Raphael Saadiq is so talented! This is a man, who can take a song and make it sound so retro, and yet have a beat that will have you on your feet. What ingenuity! Everything has something different, yet identifiable and I for one, will continue to buy his music as long as he keeps producing this type of this type of uninhibited sound. So happy that we are privy to this great musical genius, who speaks to the soul, as all great music should!
I hate that this style is seen as "oldschool", "throwback", when it sounds just as fresh as ever, and is far more invigorating than most of what passes as r&b today.
It sure does! I think the problem lies with the fact that a lot of the music realeased this days doesnt quite meet that standard, whereas in "the old days" it did, since in order to become big, artists had to be great. I may be wrong though... Its a pitty this is not the mainstream though perhaps we wouldnt appretiate it as much if it were

This is Bay Area Soul at its best, you have to understand he is from the home of Sly Stone Funk. I"m just glad to still have someone with the soul and grit of yesteryear to bring the real Funk to the masses. He just that real soul that we need.
Even though videos don't make the kind of impact they used to make in the hey day of MTV its nice to see that there is still some creativity and videos that actually compliment the song. Now this is real music!!! I've always been a big fan of Raphael when he was in Tony Toni Tone, but his new album is bringing it back. This song should've hit number one, more people need to listen to this when whatever is on the top 40 right now
Raphael Saadiq is awesome as a solo artist. It doesn't hurt that his band and backup singers are great as well. His voice is perfect, and I love this video! He combines the genres of R&B and jazz, which is refreshing in today's world of crapulous pop music and formulaic rap garbage. Besides, his looks are hot as hell! (Yeah, that's right... I'm a totally shallow bitch!)
Tbf Yh your right in that dif music makes dif people feel dif things arguably this stuff has a little more class about it and it's just a shame that there are some real diamonds like Raphael who don't get as much exposure but other artists too who get left in the dark completely as all the money is usually focused on a handful of people per decade.
You know what the problem is, this music is everywhere if you take the time to look for it, its just commercialised music genres like rap and dance is all in your face...
keekoxoxo, Mayer Hawthorne music is nice and listenable but Raphael Saadiq is on a different level. The spirit of Motown (not Motown sound) captured Raphael Saadiq and his stuff does something to you. I played this tune for a bunch of kids and they got excited. Some of them paused and listened as if they were getting a message. It was special.
Sorry folks but Raphael is from my generation but feel free to enjoy. He is doing a style of music from the (60s) our decade of birth.Real music is timeless.
"The Way I See It" is a great CD. Every song is as good as this one. I've been listening to it exclusivelly ever since I bought it last week. Not getting tired of it. I'm a new fan. Gimme more!
