Yes and no. He's suspected of killing closer to seven, but the first two victims weren't mentioned by "Jack the Ripper" letters like the others, so they remain a point of debate amongst "Ripperologists" (real word) whether or not to include them as the first true Ripper victims. Experts contest the fact that the real reason they weren't mentioned was due to the fact that "Jack" never sent letters until the media dubbed him "the White Chapel Ripper" (hence where the 'Jack The Ripper' name came from).

Professional police were also a pretty new concept at the time. It's easy to look back from the 21st century and wonder how they could be so incompetent, but they were actually quite effective at what they set out to do, drastically reducing London's completely out of control violent crime. Prior to this, policing was usually handled by the military, going back to the middle ages. It was during this time that London was trying to put together the first dedicated, professional, civilian police force in the world through trial and error. Extra Credits has a good series of videos about it

@@michealdrake3421 would just like to put this here since you said Professional police were a pretty new concept at the time... "In ancient Egypt evidence of law enforcement exists as far back as the Old Kingdom period. There are records of an office known as "Judge Commandant of the Police" dating to the fourth dynasty.[16] During the fifth dynasty at the end of the Old Kingdom period, officers armed with wooden sticks were tasked with guarding public places such as markets, temples, and parks, and apprehending criminals. They are known to have made use of trained monkeys, baboons, and dogs in guard duties and catching criminals. After the Old Kingdom collapsed, ushering in the First Intermediate Period, it is thought that the same model applied. During this period, Bedouins were hired to guard the borders and protect trade caravans. During the Middle Kingdom period, a professional police force was created with a specific focus on enforcing the law, as opposed to the previous informal arrangement of using warriors as police. The police force was further reformed during the New Kingdom period. Police officers served as interrogators, prosecutors, and court bailiffs, and were responsible for administering punishments handed down by judges. In addition, there were special units of police officers trained as priests who were responsible for guarding temples and tombs and preventing inappropriate behavior at festivals or improper observation of religious rites during services. Other police units were tasked with guarding caravans, guarding border crossings, protecting royal necropolises, guarding slaves at work or during transport, patrolling the Nile River, and guarding administrative buildings. By the Eighteenth Dynasty of the New Kingdom period, an elite desert-ranger police force called the Medjay was used to protect valuable areas, especially areas of pharaonic interest like capital cities, royal cemeteries, and the borders of Egypt. Though they are best known for their protection of the royal palaces and tombs in Thebes and the surrounding areas, the Medjay were used throughout Upper and Lower Egypt. Each regional unit had its own captain. The police forces of ancient Egypt did not guard rural communities, which often took care of their own judicial problems by appealing to village elders, but many of them had a constable to enforce state laws." this took me 2 seconds to find; and china,japan,greece,rome,babylonia,france,spain,... etc. All have evidence of actual police forces, whether military or civilian. Example with Babylonia, they used people with military backgrounds or similar training for their police forces, although they were technically civilians.

The guys at ERB write these with entertainment in mind. They write them as a scripted whole, its not an actual rap battle in the strictest sense, but more of a "if they were to battle rap, we would hope to see/ expect to see something like this." So often they set up lines for the other side, or a side they prefer, to play off of each other and make certain lines hit harder. They do a ton of research for each of these though. You should watch some of the behind the scenes for these sometime, they're pretty interesting.

I know this is old, but when Lecter's first verse starts and he says "Jack, you're a classic, megalomaniac." Remember that Hannibal Lecter was a brilliant psychiatrist which is why he was so dangerous. Clarice even calls him "Dr. Lecter" throughout the movie. So Lecter is literally diagnosing Jack The Ripper based off of his first verse.

11:05 Fun fact: At the time that Silence of the Lambs came out, a common anti psychotic used in mental hospitals required a special diet. Specifically, patients on this medication couldn't have beans, red wine, or liver, among other things. So there's some speculation, but it's generally agreed that Hannibal was either making a point about the things he couldn't have anymore, or he was trying to subtly suggest that he was of his meds. 12:10 I don't know about the Victorians, but the ancient Romans used urine so extensively as a stain remover that it was actually bought and sold as a commodity, and taxed.

Something I noticed was, Jack didn't attack Lecter because he only attacks women or people that attack him first (I imagine he'd defend himself at any rate.) He's following his own rules like a professional serial killer.

When you mentioned that one of the suspects of who could be Jack was a butcher, reminded me of a movie called “Gotham by Gaslight.” Which is pretty much Jack the Ripper in the Batmanverse and the killer was a butcher too. Also do Freddie Mercury vs Frank Sinatra

Knox, glad to see your reacting to ERB. I think should react to either “Marilyn Monroe vs Cleopatra”, “Clint Eastwood vs Bruce Lee”, and “Babe Ruth vs Lance Armstrong”. If you do want to some subscriber special video, like for 400K, then you can do all three, if you want. They are all from Season 2.

To me the battles between real and imaginary beings are a bit silly, you can write a character to do literally anything, while doing something that you are remembered for is quite difficult.

To this day it stands as my favorite! The beat, Hannibal tearing Jack up and the battle as a whole. Hannibal handled it like a professional. Dan is excellent but this may have been Chris Lloyd's best.

I can’t get over how terrifying Hannibal looks while Barney is taking him out of the straight jacket and he doesn’t fail to deliver either he makes jack look like another failed student of his in the university of doctor lector

Hey, Knox! I would like to add the actor portrayal in these two images is a psychopath vs. Sociopath angle. Jack The Ripper is characteristically psychopathic, messier and more prideful, whereas Hannibal is textbook sociopath, far more intuitive with sharp mental jabs. A sociopath's trademark talent is better finesse with higher confidence, the ability to psychoanalyze their victims, whereas a psychopath tends to be a bit messier since they basically like to bathe in their narcissism. While not all ERBs are this in-depth with their character portrayals, this episode they definitely put a lot of focus on their acting. And let's face it. Psychopath vs. Sociopath? Sociopath wins every time.

Even though I'd have preferred Jack the Ripper to win because of his amazing flow and though I feel like he's been done dirty by the lyrics, I find myself coming back to this song over and over again because of this amazing hell of a beat. Can't get over it. Especially when the guitar and the screams set in. And I still haven't noticed even half of the many details you've given in your reaction. Amazing video!

I agree that stretching out TV shows ruins the show and its ending. There's only so much you can do creatively until it becomes bland.
@shadowproductions969

The key to a good show is having a clear vision for the direction of the story, beginning to end. Game of thrones did up until the last couple seasons when HBO started making up their own stuff.. the last book wasn't out yet so they created the story.. in reality that show needed about 3 more seasons for the ending to work, especially with Daenerys.. that was too big of a psyche jump to go from hopeful and peace seeking to burn everyone. Dexter was also wrapped up too fast and the ending felt rushed and poorly thought out. The show Supernatural was originally planned for 5 seasons and the progression was great.. after that the stories felt drawn out and forced, still good, but not as well planned out. Breaking Bad is a prime example of how to do a show as all 5 seasons were planned out with the beginning and end and there was no filler.

Fun fact! The sound Hannibal makes after the "I hate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti." line was completely unscripted. Anthony Hopkins did it to freak out Jodie Foster and they kept her reaction in the final cut.
