OK Computer is one of those rare albums that can only be truly appreciated by listening to the enitrthing in one sitting, especially with a lot of Weed
Thank you guys for doing this one. Always loved the piano and of course Phil's drums here. Other Radiohead to get to: Everything in its Right Place, Optimistic/In Limbo, Idioteque, Exit Music(for a film) or anything from my favorite Radiohead album The Bends- Just, Street Spirit(Fade Out), Nice Dream, Sulk, Bullet Proof(I wish I was)
My holy trinity of Radiohead tracks, all piano heavy, are: 1) Codex (the most beautiful piece of modern music ever recorded imho) Link: /watch?v=8pJ3PXUN2FI 2) Videotape ("live" from the basement version) Link: /watch?v=MNJs-c2ILk8 3) Pyramid song Link: /watch?v=3M_Gg1xAHE4 Give 'em a play, you'll love them!
Yup - Radiohead gets people talking about philosophy :) An incredible band, and one not afraid to experiment with their sound. I'd suggest one of their older songs, "Bulletproof" and one of their more experimental numbers, "Everything in its right place".
On another note, I absolutely love Radiohead - Street Spirit is A+, please review Shed Seven - Chasing Rainbows 🌈 or Disco 🕺 💃 Down. Or if you want to even attempt local Scottish lingo try Gerry Cinnamon - Belter, Where we're Going, Canter or Lullaby.
Radiohead are to today's music what Pink Floyd was to music from the 70's and 80's. Always on the edge of commercial success yet an entirely seperate entity continually innovating and redefining their sound.
Radiohead is all about the journey! Listen to whole albums. Kid A and Ok Computer would be a good start. I have always seen them as my generation's Pink Floyd. I saw them in Cleveland at an amphitheater in 2001 and it was hands down the best musical performance I have ever seen.
This song is amazing and a great top of the hat to the Beatles (sexy Sadie) Ok computer was influenced by the white album yet completely original in its own right. One of the best albums ever.
On if Karma is real and how bad people tend to catch it down the line, I think that could possibly mean the universe is equally as chaotic as it is indiscriminate, and the shortage of bad people does not exist so bad people just eventually get tagged by the universe because its nearly inevitable.
OK Computer as an album was dedicated to a band that slipped under the radar called Cardiacs - you want a recommendation? he heh - go listen to "Everso Closely Guarded Line" by Cardiacs - and btw? radiohead stem from prog rock (cardiacs)
I think Billy and Thom were both told no by the record companies and critics sooo many times… this is Thom sarcastically saying that wow, I must’ve been crazy… everyone said I was crazy to do I want to do… and I’m rich and powerful and you’re talking about me. So… my foot in your mouth is the karma.
DON"T YOU DARE put Thom in the inferior category with whiny Billy Corgan. Billy can't even dream to be like Thom. Also, you guys should do a stream while listening to OK Computer. That album is iconic.
I'm going to need you guys to step up the game when it comes to this band... you've now joined a sea of karma police reactions.. not just that this song isn't even good.
If I had to make some recommendations I’d highly recommend “Let Down” which has a moment where Thom’s voice literally always gives me chills, “No Surprises” which has a very deceptively positive sound to it, “Climbing Up The Walls” which has an excellent portrayal of anxiety through music, “How To Disappear Completely” which is just a gorgeous song, “All I Need” which is my second favourite and just sounds amazing (Highly recommend you list to the Basement version) and my personal favourite Radiohead song, “Daydreaming” which is just pure emotion with a beautifully somber sound to it.
When you mention "No Surprises" I just have to tell a life changing story connected to this song for me. OK computer was released the summer of 1997, and then my we were expecting our first child. Both my wife and I were listening a lot to the record and "No Surprises" was my favourite song on the record. In December, my wife's pregnancy had complications. And eventually in december the doctors decided that they needet to do Caesarean 11 weeks prior to the term. I was asked to sit outside the operating room so that I would be there for my son when he got out because he would need body contact to improve the likelihood of him surviving. In the hall I was waiting in, there was an elevator with an alarmsound that was just the same sound as the opening sound on "No surprises". Then of course my head was full of this song and I thought please "no surprices" now. There was a few surprices over the next three months, but my son was strong as he is also now. And that song will forever be one of my favourite songs with the most powerful connetion ever!
PLEASE Hollywood...pop some shrooms or DMT, whateva...and react to Radiohead - Pyramids. You think TOOL takes you to another level, wait till you hit Radiohead with psychodelics. Even No Surprises or Everything In It's Right Place...puts you on another spiritual level. Absolute art. :) Love you guys. X
Another thing... the lyrics weren't *exactly* right. It's "Fewww... for a minute there I lost myself". Like it was a day dream... like whoo that was weird... adds another layer I think...
Pumpkins and Radiohead became popular right around the same timeframe. Siamese Dream which had Disarm and Today and Mayonnaise and Radiohead's song Creep came out around 93, but were considered more alternative rock than grunge. Radiohead from UK and Pumpkins from Chicago. Off hand I'm not sure which Radiohead songs you've reacted to, but Fake Plastic Trees, High & Dry, Paranoid Android, No Surprises and Let Down are great songs. I'll agree that both Thom and Corgan have such unique voices, but I feel Corgan's is more whiny.
Same. If you haven't heard it already, I love their live performance of it from the Ten Spot. Interesting side note: Radiohead has said that Street Spirit is their only song that doesn't have any hope in it. I have to imagine that's why it's so tear-inducing. It's just tragic darkness, beginning to end, with no relief. Sure is gorgeous though...
Ten years ago, Radiohead's drum technician, Scott Johnson, died when their stage collapsed, shortly before they were due to perform in Toronto. One night, as the band had returned to the city, they demanded answers over his death. "The people who should be held accountable are still not being held accountable," Thom Yorke told fans."The silence is [expletive] deafening." The band then held a minute's silence before playing Karma Police. Pointing at a photo of some govt official dragging their feet at the time on the Jumbotron …. ‘Karma Police, arrest this man…’
My friends, after me getting them obsessed with radiohead, visited my ex in yorkshire at a pub (we all get along it's fine) and randomly sat next to an old couple who turned out to be Scott's parents and they all got chatting and had a lovely evening.
Did you say Instant Karma? That’s a great John Lennon song btw This whole album (OK Computer) is one of my favorites ever. When I was in art school, one of my teachers used to play it in class… which sounds like a very art school thing to do 😆 The first three songs are like some kind of holy Trinity to me… Airbag, Paranoid Android (which y’all did for my birthday last year 😊) and Subterranean Homesick Alien, which I always say is like the musical equivalent of a lava lamp (seriously when you hear it you’ll know what I’m talking about)… No Surprises is another favorite on that album, but… given Smokey’s fear of drowning idk if he should watch the official video 😩😆 Then there’s Planet Telex and Just from their album The Bends… love those too! I think y’all would like the beat in Planet Telex 😊 Haven’t seen the video for this song in awhile but from what I recall, it’s just Thom Yorke sitting in the backseat of a moving car (chasing a dude or something…?)
Try "How to disappear completely" but honestly since they're the most original and unique band in the world you could listen to almost anything post Pablo Honey.
Thom’s voice makes me feel weepy on this, but I made it through 😁. I will suggest “Lucky” from them. Props to Hollywood for remembering Thom’s full name and to Smokey for guessing the song so quickly. Have a good one guys!
I kind of already knew Radiohead was named after a Talking Heads song. I’ve seen them live twice, once on their Hail to the Thief tour, and also on their In Rainbows tour, and they were just amazing. Like many folks, this was the first song I ever heard by them. I highly recommend checking out ‘Everything in its right place’ and ‘15 Step.’
A person explained to me that the common understanding of karma is that a person gets what they deserve, to put it simply. And under that concept, you would need to include people like rape victims, homicide victims, and children with cancer to name a few. I think a better idea is that things happen and that it. Because let's face it; bad thing happen to those who don't deserve it, and good things happen to those who don't.
This is such an amazing song! But I have a different take than you guys. The protagonist didn't deliver the karma to the anoying guy and girl with the hitler hairdo. He sure as heck wanted to and tried, but as he said "I've given all I can, it's not enough". It's kind of a revenge fantasy. Do check out Fake plastic trees by Radiohead. Judging by your reaction to this song you'll love it.
Not gonna lie, my mind first went to Karma Chameleon before I finished reading the title. XD Needed that laugh. Shenanigans aside, Radiohead are amazing and i hope you guys check out a lot more of their work in future. The album this song came from, OK Computer, is by far my favourite album of theirs and one I'd recommend listening through in its entirety at some point whether that be for the channel or just personal enjoyment.
As far as karma, everything in the universe seems to be working towards equilibrium. Maybe karma is the version of working towards equilibrium for individual actions.
Guys, give me your 'React-a-cast' any day!! Always enjoyable and a pleasure to see you discover awesome music - and discuss it! I put Radiohead in a Progressive Alternative genre...their music is so varied - even within the same song sometimes. Album to album, they always provide something different. Oh boy, where to go from here, that you haven't already done?! The Radiohead well is so deep! Give these a try: Street Spirit (Fade Out), Idioteque, Lucky, Reckoner, Let Down, Fake Plastic Trees, There There, High And Dry, Just, Everything In It's Right Place, Exit Music (For A Film), Anyone Can Play Guitar, Optimistic... for starters... Enjoy the ride!
Always Entertaining To Watch You Both Giving Your Insightful Opinions after reflecting & enjoying the music. I absolutely love his vocal Style, Always. It's Been 9 Months Since you guys Reacted to Radiohead. I recommend ''How to Disappear Completely'' for the next future Radiohead Reaction. Whenever it feels right -Neil Fallon 😏 Fyi, Listening to sad or chill music actually does the opposite if you are feeling depressed. Strange as it may sound its truth. Biologically, sad music and crying have a lot to do with our hormones. The prolactin hormone is associated with crying and it helps curb grief. It produces a feeling of calmness by trying to fight the mental stress. I definitely understand Hollywood's Music Taste. Nothing Wrong With Chill Music Vibes Relaxing Drinking a cold glass of beer/wine reflecting on the day & what's to come. On that note I recommend Listening To Windwaker -''Love Language''
