Fun Facts: This was featured in the video game Guitar Hero II. It also shows up in the 2007 South Park episode "Guitar Queer-o." Primus did the theme song for the show. -The music video was directed by Mark Kohr, who also did Green Day's "Basket Case" and No Doubt's "Just A Girl." It shows the band playing on a fishing boat, with some animation and puppets mixed in. Kirk Hammett from Metallica, who is good friends with Les Claypool, is one of the guys on the boat.
This is part of the trilogy of songs "fisherman chronicles " Fish On (Fisherman Chronicles, Chapter II) and The Ol’ Diamondback Sturgeon (Fisherman’s Chronicles, Part 3) part 3 is one of my favorite songs
Trilogy, huh? Then how do you account for "Last Salmon Man" (Fisherman's Chronicles, Part IV) on Green Naugahyde? Is "The Last Salmon" Primus's "The Last Jedi"?
And if you want to hear a great Primus instrumental with a CLEAN HIP-HOP BEAT and some killer SCRATCHING,...check out their song "Silly Putty" off the Rhinoplasty album.......as hip hop heads yall will love it. Even if it doesn't make the channel, take 4 and a half mins and listen to it before you leave the studio.....you'll be glad you did!!✌️
I love that you guy"s get them and are aware of how talented they are!! Les has a wicked sense of humor which makes their music so infectous once you open up to their unique ways. This song is 🔥🔥🔥
Oh Primus. It's amazing how different they can sound, yet same at the same time. Some songs I personally love and would recommend is "Bob", "Antipop", "Greet the Sacred Cow" and "Jilly's on Smack". That last one especially has such a unique atmosphere...like space whales singing to you.
Primus *LOVE* fishing. Their first 3 full length albums feature 'The Fisherman Chronicles'. This is part 1, "Fish On" & "The Ole Diamondback Sturgeon" are parts 2 & 3. 😁 Other songs about people include "Harold of the Rocks'... "Dels Tree Farm" ...etc I just saw Primus a week ago (for the umpteenth time 😁). They continue to evolve, and have embraced the jam band scene lately 😊
One of the things I love about Primus is the way the Les' bass is the lead instrument and it frees up Ler to just go crazy on his guitar. There's a lot of songs where Ler is basically just freestyling weird shit the entire time.
Been a Primus fans since the beginning. Was watching MTV back in the day when Jerry was a race car driver premiered. Their sound captivated me and never looked back. Les is a beast on the bass and glad he never joined Metallica.
I was born a few years after the cutoff for Gen X. It was in 2005, I was 19, and I picked up the Brown Album from a used record store for a road trip (Chicago to Dallas) - had really only heard one song from them before that. We were all so awe struck by just how good that album was, we stopped at a Best Buy somewhere around the southern border of Missouri and bought Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Tales From the Punch Bowl.
Another Primus song about fishing...."Fish On".......off the Sailing The Seas Of Cheese album.......which tells a true story of when the band went fishing.✌️
Always appreciate these good reactions! ALSO, what are the odds I can get a reaction for my birthday?? Know you guys love Cradle of Filth, and would love to see your reaction to Twisted Nails of Faith. IMO, it’s their best song from their best album, Cruelty and the Beast.
Just subscribed to your channel just because I think you guys are cool. I'm 70 years old and you remind me of my younger self. By the way I love spam. And yes I love pets and animals of all kind. Yes dogs are very perceptive. I'm not a huge Primus fan myself but I do like this and the songs you guys mentioned. Will be checking out your reactions every day.
If you search on RU-vid for ""Primus ft. Trey Parker & Matt Stone - South Park Theme (Live @ South Park 25th - Red Rocks, 8/9/22)" you can hear the story of how the South Park theme song was created.
Ok, so... Check out the South Park 25th Anniversary concert. It's Primus and Ween with Matt and Trey, performing a bunch of songs from South Park. They also tell the story of the theme song. Primus did make an appearance in the Chef Aid episode. Primus isn't necessarily comedic, it's that Les writes really witty lyrics. They actually refused to play Wynona for a long, long time because it caused people to think that they were nothing but a comedy act. The song was inspired by an actual tragedy at sea. There was a terrible storm and a fishing vessel sank. They played the audio from it on the news and that's where Les got the line "oh my god, we're going down".
Primus was more influenced by Rush... as well as 70's funk... They were never into punk rock (as far as I know)... A fusion of progressive rock and funk... and their lyrics are more satirical than comedic. I think the characters Les Claypool created were more from the imagination than from personal experiences... the same way Judas Priest created their song characters ('Metal Gods'... 'The Sentinel'... 'Painkiller' ... 'Electric Eye'... 'Jugulator'... etc.)... Primus has these wacky characters that sometimes meet tragic fates (Jerry the race car driver... 'John the fisherman'... 'Sergeant Baker' ... Winona ... 'Bob' ... Professor Nutbutter... "Mrs. Blaileen"... Ambrose from 'Fisticuffs'... etc.)
Ren asked on twitter who he should collaborate with, i told him Primus 😊. He was totally down with that lol. He said " lets make it happen" or close enough lol. Would love to see it. 2 of my faves
Dogs know things. We had an Aussie, which are amazing dogs. She’d bark at new people at first but she’d usually trust them pretty quickly. Except this one guy my family had over, she barked at this dude the entire time he was there. That was the only time it ever happened, and it was hilarious because she just stood there and barked at this dude for like a fucking hour. It never happened with anyone else and I’m going to wonder for the rest of my life why she just hated this one dude.
Saludos
Primus Sucks! You guys should check out thier cover of Charlie Daniels Band's The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Terrible video too 🤘🖤😎 My pets are Everything!! My love for them has most definitely saved my life, and I've been babysitting other people's pets since I was 10 or 11 🐕🦺🧡🐈 Edt.. I think you guys are spot on, Les just likes to tell stories about people that he knows, Wynnona was a real person who actually did have a beaver LOL it just happens to be the best double meaning ever, and he does a song for his friend who ended his own life called Bob, not terribly sappy not over the top comedic just right in the middle perfectly Primus tribute for his friend...
Pause the video at 6:55 and in the bottom right corner you see the guy in the blue and white plaid with the sun glasses?? That's kirk hammett from Metallica. Kirk and les went to highschool together.
Look up south park 25th anniversary show. The guys from south park perform with primus and ween. I went to that show at red rocks in Colorado and it was was amazing!
I feel like you guys were made to listen to a Peelingflesh track, make a move and 211/187, they have some new stuff out too now but, think heavy slam metal with memphis rap, it's insane and a new growing genre
Primus sucks! Just saw them last Sat! Lovem! Mr.Krinkle, Too many puppies, Pablo’s hippos(with Maynard), over the electric grapevine are some I recommend 💯🤘🔥
Hey guys y'all have mentioned before on bands with big city or state names please check out Atlanta rhythm section 70s music at its best I would do the song spooky first.
