Stone Cold Crazy” was called “thrash metal before the term was invented.” It was initially written by Freddie and he played an early version in the late 60s with one of his earlier bands, Wreckage (a sort of Hendrix-style, blues band). It underwent many changes musically and lyrically before getting recorded by Queen, resulting in credit going to the entire band.

This is considered the birth of speed metal..Freddie was 28...Brian was 27...Roger was 25...and John, the youngest brother was 23..such amazing talent, they sound like a band that had been together for a long time, they had only been together for 3 to 4 years..they were destined to be incredible 🤩

A Queen song is never too short and it is never too long. It is always precisely as long as it should be. (to quote Gandalf)

The thing about Queen is their songs never sound the same, and yet they sound like "Queen". You need to remember the time frame this song was written & performed. This was thrash metal before there was thrash metal. The stage attire was from the era of glam/prog rock. Early Queen is very off the beaten path especially for that time and as they got older they wrote stuff that was a little more mainstream except for a few songs such as Innuendo - which is sometimes called Baby Bo Rhap (not to imply the early stuff wasn't popular, just not like what everyone else was doing). Since you like Bo Rhap, you should check out Black Queen lyric video (there are some performance videos, but they are parts of a medley so are significantly shorter than the album version). It's a Bo Rhap before there was Bo Rhap. There's also a group of songs from the first 2 albums that were written by Freddie & set in the world of Rhye which is a magical world that Freddie made up for his little sister. They are: From Queen I Great King Rat My Fairy King From Queen II Ogre Battle Fairy Feller's Master Stroke Black Queen Seven Seas of Rhye There are performance videos for most of these (but not all) from the Rainbow '74 concert & the Hammersmith Odeon '75 concert. Three early Queen songs that are a must are: White Queen Hammersmith Odeon Brighton Rock Hammersmith Odeon Liar Rainbow '74 (pay special attention to the bass on this, John Deacon is the most underrated member of the band - both musically & as a song writer).

This is Queen's Glam Rock Days and includes fan fave WHITE QUEEN, Live at the Hammersmith Odeon 1975. But If you are looking for a sampler and snapshot in time, that would be LIVE AID 1985. The first global benefit concert (multiple cities) for faminine in Ethiopia, Queen's 20 minute set lept off the stage and in to the billion+ viewers tv screens. No fancy sets, lights, costumes; no playback, autotune or overdubs. Just talent, tenacity and mega charisma.

Queen/ 4 musical perfectionists. Freddie Mercury-lead singer, piano, Sir Dr. Brian May- guitarist, back up singer, John Deacon- bass player, Roger Taylor-drummer, back up singer. Check out: In The Lap of the Gods, Melancholy Blues, White Queen 1975 live at the Hammersmith Odeon. Keep going. No such thing as typical with Queen. They did a bit of everything!

Love this performance. This song is usually called one of the first Thrash Metal songs. Metallica's lead singer James Hetfield performed this song together with Queen at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, if you are curious you can check that out. Metallica also covered this song live numerous times and they also covered this song on a cover album they did. About the outfits, the glove Freddie wears here inspired Michael Jackson for his. And I really love what Brian and Roger are wearing. Process for this song probably isn't big, as far as I know Freddie wrote it in like 1968 or 1969, its just a really fast rock song which wasn't that usual at the time. It has a great Guitar and Bass Riff, the drums have their thing here where Roger puts the stick on his snare and makes that click noise, idk the term for it but its a really unique thing for such a song like this. It has some big details which make this song amazing like for some examples, Brian's solo having a delay pedal, or Roger doing very fast cymbal catches here 2:20 and I love how much he crashes his crashes in the beat where we just hear the riff. But all in all its just a fast short rock song. Doesn't have to be special to you but it definitely is for me. Great reaction.

They was much more of a hard-rock band in the 70’s, I recomend Death on two legs to you, that is about their first manager, who not payed them almost any money at all. He said to Roger «you cant break more drum-stick, we have no more money to by knew» suddenley Freddie saw his manager brother had a knew Roll-Roys. He get so angree that he wrothe a song about it. And they surtenly fired the manager. Then they get John Reid as manager, he was altso manager to Elton-John. Freddie wrothe that song with a VERY angry lyric, Brian almost diden dear to play it he was sure they come to be sued……you most hear that, then u can think nowbody whant an angry Freddie…..wow I say 🤭

If you watch their "Live at the Rainbow" concert, this song fits in the set list so nicely (between Seven Seas of Rhye & Liar). I can't get enough of this concert (or this band). The talent of the entire band is undeniable. As a newer fan, I am even more in awe of Brian May after recently watching this concert in its entirety.

It was 1974 when this song from the "Sheer Heart Attack" album came out. It was a shorter song because side two of the album was arranged that way. Queen were artists of music. Sometimes brevity makes a song memorable. You don't need 6 to 10 minute songs to make your point. Queen could do short to long ones. In some cases it was on purpose because radio would edit a group's song if it went over 3 minutes and 10 seconds. (Back then).

Not all the songs are long by Queen, they didn't stick with one thing, and they tended to wear black and white during the 70's but I think we all did, and if you want to learn more there's plenty of official documentaries on RU-vid, and one on Queen RU-vid Channel about the making of Bo Rap the song not the film it's about an hour long
@JohnHazelwood58
@JohnHazelwood58 2 года назад
Want a longer Queen song? Try "The Prophets Song" wich is from the same album as BoRhap, but was even more complex and expensive to record! For me it's the best song on the record ... and we are talking about a record which includes BoRhap! ^^+gg Maybe just my personal opinion! The lenght is 8:21 min and so it is the longest Queen song on a studio album. Genre: "mystical prog art rock" as the music magazine named it! ^^+gg

@@SeanStaxxMusic It's something I've been asking that for many years. I know the critics for most part were always thrashing them, because Queen couldn't be put in their little box. Queen did all genres of music, from ragtime to very hard rock.

Yes, it's a short song, but did you notice how FAST Brian May was playing?!? IMHO, this song created thrash metal, there's a reason Metallica covered it! And yeah, Queen is genere-less. Try "Radio GaGa", my favorite Queen song and where Lady GaGa got her name.

Actually, this really wasn't exactly rock music of the time. This was super fast and heavy for it's time. Which is why it is considered the song that inspired thrash metal. Cause during this time (the early 70s) rock wasn't this fast or aggressive.

I don’t think I’ve heard this song since the 80’s…I think you’re right. It’s a good song, but not one of their best. I just found your channel, so I know this was a while ago. I’d suggest “Killer Queen” (off their first album) or “Another One Bites the Dust” for your next Queen reaction. One of my favorites is their collab with David Bowie (who deserves his own deep dive btw) “Under Pressure”. 👈 this is the only Queen song I recommend reacting to the official video/studio version.

"This is more rock - more traditional sounding". A band makes a groundbreaking song that preempts and virtually invents a sub genre of metal out of thin air, and someone who clearly has no knowledge of context or musical history calls it ''traditional sounding". I can't tell you how dumb that sounds to me.
