These people are the purest form of musicians. No techno or other instruments, just the purity of their voices. You like them so much because they are TRUE musicians and do not need the additional bells and whistles. Pure talent. I'll be seeing them Sept. 16th. Cannot wait! And welcome to the Pentaholics.
You can usually tell the year the video was made is 2019 by Mitch's mullet. I think that was the only year he wore it that long. They are probably one of the hardest working groups today, World Tour 2019 May - July 31 shows in the US August - Sept 14 shows in the US October 6 shows in Latin America Nov - Dec 16 shows Christmas tour Jan - Feb 2020 11 shows Japan, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand And the world went into lockdown. They managed to slip in Christmas tours in 2021 and 2022 and released two Christmas albums. They are picking up the European leg of the World Tour in May of 2023 and another US tour in August and Sept of this year. And in their free time, they managed two weddings, two engagements and two babies.
The one you've not seen before is Matt Salee. He is the ONLY member change.. he replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017. They have been a group of 5 since 2011. The core 3 are Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch who have known each other since childhood.
So glad to see you exploring their catalog. I hope you’ll enjoy some of their original music, too. From the early days, try “Love Again,” and “Sing.” Fron the middle of their career, try “Popspring 2016” which is a live performance of three PTX originals as well as their fantastic “Evolution of Michael Jackson,” medley. For something more recent, I suggest “Coffee in Bed,” “Be My Eyes,” and “Happy Now.” Welcome into the Pentaholic life! Great reaction.
I am so looking forward to seeing PTX here in UK in a week and a half. Tickets were booked in 2021, but the pandemic hit and they had to postpone, twice!. But at last, it’s finally happening!. 🎉😍 welcome to the world of PTX and the Pentaholics.
Scott's part is amazing with this song. He starts off so low, then goes to tenor and takes over bass when Matt sings, and then the final verse he hits those wild notes!!!
Love your reactions, you have a new sub! Welcome to the age of Matt! You've got a lot to look forward to. Anything off their all-original album The Lucky Ones Deluxe (released in 2021 during the pandemic lockdown) is absolute FIRE! Plus their two newest Christmas albums (Evergreen, Holidays Around the World) both have some non-Christmas songs that are also fire - The Prayer is a masterpiece and should have won a Grammy, and their newest epic is Prayers for this World
Hey brother, you are absolutely correct, they are teaching lessons- but without someone to give us the lessons, it is worthless. That is where ya shine my friend, getting the lessons out there! Great job.
I second that you need to hear some of their original music. Love Again is awesome. People that I have played it for didn't believe me that it was acapella! Be My Eyes is really good also. Actually, just look at their list and pick one, they are all good. These guys definitely deserved their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! You are correct. Matt replaced Avi. Their cover of Imagine is good also. The last video you are correct with the pronunciation.
There has only been one change in members. The guy in the white jacket is Matt & he replaced Avi (the guy who looked like Jesus in Hallelujah) when he went solo. If you have not heard Kevin the beat boxer sing, you will be awed there as well. He has the voice of an angel & he sings on my fav by these guys 'Mary did you know?'. They do a great job on this song & the original by Simon & Garfunkel & the cover by Disturbed is also awesome. They are like 3 totally different songs. All amazing in different ways. Totally different vibes.
@4:02 I picture their planning sessions being something like, "Okay, guys, what can we do to maximize goosebump production this time? We need AT LEAST a 10% increase. . . . "
Love your reactions. Going thru your playlist for ptx now. Your comment about having to stop at the beginning of their songs. They make you have to adjust to their frequency reminded me of my thought when you first heard Hallelujah and your dog made a sound you’d never heard before. I was about to comment maybe he was hearing one of those frequencies that we can’t hear but dogs can. So it hit me a little funny when you said that. 😂😂 keep them going love them
Matt is amazing. Yes he did replace Avi! Matt is an incredible vocalist. His bass is very smooth. I have been a Pentaholic from the beginning! Its because of my 21 year old son that I saw your PTX post. I would love to see your reaction to Amazing Grace, My chains are gone.
Listen to Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence. Simon and Garfunkel (original song writers) loved Disturbed's cover so much they suggested other's listen to it.
I am enjoying your videos! I would love to see you react to Disturbed cover of the Sound of Silence. His take on it is different and has a completely different emotion.
If you like acapella, you should check out Man of Constant Sorrow by Home Free. They also do a cover of Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash that Avi does with them. I love PTX as well! They are two very different groups and both incredibly amazing!
Hi, if you want to hear a voice, Geoff Tate of Queensryche "Eyes Of A Stranger" a concept CD fictional story fictional characters. Geoff Tate a voice like no other!
@@WollisWorld I appreciate the fact that you don’t feel the need to swear. Nothing ruins a reaction video more than listen to a stream of profanity while viewing the artists they’re commenting on😄
Dude, this one is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES of them! Disturbed came in a close second with this gem!❤ Pentatonix is INSANELY TALENTED!! Avi did leave the group. Sadly. Disturbed's renidition of this song! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u9Dg-g7t2l4.html Oh, another one for you to react to! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eh-72yBP7sw.html
Yes, the guy on far left did replace Avi, his name is Matt Sallee, he is fantastic, that is only replacement they have made...they do "upgrades" not covers per PTX fans
PTX is known for its upgrade of non-original music. I recommend their Love Again, their first original published song. And then the 2016 Popspring concert where they perform three originals and a medley of Evolution of Michael Jackson live. Amazingly, they sound just as good live as they do in their videos. Proof that they are just that darn good and their studio sessions are not overly engineered.
Going to 1 of their concerts is a MUST, but I'm gonna be honest with you, it's very different from any other groups I've been to. The ages of attendees range from 8 to 80 and if there's seats, most people stay seated. This in no way makes the concert bad, I actually prefer it that way b/c of my health but that being said, they are the most impressive group I've seen in concert!
I loved the age range at their concerts, BUT oh how I wish the audience would stand! Groove, get into it more! They perform these DANCING songs with just their voices…….I’m sure they would love their fans to stand up and enjoy! Just my thoughts!
I went to their recent Sydney concert and they split it so the first half you got to just sit and listen and absorb their talent and in the second half was all the audience participation - singing and dancing and. I reckon if anyone goes along knowing that they’ll not be too thrown.
The audience is usually very quiet. It is like the audience at a play or musical. You are there for the voices so people are usually quiet. Totally different from any concert I attended. And the age ranges are crazy. 8 to 80 is not an exaggeration. It might be 2 to 102.
@@lilywhitefi I think a capella, since most of it started with barbershop quartets and such before evolving into what it is today, is 1 reason for the range in age. I think the 'calmer' crowds are b/c people are their to appreciate the talent but I also wish there was more standing and participation however, PTX still knows that us Pentaholics love them, whether we sit or stand 😁💜
Matt Sallee joined the group when Avi left in 2017. He is amazing in his own right. It allowed PTX to continue making amazing music while Avi went on to do solo work. The 90's Dance Medley is one of my favorites with Matt. It's the best of both worlds, because Avi's solo work has become my favorite music. When you get a chance, check out some of Avi's solo work. I can highly recommend "All is Well -- 7 Layers Session," "Change on the Rise," and "When I'm a Fool -- Live at Sunset Sound."
Gorgeous! I see lots of good suggestions and you now know that Matt (bass) replaced Avi. To see Matt and Kevin go off, please do “New Rules x Are You That Somebody”
In this video the first singer, the tall baritone (also sings bass when the bass is singing lead) is Scott. The second, counter tenor, voice of an angel and the voice of our generation, is Mitch (always changing his look). Third singer, Matt Sallee, the bass who replaced Avi (jesus) in 2017 and the ONLY change in this group. Female, alto/soprano is Kirstin or Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) and the beatboxer/celloist/also a very high voice is Kevin. The trio (Scott, Mitch and Kirstie) all met in school, Scott and Mitch about 10 yrs old, Mitch & Kirstie about same age and Scott & Kirstie in high school, all with a background in choir and theater. When Scott & Kirstie left for college (mitch was still a senior in HS, Scott was told (by Ben Bram, the unofficial 6th member, also along with the group helps with arranging) the trio needed to audition for The Sing Off. But he would need 2 more members, a beatboxer and a bass. They found Avi through a friend and Kevin from a video on YT where he was "celloboxing". They won The Sing Off in 2011. Mitch skipped HS graduation to the show, Kevin was getting his premed at Yale, also at the time, which he got before going t be on the show. They won a Sony contract and $200k from the show. They all dropped what they were doing and moved to LA. Sony dropped them within 2 weeks. They decided to do it on there own until they found another label and started posting videos to YT. They have won 3 grammy's, Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and a duo with Dolly Parton on Jolene. They had another grammy nom this year for Evergreen album, but did not win. They have quite a few originals also not just covers. They have used instruments on occasion and if they do, you will see it in the video. The only exception to that rule that I can think of is with their newest album, Christmas Around the world, the video for Prayers For This World, you do not see the instruments (cellos) in the video. They recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the first a Capella group to do so.
There's an ancient proverb that says; "Pentatonix does not do covers, they do upgrades." I've been a Pentaholic since they sang their name on The American Singoff in 2011.
They say that music can raise our vibration and when we get goosebumps and/or tears, that's your vibration being raised. And this group does just that!
Pentatonix are absolute perfection. Scott the lead baritone, Mitch tthe falsetto tenor, Kristin the soprano, Matt singing bass and Kevin keeping the beatbox also has the voice of an angel. In their live shows, he uses a stomp board and clap gloves for rythm.
New guy is Matt. Avi left on good terms after the relentless grind of nonstop recording and touring left him missing family ,friends, nature, and just a more "normal" life he needed. he's got some great solo stuff but that's not why he left his close friends
This was the first Pentatonix song and video that I ever experienced. It completely blew me away, and I'm now a Pentaholic. I hope to one day get to attend one of their concerts.
I am enjoying your Pentatonix journey and I look forward to watching more of your Pentatonix reactions. Please react to Pentatonix mashups "Butter X Dynamite" and "New Rules X Are You That Somebody?". The are both pretty awesome.
Check out the version of this song by Disturbed, too. I think you’ll like it. PTX is amazing in all of their work. “Can’t Hold Us” and “Amazing Grace” are highly recommended. Really enjoying your reactions. More PTX, and more Home Free please!
Wolli while you are on this acapella train you have to check out Voiceplay. Their cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" is magnificent. Their bass singer Geoff Castelucci is probably the best bass singer ever with a killer wide range. Geoff has done some amazing solo work that will knock your socks off.
Just found your channel ~ LOVE IT!!! I don't know if you've watched any of Avi's solo stuff but, if you haven't ..... you should!! They are all amazing artists, together or solo❤
I don't know where to request songs so... check out Post Modern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhardt her cover of Creep. Also Shinedown original video covering Simple Man. And Alterbridge billboard version of Watch Over You.
You have to check out Superfruit, which is Scott & Mitch singing together. They do a lot of mash ups from Beyoncé and Rihanna, but also do their own songs. You’ll LOVE them!
Wally, welcome to the Pentaholic world. For me, there is onlyl one proper answer to "What is your favorite PTX song?" That is whatever I am listening to at the moment, but I highly recommend Come Along and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Love watching your reaction, I haven't seen anyone suggest Imagine with the orignal bass singer Avi. the young man in the white is Matt, he took over for Avi. Please check out Imagine.
