God I’m so happy you boys jammed to some High on Fire. Now you need to check out Sleep and Om. 2 more amazing bands that deserve love too. The singer/guitarist of this band is Matt Pike (a legend in stoner metal and doom metal circles). He is also the guitarist for Sleep who are absolute legends in the stoner metal genre and the vocalist/bassist for that band (Al Cisneros) is also the same for Om which only consists of bass and drums (no guitars if memory serves). Definitely worth checking out imo. Excellent work as always my dudes!!
Someone asked him once, "why are there never any bad riffs on your records?" and Matt replied, "because I don't write shit riffs!". I wish I could find that interview again, it was the best!
Just saw them live last night on their 25th anniversary tour. Show was off the hook, killer crowd moving to the music, not a bunch of chumps with their cell phones in the air. Their energy is still top notch. Rad times.
That intro was 🔥🔥🔥, I'm definitely getting Motorhead (and Bolt Thrower) vibes with this song. I've heard of this band before but this is my first time listening to them. I'm gonna check out more from these guys, thanks to whoever requested this song! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Red Fang is the only one of those they haven't heard yet. I would request them myself, just not sure which makes the better starter video: Wires or Prehistoric Dog. Also might want to check out Early Man. Death is the Answer to My Prayers is probably the best to start with. The real tragedy is they've only heard one Clutch song so far. Still gotta get to Elephant Riders, Electric Worry, and my favorite, Burning Beard, just to name a few.
Yes!!! The mighty High on Fire. Death is this communion, rumours of war, bastard samurai and fertile green are all great songs to check out. They had probably the loudest concert I have ever attended. 🤘
High on Fire is amazing, my first experience with them was Adult Swim had an animated music video for their song, The Black Plot, and I haven't heard a single bad song from them.
This band is basically Motorhead viewed through a post-thrash metal lens, fused with filthy stoner metal. Matt Pike just sounds like he has smoked every last cigarette in America which makes it sound more extreme than it really is.
Yo this is the best description of High on Fire I’ve ever heard! Cheers… Matt is also a character just like Lemmy was. He’s definitely my favorite guitar player who’s still at it today.
These have so many bands they've been influenced by. Just found these this morning, very old skool thrash/heavy metal and the vocalist sounds very similar to orange goblin's. Orange goblin is a band worth looking into.

Really good to see you rocking out with High On Fire, one of my favourite metal bands. Snakes for the Divine is a wonderful showcase of the band's skills and musicianship. The song is more inspired by the writings of David Icke, whom Matt Pike was really into, as was I. It is about the control of the people by the forces behind religion, money, and politics. I have always viewed the song as an anthem for rebellion against the hidden hand. We are more than we know, and we are greater when we work together.
The vocalist kinda reminds me of Venom inc and Celtic frost a bit. The instruments remind me of ministry and motorhead! Definitely a really cool mix of sounds!

A band I used to roadie for did a month long tour with these guys. They're Amazing live. Hard to believe it's just three people. Speaking of awesome live bands, Jinjer is going to be playing at the Tabernacle Atlanta on December 10th. I got my tickets and meet and greet already.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned in the comments somewhere but Matt Pike (vocals and guitar) was in a band called Sleep before HOF. You should check out their super short song Dopesmoker
Probably the best pure metal band going, they don't really have any subgenre. Those who call it stoner metal are just associating it to Pikes membership in Sleep. The song is about a baker making a cake when someone slams the door, "Ride up, fall down!"
@@SBrown-ti8xe Then I've been listening to whatever the hell 'sludge' metal is for 40 years and it wasn't 'sludge' metal back then because this basically similar to Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, though more musically refined than the former and less orchestral than the latter but similar themes, like a lot of older metal.
If you guys liked this you need to check out Matt Pikes other band Sleep. High on Fire is more Motörhead inspired sludge metal but Sleep is Black Sabbath inspired Stoner Doom metal.

Bastard Samurai and Frost Hammer from this same album is also amazing. The religious stuff about the earth being 6000 years old wasn't in the Bible at all, or any religious texts! It was entirely made up by a Bishop or a Cardinal or something, I wanna say some time in the 1700s. And in the story of Job, Satan just casually comes into heaven to say what's up to God, and that's when God shows off how devout Job is and that whole thing starts off.
Good reaction. Terrible song choice. More than half the song is the same damn riff being played over and over again. It needed more variety. Highlight of the song was the intro.
