey that dark feeling of artistic burn out, tiredness, hopelessness, greed, fear, doubt etcetera.. - All these things that the hidden shadows of the haters & your own vulnerability might try to whisper into life inside your heart - Often from the darkness behind your own well deserved spotlight, while they relentlessly are trying to simultaneously both consume, and replace you.. 👀🫀

I had to pause the video to comment on what you said. Everyone can be whatever they want, whenever they want, don't let others tell you what you have to be, don't fit into other people's standards, whatever that may be. you do it and you like it, if it's important to you it's not bullshit, that's what J.Hope said. I hope BTS inspires you to become a better person, not that you aren't, because I don't know them, just mentioning the what they represent to us Armys. Thank you for reacting to them.

Teddy been following your reactions for a while.. and i am glad that you are finally reacting to BTS however late haha.. But dont be pressurized at all, take your time. Allow me to recommend the songs that made me go down the BTS rabbit hole - "MIC Drop" [i was gob smacked after this] & "Not Today" and actually alot of their early early songs have alot of hip-hop influence as initially they supposedly were to be a hip-hop grp but later change direction.. Looking forward to you reactions - luv from Army and ur subscriber :)

I can't wait for you to see a performance of Black Swan from one of their concerts. They do a beautiful job here but one of the performances with all of the backup dancers truly showcases how much of a spectacle this song can be. I think I cried watching it in theatres at the Permission to Dance on Stage tour. Admittedly Black Swan is not one of my favourite BTS tracks to just listen to but it's one of my favourites to see performed. I see someone else mentioned their MAMA performance of this which was also stunning.
