@@inekestemerdink7544 Check out Sydnie Christmas who just won BGT..she has a similar combination of vocal talent and ability to make you FEEL a song..same with Chinese singer Zhou Shen
Yes and no. "Auto tune" was a piece of software created in the late 1990s...pitch correction was invented 50 YEARS before that in the 1940s and it was in wide use in the 1950s with "Variable tape speed" techniques being used to change pitches via speed changes (crude and rarely used). The mid 1970s saw the onset of the Harmonizer H910 which brought direct digital pitch correcting via overdubbing different recordings of the vocalist over each other to create a better pitch and was in wide use. The early 80s brought the "Infernal Machine 90" which added sampling and THAT was the first modern version of Auto-Tune as it allowed direct pitch shifting and harmonizing without needing extra tracks being recorded by the vocalist. This was the decade that bands appeared and sounded nothing like their recorded sound when playing live.
@@xmathmanx Harmony and melody along with the ability to play an instrument are things missing from a lot of music these days. I do look but am disappointed.
The best voice ever in history & Celine Is second. Barbara was given many blessings from GOD & we are the fortunate ones that have enjoyed them. How lucky are we.
Very true! Before there was Celine, Whitney, Mariah, Adele, there was Barbra! We also had Ella, Mahalia, Sarah, Aretha, and Patty! All fabulous, talented and iconic female vocalists, who could REALLY sing, and set very high standards for the generations that follow!
You make it sound like she's from 150 year ago. Yes, she 82 now. She's a vocal genius and can still sing! She's an icon! Streisand has won every award possible from Oscars to Grammys and on and on. Nuff said.
You should watch Barbara and Neil Diamond singing You Don't Bring Me Flowers. They both recorded the song separately but at the Grammy awards they surprised everyone and sang it as a duet
Barbra is a national treasure. There will never be another. No one can sing like Barbra. She has a vast catalogue for you to explore. Barbra was Celine's idol.
Omg. I didn’t know that. I fell in love with her when I saw Hello Dolly in the theater with my friend when I was 9. Before she sang a note, I was captivated. I thought she had the most beautiful eyes and skin (😂)l. She does though. And she sings with such emotion. ❤
She is one of 10 Americans asked by President Zelenskyy to serve as an ambassador for United24 to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Last month she won the Genesis Prize and donated that money to United24, as well as a direct personal donation of $240,000. She's also paid for a number (5 or 6, I believe) of specialized ICU ambulances to the effort. That's the tip of an iceberg in terms of her philanthropy. She's raised $22M for Cedars Sinai's Women's Heart Center and donated $10M herself. She donated to UCLA to establish a center that focuses on truth in the public sphere. Since 1986 The Streisand Foundation has donated millions to organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Vet Voices, Consumer Watchdog, Alexandria House, etc.
Voice of an Angel. No One compares. Yes, there are legendary artist that are just as extraordinary…but Barbra is the Queen the rest aspire too. So blessed I grew up hearing her.❤
This is from West Side Story (Leonard Bernstein). It’s a riveting story - a modern take on Romeo & Juliet. Check it out. Seriously dope movie. Old & new Version both.
I don't know when this was first recorded. All I can say is Barbra Striesand is timeless. She is 82, and STILL sings like that. She's been singing for more than 60 years. She has collaborated with many singers. You'll have to look them up. You can't miss no matter which one you watch.
I grew up with the version of this from West Side Story sung by Marnie Nixon who dubbed the singing voice of Natalie Wood in the 1961 movie. Love Barbra's version and her live performance of this at the One Voice concert in 1986.
Her live version of Somewhere, from One Voice Concert 1986 is one of her best. And if you want to know what Barbra's voice is able to do, listen to "A piece of sky ?" from the movie Yentl, 1983. you will be amazed... (Sorry for my English, I'm from France ;) ).
This song is from a Broadway Musical called "Westside Story". It is a story of two street gangs. One gang member falls in love with the sister of the leader of a rival gang. This song is really beautiful but when Barbra Streisand sings the song it goes to a whole nother level. You can tell she started her career on Broadway.
To expand on Barbra she is a phenomenal actress she is. Maybe not for the show I suggest you watch A Star Is Born It has Barbra and Kris Kristofferson. You have done Kris is a few videos with Willie Nelson. He has written amazing songs. As always I truly enjoy your reactions 😊
The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The song was from the 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story that was made into films in 1961
Thank you, Joan... I just read through dozens of comments rightfully paying tribute to Streisand, but not a one had mentioned the brilliant composer and equally brilliant lyricist who created the song!
One talented singer, onstage and without all of the gimmicks and dancers because Barbra is all that you need with her outstanding voice. That is true talent to capture the audience and keep their attention.
Sooo very glad, that you are enjoying Streisand. The song is from the original Broadway show. West Side Story. How differences between people can bring tragedy, and then the understanding, that we really are not so different, from each other. But, it takes a life changing event to bring that message home. You should listen to “One less bell to answer/A house is not a home”. Sings a duet with herself. Part live in front of an audience. A must listen to. Moving powerful. An icon!!!Thank you.✌️
She is the OG.. Celine is a great great vocalist.. Barbara is an actress and vocalist.. love her movies and get lost in her songs. Thanks for reacting to this, hope to see more of her on the channel. FYI.. our cool guy Barry Gibb is a prolific song writer and wrote a great song for her and sang with her as a duet. "guilty".
From West Side Story. This song has a special place in my heart and soul. My grad year 1978 and I played drums in the stage band for our senior play, West Side Story. Amazing score.
I saw her in person once and I can assure you that no video will ever be able to completely capture the way her voice filled the entire amphitheater. This one did it as well as I have seen though.
I know one time they sung together. Was a great song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xKWWyO-C2o0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xJNd1k7bluU.html
This song is from the Broadway Show . West Side Story a sort of Romeo and Juliet made into a musical about Puerto Ricans beefing with American kids in the fifties. Streisand was so big it’s hard to explain. Her vocals were liquid gold.
This song to me is about the hurt of the masses and God taking us home in the end , the final frame reminds me of souls returning to the father. Powerful lyric, delivery and visual. truly a song for the ages!!!
She is still going strong in 2024, check out her new song from the Tattooist of auschwitz , it is on tv ( peacock in the USA ) it’s a very haunting song for a very haunting subject.
BJ, the music sorta reminds me of Steven Spielberg movie.....like the end of ET.....Love Barbra....one in a million. So glad you are checking out these icons of our era.
Barbra in the movie “Hello Dolly” singing “ Before the Parade Passes By” , then watch all of her movies 🎥 🍿 singer, actress, director, writer she can do it all
Barbra Streisand is so beautiful she got beautiful voice she got a beautiful face add a heart like a child she's absolutely amazing thank you for such a beautiful reaction❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
She's a powerhouse singer, her with Celine dion singing " TELL HIM" Needs to be the video version omg just such a stunningly beautiful song. Also (A WOMEN IN LOVE), ❤❤❤ from rose in Oxford england
Footage of her singing with Judy Garland is available. Judy's voice was great, as is her her daughter Liza Minnelli 's But Streisand is powerhouse vocalise. Watching the Funny Girl shows a massive range of her vocal ability
There’s a great video of Barbra and Neil Diamond singing a duet of You Don’t Bring Me Flowers Anymore that is truly amazing. They had each recorded it separately and in the same key. DJs started splicing them together, so Barbra and Neil decided to re-record it together.
Watching this I am totally blown away… mind boggling talent and beauty 🤯 👌🏼❤. Thank you for the greatest gift. It took me down a Streisand rabbit hole and I am discovering the most extraordinary songs and albums by her. I think the difference between Streisand and Celine is that Dion is mainly a technician, a vocal instrument and has some affects to her technique, whereas Streisand is an actress, she really emotionally connects and tells stories through song, a superior ability. Please can you react to het songs Woman in love, Enough is Enough, Stoney End, Left in the Dark?
It's from Westside Story, Romeo and Juliet set in 1960s New York. The lovers from different sides of a fight and they want to leave the war and go away together - Somewhere.
I really thought your response to Ms. Striesand was spot on. The look on your face was priceless. This was music when I was in my teens. I'm not sure there is anyone like her today. She did her own film projects, had a lot of clout and as a result critics and others loved to take swipes at her. You need to hear her duets with Donna Summer. They did an album together which was a lovely blend of their voices and musical styles.
It was written for the musical West Side Story. The story was about a clash between two gangs in NYC, one white the other Puerto Rican. A white guy named Tony and a Puerto Rican girl named Maria fell in love but their friends and family were against it - modern telling of Romeo and Juliet. At the end of the movie there's a rumble and Tony is killed. Maria takes him in her arms and sings this song.
What I get from this song, which btw comes from West Side Story, is there needs to be a place free from prejudice. Yes, America is a melting pot but we still haven't learned to accept all for their differences. This song is a kind of hoping that someday we will one day open our minds & learn to live together.
You got this right she’s a super special talent. Great actress as well. Other songs you might dig are “The Way We Were” “Evergreen” “Woman in Love” written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. She also did a couple of duets with Barry Gibb that didn’t stink “Guilty” and “What Kind of Fool” about took with here. Really dig your reactions.
What powerful statement young man! Appreciate your thoughts and honesty. PS one comment was about Aretha Franklin. Let’s not forget Billie Holliday. None had auto tune, just vocal acrobats!
