Wow, you’re right. The difference in the signal reports are crazy (My 80w, your5w). Thanks for fighting through to get my call. 72!

Good fist holding the paddle in your hand. Not bad for a random wire. My random wire = random contacts 😊

Thanks for trying to slow down. As someone learning the code it is very much appreciated. Currently at about 5 words per hour..🤣🤣

For the binding post adapter (also known as a cobra head), I settled on Pomona Electronics units (2259?). They are more expensive, but are better built than the cheap Chinese stuff.

Thank you for your video, Thomas. Question of curiosity - about a year ago, you and your loyal cadre of antenna crafters (me included), made a "speaker wire 28.5 ft antenna," with 28.5 ft CP. Tufetin makes nice antennas, but do you see any difference between the homebrew speaker wire antenna and the commercial 28.5 ft antenna?
@ThomasK4SWL
@ThomasK4SWL Год назад
Good question! No. In terms of the antenna performance? No discernible difference whatsoever. The only reason I reached out to Joshua about making this one is I was looking for something even lower profile for those times I'm operating on my knee board. The BNC binding post adapter adds a bit of leverage should it ever fall off my leg. The one Joshua made is low-profile and, frankly, if my radio fell down on its right side, the antenna base would simply break off. It would be a bit sacrificial. But again, there's no reason whatsoever to use the Tufteln antenna unless, like me, you're simply looking for something super compact.

Fun video, Thomas. I am wondering whether you have used RIT with a pile-up to hear a bit off your frequency when too many zero beat? Rich, NU6T
@ThomasK4SWL
@ThomasK4SWL Год назад
No, not yet. At times, I think it would make sense to run split because the pileups can be so thick, but then again POTA is supposed to be a pretty casual radio activity. I've never known any activator run split.
@richardhill9801

@ThomasK4SWL Split can make sense when a big, long, pile-up is anticipated, but for shorter duration piles, adjusting the RIT, recieve incremental tuning, can help one hear stations on the edge of the pile. It is easy to turn on and off on the K3 and KX3, I need to give it a try on my KX2. It is much simpler than split for occaisional use when you aren't wanting the callers to get fancy. Worth a try.

@@richardhill9801 Roger. Okay, I see what you're saying. I may try to implement a bit of RIT. Most of the time, I keep my CW filter wide open so I can hear up and down the frequency, then just let the filter between my ears do the work. That said, RIT my help it do its job!
