I love this tool, I recently started quilting and I wanted to give this hunter star a try. This tool made it soooo easy and my star came out perfectly. I’m glad I got this tool and I’m going to make a Hunter’s star quilt. 💗👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I am flabbergasted at Madampolo's comment. This is a process and a ruler which is really groundbreaking and EASY (with Deb's ruler). I've made several Hunter's Star quilts this way, and although I'm an experienced quilter, I know I wouldn't have been able to get anywhere near the quality and precision using a square ruler (how would I cut the trapezoids? what would I line up to do the trim, etc.) If you've ever wanted to make a Hunter's Star, I'd stongly encourage you to try Ms. Tucker's ruler.

The method of affixing the trapezoids to the diamond strip is the real genius behind this method. I glue-basted my trapezoids to the strip and zipped away at the sewing machine. Glue basting makes it easy to really batch your work assembly, stabilizes that small biased edge and ensures no shifting at the machine. (I use Elmer's School glue in a precision tipped bobble). I have many of Deb's rulers, but I do not have this one. Because I have a Creative Grids 45 degree Diamond Dimensions ruler, I used that to trim down the diamonds to the trapezoid size. I also use this ruler with the Rapid Fire LeMoyne Star ruler/method because I love the markings to trim my star strips. I was comfortable with using what I had, and my results exceeded my expectations. Because I'm a gluer, I do not press my seams open. I pressed all of my seams on each quarter block in the direction of the darker star point. At the end, I spin the last seams that unite each half. I use teflon-coated fiberglass craft mats as pressing aids. I find that I get excellent pressing (flat, eliminates stretching/folds) because they (1) allow iron to glide over the fabric--no pulling and the seam really opens up, (2) conduct heat very well; (3) protect your iron; (4) do not cause shine on raised seams; (5) can be cut to size; and (6) allow steam to escape because they are not water tight. I love Deb's clear instructional style, her inspired methods of construction, and her construction aides: ll combined allow for "no more tears" quilting for some of the more formidable blocks.

Just came across this video, I purchased this ruler many years ago and started a project, however, I put it in a small tote and it have never seen the light of day. After watching this video I am getting the project out.😊

I love it when quilting mavens like yourself make something that seems so fussy and difficult, understandable and easy. Thank you for working this all out for us.

I was to the 2020 shop hop, here in Minnesota, and picked up your book in Shakopee. What I like about your pattern directions is that you diagram how to cut the pieces with as little waste as possible. I’m looking forward to making one of these amazing quilts. I bought the ruler a couple years ago when a local store went out of business. You put a lot of thought into this process of making it easier for us to be successful. I sure do appreciate it. Thank you Deb Tucker.

Great instructional video, I've never made a quilt before, and have seriously been wanting to make one. This video's step by step is so well done that a beginner like myself will be able to follow. All the doubt that I had as to whether I am able to make one has disappeared. I will be making this type of quilt as soon as I purchase my tools that are required. Thanks so much!!

This is a superb instructional video! I will be ordering the tools as well. I have a king sized Hunter;s Star to make in batiks/hand dyes and the technique given in the patterns uses paper pieced strips. This is sooooo much better! Thanks Deb for sharing your genius with us!

When you make a 6" block, with your tool, does this then turn into a 12" finished Hunter Star when you place the four 6" blocks together? Forgive me if this is a dumb question. just want to determine which size of tool to purchase, your petite or the large one. I want a 12" completed Hunter Star. By the way this was an awesome tutorial, you have made things oh so clear, and so much easier. I made a Hunter Star lap quilt using just the templates, and it was not easy, plus the stars did not match perfectly, beings this is one of my favorite blocks, I was thrilled to see how easy your tool makes this. Thank you so much!

how can I put these four patches together and have the middlle lie flat the middle of the star I mean how did you do the middle seam without it poking up a little?after you press the block, that seems to be hard for me. I have your cd and rulers but no one says how to keep the middle lying flat it just poochs up some
@notesfromleisa-land
@notesfromleisa-land 3 года назад
I pressed all of my seams on each block in the direction of the darker star point. At the end I spun my seams (to create a pinwheel in the middle). My block lay very flat.

I can't make the DVD play on my Mac
@DebTuckersStudio180Design

You can use it in a DVD Player. Your Mac might be too new for it to play. It is in an older format, I suggest contacting Apple's customer services to see what they know. But a DVD player should work.

Nice block, but she is just peddling her ruler. You can use any square ruler to do the same thing.

But certainly not as easily! With this, it's all spelled out. No worry if you're doing it right. No need to figure out directions, measurements, etc.
