i mean the number 4 is kinda special in that yon or shin both mean 4 but also death so most japanese ppl avoid the number at all costs even most buildings dont have a 4th floor etc kinda fits with the metal stuff
@@MrAchsas you are right! "shi" in japanese stands for 4, and means "death" as well. They use "yo" (taken from chinese "yon" that stands for 4, as many japanese use) in order to avoid the word "shi" but the meaning - in the song - remains the same... "death"!!!
The number 4 is viewed in Japan like a lot of people in the West look at 13 - it's bad luck. These two little angel demon ninjas came up with the idea of this - a big middle finger to superstition - and it uses every variation of 4 they could think of! They did come up with the idea on the tour bus and hassled whoever they had to in order to get it written up into a song with full production. I mean, how could anyone refuse them? I'm sure there'll be lots of info on what 4's are used but if you look carefully, you'll see every hand and finger gesture is about 4 as are the lyrics. You will notice that Yui and Moa were doing almost all of the vocals for this song live. The choreography for the Black Babymetal songs tends to be less intense so they can do this. Moa still does her parts live, but since Yui left, whoever they have as the Avenger that day will mime Yui's parts to a playback track. One rather heartwarming moment was when Yui was unable to appear at Su's 20th birthday celebration performance in Hiroshima, the crowd helped Moa out by singing Yui's parts.

You say about they should do sign language - every hand movement, the way they stand on one leg with the other leg across, the position of their arms when they strike a pose, putting their finger to their lips like they're going 'shhh' ... everything they do in this song is very deliberate and related to the lyrics. They were on tour in SIngapore when they were 12, so it probably was the tour bus. Su gave them subjects for songs to write, she gave them 'banana' and 'wood' as well (those songs have never been heard) but she gave them the number 4 as well. Yui and Moa drove the staff mad running round dancing and singing their new song, the staff complained ... Koba had the music arranged and there it is, a Black BABYMETAL song, music and lyrics by Black BABYMETAL. In Japan there are two ways of saying 4 - Yon and Shi. Shi is also the word for death so the number 4 (shi) is considered unlucky and is avoided (much like we have 13 considered as an unlucky number in the west) so people use yon instead. So "da da - da da da - da da da da - yon yon" is the call & response part. In the verses they are listing lots of other words that have 'shi' in them (eg bitaminshi ... vitamin C) and saying they aren't unlucky, they don't mean death so neither does shi (4) as a number, it is just a number and associating it with death is just superstition. Your faces when they broke into reggae ... brilliant, that was worth the entry fee alone.

This song always get the crowd ultra pumped up during their concerts. And i like how you see Yui and Moa dancing all cute and adorable, and then behind them you see BOH crabstance headbanging like a madman hahaha. You asked what rythm you haven`t heard from them yet, i say you should try their "Latin Metal" with their song called Night Night Burn! Maybe that is something you haven't heard from them yet. It sounds great. But you will only be able to react to the studio version, as the proshot for that one would be blocked on RU-vid, and that is a shame because the choreography for that one is great, it's cute and very charming.

Yes finally! been waiting for this one for a while. Song name is 'Song 4' and '4 No Uta' is the Japanese name of this song. And it really is about the number 4, Yon is japanese for four and they chant it quite a bit during this song. It's became a habit at my work place that we play this song every day at four just because, you know, four. It's amazing what they can do, like its not the most complicated song ever but they did write this song at such a young age, it's really mind blowing what talent they have.
This song just makes you happy. But... at the same time it makes me sad. Sad because we will probably never ever see this song performed ever again. Black Babymetal is no longer. 😭
Was watching a video about the number 4 yesterday, actually, and it said that in Japan it is regarded something like 13 is in the USA. They’re calling it Yon in this song but another way to say it is Shi which means death in Japanese. The video said that often in elevators the place where 4 should be is left blank.

Watching Black Babymetal is when I miss Yui the most. While Su is the focus, rightly so, Black Babymetal always reminds us of Yui and Moa's charism, talent and professionalism. I would love for Kobametal to develop a "new" Black Babymetal to feature Moa. Also one of my favorite videos of them is them being tourists in Singapore, their first tour outside of Japan, I believe. There is a shot of them on the plane, seated 3 across, Yui and Moa are awake and Su is asleep with her head in Moa's lap.

This song is number one for me too! The concert venues are united, and I feel a tremendous sense of happiness. I was looking forward to this every time I went to the concert, but I'm very sorry that I haven't seen it in the last few years.
I totally agree with you two about this band making people happy. I work at Costco, and I've gotten about 10 other employees hooked on Babymetal, and I also tell customers to listen to them too. Especially when the customers look like they're nice people, but are having a bad day. These girls put a smile on my face and tears in my eyes because of how proud I am of them and what they've accomplished. I just wanted to say that because I agree with you guys that we all need to spread the song of Babymetal.
When you understand the lyrics, the cultural relevance, the star wars gimmick and the song and beat structures used it's a super creative and fun song!
This one of the most energetic, joyful, hard hitting song it’s so boss! I’m also going to point out to me Moa and Yui though not related by blood it’s like their twins the synergy that have is amazing! This is awesome! Baby Metal's a hell of an experience, but if that's all you know about Japanese metal you ain't seen NOTHING yet. If you'd like to see some other wild Japanese bands (with a song suggestion for each) Check out : X Japan - X , Malice Mizer - Beast of Blood , Dir En Grey - Cage , Guitar Wolf - Jet Generation. Not sure that would ever happen. I've always gotten the impression that Su acted like their older sister and would take care of them, almost motherly. All the "4" puns! Four, yon, and shi is used. Shi is a superstitious number because it's pronounced the same way as the word for death. They turned it around to talk about all the other fun/nice words that has those phonetics.

Kobametal payed homage here to some of the best riffs in the world. The riff at the beginning is from Wolfmother - The Joker and the Thief, and it's also played during the "yon yon" part. The main riff when the girls are on the main verse is from Metallica - Master of Puppets. The riff between the reggae parts is from Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name.

@@ihwan1911 Me too 😭 I loved the color black and red in their dresses, but what I really miss is the CMIYC, Uki Uki Midnight, Iine, Onedari Daisakusen, Gj, and Sis Anger performances, those songs were my favorites, Yui and Moa shone more and I loved hearing their sweet voices as well as watching them dance 👌🔥

Nice. A lot of people don't like this one, but it's a great call and response song, and since Moa & Yui are the hype, it's a pretty fitting song for them to write. If you want to see another musical style from them that you haven't seen before, you should react to "Yava". All of the videos on RU-vid seem to be compilations, though. If you end up watching a compilation, pick the one titled "BABYMETALーＹＡＶＡヤバッ！😲 Sー11", because they picked the audio from a performance that had an incredible Kamiband intro. Maybe one of the more well-informed fans can point to a better video to use.
