the name "mudvayne" comes from Chad when he was poor he donated blood for money, and he had was i've always heard called "diver's veins" the nurse couldn't find the artery so he said to her "if you are looking for a mud vein you have tgo a little deeper", it became a joke and they just ran with the name with an altered spelling "mudvayne" the spelling they use means "in a bad mood" or "stresses" (in russian). "mud vein" can also your "chocolate starfish"...lol

I think you guys would love 3rd Strike. They only had one album, Lost Angel, and a single radio hit called No Light that came out around 2002-3. Very heavy hip hop influence but when the lead sings he kinda sounds like Ozzy. Super slept on since they only had the one album, but imo are one of the best examples of nu-metal that existed. No Light, City's on Fire, Flow Heat, All Lies, Breathe It Out, Blind My Eyes, and they even did a cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid, all bangers

Chad grey was open about his struggle w substance abuse, listen to internal primates forever off of mudvaynes ld 50 album. His openess and music got me through a lot and I'm clean now 8 years.. Grey did an interview and said they like that fans ascribe their own interpretations to the meaning and if it helps someone get through their own stuff then that's what it's there for. I can see both a deep depression and like almost talking to one's self like " you ( meaning I) made these choices and I'm in this hole are you happy now ", like a self reflection,.. I listened to this a lot through a bad breakup, moved out w nothing but my clothes and my cat suddenly after 15+ years ending in a blindsiding betrayal ( and stayed clean through that!!) , so for me it's how I take it. But I do think it may have been the first explanation for him..

This sounds like a song about being mentally beaten down by an outside force, whether an ex, the industry, or just life. It seems directed at somebody, but it could be just him raging against his feelings of emptiness and inferiority. He says the line "in this hole that is me" several times, which seems to indicate that he perceives himself as just a void to be filled. He uses imagery of a tomb or grave, a suffocating darkness, lack of options, and general weakness, but he also sings about the rinds and bones, which are the remnants, the refuse, of a meal, seemingly suggesting that the person he is singing to is devouring him in some way, perhaps his identity or sense of self. The question of the other party being happy, especially after leaving the singer lost and left with nothing, definitely seems to suggest that it's about someone or something that took all choice from him/them and left him/them in the middle of nowhere. It definitely could be a dig at the music industry, their label, or even their lawyer. Going back to the hole stuff and the food stuff, it's most likely a theme of loss of self and feeling powerless to stop it. Given that the album it was off of was more of a return to their roots, I think it could be about being creatively stripped from the process of recording the follow-up album to "L.D. 50" and the relentless promotional touring since their major label debut and first single "Dig, " maybe including being reduced to "the makeup band," to the point where they felt like clowns to make people... happy?

Chad Grey is one of THE BEST singers of all time (Well, in my time) if you ask me. My top three 1.Layne Staley 2.Chad Grey 3.Chris Cornell. The vocal range of these singers is off the charts but Layne's 🤯 You gotta do Under My Skin by Mudvayne next!

Man, they need to re-release the album this song was on with the bass turned up. Always bothered the hell out of me that every album after their first 2 it's like they started tuning him out more and more.
