Just like the old Nextels, they need cell towers.| The towers go down, Rapid Radio goes down. But the less costly handheld ham radios keep working. Can you say "SCAM?"
biggest diff on these over old nextel, zello etc is these use service from all the major cell companies, instead of just one.Lose signal it searches for the next system. Annual fee of 50.00 per radio (about 4.16 a month per radio) Not bad at all in todays market. And almost all radios these days are made in china or taiwan,if these were made in usa they would be 5 or 6 hundred each. they work as advertised. I do know folks that use them, and no gripes.
This company is shady AF. They are constantly asked if they are made in America, but they won't admit their radios are made in China. Not a big deal, but if you bring up the fact that they come with a prepaid $50 SIM card and if you want to keep them running after a year, then you have to buy another $50 SIM card per radio - they BLOCK you from their page. They advertise that there is no monthly fee - which is correct to the LETTER, but in the spirit of advertising, it's a violation due to the fact that they don't tell you that part up front. I give them a BIG thumbs down.
@@elkbow Naw, if you post about Apple, they don't block and ban you. That's what these shady f***ers did on all social media pages and sites. But it's just the plain truth. Nothing's free, and they make it sound like it is.
@@Revolverguy38 it's a decent deal if you never plan to be out of cell phone range. But they have recently been forced to acknowledge the radios use a sim card with a $50 per radio per year renewal cost. They also were forced to change their language with respect to the radio's origins. They tried to make it seem the radios were manufactured and programmed here in the usa. Now they say they're sourced in Asia.. Which is also obfuscation - what they really mean is the radios are made in CHINA. But for some reason, they don't want to admit it.
